WHEN YOUR LIFE PLAYS OUT UNDER THE LIGHTS, YOUR SECRETS HAVE NOWHERE TO HIDE

Dominic Graves has it all. A Premier League legend with a legacy of wealth, power, women falling at his feet, and now the owner of one of the most successful teams in football. He has the confidence and determination won by a life lived in the public eye. Mia Graves is desperate for a way out. She looks flawless on billboards and magazine pages, but behind closed doors, she’s lonely and trapped in a crumbling marriage. Her husband vanishing in the middle of the Premier League season has her ready to leave it all behind, but when the press blame her for his disappearance, she’s forced to put on a united front with the club - and her alluring father-in-law.

As Mia and Dominic spend more time together, they discover unexpected common ground. Temptation is a dangerous game, and the line between right and wrong begins to blur. And once that line is crossed, it’s only a matter of time before everything they’re trying to hide comes to the light…

If you are looking for a forbidden romance where he falls first, and it is a sports romance based on the Premier League. Dangerous Play by R.D. Baker is book 1 in the Arlington FC series. Firstly, I would like to thank the author for giving me an ARC. Importantly , this book contains triggering content, so please check the trigger warnings before reading.

Dangerous Play was written so well that it had me guessing what was going to happen and why Archie disappeared. I loved how this book was a mix of both character and plot-driven story; they complemented each other very well. Seeing how all characters supported Mia during a really tough time when dealing with everything going on was a true found family and showed that sometimes your family isn't blood-related. Each character really played an important role in the story. There were so many things that had me in shock in this book; there are so many twists and turns that I did not expect.

Mia and Dominic's relationship was written so well that you could see the tension they had between each other, and over time, you could see their relationship blossom. I loved how we really go to see these two care for each other in their tough moments, such as cooking for one another and even just sitting there and listening to one another. There felt like a genuine connection had been made, and you could see how their character developed through the story, creating better grounds for their relationship. Overall, I love these two characters and their story and hope you all enjoy it too. Happy reading.

If there's one thing I'm gonna eat up every time, it's an age gap romance. ESPECIALLY when she's with her ex's father...something about the ex's dad trope just does it for me. This was my second book by RD Baker but I will definitely be reading more. From the moment we meet Mia, I was obsessed with her. Her spitfire attitude was EVERYTHING. I loved the banter between her and Dom and then when it turned into flirting and then into much more 🙈 I like how we're immediately in the story with Archie's drama (yuck) and how everyone is trying to figure that man child out. Dom truly was a daddy DILF like Charlotte called him. Speaking of Charlotte, I loved her and hope to see more from her in the future 👀 her and Jordan were such good friends to Mia and I loved how they supported her from the beginning regarding her relationship with Dom. Back to Dom, I loved how he stepped up to care for Mia even though they had a bit of a rocky history. That's a good man Savannah!!!! A GOOD MAN. I love it when he falls first and when the tension finally snapped between the two of them: fireworks. I also really liked how they still learned more about each other during the relationship building period and didn't just go from 0 to 100 and that was it.

Thank you to RD Baker for the ARC!

Thank you so much for the early ARC🫶🏻I received an early ARC in exchange for my honest opinions

Well I absolutely ate up this book!!🥵 I could feel the tension building and slow burn between Dominic and Mia was SO hot. The sexual chemistry between both of them was 🔥 I loved how all the characters flowed together whether they were more side characters or the main MCs.

Honestly some of the twists in this book I wasn’t expecting some of them in the story but it really made the story even better imo and kept me wondering!!

If you are looking for a new age gap romance with some forbiddeness, check this book out!!

I’m not usually a sports romance girl, but when the author is R.D. Baker, I’m always in for the ride. As the queen of forbidden romance, I already had high expectations going into this, but then she said age gap with billionaire father-in-law… and I was immediately all in. No hesitation.

When a Premier League legend’s son disappears mid-season, leaving behind a media storm and a very public mess, Dominic Graves is forced to step in and handle the fallout. That includes dealing with his son’s wife, Mia, who is very much done with everything. What starts as tension and clashing personalities quickly turns into something a whole lot more complicated and a whole lot more dangerous.

Dom and Mia’s chemistry was electric from the start. They go from irritated, sniping at each other, and very much not on the same page, to something softer, deeper, and honestly kind of beautiful. Watching that shift happen didn’t feel rushed either. It builds slowly, so you can feel every crack in the walls they’ve put up.

