Death from the sky… death from the sea… or death from a savage horde of enraged Japanese…
From the best-selling author of the USS Bull Shark series…
Yamamoto and Hyakutake must retake Henderson Field at all costs… General Vandegrift and the Marines must hold it at any price… and the butcher’s bill keeps rising. Pouring on the pressure, the Japanese launch deadly aerial assaults by day and terrifying battleship bombardments by night. The American forces barely have time to lick their wounds and repair the damage before the rising sun delivers another searing punch to their gut!
Away on a special mission with Art Turner and Bull Shark, Al Decker and his Raiders return to find that more than 22,000 Japanese now occupy the land beyond the Matanikau… and they’re marching through the jungle for an attack that’ll make Bloody Ridge look like a Sunday dance!
With Decker back on the island, Admiral William “Bull” Halsey now in command of the South Pacific and the untested 164th Army Regiment fighting beside them, can Vandegrift’s Marines hold off Hyakutake’s massive army… or will Guadalcanal and the jungle finally devour them?
Tensions explode and guns thunder in the bloodiest Decker’s Raiders yet!
I am always overwhelmed by the courage and valor of the US Marine Corps and my fellow squids of the USN. Scott speaks the language with truth and grieves the losses as any veteran does. Love all yer books, Scott and look forward to the continued tribute. Haze Gray and Semper Fi, pal! PS - can't wait to hang with Jarvis again.
This book seemed much more rushed and incoherent than the other Decker novels. Love the historical fiction aspect, but this one had so many character story lines, it really took away from the book. I wish it would have just focused on Decker and a limited number of story lines instead of bouncing all over the place.
Good book sixth in series. Read them in order to get the complete story. They are entertaining and make you want to keep reading. The only problem is where is number seven in The series to pick up the loose ends. What happens to Decker and his female friend, did the Sarge with the burned arm get his promotion?
Once it starts it doesn’t stop till the last period! Excellent story that lets you pull up a chair and come to grips with “The Canal.” Great read that mixes Decker’s Raiders in with the men that fought. This series is not a waste of time.
Always interesting to see the interactions between the Japanese and the American forces on Guadalcanal. And tying in two real heroes made it even better!
