Folly’s Rooftop

Rate this book
Layla Spencer has been sheltered her whole life against her will. Her mom is overprotective and suffocating with good intentions, but all Layla wants is to have her freedom and be treated like an adult—especially now that she’s eighteen.

Maverick Lawson has too much freedom, too many issues, and too much trauma. To anyone else, his family seems perfect, but there’s a fabrication hidden in the dynamic. All he wants is to get away from the ones who raised him, and find anything that will numb the pain he keeps a secret.

When Maverick’s family moves next door to Layla and her overbearing mother, Layla can’t help but be curious about the mysterious boy across from her.…

In Book 2 of the Secret Hideout Series, we catch up with Layla and her story after her appearance in Book 1: “Grimm’s Bridge“. This story gives a beautiful insight to the weight people may carry in secret, hurt behind a smile, and how big of an impact having someone who cares can make. Sometimes life is hard, but love doesn’t have to be.

Classic Girl Meets Boy

Once again I would have loved a little duel POV but more than anything I needed an epilogue, I really feel like my girl left me hanging in this one lol. The characters in this book are a bit older and instead of faded to black the author went with moderate details but compared to book 1 its is very new adult. This one raised my pressure and at about the 55% mark I felt like it was dragging and sort of repetitive so I put it down for a bit and came back to it. It very much felt like a part 1and a part 2 read because it does pick up with the progression of the relationship around 60%. I’m still very much enjoying Dashia Renee’s writing and I’m very excited about the 3rd book because clearly she can go light and cute or heavier and hot. I’m here for the ride either way.

“But since I’m always the bad guy in everybody else’s story, the villain just seemed more fitting.”

Folly's Rooftop is a story full of searching for independence and acceptance. Layla is trying to figure out who she is apart from her mother, while Maverick is trying to create a life for himself that no one else expects of him. The boy next door may be Layla's answer to the puzzle pieces she's missing.

Much like Dashia's other books, this one brought a soft ease to the heart. Both characters so relatable, so charming, and so deserving of love !

couldn’t put it down !

We love a bad boy but who knows when to be a soft soul ! If you read Grimm’s bridge you know Layla deserved a happy ending and maverick complimented her so well ! The author, Dashia keeps the comfort and ease of romance while still being realistic and true to human nature and it is refreshing ! Love it and can’t wait for the third book !

Folly’s Rooftop is one of those coming-of-age stories that sits with you long after you finish the last page. It’s tender, emotional, and painfully real.

Layla has spent her entire life being the “perfect daughter,” sheltered by a mother whose fear of her growing up too fast slowly becomes a cage. Her world is small, controlled, and quiet… until Maverick moves in next door.

Maverick is the definition of the misunderstood bad boy, carrying more trauma than anyone his age ever should, and masking it behind walls he’s built to survive. The pull between Layla and Maverick feels natural, raw, and inevitable. Their connection isn’t about saving each other. It’s about understanding, about being seen, and about finally allowing themselves to breathe.

I saw so much of myself in Layla like her curiosity, her longing for freedom, her quiet rebellion. My heart ached for the weight Maverick carried on his shoulders. Their journey wasn’t rushed or forced; it unfolded in a way that felt honest and deeply human.

This story is about growth, first love, healing, and choosing yourself even when it’s terrifying. I’m so glad Layla and Maverick found their freedom together and within themselves.

A beautifully written, emotionally resonant read that deserves every single star. ⭐️🖤

Absolutely loved this book! It had drama it had love it had spice it had conflict. This book was so real it had me on a roller coaster of emotions. From the dynamics between Layla and her mom and then Maverick and his guardian it was never a dull moment. The love connection between Layla and Maverick felt genuine and the struggles that they faced in their relationship were real life scenarios that are happening daily. Make sure to check your trigger warnings there is mentioning of abortion, alcohol abuse etc..

All that to say just go ahead and buy the entire series 💞

loved Layla and Maverick

Favorite book so far by this author and not because of the spice (ok , maybe a lil bc of the spice), their books get better and better.

This was a darker romance than we are used to from this author, but to me it felt the most relatable.

Layla and Mav are next door neighbors that soon blooms into so much more. Layla is smart, kind , and funny and Mav is a “bad boy” motorcycle driving mechanic with a difficult past. Together, they are adorable and get a HEA.

Do not want to give away the plot, so keeping this short…just go read it!