The tension between them had me sitting there like, “just kiss already,” while also knowing that the second they do, everything is about to spiral. The slow burn was SO well done, and when they finally gave in, I was giggling and kicking my feet like a maniac late into the night.

Mia was a wonderful FMC. She’s fiery, unapologetic, and absolutely not here to be walked over, but underneath that is someone who’s been hurt and is trying to hold herself together the best she can. She felt real in a way that made it impossible not to root for her.

As for Dom… listen. I was not expecting to love him as much as I did. He starts off very much in his “controlled, powerful, set in his ways” era, but being around Mia forces him to actually show up. Watching him soften, become more emotionally present, and genuinely care for her, without trying to control her, made me fall just as hard for him as Mia did.

I always love and appreciate how Baker doesn’t shy away from the messy parts. The characters are flawed, they make questionable decisions, and sometimes you will want to yell at them, but that’s what makes the story feel grounded. It leans into the chaos, the drama, the morally gray choices, and somehow still gives you a romantic connection to both envy and admire.

With the added layers of football world pressure, media scrutiny, and emotional depth, this story becomes so much more than just a forbidden romance. It’s messy, addictive, and just the right amount of unhinged to keep you fully locked in, whether you usually read sports romance or not.

R.D. Baker once again ruined my sleep schedule and I regret nothing. I highly suggest you do the same.

Dom has lived a full life. Multiple ex-wives, fame, fortune, and the prestige of owning a football club…he’s had it all. But when his only son abandons his wife Mia and disappears, leaving her to deal with the fallout, Dom is forced to step in and pick up the pieces. Somewhere between damage control, constant head butting, and being thrown into close proximity, he starts to realize that Mia might just be the one thing he’s been missing all along.

So I actually really enjoyed how this one played out. It’s fast paced in a way that keeps you hooked with lots of banter and fun yet endearing moments and the relationship developed in a way that felt natural despite their dynamics of father in law/daughter in law. The age gap was basically non-existent in my mind, Mia and Dom were just perfect for each other!

“I’m here. Right where I want to be.”

Mia was such a special FMC for me. She’s spunky, loud, strong, and doesn’t back down but underneath all that is someone who’s been through a lot and is just trying to hold it together. I loved that balance in her character, it made her feel very real and like any other girl you know.

And Dom, man he really surprised me! You expect this player personality, ex wives and all, someone set in his ways, but watching him grow into someone softer, more present, and genuinely caring was such a nice contrast. The way he shows up for Mia through everything, supports her, and slowly becomes exactly what she needs? My man my man my man!

“Kissing her makes sense in a way that nothing else ever has in my life.”

Their dynamic had that enemies to lovers energy but with the in-law twist, which made everything a little more complicated and honestly so much more interesting. The tension was there from the start, the banter was onnnnn, and once things started shifting between them, it was chefs kiss fireworks! At some point I genuinely forgot they were in-laws because their connection felt that natural. If anything, I was just sitting there like…how did it take seven years for them to get here? How have they not made out before haha? The walls between them didn’t just disappear overnight, they came down slowly and that made everything feel more magical.

This was my first R.D. Baker book and it definitely won’t be my last. Such an engaging binge read for me with characters that really made me fall in love with them. Can’t wait to see more of the Arlington family.

This book had me laughing out loud, screaming to strangle characters through my Kindle, crying at the understanding of past traumas and rooting for the two characters to finally get it on! 🍾🚿It was a rollercoaster of emotions and lots of fun.

I’ll start by saying that RD Baker always nails her female leads. She writes such empowering women with depth, that you can’t help but root for, if not see your self in some way. Strong willed, sassy, smart, emotional intelligence, and take no shit survivors.
She writes women I feel a lot of us can see ourselves in.
But let me also not forget her MEN- this woman can write the hell out of a man! She always puts the perfect amount of possessive, protective, yearning, sexy, kind, mature and also emotional intelligence that just has you frothing at the mouth. A true talent to her craft👏🏼.

Aside from being a sexy and hilarious age gap sports romance, I greatly enjoyed how she touched on so many deep topics in this book. Toxic family dynamics, divorce, childhood trauma, assault, substance abuse, personal vulnerability and emotional maturity. How sometimes all it takes is a person to see us for all we are, the good, the bad, the ugly, the damaged and still want to love and protect us regardless.

