HOLY SMOKES! This book is just want I needed. A nice small town romance with lesions in love, life and finding yourself. It shows love is not always going to be perfect it is going to be messy and confusing and complicated. And the main part is trying to find yourself are and who you want to be. And the author captures all of that.
As a new romance reader I couldn't have chosen a better option! This book had so much heart and reminded me of the small town I also grew up in the 80's. The ending left me hanging in the best way and I cannot wait until the next book to find out what happened. Spicy spicy spicy men!
What a surprising and REAL small town love story! This gem is filled with lots of HEART, and the trials and tribulations of having a spotlight and learning where to focus the lessons learned. Daphne is a true heroine, navigating men's affections, community expectation, and I the spoiler of another reviewer hooked me in with the paint scene, but it was Robert's HEAT and care for Daphne that kept me hooked! The Dairy queen scene is such a quintessential 80's moment, and that principal can go f* off. The Silence of the Lambs moment was like I was there! (I think I actually was). Overall, a 5 out of 5 stars and I can't wait to read the next books in this series!
“The Love Life of a Small Town Beauty Queen” leans into its small-town setting with a strong focus on reputation, expectations, and the pressure of maintaining a perfect image. While the book does include spicy content, it felt less like a traditional romance to me and more like a story of self-identity and coming of age. Daphne’s journey is less about finding love and more about understanding herself beyond the role she has been placed in, which gives the story a more introspective and character-driven feel.
Overall, the writing is solid and easy to follow, with a tone that fits the nostalgic, small-town atmosphere. That said, I did find certain choices a bit hard to connect with—particularly the decision to have a small-town girl intentionally lose her virginity to a stranger in the very first chapter, which felt somewhat unrealistic to me. But, of course, that comes down to personal perspective—after all, it’s not my story. Despite that, the book offers an engaging look at personal growth and the struggle between societal expectations and individual freedom.
AI cover, AI reviews on Amazon. AI portrait of the author. And I dislike accusing people of this directly - but the book reeks of AI editing and/or prompt help. Could just be straight up copied and pasted. A TON of random and nonsense similies. I won’t comment on the emdashes (though there are so many, it feels like stylistic and more like a crutch) since that isn’t definitive. But listing descriptions in groups of threes.
Nothing makes me want to continue a book less than knowing you couldn’t be bothered to pay for a simple stock image, or pay an artist/photographer to oblige your request. And then actually reading the thing convinced me that little of this book was made by a human. Wonder how much water was lost for this.
I’m gonna be honest, I hate leaving bad reviews but this book was just not good. The spicy scenes were the best part of the book and were decently written, if not too rushed. I mean, I finished it and I have no idea what it was really about, it just ended like in the middle of the FMC’s heartbreak. The beginning was all about her family and how they were strict on her because she’s a beauty queen and then they were never mentioned again. She had multiple relationships with much older men and spent every Friday with one of those men and you’re telling me her family didn’t realize or hear the rumors and put an end to it. Also, the entire book was just like an endless string of apophasis.

I love the retro feel to the setting and the story in this book, it brought me back to growing in similar conditions. Performance, looks, expectation, a clean reputation are what a girl in a small town wants back in return for their chosen one. But when she finds her femeninity in the arms of an older man, it awakens so much on her, and she starts to rebel on the town's expectations. A great read!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved the retro element in this. That was so much fun. And honestly, I loved Daphne. She learned life wasn’t all about waving and looking pretty. I enjoyed the was she navigated through life in this small town. This was fun and spicy. Sweet and really brought back memories. I had a really great time reading this one.
If you miss the 80's and want some great spicy sex scenes, then this book is for you. I loved the characters, am deeply invested in Daphne's story which is funny, adventurous, and full of great twists and turns. A must TBR. Giveaway... "PAINTAHOLIC!"
