I started this series just in time because within a few days I was able to read the next book. This one was a different story entirely. It had its moments but I liked the last one better. The problem I had with this book was that it was a bit more sexually aggressive than what I’m used to. The way Gray took what he wanted from Jax was almost like a punishment. Jax enjoyed it, but I myself didn’t feel great reading about it. It seemed painful to me and not at all satisfying but to each their own. There were scenes that just seemed like he was raping or attacking her, but he wasn’t. It had a certain kind of edginess and intensity to it that I didn’t find to be a turn on. Then Gray would turn around and all of a sudden be tender and loving to Jax and I didn’t know what to make of it. I guess he liked it rough but knew when to be gentle? The good thing was he did continuously check on her after he aggressively went at her. I think maybe Gray just likes overly rough sex? It’s not like it was without consent by Jax, she rather enjoyed it and loved bending to his needs and letting him take over at times. Regardless it was too intense for me but the rest of the story was fine, it kept me hooked and intrigued. I didn’t have any real issues with Jax and Gray as a couple or as people. Their heart was in the right place and they did care about each other and their family. Aside from the aggressive sex and that they did mean a lot to each other, Jax’s personality was too abrasive for me. She was too tough and not soft or vulnerable enough in my opinion. It felt like everything was a fight with her and I was getting tired of it as was Gray, though it did turn him on. I just wanted her to admit she needed help and to welcome it if it’s going to fall in her lap. Her independence takes over and she can’t get past the idea of needing or leaning on someone though that’s what she does do when she takes the job at Sterling House. Gray on the other hand had his own abrasive tendencies but he at least knew how to soften up and get vulnerable unlike Jax. Even when their relationship starts veering towards the more personal side and feelings start to emerge, she still wouldn’t loosen up around Gray or divulge any personal details or struggles she is going through. She made the moments between her and Gray feel more transactional, though he wasn’t completely innocent in that either. It’s because he was reading her and since it’s not just to make the man happy, it’s to also make the partner feel good, he picked up on gestures Jax likes when they sleep together and did it because it turned her on which felt transactional. As the book goes on, the connection you find out that Gray has with Jax’s issue and why she needs the money was surprising to say the least. I didn’t think Gray of all people would find himself in that type of situation because of how far removed he is from it. You wouldn’t think he would have any place in that world but when you find out, it starts to make sense. To me, while this was sexually charged just as much as the first book, I felt like there was more to the story based on what you find out about Gray. Then on top of that you get some deep rooted issues that Jax’s family has gone through in the past and how it comes to light in this story. I found myself enjoying this part more and some of the sex scenes though the majority had me cringing. Overall, I gave this book a 4 for that but couldn’t give the full 5 rating. Their sex scenes were too aggressive and intense for me, plus Jax’s personality was hard to get behind and I had a hard time rooting for her. I still did it, albeit, less enthusiastically compared to the last story. The next book seems intense and more suspenseful. I look forward to it, though it seems more triggering for some people.
At His Service by Alix Vaughn is the second title in the author's Sterling House series and I was hooked right from the start by both the story and main characters. Jax Jenson will do anything for her brothers so when her twin Scott is in trouble, desperate times call for desperate measures and she applies to Sterling House for the lucrative pay as a full service executive assistant. Working in the family business Jax is confident and capable and isn't backwards in assessing people and speaking her mind. Gray Jones, powerful billionaire, is after a pliant, obedient woman as his next executive assistant and when Jax crashes a staff meeting demanding to be hired he is intrigued by the opposite that is Jax, to what he was after. The push-pull between Jax and Gray right from the start was fascinating and it only appeared to fuel the off the charts chemistry they had. Physically they're explosive together but as time passes and Gray asks more of Jax lines start to blur and feelings become involved. The plot and storyline were well crafted and paced and was strengthened by Gray and Jax as their characters were developed through the story. The inclusion of some intrigue and action around Jax's family only added to the need to keep turning the pages. There was plenty of steam and spice and the endearing moments as Gray and Jax confront their changing feelings all contributed to a great read and a satisfying HEA.

