As the author of books on embroidery design, the progression in 1994 from fact to fiction was perhaps less daunting for Juliet than it might have been for a complete beginner. But in many ways, the requirements are similar: a strong imagination and sense of design; an eye for detail; a love of color, scenery, and research; and a willingness to share inner thoughts and feelings with readers. Dedication is also useful to Juliet, living in the country, as the temptation to spend time picnicking and sightseeing instead of writing is sometimes very strong.

Sir Owain of Whitecliff has found the woman he wants to marry. He asks her father for her hand but then is called off on duty to the king.

Sir Crispin, Eloise's father, leaves her betrothal in Sir Rolphes care, her step brother. He pushes her towards Sir Piers. After not hearing from Owain she eventually marries Piers. It is a horrible marriage as he quickly turns cruel and puts jousting before her. Then her 3 month fate hits. She had been betrothed and both times when it reached 3 months, they had died. After 3 months of marriage Piers dies in a jousting accident.

Eloise must fight his family to keep the lands and she finds he has many debts to be paid off as well.

When Eloise returns to her fathers home for her sisters betrothal she finds Owain is there. She is angry at him for running off on her and as hard as he tries to regain her, she fights him. And the fact she has been told what a womanizer the man is.

She has been called to London as well to face the King, who wants to choose a husband for her.

While in London she finds Owain has asked for her hand a 2nd time, from the King. As she refuses it turns out there will be a joust and she is now the prize. She also begins to find out what a terrible man her husband had been.

Esta muy bien escrita, se lee rápidamente, estaría bien como acompañante en alguna cita medica o una ida a la playa, la ambientación me ha gustado mucho, hacia mucho no leía una novela medieval, el protagonista realmente un caballero de palabra y encantador, decidido a luchar por su doncella amada, la protagonista Eolise me pareció bastante necia pues estaba empeñada en el mismo tema, la muerte del primer esposo y de como culpar a Owain de su muerte, si la autora la hubiera sacado del circulo vicioso de culpabilizar la historia hubiera estado genial, pues tenia como que sacar provecho.

Era aceptable hasta que intentan forzar la normalización de una ‘casi violación’.
Final demasiado estilo ‘película clicheada a más no poder’. Muchos detalles súper innecesarios.

Una lectura agil y amena. El orgullo y el desarmo se entrelazan en esta historia con los sentimientos de cada uno. Donde ella esta muy resentida por que le abandono y lo cree culpable de la muerte de su marido. Y donde el tuvo que dejarla por que le Rey le mando a una misión. Donde se ve que las mujeres no pintaban mucho, eran los hombres los que tomaban las decisiones.

An excellent read set somewhere between the 15th and 16th centurys. (I think). The only negative thing about this book, is that had a lot of contractions such as (aren't, isn't etc.) which were not used during that period. That being said, I will be looking for other books by Juliet Landon to read. This was a great story.

So good I read it AGAIN! I think i'll be keeping this.

This novel was easily forgotten and unbelieveable at times. It was hard to imagine that the hero and heroine would fall madly in love with each other upon meeting just one time and that they would both feel so upset that the other person didn't "wait" for them to get married to the other. Eloise was so mad when he left right after proposing to her even though they only met one time and yet she says she was always madly in love with him. When they meet again he still has the same feelings but she keeps brushing him off bc she feels scorned by him. Then comes the jousting tournament which is unbelieveable that the king would participate in. I liked the drama of Eloise's first marriage and finding out about how bad of a person he was. But overall it was an okay novel, not one of the best.

She not only was an unbelievable character, but an annoying one at that. If you decide to read this, you won't hate but you will surely be disappointed.
