A shocking work of political true crime from the only journalist fearless enough to expose the hidden networks of radical leftist extremism in America.
As a New York Times bestselling author and one of the world’s foremost investigative reporters on Antifa and left-wing extremism, Andy Ngo has spent years tracking the rise of violent ideologies that the mainstream media struggles to acknowledge. Now, he turns his investigative focus to an even more elusive, mysterious and dangerous the secretive death cult of “Ziz,” a transgender leftist anarchist terror group linked to eight deaths, including the killing of a U.S. Border Patrol agent and a key trial witness.
With exclusive access to court records, witnesses, and family members, and through deep-dive investigative reporting, Ngo unravels the chilling story of how a fringe online movement transformed into a real-world, international violent cult. Through meticulous research and on-the-ground reporting, he exposes the cult’s ideology, recruitment tactics, and its connection to broader radical leftist movements. As authorities scramble to track down the group’s fugitive members, Ngo pieces together the cult’s deadly footprint, from alleged assassinations to execution-style killings, revealing how its computer science “genius” leader, the enigmatic Jack LaSota—known as “Ziz”—manipulates followers into carrying out horrific acts of violence.
This book is not just an exposé—it is a warning. As gender extremism and leftist ideologies continue to radicalize and grow unchecked, America faces the risk of more groups like the Ziz cult emerging. With law enforcement hamstrung by political pressure and mainstream media refusing to investigate, Ngo stands alone in sounding the alarm. His fearless reporting has already changed the national conversation on Antifa. Now, he delivers the definitive account of one of the most shocking and underreported violent threats in America today.

This was one of the most interesting but also terrifying cults in recent times, as they're recruiting from some communities adjacent to mine, and communities with billions of dollars. It's also incredibly confusing what actually is going on with them, and it revealed some massive limitations in early prosecutions of non-obviously connected crimes (local crimes in 3 separate areas, by the same group, but where local police didn't realize they were connected...), slow-rolling of prosecutions, the problems of Covid on the legal system, and "protected classes" taking advantage of government protections to abuse the system.
Very little press coverage of this cult. It's honestly unclear to me which aspects were most relevant: trans, vegan, EA/rationalist, Very Online all seemed to be contributing factors, but "genuinely evil" seems like the main driver.
Andy Ngo has done a great public service in exposing Jack LaSota, aka "Ziz," and his followers. Ngo identifies all the Zizians by their biological sex and varied names. The Zizians appear to be intellectually gifted in the areas of computer science and math. Most came from privileged backgrounds. They became transgenders and radicals who believe that killing human beings who eat meat is justified. They killed Curtis Lind, an elderly man who had been kind to them and was their landlord because he wanted them to vacate the premises where they lived in box trucks they called "slackmobiles." These trucks were filled with computers, welding equipment, and medical supplies and instruments. The Zizians lived in these vehicles and conducted experiments in them.
Ziz and company are linked to 8 violent deaths, including those of Lind, a Vermont Border Patrol Agent, the adoptive parents of a female member, and two male suicides. The Zizians are masters of disruption and deceit. They behave like spoiled children who were never disciplined.
This is a chilling, fascinating, and detailed account of what the Zizians did and are doing. Ngo notes similarities with the rising violence of the political left and how justice systems fail to recognize this threat. Ngo deserves an award for this meticulously researched and written book.