This just wasn’t my my cup of tea. The “free use” trope doesn’t bother me. But I do kind of hate the trope of “desperate for cash” women. In both books, the female main characters are living in squalor and have less than desirable family members they live with. I assume the author is having these women live in horrible conditions, so that their decision to sell their body for money makes sense.
I wish that there was another direction. The author could take the female main characters to get them to the point of needing to sell themselves for money. I think we’re going to see that in the third book, but I think there are better ways than desperation to put women into the situation in which they would do what these characters do.
I don’t like the main storyline of the mob/gangster and the brother who owes them money. I think this one is better than the first in the sense of, it makes sense that the female main character would want to save her brother but ultimately, I don’t know that I trust her reasoning.
The first book felt powerful in terms of the male main character, giving all of the power and control to the female main character, but without her knowing it. In this book, the male character was kind of skeezy and then would get mad because she chose to take money for sex.
Again, this isn’t my cup of tea. I don’t really like the secondary tropes that are in play and I didn’t really feel a whole lot of chemistry between the main characters. I definitely liked book one better than book 2. It will be interesting to see what happens with book 3.
Jax work at her family’s club,as a Manager , sometimes it’s hard to deal with young customers, she knows how to defend her staff. One night after dealing with some youths she went to her office to take care herself ,because her twin brother has a lot on his shoulders, she noticed some of the invoices and supplier payments are not being match from earlier months. Her brother came into the office and confessed that he played all the money and he had more debts over two hundred thousand , he owns the debts to a guy named Nick. There’s a table of young women that were drinking and giving the staff a lot of tips, she went to them and asks were they working and they tells her to sterling house, and they will love to have a red hair among them. She went for the interview but the woman was very rude with her, she recognized a man from the list and she told her’ that’s Gray Jones ‘ . The woman answered ‘you ‘e not his type’ ,she couldn’t contain anymore and went out. When she went home she googled him and started to search about his life and where his office is, and decided to give him a visit . Gray was in a meeting in one of his clubs when a commotion catch his attention, a woman was fighting with the security guards and she came in the conference room, she asked him if he was Gray Jones , he was intrigued by her and asked his meeting members to go out.
Another amazing book, that I highly recommended .

I was really looking forward to the second installment in the Sterling series! I literally flew through the first book because I genuinely enjoyed both the characters and the storyline. While this sequel felt a bit weaker in comparison, I still ended up finishing it just as quickly. One thing that really stood out to me was Gray’s surprisingly fast and intense feelings for the FMC, it caught me off guard in an entertaining way, since it’s not something you see handled like this very often. Especially from men like him. That definitely added a unique charm to the story. ❤️🔥 I take off a star for the plot, which didn’t feel quite as strong as in the first book. And also the characters seemed a bit less developed in terms of their backstories this time around. Overall, I’d give it a solid 3.5 stars and would totally recommend it to everyone who likes millionaire stories with strong female characters in it 😍
If I had a twin brother that messed up this hard I’d think of a way to make sure we were separated at birth
Tropes
- Boss x Assistant - Sex Worker - Fake Dating - Violence - Rich - Big Families - Banter - Spanking
I love that this FMC has such a mouth on her. She’s a girl that talks the talks and walks the walk. With an incredibly soft heart for her family. One thing I really didn’t understand i is why the MMC had such a hard time standing up to his mother. It was just a little strange to me. This book was really hot. I absolutely loved their dynamics together and how everything played out. I am absolutely reading the next part of the series. Everything is just so well written and enticing. It’s also nice that it’s not interconnected really just because I’ve read so many and this one feels like a breath of fresh air. The only thing that really ties everything together is the agency and that’s it.
Jax still has the mentality of a high school goth girl. She only wears black because she has to be dark and edgy. She doesn't do it to exude power or control. She's just not mentally an adult. She's told she's not Gray's type, and instead of accepting that, she barges into a corporate office to demand she be entertained. Then despite the fact that Gray wants complete obedience from the escorts, she's constantly talking back to him, like she's not desperate for money.
Also, it's enraging that she's hiding literal theft from her brother, the owner. Because that's definitely going to inspire trust in future endeavors. And why didn't the siblings each try to get loans first? Between four siblings, I'm sure you could get a substantial amount.
DNF at 50%. I'm so tired of the quality of books going down.
This is an absolutely fantastic story about Gray and Jax. Jax and her brothers Flynn, Seb, Ben, and her twin Scott own a night club. Gray is a billionaire in his own right. Scott has gotten them in a huge amount of trouble. Jax takes an additional job to earn extra money so their older brother Flynn won’t find out. Jax meets Gray and things escalate until trouble arrives when the three brothers try to take care of the problem. Jax is forced to tell Flynn and thats when everything goes to pieces and Flynn has to go to Gray for help. Gray and Flynn team up to try to take care of the situation. I loved the ending of this story and would recommend it to adults. This story has something exciting going on in this story from beginning to end and the suspense is great. The story is well planned and written.
Wow, I loved how this story was written. I was pulled into Jax and Gray’s dynamic right from the start. It’s sexy and 🔥, but also heartwarming, humorous, and layered with a touch of intensity.
Jax is desperate to help her twin and makes the risky decision to join an escort service. Gray, on the other hand, wants no strings—just someone discreet and compliant. What he gets instead is Jax: feisty, stubborn, and completely unwilling to make things easy for him.
Their chemistry is undeniable, and the push-and-pull between them keeps things interesting. Gray is drawn to her fire, while Jax finds herself unexpectedly drawn to his need for control. Watching them navigate that tension into something real makes this a truly engaging read.
Like the first book this story was exciting, compelling and very interesting and of course the heat was an added bonus. Jax is the sister that would do anything for her siblings so when her twin needs help she needs money fast. Sterling house is the place that can provide that for her. There she meets Gray. Gray wants someone who is compliant, obedient and the total opposite to Jax but something about her has him thinking differently. I just love these two together, they are dynamic, their attraction is so strong and hot. A book with great MCs and side characters, humour, love and page turning moments.
At His Service is the second story in The Sterling House series. It is my first from this author but won't be the last.
Jax wants to do anything for her family. When her twin Scott needs her, she applies to go to work at Sterling House. Gray is a billionaire who needs an assistant. Jax crashes his meeting and he decides to offer her the job. She is everything he didn't know he wanted. She is a complete spitfire. Jax takes the job so she can help her brother.
I loved how Gray and Jax had such great chemistry. Their story is so well-written and spicy. I look forward to the next one.

