Elena remembers the exact night she stopped being a princess. Flames. Screaming. Her brother's hand pulling her away from the burning castle as the entire kingdom fell behind them. She's been hiding ever since — trying to forget who she used to be. Gary remembers that same night differently. He was one of the men who planted the charges on her castle. He's belonged to the Order since childhood — the ones who gave him power, and with it, a master he can't refuse. When he's ordered to find the last surviving princess, he starts digging through forgotten royal records. What he finds is something he was never meant to see: royal blood might be the key to breaking the chains that bind him. His mission is simple — find her, bring her back. What he does once he finds her is not. Handing her over means the freedom he's wanted his entire life. Keeping her safe means turning against the only master he's ever known — and Elena has to decide whether she can trust a man who stood on the side that took everything from her. A dark romantasy about power, loyalty, and a love that picks the wrong side.
I truly enjoyed the story of Elena and Gary and seeing all of the different adventures they went on. I felt as though their story was full of love as well as navigating difficulties with their own identities.
I would have liked to see more world building and maybe more details, I felt it went by so fast. A lot happened and I had questions or found myself asking “how did that happen ?”
The character development throughout the story was amazing and I enjoyed seeing how they adapted and overcame.
Thank you for the ARC copy ! Interesting story line and magic system. Complex world. Politics ,schemes, beautiful way of showing how two people from different worlds find perfect place with each other. Their love is gentle, trust is unconditional and together they are stronger and they can become the change the world needs. I really enjoyed this book I was very invested in the story and the characters couldn’t put it down Thank you for giving me the opportunity to join their journey!
Many thanks to the author for the ARC of this book for my review! This was an interesting book. I was invested in Elena and Gary, also the supporting characters! I enjoyed the depth of their histories. I felt horrible for these people and all the battles they had to face just to survive. The losses they suffered at the hands of power hungry people were devastating. I felt a bit disconnected at the beginning, but by the middle things were falling in to place. Overall, I liked it and am interested to see what happens in the next book.
While the premise centers around kings and legacy, the heart of the story is about choice and sacrifice. The characters feel real, with flaws and strengths that make them relatable. I enjoyed the quieter moments just as much as the intense ones because they added emotional depth. It’s a well-balanced fantasy that delivers both tension and meaning.
This story blends political tension, legacy, and personal struggle in a way that feels both epic and intimate. I loved how the stakes felt real, not just because of kingdoms and power, but because of what the characters stood to lose emotionally. The writing flows smoothly, and the character dynamics feel authentic. It’s the kind of fantasy that makes you reflect on leadership, loyalty, and the cost of destiny long after you finish reading
This book has such a strong atmosphere. From the very beginning, there’s a sense of weight and history hanging over everything. I appreciated how the world-building was woven into the narrative without overwhelming the reader. The emotional layers are what truly shine, especially the themes of responsibility and inheritance. It’s immersive, thoughtful, and beautifully written.
"A raw, emotional fantasy about broken people finding strength in each other." Elena is a queen on the run. Gary is the man sent to capture her,who ends up saving her instead. What follows is a brutal, tender, and surprisingly spiritual journey through trauma, betrayal, and redemption. The action hits hard. The romance isn't easy,it's earned through blood and forgiveness. The supernatural elements (demons, angels, a haunting underworld) feel fresh without overwhelming the human story.
What stood out to me most was the depth of the characters. Their decisions aren’t simple, and that complexity makes the story feel grounded and believable. The pacing is steady, building tension naturally without rushing major moments. There’s a great balance between action and emotional development. If you enjoy fantasy that focuses on people just as much as plot, this is a rewarding read.
I need the sequel like yesterday. The plot had me on my toes, even during the lull of the quieter moments-which is hard to do. My attention can stray quite fast. But the biggest gem of this series is the character growth! I can't say much more without giving spoilers, so just trust me on this.
This book takes an interesting approach by combining modern settings with ancient supernatural elements. Angels, demons, and older mythological themes are woven into the story as Elena, a queen forced into hiding under the name Tara, tries to navigate a dangerous world. I appreciated that the protagonist is not only a royal figure but also a boxer, which makes her both physically capable and mentally resilient. That combination gives the character a strong presence throughout the story.
