They call me the Devil of New York. King of the Underground. God of blood, secrets, and control.
Atlas King doesn’t ask. I take—loyalty, territory, flesh. I built my empire on ruined men and whispered names, and beneath the city, I rule Erebus, a private BDSM club where power is worshipped, and mercy is forbidden.
Then came Luna.
A girl with starlight in her eyes and defiance in her bones. I should’ve let her go. I should’ve broken her. But instead, I watched her dance in the dark—and fall to ruin.
Now she’s my obsession. My ruin. The softest thing I've ever touched—and the only one who could drag me to my knees.
But the underworld doesn’t forgive love. And in my world, salvation comes at a price.
E. L. Emkey is a mama, wife, and gypsy soul. Her love of reading started when she was only three years old. As she got older, she started sneaking her mom's Harlequin romance novels about Scottish Highlanders and sexy cowboys. Her joy of being a writer is creating characters her readers can relate to and worlds they can disappear in, even for a short while. She loves raising her children and feeding her chickens; her family is her life.
Pardon me while I purchase every book this author has ever written. .. I’ll be back w me review
★★★★★ | “Atlas ruined me in the best possible way.”
This is hands down my favorite dark romance of the year. EASY five stars. This book completely consumed me and I already know I’m gonna be thinking about it for a long time. Official Jersey girl ruling? Absolutely obsessed.
First of all, E.L. Emkey’s writing is unreal. The imagery, the atmosphere, the emotion — every single scene felt cinematic. I wanted to highlight half the book. The way she describes obsession, power, fear, devotion, violence… it pulls you directly into this dark empire and refuses to let go.
And Atlas? Lord help me. This man is dangerously devoted. The second Luna becomes part of his life, she becomes his absolute weakness. He would burn the entire world to the ground for her without hesitation — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes this story hit so hard.
What I loved most is that the danger actually felt REAL. Luna is not dealing with petty romance drama. She is in serious, dark, life-altering trouble throughout parts of this book, and there were multiple moments where I literally had to stop and stare at the page like WHAT is happening right now?! But somehow the author takes all that darkness and turns it into something completely addictive.
Atlas rules this underground society like a king, but there are still enemies, betrayals, power struggles, and family complications constantly circling him. And the second people realize Luna is the one thing that can destroy him? They exploit it every chance they get. Watching a man that powerful completely unravel over one woman was absolute perfection.
And the spice? 4.5/5 EASY. Every scene somehow got better than the last. It never felt forced or repetitive. It matched their connection perfectly — obsessive, emotional, possessive, intense. It HIT every single time.
This book was dark, emotional, violent, obsessive, heartbreaking, and beautifully written all at once. Atlas officially owns a piece of my soul now and mentally I’m somewhere on the Parkway trying to recover.
Plot: 4/5 • Spice: 4/5 ➡️➡️➡️ I loved Atlas and Luna as our MCs. Their dynamic and how they gravitated to each other, complementing each other was right on target. Their banter was fun. The fact that even in her worst fears Luna’s character didn’t break.
Mob boss. Ruler of the underground, Atlas. He would break and bury anyone for Luna. (and he does) He absolutely falls first and hard. There’s no one for him, but her.
The negative thing I will say about this read: it is 10000000% predictable. Everything you guess absolutely happens. Kind of a bummer. The MCs bond and growth make up for the fact you just know what’s happening next.
Stories are about connections and yes, this one definitely has several. Especially the lessons within it where I’ve asked the fates and yet here they lay within the words within each word written. I suppose the saying “read between the lines” truly has meaning and this world, my gut feels what answers I have seek’d. Walls are meant to be torn down and when humans cannot achieve, book boo’s and the phenomenal author behind, will. The song Infected by Bad Religion fits in ways that takes my breath away!! Atlas, where can I find the real-life you I crave, I want-need, and desire. Luna, baby girl I need to take a a page or more chapters out of your book because you are a queen within the Hell-the dark that looks where the light and, the warrior has existed like it does in each of us. Anticipation like a Spector, a ghostly touch or a breath that’s held. Where the lingering of worlds being told stays behind like an unspoken promise of life inside what’s after. E. L. Emkey I have another review to create but this one flowed. Thank you for this stunning world you created and forcing some form of hope to survive within the reckoning.
