One night with no names, no mercy, and identities hidden with a mask.
One swipe right, and she becomes Red.
I become her hunter.
She believes she's meeting a stranger.
She's wrong.
I've been stalking her long before the app.
Heartbreak has made her reckless, and she's confessed her darkest desires out loud. Together, we're a toxic love story for the ages, but will it have a deadly ending? She belongs to me, regardless of my sins, and she always will.
In these woods, I make the rules.
This isn't a night of romance; it's primal instinct and dark obsession.
Toxic desire sharpened into hunger, and I'm ravenous.
She can't escape me now.
By morning, she'll understand the truth.
She wasn't here for the thrill. She was here for me, the hunter who's been waiting in the dark.
The man she has always belonged to.
Some love stories don't end happily.
They end in possession.
Author's This is a dark, erotic, horror-suspense-romance that contains obsessive themes, stalking behavior, and morally black characters, and is intended for mature readers. This book does not end with a HEA or HFN.
Devoured this in one sitting. I'm a sucker for primal and a good retelling. Loved Cordelie and Noah is something else. Story was so good. Check TWs but definitely worth the read.

I absolutely loved this read. I didn't want to put it down! This is a dark erotic, horror suspense-romance. Our FMC Cordelie is suffering deep emotional trauma due to her ex partner Noah our MMC, and her what she thought was her best friend. Trying to move forward in her life from extreme heartbreak she enlists in a Valentine's Hunt. Hoping to breakthrough and forget her past self. She wants to feel empowered and stronger. What she doesn't yet realize is her match for the hunt is a totally unhinged, obsessive, psychopath who is about to capture her and mark her as his forever. This story is dark, very suspenseful and does not have a HEA for some. For a shorter read, this story was packed and I loved every second of it! Please check your trigger warnings, as this story does contain a lot of darker elements

Where to start with this….please be aware that these are my own personal opinions and it shouldn't sway you if you're still interested! I greatly appreciate the writer for even attempting this story!
I originally requested to read this book because I wanted to read something dark, haunting, scary, visceral. Honestly, it started out well. Our FMC Cordelie is a 'good girl' who has self-deprecating thoughts, and she's shattered when she finds her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend at a party. Personally, I've been there. I've been this girl; she really began with resonating with me deeply. I got so excited.
Noah, our MMC, is the epitome of the toxic guy mixed with dark fantasy visuals, tattoos, dominant, tall, dark and sexy. Or so we are told-the girls around him seem to just want to jump on him constantly despite who he's with.
My main issues with this read aren't the ones I expected-I appreciated the characters foundations, and the premise is really intriguing. Unfortunately, it reads as a huge mess to me. Using dual first person POV, I expect to be fully inside the narrator's mind and experience their emotions and sensations. Especially given the nature of this book, I especially wanted to feel shocked, horrified, disgusted and left shaking. That's why I signed up for it. Instead, I was left constantly pulled out of the story to be like, "Huh?" We are told one moment one thing, then the narrator does something that completely disregards what we are told the next. It's confusing and messy.
Noah is a bit more consistent than Cordelie in his actions at least, but it's really just all very one note. And if they're "conflicted" it just doesn't come across. Honestly, his constant use of the pet name he has for Cordelie (which I found personally cringey, but I'm aware that's a me thing) is so overdone, and we really didn't need as much of his POV because it's mostly just a copy paste of his last time we are with him. Yes, he's one track minded but it got so redundant that I was tired of it rather than horrified.
While I buy that Cordelie is still drawn to him, has a darkness in her and all that, there are moments that you need to have a massive talent to suspend your disbelief about things to stay engaged. She just lets things happen to her later and not in the tragic giving up kind of way. More so in a lazy way, like explaining the emotional impact or the physical trauma and sensations are just too bothersome. One scene is so absolutely ridiculous that she could know what was going on that I had to put the book down and walk away because I was so fed up. There's also a scene where she says something to Noah, and I found it actually quite clever and had an "Oh hell yes!" moment, but a chapter or two later, her best friend/roommate says the EXACT same thing, and Cordelie acts as if she's never heard it before and reacts like it's a burn. I had to go back and forth to check to make sure I wasn't imagining it.
Honestly, I should have DNF'd this, but I kept thinking it would give me more. Ultimately the ideas are there, the horrors are there, the darkness is there. But it's just out of reach because I didn't FEEL any of it. The sex scenes weren't sexy, and while the actions were deplorable, it wasn't conveyed in a way that made me feel anything. Shock value was there, but the emotional impact was nowhere to be found.