This book was my first sports romance and it is going to be hard to find a book that keeps me as engaged as this book did. It set quite the standard! You will quite literally laugh out loud at the banter between Mia & Char, want to strangle a woman named Andrea, punch a guy named Archie, unplug an old man’s air tank because he’s got some nerve throughout the book, and want a book + backstory on every single player introduced on that team! (👀)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I highly reccomend everyone pre order this book if you haven’t already because it was SUCH a fun, sassy and sexy read. I’m jealous for everyone getting to read MIA & Dom for the first time!!

📚 Advanced Reader Review 📚

5 stars for the SASS alone!!!

I was blessed with an ARC of this book, and while I may have been held up a little, I just ate this book up!
It is dual POV.
Mia is just absolutely wonderful!! I love her to bits!!! She is strong, bold, witty and full of tenacity! Her DGAF attitude is just what I needed. Her back story, how she is and why she is, on top of being successful on her own outside of being a strikers wife, is an FMC we all need in our lives! 👏🏻 and Char needs an honourable mention of her own because THAT is what a best friend is meant to be! 👏🏻

And Dominic… he is strong willed, determined, divorced and almost facing a midlife crisis, and his son just continuously causes so many issues but “Daddy DILF” just has the biggest of soft spots for those he cares about. Archie just causes so many problems for them both, but you can tell he’s having more of a midlife than his father is. That’s what happens you take more than you give, eventually everything goes to crap for you, and it definitely did for Archie.

The love that blossomed between them, was ever so slow, gradual, and not just suddenly after every interaction after almost hating each other, it was ever so subtle and that is probably my favourite part about their romance. It was just the most adorable thing ever 🥰

I have never enjoyed an age gap story so much in my life (outside of fantasy anyway), and it was just perfect. The care, the attention, the energy they give each other and become better people because of it. There were Tears, random bursts of laughter (very out loud even while I was cycling or on the elliptical at the gym).

RD Baker darling, I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I may have also laughed out loud at the Arsenal comment, as my father is a big fan of theirs and has been for years!

Thank you so much for the privilege to have read this story you poured your heart and soul into, and I’m so excited to read more of your work! 🤩 📚

This book took me on such an emotional ride—and it was absolutely worth it. I devoured it from start to finish, completely pulled in by the tension, the drama, and the undeniable connection between Dom and Mia.

Dominic Graves is the ultimate silver fox—charismatic, powerful, and used to getting his way—but seeing him in this dynamic with Mia, his soon to be ex daughter-in-law, added such a compelling layer of complexity. Their relationship starts off strained, filled with history and clashing personalities, but the slow-burn development makes every shift between them feel earned and so satisfying. The chemistry is intense from the beginning, balanced perfectly with witty banter that genuinely had me laughing out loud.

Mia was such a standout for me. She’s sharp, strong, and refuses to be walked over, even after everything she’s been through. Her backstory is heartbreaking, and it makes you root for her even more—you just want to see her get the love and stability she deserves. And honestly, Dom ends up being exactly that. Watching him grow from a guarded, larger-than-life figure into someone softer, attentive, and deeply devoted to Mia was one of the best parts of the book. The way he shows up for her and cares for her added so much warmth to their story.

Yes, their relationship feels forbidden for a while, and that tension only makes it more addictive. Despite the age gap and complicated family ties, their connection feels natural, and the progression of their relationship is both emotional and believable. They go through their fair share of obstacles, but it all builds toward a truly satisfying HEA.

Add in the London setting, football world drama, and some twists that keep things interesting, and this becomes such an engaging, steamy, and heartfelt read. I’ll definitely be waiting the next book about Arlington ❤️

Dangerous Play takes every messy, emotional thread, betrayal, abandonment, power, longing and pulls them tight around Mia and Dominic until you can feel the snap coming.

Mia (28) is a model, and stuck in a marriage that’s been hollow for a long time. When her husband Archie, Arlington FC’s star striker, walks out without warning, the truth unravels fast. Cheating. Other‑woman drama. A relationship that was already dying now exposed for what it really was. Mia is left hurt, humiliated, and suddenly very, very alone. She’s sassy, doesn’t take anyone’s crap, and finds comfort in the one person she shouldn’t.