I have loved all of The Brotherhood men with everything in me. Buuut Atlas...Atlas is totally different and I am completely, 110% madly in love with him. He is everything and more. I don't care who he is, what he does, nadda, zilch. He loves with his whole heart and I am here for every single second of it!
Luna. Oh Luna. The little firecracker that she is, is absolutely perfect for Atlas...I mean after me of course 🫣🤣 but no seriously, she isn't a "take care of me" kind of lady, she's a "I'll be all up in your face" type of lady and I love love love her for it.
Now the absolute chaos that she has endured, good grief, someone put this girl on an island with only her and Atlas so nobody else can EVER cross her path. She deserves a break!
The ending?! Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. I NEEEED the future, like yesterday. Omg! I loved every single second of the last few chapters, but like...I'm hanging on by a thread needing a crystal ball or something. Pleaseeeee! I need it!
I don't even know where to start with Atlas. The Devil of the Underworld is a man I would happily worship. The way this man had me in a chokehold should be studied. And Luna!!! Omg she's such a strong FMC, no bs type of gal and I loved her. Emkey almost had me in the first few chapters of this one. I will be moving the rest of her backlog up my TBR immediately. 10/10
From the beginning to the end, this book will have you on the edge of your seat. I couldn't put it down and when I did I couldn't stop thinking about it. The amount of twists and turns keep you wondering what will happen next. The books does start off heavy so be warned (check the triggers before you start), however, the chemistry between the main characters has you routing for them until the end.
If you loved The Brotherhood series you will absolutely give your soul to Atlas. He might be the devil in human form but he will do ANYTHING for the ones that he loves. I love how we get to see Archer (The Devil's Hunt) make an appearance...he will always be my favorite but Atlas might have taken that spot. Dark mafia romance is my bread and butter, that is why I will always love E.L. and all the dark mafia books she writes. If I had to say Atlas is by far one of my top reads of 2026.
I swear E.L. Emkey just gets better and better with each new book. This on has knocked it out of the park. Super spicy!!!! Tons of tropes and triggers. I absolutely love Atlas King. He is the perfect Devil of the underground! Luna is so strong, smart and witty. Such a bada$$ FMC. This book had me holding my breath on minute and gasping in anticipation and shock the next. Original and thrilling. I couldn’t put it down! I didn’t want it to end but when it did it was incredible!! 5 ⭐️ 5🌶️
E.L's way of contacting the perfect lust driven diversity and intertwining some 13D$M into it was just utter perfection. I loved how this played into the brotherhood 💙. This will have you hooked from the first chapter. This isnt a light read so please read your ⚠️TW's ⚠️. I loved the development throughout but that ending ugh 😑 I NEED MORE!.
Oh hey! You are in for a treat with this one! E. L. Emkey never stops amazing me with how dynamic her writing can be!
This particular start to her new series is HOT! Like smokin hot! But it’s so much more than that. She has this like old school way of writing where even when she is creating a dark Empire romance there is still a sense of poetic romance throughout. There is emotion and chemistry that has been carefully constructed. There is humor and banter that is very much my style of sarcasm and wittiness.
You have our MMC who has been dubbed the Devil of the Underground in NY. Much like a mafia boss, he has his hands in multiple business facets and is tied to a family we have seen before in a previous series 😉. He’s unhinged, unafraid to leave a mark, and is not known for being gracious.
Our FMC is so relatable in that she is in a lost phase of her life. She’s been through some traumatic experiences and is now kind of just surviving. She’s not a pushover though and will have you chuckling and rooting for her!
The supporting characters are just as lovable and entertaining as the main characters! I wish we could honestly have a book for all of them because I’m nosey and want the inside scoop to their brain 😂.
Atlas was such a great kick off for this Dark Empire Series with the suspense and action, the steamy moments (that fit these characters beautifully), and the plethora of quotes I highlighted because they just hit the soul! It absolutely leaves you craving the next book!
🖤Soft for only her 🥀Touch her and ☠️ 🖤Damaged FMC 🥀One night stand 🖤Forced Proximity 🥀Morally Grey Villain 🖤 Mafia vibes 🥀 Dom/ sub dynamics 🖤 “Mine”
🌟Please read the list of triggers before going in as the book does have a few dark, emotional, and traumatic scenes.