As someone who has actually had quite a bit of this happen to me (yes, the horrible dark things), and I resonated with Cordelie because I've been there and been in that mindset, I found myself bored, annoyed and a bit frustrated at this read. Maybe to someone who hasn't experienced these things, it might be dark and sexy and sick, but to me it felt… almost insulting. I actually had to go look up the author to see how old she was, because this reads like someone who is really young and possibly hasn't experienced anything she's writing. I am not saying that she hasn't, that's not for me to know, but it just comes across that way on first impression.
I'm aware these are my own personal opinions and feelings, but I personally wouldn't recommend.
I do appreciate the attempt at writing this, but while it's definitely got dark and toxic words, it lacks the emotional impact of anything that's actually happening to make it a true disturbing horror to me.
Fractured is not a love story. It is a hunt dressed up as one.
From the very first chapter, the book strips away the illusion of romance and replaces it with something far more dangerous: obsession without apology. There are no heroes here, no gentle redemption arcs, no soft landings. Only hunger, control, and the slow tightening of a trap that was set long before the heroine ever realized she was being watched.
The masked-encounter premise feels deceptively simple at first — a dark, anonymous game meant to blur boundaries and ignite forbidden desire. But the tension quickly shifts. What begins as reckless curiosity becomes something far more sinister when it’s revealed that the man behind the mask isn’t a stranger at all. He’s a predator who has already chosen his prey.
And he has no intention of letting her go.
What makes Fractured so effective is its complete commitment to the darkness. This story doesn’t flirt with obsession; it dives headfirst into it. The male lead is not morally gray. He is morally black — possessive, calculating, and terrifyingly certain of what he wants. His devotion isn’t romantic in the traditional sense. It’s territorial. Primal. Absolute.
The atmosphere of the woods amplifies everything: the isolation, the danger, the animalistic tension between hunter and hunted. Every scene feels like it’s unfolding under a canopy that blocks out both light and logic, leaving only instinct behind.
And the ending? It refuses comfort. It rejects the expectation of happily-ever-after and instead delivers something far more fitting for a story like this: a conclusion rooted in possession rather than salvation.
This is dark romance in its most unfiltered form — obsessive, unsettling, and unapologetically toxic.
Final Verdict: Fractured is a seductive descent into obsession, where love isn’t gentle and desire isn’t safe. Perfect for readers who crave morally black characters, predatory tension, and endings that feel more like ownership than romance.
ARC Disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own — unapologetically so.
Fractured is not a love story. It is obsession sharpened into survival, and it does not pretend otherwise.
Looking for dark? This is the place to look.
I devoured this in one sitting, and it was delicious in all the worst, most compelling ways. This story leans unapologetically into morally black characters, stalking, trauma, murder, and primal survival. Read the trigger warnings carefully and know your limits before diving in… Because this book does not pull its punches.
Cordelie is emotionally shattered after betrayal by both her partner and someone she trusted deeply. Desperate to reclaim control over her life and feel something other than heartbreak, she signs up for a Valentine’s Hunt, believing it’s a game, a thrill, a way to move forward.
She’s wrong.
What she doesn’t know is that her hunter has already been watching her.
Noah is obsessive, unhinged, and terrifying in the most deliberate way. His fixation on Cordelie isn’t romantic; it’s possessive, predatory, and deeply disturbing. And that’s exactly what makes him such a compelling character on the page. In real life, he’d be a nightmare. In fiction, he’s written with a chilling psychological precision that kept me glued to every chapter.
The dynamic between them is a brutal cat-and-mouse game fueled by Cordelie’s insecurity and Noah’s need for absolute control. Her resistance is what fuels him, and the tension between survival and surrender is constant, suffocating, and incredibly well done.
This is a dark erotic horror suspense romance, and it does not offer a traditional HEA. Some love stories don’t end happily; they end in possession. If you go in expecting romance or redemption, you’ll be disappointed. If you go in expecting darkness, obsession, and psychological terror, you’ll be rewarded.
This was my third read by A.L. Maruga, and she is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. My pitch-black soul absolutely thrives on stories like this.