Dominic Graves is her father‑in‑law, 52, and the owner of the Premier League club team her husband and his own son play for. He’s the last person she expects to become her anchor. But he’s steady where Archie was selfish, protective where Archie was careless, and genuinely invested in Mia’s wellbeing. As they spend more time together, the emotional tension builds in a way that feels both inevitable and impossible.

“Mia, this is wrong.” My mouth trails from her lips, along her jawline, down her neck. “We can’t do this.” “We can hate ourselves for it later.” She doesn’t even sound sorry, not a bit”

The forbidden edge is sharp, but the connection is even sharper. Dominic sees Mia, really sees her, and the care he shows her slowly shifts into something deeper, heavier, and impossible to ignore. Their chemistry simmers under every conversation, every moment of quiet understanding, until it finally breaks through in a way that feels earned and intensely emotional.

“You’ve made a mess of me.” “You need making a mess of.” I brush a kiss against her lips. “Every day, several times.”

This story blends heartbreak, healing, and taboo attraction with a maturity that makes the age gap feel meaningful rather than gimmicky. Mia’s journey out of a loveless marriage and into something real is compelling, and Dominic’s devotion gives the whole book its pulse.

“It’s too late. I’m done. Whatever comes now, I know my stupid old heart belongs to her.”

If you love forbidden dynamics, emotional tension, and a romance that feels both risky and deeply right, this one absolutely delivers.

A huge thank you to RD Baker for the early copy!!

I typically only read the fantasy genre but I had to support my girl RD Baker in her first ever sports novel. She's no stranger to forbidden/taboo romance novels or that genre and she doesn't disappoint here either. Loved this book from the start.

Mia Brookes Graves is a fiesty, take no crap FMC with a grudge to grind after her cheating p.o.s. London soccer player husband, plays her one last time with his latest fling. She's angry, hurt, and fed up. She storms into his daddy's office with a score to settle.

Dominic Graves is a sexy older man with the entire package. He's suave, distinguished, sophisticated, respectful, knows how to treat a lady, and can cook like a chef. What more can a woman ask for? He doesn't seem to know what because he's been married and now divorced four times; and now is son's wife, storms into his office like a woman scorned, flames and daggers flying at him like it's his fault.

Mia and Dominic are thrust together for the season as Archie (said p.o.s.) scandalously goes missing, screwing everyone over. Sparks fly, tensions rise, and the heat becomes unbarable between the two as they spend more time together. Both unable to deny the draw to each other. Mia's already a star on her own, put in danger by a sleazy paparazzi, landing her in Dom's care more than once.

The slow burn, sexual chemistry Baker writes between these two is enough to ignite your pages on fire. Get your wine, popcorn, or favorite reading companion ready, because you won't want to miss Dangerous Play! I read this book non-stop for a day straight, it was that good. The spicy scenes were spicy. The juicy scenes a perfect peach.

It’s not always that I love a more female character than a male one. Most books I read portray men through a feminine gaze, also most books I read are queer, so whenever I read an MF book, I sometimes struggle with the female characters.

Allow me to tell you that I absolutely loved Mia! Her first scene starts with a bang, and I adore her. She’s really a spitfire, and I love her energy. I also love how she’s unapologetic herself, and she deserves a lot better in her life. Her husband is clearly an ass, so when Dominic starts paying attention to her and sees how much of an ass his son is, he can’t help but fall in love with her. Because she is amazing.

RD Baker does handle some themes in this book that can be triggering for some audiences and I loved that Dominic was never bothered by how those issues affected his love for Mia. They’re also both business people, Mia with her modeling career and Dominic with the football team, they have a lot in common, and that helps with their dynamic. Dominic takes care of Mia whenever she needs, and he’s always looking so proud of her achievements. Meanwhile, he believes that Mia will be mad because he didn’t pay attention to her during the day, and Mia knows how much Dominic has to work. They have the perfect dynamic, and they uplift each other. Dominic never wants to dull Mia’s light, and that’s how a man should be.