Jax would do anything to protect her twin brother including working for a controlling and demanding man. Gray Jones thinks he wants a compliant woman until Jax’s fiery personality tempts him. Their chemistry was sizzling and the push/pull tension was perfect. I loved watching Gray fall. Storyline held me with heartwarming moments, bits of humor, sizzling steam, family dynamics, and so much more. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I really enjoyed this story Jax was a strong character who loved her brothers and would do anything to help them, hence why she becomes and escort to Gray. he just wanted someone to have sex with someone who would do exactly as she was told, that's not what he got, but the more time he spent with Jax the more he fell for her. At the ended the action was a great.

This is the second book in the Sterling House series and is Jax and Gray’s story. If you want a strong minded FMC who likes to do things her way then you will love this book. Gray wants someone who does what he asks but Jax couldn’t be anymore different from that if she tried. However, Gray starts falling 💕 This book was great, and the story takes some turns to get to their HEA.
Jax needs to get a lot of money to keep her brother alive and to do it she takes a job with Gray who is commanding. Jax is not the type of woman he normally chooses but their connection is explosive in more ways than one and it makes for a good storyline between them. It is descriptive, heated and well written with characters I thoroughly enjoyed.

This was an unexpected surprise. Gray was not nearly as morally grey as I was expecting him to be and it was refreshing. Small angst, interfering families and a slimy goon add to the story. Well written with wonderful and loads of great steam. I enjoyed the story and look forward to more by the author.
I loved this book not only because Alix is the author, but because it has all the things that I love reading which makes this the perfect billionaire age gap romance book. It's sexy, steamy and at times hot. Loved the cover, and OMG the characters Jax and Gray will make your face flush. So, fetch your kindle and let this romance book become your newest obsession to read.
Alix Vaughn just takes my breath away with her writing and book two in The Sterling House series is fantastic! The journey between Gray and Jax was filled with banter, drama, spice and mystery. I enjoyed the storyline and pace of the book. The characters are refreshing and Vaughn has crafted a world to get lost in. Thank you for the ARC.
Loved this book! Gray was something else! Domineering and sexy! I loved Ajax, she is a woman who would do anything to protect her family. Max and Gray are worlds apart but they fit perfectly! Loved the story. I did read the first and loved it to! Definitely recommend!
What a thrilling book. The premise is a notch too constructed (why she needs the money). But besides that j loved our green flag mmc. I would have loved the book even more if it were longer. It was just too soon over. The first book in the series was a bit better regarding the character development (the fmc in this book just continues to be her awesome self), but it was still very good.
This entertaining and engaging Billionaire romance has drama, secrets, a close-knit family, an urgent and life-altering decision, and protective characters. The MCs are opposites, deny emotions, have chemistry and steam, have different family issues, are intelligent, capable, determined, and great together. I enjoyed this book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Jax and Gray felt the electricity when they first met. Jax was bold and fierce mostly out of necessity. Willing to risk it all to save her twin, what starts as a transactional relationship, quickly becomes more. Gray can’t stay away and when they clash it’s hot and consuming. HEA guaranteed.
The story of Jax and Gray is a must read!! I love Jax's sassy attitude, she is the female we all crave to be!! This is so well written and I love the book from start to finish!!