What I’m left wondering most is… what exactly is wrong with me that I enjoy these twisted, primal, cat-and-mouse stories so much?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC provided by the author— all thoughts are my own. 🖤
First of all, thank you so much for the amazing opportunity to read this book! And wow, what a book it was. This was the second book I’ve read by Maruga, and I have to say she’s quickly climbing her way into my favorite authors. My dark, sometimes pitch‑black soul absolutely loves books like this.
This story does not have a happy ending, nor is it your typical Valentine’s Day read. Fittingly, the story even includes an anti‑Valentine event, which perfectly captures the vibe of this book. Maruga warns at the beginning that the FMC isn’t strong in the traditional sense, but I disagree. The amount of crap dumped on her—and the fact that she survives it with her sanity intact—is absolutely a sign of strength.
I loved the male main character—what a brilliantly crafted, sick obsession he has with the FMC. As much as I admire Noah’s character on the page, in real life he would be genuinely dangerous, which of course is the whole point. But for the reader, he’s a deliciously compelling character with a masterfully built psychopathic mindset.
Cordelia’s insecurity about herself is the perfect foundation for Noah’s twisted need for control, and her strength in pushing back is the spark that fuels Noah’s rage.
As you can tell, this is not a love story, not a happy relationship story, and it definitely doesn’t end in a final resolution. But if you go in knowing that, this is an incredible read.
What I’m left wondering the most is: what on earth is wrong with me that I enjoy these dark, twisted cat‑and‑mouse stories so much 😁
Fractured is a dark, erotic, horror-suspense-romance that contains obsessive themes, stalking behavior, and morally black characters. Heed the trigger warnings. They are there for a reason, and there are more of them than items on your grocery list.
Dark, thrilling, downright nasty, heart-pounding, degrading, intense, and thought-provoking. Wander into a world where love becomes toxic, and darkness will terrorize or titillate. Just when you think you've figured out what will happen next, you'll be thrown off track and sent down a rabbit hole. This book is for those ready to confront difficult themes and moral ambiguity.
Who doesn't have dark fantasies they wish could act upon? Cordelie's recent breakup badly hurt her self-esteem, leaving her timid and self-doubting, but her dreams are anything but. Given the opportunity to live out her Red Riding Hood and the big, bad wolf fantasy, she takes the chance and signs up for a Valentine's Day event. All she wants is to forget her lying, cheating ex, Noah, and her ex-BFF, Josslyn. Thanks to their belittling and degrading behavior toward her, Cordelie's head is messed up. Noah's is no better. He's obsessed with her now that he can't have her. What ensues is a downward spiral for both of them that culminates in psychotic terror. This story does not offer a traditional happy ending or a happy-for-now. It just ends. If you are brave enough, turn the pages for an anti-Valentine's treat. Or is it a mistreatment?
This book is unapologetically dark, emotionally violent, and devastatingly addictive. It does not offer comfort, forgiveness, or a shiny HEA. What it does delivers is something far more realistic... Survival.
The spice is intense, raw, and often uncomfortable, perfectly mirroring the power imbalances and psychological damage woven throughout the story. Nothing is softened for reader ease.
The characters are morally black to the core, driven by obsession, control, and trauma rather than love in a healthy form. This book is written to make you feel the weight of every choice.
The MFC’s journey is brutal to witness. Her pain is not used as a plot device or as something that will be magically healed by the final chapter. By the end, she is free—and that freedom is the closest thing this book gives to a happy ending. She survives, she escapes, and she reclaims herself… but the trauma remains. The scars don’t vanish. And that honesty makes the ending hit harder than any traditional HEA ever could.
If you want a dark romance that pushes boundaries, challenges your comfort zone, and delivers an ending rooted in freedom rather than fantasy, Fractured is a must-read.
This book is for readers who understand that sometimes the bravest ending is simply surviving.

Please be warned this is not a dark romance where the FMC and MMC ultimately live HEA. This is not a story where the MMC is toxic but his actions are redeemable - he is a bad guy, just awful and unforgivable. The triggers warnings here are real and are not an over exaggeration, they are constant. Before reading - really consider them.
This is a short read and most of it is spent in the build up to the game. That build up is needed but I would have happily read some more covering the during and the after. But that might almost be the beauty of the story - the reader is left wondering and thinking.
This is a story of one women’s survival against obsession and darkness. It’s messy, it’s chaotic and it’s not perfect. For the entire story, I was desperate for Cordelie to be ok and have some joy within her life. Will she get that? I really hope so.