Dominic is the perfect blend of a green flag guy with a little possessiveness. He’s also unlucky when it comes to relationships, and he kind of resents that. Dominic loves giving himself in, he falls too fast, so when it comes to Mia, he tries to back down a little. He knows the feeling of falling for someone at first is always a high, but when the rush comes to an end, Dominic doesn’t want to hurt Mia. But Mia is not like his ex-wives, she’s someone like him, someone who understands Dominic and appreciates everything. The team, the club, the effort. They’re really perfect for each other.

“Dangerous Play” is a cute and fun book about two perfect people for each other, who ended up with the wrong ones. Still, the universe had to right a wrong, and Mia and Dominic will find their happily ever after, even after a lot of incidents and struggles.

ARC review:

Phew! This book was smoking hot. I was immediately sucked into the characters and the plot, considering that by the first page I was introduced to such a feisty and confident FMC. Mia came out with a bang, all while being a strong businesswoman, WAG and much more. A truly admirable character.

I must say I am not a big sports fan, but the football matches and the scandals that came along with attending all of those balls and after parties had me just as hooked to the pages. Not to mention it’s set in London, so naturally a picked up a bit of British slang while reading.

The forbidden romance aspect made me question Dominic and Mia’s interactions at first because their relationship was built on mutual respect and silly moments but once the romance kicked in I was swooning. Both of their personalities meshed together perfectly and added so much heat the plot, especially when the secrets started unfolding! Additionally, Doms acts of service was endearing to see and the way he preciously cared for Mia, not to mention cooking for her and baking her favorite meals, which was adorable, but also gave that perfect touch of warmth. It is easy to tell that always cared for eachother, and that connection only grew stronger when they made their relationship official.

"I know my stupid, foolish self has fallen for the last woman on earth I should have ever fallen for. It’s too late. I’m done."

Thank you RD Baker for the ARC

I AM UNWELL. That’s it. That’s the review.
Okay no—but actually— this is a full-blown chaotic, forbidden, emotionally messy MASTERPIECE and I devoured every single second of it.

Mia and Dominic??? ILLEGAL levels of chemistry.
The tension, the arguments, the slow slip from 'we absolutely should not' to 'I don’t care anymore' had me BLUSHING, kicking my feet, and questioning all my life choices.

Mia is THAT GIRL—angry, sharp, reclaiming her life after being completely wrecked—and watching her take her power back was EVERYTHING.
And Dominic??? Sir??? The emotional depth, the care, the way he falls so hard while trying not to???
I FOLDED INSTANTLY! THIS IS WHAT I CALL A MAN! HE IS WHY MY ODLER-GUY KINK WAS SO AWAKE THROUGHOUT THIS BOOK!

This book is not just spice (though YES it is 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 there), it’s packed with emotional weight—trauma, heartbreak, healing—and it makes every soft moment hit just as hard as the steamy ones.

And the DRAMA???
Missing husband. Media chaos. Family implosion. Public scandal.
I ATE IT UP!!

By the end, I was left with butterflies, a racing heart, and a full emotional hangover because somehow this messy, taboo love story turns into something so soft and just…right.🥹

∞/5 stars — scandalous, addictive, and completely consuming.

If you love forbidden romance with angst, tension, and ALL the feelings… you need this IMMEDIATELY!

“𝐢’𝐦 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞. 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞.”

i read “age gap” and “father-in-law,” and i was suddenly PULLED IN easily. mia being left to pick up the pieces and dom stepping in created such a good setup, and i loved how their dynamic slowly took shape. being around each other all the time made everything feel so charged, especially with that age gap hanging over everything. and dom is SOOOO fine. i love his confidence, the way he carries himself, the control, and then the way he focuses all of that attention on mia.

mia is QUEEN!! she was easily my favorite part. she’s vocal, strong, and doesn’t let anyone walk all over her, but you can still feel how much she’s been through and how hard she’s trying to hold herself together. their banter was alsooo so fun, and i loved how their connection grows through those moments before turning into something deeper. i giggled and kicked my feet at how dom is slowly softening for her. i adored how he’s becoming steady, protective, and actually showing up for her in ways that matter.

i finished this book suddenly wanting to find a DILF for myself ASAP my standards are in hell because now i expect a man with money, emotional intelligence, and the ability to actually show up correctly every time 😭

He’s a billionaire legacy football club owner with a list of failed relationships a mile long. She’s a model who is married to his son, who has abandoned his team and his wife mid-season and jetted off to Spain with his mistress, after leaving said mistress’s lingerie in his wife’s laundry. It’s messy. Every last one of them is morally grey, and I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT 🥵 They’re human, they make mistakes, and I spent half the time I was reading yelling at fictional characters and the other half rooting for them. And maybe throw in a cigarette and cold shower after the 🌶️ scenes, because boy were they 🌶️ in the best way possible.