🌟 This is a beta review. Huge thank you to E. L. Emkey for the opportunity to read this early!
This is one of those books that grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go. From the very first page, I was completely immersed in the story and emotionally invested in every moment. It’s beautifully written, deeply moving, and impossible to put down.
The characters feel incredibly real — flawed, complex, and full of depth. Their struggles, growth, and connections hit hard, and I found myself feeling everything right alongside them. The emotional intensity of this book is unmatched, and it lingers long after you’ve finished.
The romance is powerful and layered, built on tension, vulnerability, and undeniable chemistry. Every interaction felt meaningful, adding to a story that’s as heartfelt as it is gripping.
Atlas isn’t just a book you read — it’s one you experience. It stays with you, settles into your thoughts, and leaves a lasting impact. E. L. Emkey has created something truly special here, and I won’t be forgetting it anytime soon. ✨📖
This book said “plot? mafia? BDSM club? found family chaos?” and then threw ALL of it directly at me. 😭
First off — this is a dual POV and I was hooked almost immediately. Luna is a cocktail waitress who unknowingly spends the night with a man who turns out to be a literal crime lord. The tension when they recognize each other the next day??? INSANE. Atlas walks around like danger wrapped in whiskey and expensive suits, and Luna matches his energy way more than anyone expects.
The chemistry in this book is absolutely feral. Atlas owns an underground BDSM club, so if you like possessive mafia men, praise, punishment, domination, collars, “touch her and die” energy, and a MMC who calls her little moon because her name is Luna… this book will probably ruin your life a little.
That being said: this is HEAVY on the spice. I’d honestly say it’s about 70% sexual content and 30% storyline. Some scenes started feeling repetitive for me personally, and I definitely skimmed a few later on. But when the plot hit? IT HIT.
The trafficking rescue scenes, Luna slowly embracing the darkness, the found family dynamics with Arrow and Orion, and Atlas being an absolutely unhinged yet devoted man had me INVESTED. I also really loved how Atlas’s family welcomed Luna with open arms instead of creating unnecessary drama. Those moments added a softer side to the story underneath all the chaos, violence, and unhinged dialogue.
Atlas as a character is basically: “murder, mayhem, devotion, aftercare.”
And honestly? Valid.
The ending gave a solid HEA and left me weirdly attached to this entire morally gray disaster family. If you want a dark mafia romance with obsessive love, over-the-top possessiveness, unhinged spice, and emotional chaos, this is it.

Luna and Atlas are absolutely the queen and king of New York. They would burn the world for each other. It’s also clear they both also understand the risks. Being at the top of the crime syndicate in New York isn’t easy or safe, and that just makes them love each other more fiercely. I liked that Luna and Atlas had to grow as individuals while learning their relationship. They both had some issues from their past they needed to work through in order to work fully together.
This book had a lot of spice and I loved every scene 🥵. There were also a lot of great quotes!

Such an intense love story of a Kingpin. Thank you E. L. Emkey for giving me this opportunity to review this book. I have never read a book where the underworld kingpin was so committed to a woman from the get go. Their love is so beautiful and fierce. I loved Atlas and Luna's chemistry... I loved how Luna hated to be treated as a damsel.. her reaction to every situation was very refreshing not something expected of a FMC. The chemistry between her and Arrow was so entertaining An intense dark romance and BDSM. A perfect blend of Erotic, Mafia and Romance.
OMG, this book destroyed my ability to think completely. This is the first time I've read this author, and the first thing I did was run to Amazon to see if it was for sale in paperback. This was the absolute best, spicy hot, intense read ever. Wickedly delicious. I need a moment to compose myself.
“Women don’t usually keep The Devil of The Underground’s attention for long . . . until you.” I was hooked from the beginning! The trauma that Luna endured was so intense that nothing was going to stop Atlas from avenging her. There was a lot of smut that took away from the plot a bit but still really good!
E. L. Emkey writes characters that feel authentic and layered, with an emotional depth that really drew me in. There’s a quiet intensity to the writing that keeps you engaged, even when the pace slows a bit.
I especially appreciated the balance between vulnerability and strength. It gave the story a raw, genuine feel without becoming overwhelming.