As always @authoralmaruga has done an amazing job of showing us the dark side of the human psyche - the obsession, the possession and the pitch black thought patterns.
If pitch black is for you, this is a good one but proceed with caution.
5✨ please remember this book is a NON HEA so it is not for everyone. Fractured is one of those books that you just can’t put down until it’s over because you have no idea how this is going to play out. i don’t know what this says about me but i love a toxic book. now it went from 0-100 real quick. At first i just thought he was a jealous. oh boy was i wrong. please read the trigger warnings before reading. this book isn’t for the faint of heart and the MMC is morally pitch black.
Wooooow, what did I read?! I couldn’t put this book down for a second. It was unhinged, dark, obsessive, crazy, and so much more. The author gave us the perfect completely obsessive MMC that was pitch black.
Cordelie finds her boyfriend, Noah, and best friend together and everything shatters. She is the good girl on the outside, but deep down she has some darker desires. She thinks a Valentines Haunt will help heal her heartbreak, but she has no idea how wrong she is.
Noah..he is psychotic and unhinged! He is obsessed over Cordelie and very possessive anytime another man gets near her. This man was disgusting the way he treated women as property.
This is an insane cat and mouse dynamic. I just wanted her to realize who she was talking to all along. I wanted her to resist him. But we have always been there where we can’t let someone we love go.
This is a very dark erotic suspense, it’s a romance read, but it does not end in a HEA. But I couldn’t love the ending more, it’s what needed to happen.
Fractured by A.L. Mauga A Dark Stalker Toxic Love Retelling
This story begins in a coffee shop with Cordelie and her roommate, Faye, when they unexpectedly spot Cordelie’s ex-boyfriend, Noah, sitting with her former best friend, Josslyn. From that moment on, the story unfolds and reveals everything that led up to that painful encounter.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster filled with twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. The writing is engaging, and the characters are well-developed and easy to become invested in. I found myself deeply emotionally involved in Cordelie’s journey and couldn’t help but cry a few times. I was truly rooting for her throughout the story. Please Check Trigger Warnings.

Omg, that was literally SO TOXIC and unhinged. Eeeep, just what I expected and wanted.
Noah and Cordelie are……I have no words except toxic lol. The book starts with a bang, it is super fast paced with lots of drama and freaky shit I was like waitttttt, tis kinda hot? But I don’t think I’m supposed to like this. 💀 But let’s get one thing straight - I hated Noah. He was EVIL. And horrible, selfish, manic, unhinged, so crude and all the bad things. Like he was Stephen DeMarco but boosted and manic frfr. I liked how Cordelie was sweet with her hidden kink curiosity, but she did grow some balls at one point and that is when I cheered her on. GO GORL.
I am totally fine with non- HEAs, but I didn’t know how this would pan out. I did predict one of the twists, but still, this had my attention the entire time.
I knew going into this it was going to be dark, I even had to look up 5 or 6 or the words on the TW list. But I didn’t expect the toxicity that was Noah. He was truly fractured, he had to break the best thing that had happened to him on his terms, before it ended on someone else’s. I was sympathetic to Cordelie, her inner voice persuaded her that wasn’t worthy, some of that sympathy waned after the club, but I could also see why she’d done it. Noah’s obsession was ultimately his downfall, but I wasn’t expecting that ending, that shook me. This is not a Valentine’s story, it’s almost the exact opposite, but it is a story of survival and coming out the other side stronger than you thought you could be. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️
Dark, uncomfortable, and addictive—Fractured is filled with obsession, fear, and broken power dynamics. The characters are beyond morally gray, damaged, and beautifully, violently broken.
While Maruga has said this isn’t meant to be a traditional HEA, dark romance readers can rest easy—this story delivers a deeply satisfying ending that feels earned, cathartic, and true to the FMC’s journey. It’s not soft or sweet, but it is fulfilling in the way that matters.
Read at your own risk.‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Content Warnings: Graphic violence, stalking, captivity, psychological manipulation, trauma, and dark themes throughout.
Thank you to A.L. Maruga for the ARC!

Oh this book was absolutely fantastic! You have Cordelia who is the MFC who was dating Noah and ended up finding him with her best friend. What she didnt know when she was dating Noah was he had a dark side to him. Noah kept his dark side in check until he lost Cordia and he loses it. Cordia is completely heart broken over losing him and she is doing what she can to get over him but Noah is not making that an easy task. She ends up signing up for a night of fun on valentines day where she can live her erotic fantasies out with a complete stranger and they will go there separate ways after. Will her fun night be on to remember for fun or will this night traumatize her for the rest of her life?