The amount of crashing out I did in the ARC reader discord should be studied, because Dominic and Mia kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. I have a soft spot for messy characters because let’s be honest here, people are messy. Maybe not this messy, but as a woman who was cheated on (NOT by my husband, to be clear), I was cheering for Mia all the way through. I felt seen, in more ways than one. I do feel it’s important to be honest about this, there is an infertility storyline that may be triggering for some readers, but the author handled it with grace and empathy, and despite my own struggles in this area, I was able to read those scenes because it was handled SO WELL.

Tropes- taboo, son’s wife, age gap, he falls first, Owner x strikers wife, sports romance

"'How can it be too soon? Love's only a feeling, innit. There’s no timestamp on how you feel. No one says, Oh it’s too soon to be angry. How can it be too soon to say, I love you.”

Whewww this was absolutely amazing. It hit all the right spots when I read it, this book has it all taboo, age gap, and SPICEEEE. The pacing of the book was good this book was just unhinged but I ate it up like no other, this is my first RD book and definitely won't be my last, especially with what's this series becoming I will def be SAT for every book. Their chemistry is just insane I was giggling and kicking my feet and begging them to kiss like girlill. Dominic is a billionaire who also is the team football owner and Mia is his son's wife she's hot and a model who l absolutely love she was just everything and more. This book also deals with toxic dynamics but also really good ones and a lot of trauma so please READ TW

“The crickets sing as I kiss her, and I know that while we’ll have our struggles, our moments, our arguments - after everything we’ve been through, there’s nowhere I want to be more than by her side. This is where I belong. It just took me a while to realise it. But I’m here now. And it feels bloody wonderful.”

Kindle Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the second book I have read by R.D. Baker and it didn’t disappoint. You know a book is going to be good when the opening line is - "Where the f**cking f*ck is that f**cking wan*ker"?!

This is a Premier League football romance between Dominic (super hot DILF) and Mia (sassy and strong minded supermodel). This is an ex-husbands Dad age gap romance. Dom is the owner of the club and Mia is married to his super star striker son. Safe to say the son is bit of a t**t, clears off and leaves Mia alone. While he is away, the forbidden age gap (52 and 28) deliciousness begins and they realise they are VERY suited to one another. This is a super slow burn and is hot as hell when it gets going. They are perfect for one another. There is a suspense sub plot that keeps things interesting.

Forbidden age gap is one of my favourite tropes and overall I really enjoyed this one, it was very bingeable. I did think parts of the ending were a tad farfetched, I can't say anymore without giving away spoilers. But I knew what I was in for and I didn’t take this one too seriously. I enjoyed the HEA and epilogue. This book is on Kindle Unlimited.

I think there will be other books in the future focussing on other players in the team and I will definitely be giving them a go!

Mia and Dominic 😈🧎‍♀️had me smirking, giggling, cackling, blushing and crying 😭❤️ Their bond was incredible! It is intense with sizzling chemistry, and full of their love 🥹 Thank you so much, RD Baker, for this ARC ❤️

Mia Graves 🔥 Feisty, bold, independent, rich and pure fire 🥹 She made me incredibly proud, especially when she bantered with and kept Dom running circles around her 🤭 She knows what she wants, and that is her man 😈 Their banter and yearning, kept me turning the pages and finishing this in one sitting 🥹 Mia is one of my favourite fmc's. Her past had me wanting to hug her 😖 I adored her bond with her friends and how supportive they were towards each other.

