Making Him Known
God's Word
We all make sure our children know the stories from the Bible.
But can they understand their meaning and know the Storyteller behind them?
Sally Michael shows us that even young children can understand the Bible’s message of sin and redemption, because God wrote it to everyone, young and old. In God’s Word she provides a captivating, child-friendly resource for parents to approach the Bible with their children and to involve them in reading it for themselves.
Her exploration of the Word addresses how it came to us, what it tells us about its Author, what it tells us about ourselves, and why it is the most special book ever written. After children learn about the Bible and how to read it, she takes them a step further and teaches them to be doers of what they read.
Give your children a firm, early foundation on the truth—introduce them to God’s Word!
“Many adults do not have a good understanding of the doctrine of the Word of God. Sally Michael has written an easy-to-read devotional book that will help parents teach their children about the properties of Scripture. God’s Word shouldn’t be intimidating. A proper knowledge of the Bible gives us hope, helps us to identify false teaching, increases our gratitude and trust in God, and results in his Word becoming more precious to us. Don’t you want that for you and your family? What are you waiting for?”

3.5 Not my favorite of the group, maybe because I was expecting a much more narrow focus, like lessons on scripture and the bible itself, and it had some of that, but it also had a lot of lessons on the message of the Bible (ie. "The Bible's Message: There is No Other God" "The Bible's Message: All Have Sinned" "The Bible's Message: Saved by Grace")....which are all well and good, but felt like it could have gone in any book in the series. Anyway, I think this rating is more inspired by the silly thought in my head that we were going to go into hermeneutics and exegesis with kids (which excited me because I'd not seen that done before) and got what probably all normal people in the world would expect instead. :) So, not bad, just not as "cool" as I was thinking but if you look at the table of content page ahead of time, maybe you'll not make my mistake and think it's something else when it's another. It did have a few apologetic type chapters for Scripture which I was wanting, just not the majority of it. God's Battle still wins as my favorite of the series so far.

As Christian parents, it is important to build a strong biblical foundation for our children. So many Christian children books are very light in theology so when one that is strong on biblical theology comes along that encourages truth so that the heart can be influenced through understanding – the mind, then the heart, then the will that we can along with our children love the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind. This is for parents that are serious about giving their children biblical understanding. In knowing who God is through Creation and through his word, and his complete authority in all things.
This study is a family devotion that is relational, interactive, understandable, theological, and applicable. Each chapter ends with a family activity to apply the truths within each chapter. It offers questions such as “What does God mean when He talks about “for the sake of my holy name”? It discusses what sin really is and how it affects our relationship with God and others. Each chapter is Gospel centered in that it displays God’s goodness, our need, the cross and our response.
It is reassuring as well as it encourages the faithfulness of God in all things that we can trust him. That God’s glory is ultimately for our good.
A special thank you P & R Publishing, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

God’s Word is another tremendous book in the Making Him Known series. This volume is about teaching children about God’s Word, the Bible. It seeks to show what the Bible is and how it functions in our entire lives. The concepts are clearly covered and in a manner that keeps children engaged and interested. The illustrations are nice. They add to the lessons and do not overwhelm or distract.
As in all the other books, God’s Word includes brief instructions for parents and good starter questions to lead into times of discussion and to see where your children are with specific concepts and lessons. What is consistently surprising about works like these is how they are able to take complex and nuanced topics and distill them for young minds. That, in itself, is not that impressive. But to be able to do so in a manner that retains the depth of the topic and keeps the young audience engaged and understanding is a real feat. And it is commonplace in this volume and the others in the series.
While Sally Michael doesn’t use terms like inerrancy, inspiration, perspicuity, illumination, etc… But, she does teach these concepts and even more and does it in a way that kids get it. Sally Michael uses Scripture, stories, and historical anecdotes to teach about the Bible, its place in the world, and its place in our lives. Every book in this series is a blessing, to families and to the Church as a whole and the volume, God’s Word, is as good as the rest!
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher.

This beautiful little book for kids answers questions about the Bible in a simple but deep way they can understand. Who wrote the Bible? How can I know that the Bible is true? How can I understand the Bible? What are the most important messages in the Bible? How does God preserve His Word? How can I use the Bible in my life? All these questions and more are answered from Scripture with illustrations and Bible stories that go along with each lesson.
The pictures are delightful, and I love the language and how the chapters are structured. This would be a wonderful book to read along with a young Sunday School class, or to read with a child at home. Even as an adult, I was inspired while reading it!

This is the third book we have read in the Making Him Known series. This is an excellent devotional that children and adults can benefit from. Sally Michael has a gift for taking rich concepts on the doctrine of God's word and writing them in a way even young children can understand. Highly recommend this series!

This book was amazing. I read it as a devotional with my son. Each day I was convicted and learned more about God's Word. Sally Michael has a way with using word pictures to explain very complicated doctrine in a way the young children can understand it. Highly recommend!