Thank you for again letting me be an ARC reader for another of your amazing stories!
This book is dark, heartbreaking and has a lot of trigger warnings. I however didn’t read them and went in blind and what a wild ride! This story doesn’t have a HEA well not in the common way but I think it was a perfect HEA for the FMC Cordelie. The book was written in so much detail and I think it captured the psychotic nature of the MMC Noah perfectly while also capturing the mental hold he had on Cordelie. This is a short read but with so much packed into it! I couldn’t put it down.

I received this book early..and WOW!!!!! It is DARK, PSYCHOTIC..and I LOVED every minute of it! Cordelie goes through all the things..and my heart hurts for her. Noah 🌶️🥵 is unhinged, psychotic, obsessive and possessive..but not going to lie..I felt a little bad for him at times. Sly 🥵 is a sweetheart and I felt really bad for him. The book was a whirlwind of emotions for me..but I loved every second and totally recommend for the dark romance baddies. Definitely check your triggers. There are some heavy ones. I have none 🙃 and live to go in blind 🖤.
What a freakin ride Fractured is!!!! It's very aptly titled because both Noah and Cordelie are Fractured! This book is dark, suspenseful and gutwrenching and I couldn't put it down. If you're looking for sweet, normal or happily ever after, this isn't for you. This book is completely unhinged, dark and dirty. There's lots of elements in this intense, dramatic story that could be sensitive to some readers so be aware of the trigger warnings before you start reading. If you're still up to it, then sit back, buckle up and enjoy the ride!
First and foremost, if you’re looking for an HEA, look elsewhere. This is dark and delicious and pushes some boundaries. The TW are there for a reason. Now to the good stuff! The level of darkness in here is something only a little new for AL, IYKYK, and she delivered flawlessly. Something may be wrong with me for the moments I wanted to see the MMC redeemed, but he’s a monster. Our FMC is so strong and such a bad a— overall. Some sensitive topics are involved and they were dealt with tastefully and full of empowerment. Loved this!!
A dark Little Red Riding Hoood retelling, and boy do I mean DARK!!! Cordelie thought her and Noah had it all, until she finds out who he really is. But it doesn't happen all at once, because that would be easy. Noah has a very Jekyll and Hyde situation about him; and he isn't used to being told no. There's spice, murder, mayhem, and a grocery list of other dark themes in this book. Please check your trigger warnings.

Thank you for the opportunity of reading this! Please be warned this is not a dark romance where the FMC and MMC ultimately live HEA. This is not a story where the MMC is toxic but his actions are redeemable. The triggers warnings here are real and are not an over exaggeration, CHECK THEM BEFORE MOVING ON!
Well holy hell, the first couple pages of this book got me so upset. A heartbreak is already horrible enough and to add betrayal and humiliation on top of it makes it even more terrible. I'm so glad that Cordie grew, lived and became stronger throughout this book. Noah is what we can become when listening to the negative voices in our heads. To me this was a good read. I recommend this book.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is not a romance, nor have a HEA,has a long list of triggers and definitly not for the faint of the heart. That said ,it's beautifully written ,perfectly executed and balanced, with the unmistakable style of AL Maruga. Perfect for lovers of dark and edgy stories. ☠️Morally Black Characters ☠️ Obsession 💀Stalking ☠️Depravity ☠️Murder ☠️Trauma ☠️Love/Hate ☠️ Primal Play ☠️Dark Kink
Holy…I am obsessed with this read. I will warn you that this is not AL’s normal HEA reads. This is dark and twisted, and absolutely amazing. Cordelie is everything that every woman who has been through trauma wishes she could be. She has her moments of weakness but she is definitely a strong FMC! Love love love this read.
Perfect timing!! This book couldn’t of landed at a better time. Filled to the brim with obsession and danger, this book is dark and spicy. Not a happy valentine romance but a dark horror with a toxic love vibe. Please check author notes for content awareness as this is a DARK read! 5 stars for this NO HEA thriller !
There are not many MMC I don't like but I HATE Noah!!! It sad that Cordelie had to do that to someone she once loved but it was the right thing to do! Loved the story, love A.L.'s writing. Good read!