Dominic Graves 🔥 Quiet, a little grumpy, older, billionaire, banterful, and obsessed 🙂‍↕️ He made his place in my heart after just a few pages 😈 Dom doesn't want to fall for Mia, but everytime he was around her, he fell hopelessly in love! The yearning and angst he showed made me giggle and kick my feet, because Daddy Dom 🤭 He is obsessed with, Mia and so protecrive over her 😍 He didn't tolerate any wrong, especially when it was about his woman 😈

The slow burn and spice 😈🧎‍♀️ It had me blushing, fanning myself and smirking because they are pure fire. The writing is incredible and kept me hooked through every chapter 🔥 Now those little sneak peaks and wonders has me 😏

OMFG RD did it AGAIN! Guys, I've loved RD since I read Fracture a year ago - her writing, attention to detail, character development pull me in every time and have gotten me to read genres and tropes that I don't normally favor (or even really like) and EVERY TIME I walk away so happy I stepped outside my box. I follow her on socials and when I got a chance to sign up for an ARC for her first sports romance I was making "grabby hands" saying GIMME! FMC Mia is DA BOMB! strong, self aware all the things you want in a bestie - she's married to MMC Dominic's son Archie (who has cheated and now up and left both his wife and the family's soccer club Arlington). We get a few twists and turns that even if you thought you knew what was coming, you really don't. We get a sweet romance, some great heat and some amazing supporting characters. a great best friend, Char. Guys on the team Troy, Jordan, Abedayo, Ezra and Ricky (OMG PLEASE LET THE NEXT BOOK BE Ezra and Ricky!) A couple of other strong women. And of course we can't forget Tank the dog. Anyway, even if you don't love the age-gap thing, or the forbidden romance of ex's dad - STILL give this a shot. Plus, we're going to get more from the Arlington team and I can't WAIT!

absolutely loved it…

I feel like I’ve been waiting for this book forever, and I’m so glad to say it did not disappoint. And if it did for you… I’m sorry, but your taste might be questionable JK lol.

So, Mia and Daddy Graves… where do I even start? I loved every second of it. Mia’s sass was easily one of my favourite parts give me a badass FMC and I’m instantly sold, and Mia absolutely delivered. I also really appreciated how the scandal was handled, and that scene with Joanna on TV? I was like, yes, yes say it louder! (Also, this is for RD I really hope she gets a book too because she deserves her HEA.)

And Daddy Graves? The man was everything. Honestly, a top-tier caretaker (for an “elderly” lol), and exactly what Mia needed and more. The angst, the tension… it was all just chef’s kiss.

As for Archie… yeah, someone definitely should’ve given him an ass whooping.

I loved the overall vibes and the diversity throughout it added so much to the story. The banter was top notch, and I can’t lie, I was a little jealous of Mia and Char’s friendship. I don’t have a female best friend, so I was definitely living through them for a bit lol.

Can’t wait for the next book until next time 📚✨

R.D. give me the rest of this series nowwwww. Pretty please. I just know this is going to be one I count down to with each release because I loved every minute of Dangerous Play.

Mia & Dominic are certainly an unsuspecting pair seeing as he’s her much older father-in-law. But the universe works in strange ways and here we are. With her taboo spin on an age gap, RD gave us a couple to obsess over.

Even though she is married, it truly feels like Mia is used to do everything on her own. Her husband, Archie, is extremely unsupportive of her career PLUS he’s a lying, cheating dirt bag.

Dominic feels a sense of obligation to look after his daughter in law when his son runs off to Spain in the middle of their season. Looking out of her safety, and keeping the PR Storm at bay, turns into more before ever even realized what was happening.

Truly, I enjoyed this from start to finish and got so giddy at the end when I saw a note about the next book! Thank you RD for having me on the ARC team for this release.

I was hooked from the first page.

Dangerous Play by RD Baker is a novel that made me feel like I was in a “scandalous” (in society’s standards) whirlwind romance too. I found myself biting my nails when it came to the chaos that is Archie and wanting to clobber him at the same time. I loved the embracing of the main characters flaws and growing from them— realizing yeah I did that wrong, but then trying to be better. I am so happy that there is also unity in this book between two amazing women that lift each other up during difficult times and defend them even when they don’t really know each other, just their stories. Dominic’s redemption arc is beautiful. Although he was trying his best some things slipped through the cracks (like Archie’s weasely a—) and his constant struggle of trying to get away from his family’s reputation didn’t make things easier for him. RD Baker wrote a realistic romance with likable main characters.

Thank you RD Baker for the eARC to review. All thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.

