“You can’t convince me that my life has been something it isn’t. I was the best at something, and I did my job with pride until you came along.” His voice broke. “I won’t let you make me believe it was worthless.”
“…Yes, you are valuable. You are worth billions. They have made you into a commodity that everyone wants a piece of.”
“You’re no different,” Tover said.
“You’re right. I want you too. But not for what you can do. I want you because of who you are.”
“It doesn’t matter why you did it!” Tover said, his voice shaking. “What matters is you took the trust of someone who fucking loved you and destroyed them for your own purpose!”

"Tover." Cruz sounded frustrated. "I thought I'd stay away to make this easier on you, but I couldn't. I needed you to know that I never intended this. I-" "Stop saying my name." Cruz ran his hand through his hair. "If you knew why I did it, you'd-" "Fuck you." Tover shook his head. "Why help me now, after everything?" Cruz didn't answer for a long time, and when he did, he spoke quietly, his eyes a little glassy. "Because you are a rare, beautiful flower. And I crushed you under my boot."
"It doesn't matter why you did it!" Tover said, his voice shaking. "What matters is you took the trust of someone who fucking loved you and destroyed them for your own purpose!"
"Fine, I'll say it if you won't," Cruz said after a pause. He looked nervous. "I want you to stay. Not out of fear, or coercion. I want you to stay for me."