4.25⭐️ 3.5🌶
Tropes: age gap, forbidden romance, he falls first, sports romance, she's his daughter in law
Triggers: DV, open door spice scenes, toxic family, childhood trauma, assault

This was my first book by RD baker, and now I can't wait to read more of her. Dom is now on my favorite book boyfriend list. The way he cared, especially the cooking, sign me up. I loved the banter and the tension in this book. I was also impressed with how well she wrote the taboo aspect, had me rooting for Mia and Don from the start. Archie😡🖕no words needed. I experienced a range of emotions while reading from laughter to bawling my eyes out. Ch 27 was the most emotional for me, Dom and his dad talking, sharing their feelings and opening up was ❤️😭
There were 5 spicy scenes in this book. My favorite being the kitchen scene, especially with this quote, "There was no coming back from getting to my knees and eating my daughter-in-law's c*** before f****** her on the kitchen counter

ARC REVIEW

Dangerous play had me hooked from the start, like literally from the first sentence to the last. The book was funny, bold, spicy and emotional. It had me giggling like maniac, it had been a while since i enjoyed a book this much.

Dominic graves THE FATHER IN LAW. Ahhhh! He is so my type. The CEO check, silver fox check, Gentlemen check. He Definitely owns my heart. That guy is so attentive, and he cooks.

Mia Graves THE DAUGHTER IN LAW. She is such a sassy and independent fmc. Who does not take shit from literally anybody. She does not hesitate to pit people in their place. She is so fierce, there was so much fire to her i absolutely loved her as well.

This story contains taboo and is a big emotional rollercoaster.

FYI: I pretty much wanted to bang Archie’s head on the wall pretty much every time he was in a scene.

Ok, I love LOVE this!!! Forbidden romance and ex's dad are tropes that I go absolutely feral for, and R.D. came through! This book literally had my attention from the first line when Mia burst onto the scene, and it held my attention the whole way through. I'm so happy I got an ARC of Dangerous Play and I just know I'm going to reread this book so many times.

I really enjoyed the pacing, I absolutely love Mia and Dom, both as individuals and together. Absolutely adore Char and Kaisa, and Jordan, and Nnamdi, and the Arlington FC guys except "he who shall not be named." I'm also so in love with Tank, Mia's dog, he reminds me of my dogs, he's sooo cute!! I'm so excited for this world, and I can't wait to see how R.D. Baker expands this universe. Love love loved it!!! I literally didn't want this to end.

I received this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.

Dom + Mia

Dangerous Play drops you into the world of soccer (football). Mia is the daughter-in-law of our MMC.. YES, the father in law.. his son really is a piece of work.

Mia and Dom get closer as Mia's husband is missing in action. I loved how they interacted with one another and how Dom didn't sugarcoat things she needed to know about her husband. I will say there is an overlapping of 'cheating' due to the FMCs husband cheating. Her husband is going to make you so mad.. and Honestly, Mia has been through it. Yes, she is strong BUT she hasn't had the best upbringing and still managed to grow into a wonderful person.

Dom is caring, protective, and loyal. He is the perfect man for Mia.. One problem he is her father in law.. well it's only a problem until it isn't. HAHA. I do love an age gap, forbidden romance. These characters are so well fit, puzzle pieces and all.

I look forward to seeing who is NEXT in the lineup to find love.

This was a spicy, age gap romance with a bit of a taboo. Mia is strong and sassy but made a bad choice in husband. Dominic is a silver fox cinnamon roll and also the CEO of her husband Archie's soccer (football) team, Arlington FC. He is also Mia's father in law. At first they didn't seem to like each other. However, when Archie runs off to Narnia in the middle of the season, they spend time together just the two of them and their chemistry explodes. I really liked them together. He's so down bad for her and truly cares for her. She also truly cares for him despite his awful son. I am glad that they had people who supported them in their relationship. Char is 10/10 as a best friend. The book had a lot of humor and romance in it but also some serious darker moments. I really enjoyed it.

Couldn't put it down!

We start of with Dom getting a raging Mia storming in to his office looking for her waste of space husband (dom's son) and finding something in her drawer.

Mia and Dom grow closer over time and realise they've misjudged each other and feelings develop as the season gets underway.

Once Mia says she was a divorce (rightly so) do they act on their feelings.

The dramatic end of the book had me going through all the emotions and didn't expect to get so attached to these characters.

I absolutely loved this book, it was nice to read football themed sports romance rather than hockey or American football (nothing wrong with them).

This was my first RD Baker book and won't be my last!

Thank you for letting me read the advanced copy RD Baker