It didn’t quite hit 5 stars for me due to some pacing dips, but the strong character work and overall atmosphere made it a very worthwhile read.
I’m truly honored to have been chosen as an ARC reader for this one.
This book grabbed me by the throat from page one. Atlas is every inch the ruthless underworld monarch — cold, calculating, lethal — until Luna steps into his world and matches him with a ferocity that feels like destiny.
Their connection is carved out of trauma, desire, and the kind of chemistry that feels dangerous to touch. The sexual tension is molten, the emotional beats hit hard, and the descent into their shared darkness is addictive.
I wanted more of Luna’s past, because the shadows around her were some of the most compelling parts of the story. But honestly? This was a vicious, sexy, high‑stakes rollercoaster and I devoured it in a day. No regrets.
ATLAS CAN DO ANYTHING HE WANTS. Where can I find him? Amazon???
I genuinely loved this. The story, the background, the characters. My first book by this author, and definitely not the last, as this had me HOOKED. 😮💨
The way Atlas is obsessed with Luna and women are shocked he isn’t a sociopath when he shows up with her has me IN LOVE. I want Atlas all to myself. 🤭
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

From the very first moment, there is something off about Atlas. Not in a way that pushes you away… but in a way that makes you lean closer, even when you know you probably should not. He is not written to be safe. He is not written to be good. He is written to be inevitable. The kind of man who does not ask, does not hesitate, and once he decides something is his… there is no undoing it.
And Luna?
Luna is not fragile in the way people expect. She is damaged, yes, but not broken. There is a sharpness to her, a survival instinct that makes her just as compelling as the man who refuses to let her go. She does not melt into him. She meets him, challenges him, and in doing so, becomes the one thing he cannot control the way he controls everything else.
Which is exactly where this story becomes addictive.
Because the dynamic between them is not built on ease. It is built on tension, power, and a constant push and pull between vulnerability and dominance. The forced proximity strips away any illusion of distance, and suddenly everything becomes too close, too intense, too real. The one night stand may have started it, but what follows is something far more consuming.
Atlas is the definition of morally gray in a way that actually means something. He is not softened for the sake of romance. He is not redeemed in neat, comfortable ways. He is dangerous, possessive, and completely unapologetic about it. But when it comes to Luna?
He is different.
Not kinder. Not gentler.
Just… hers.
That “soft for only her” energy hits hard here because it is not loud. It shows up in the way he watches, the way he protects, the way he claims without asking for permission. It is obsessive, yes, but it is also deeply intentional. And that balance between control and devotion is what makes it so compelling.
The mafia undertones, the power dynamics, the tension that never fully settles… it all builds this atmosphere where nothing feels entirely safe. And yet, somehow, the connection between them becomes the one thing that is.
That is what makes this work.
Not because it is healthy. Not because it is easy.
But because it is honest in what it is trying to be.
This is a story about obsession that borders on devotion. About two people who should not work, but do in a way that feels undeniable. About a man who was never meant to love… and the woman who made it impossible not to.
It is dark. It is intense. It is a little unhinged.
And yeah… I ate it up.

Holy hell! Very few books hook me from the very first sentence — and I don’t even start from the dedication.
Atlas popped into my feed thanks to Instagram’s weird little algorithms and immediately caught my attention. My only regret now is that I hadn’t heard of it earlier and haven’t read a single Emkey book before this.
Atlas is the undisputed king of New York’s underworld — a calculating, cold strategist known as Devil. Luna, on the other hand, is a young woman surviving day by day. When these two collide, the sparks fly instantly.
Where Atlas is brutal and violent, a danger to everyone, Luna becomes his only weakness in a heartbeat. And Luna is no helpless damsel — she’s a full-on badass who wants nothing to do with princess treatment. In many moments she’s the tougher, stronger one in the criminal world.
When I said the book pulled me in immediately — something very few manage — very few also make me cry right out of the gate. And oh lord, I bawled like a child. At the same time I laughed through the fury, read with my heart in my throat, terrified. Everything you could possibly want from a book.
The book is sizzling hot, and there’s so much intensity that even the cover gives a perfect hint of its fiery, passionate nature.
If you liked Fifty Shades of Grey, this is worth considering — but — this one has a hell of a lot more triggers. In the clashes between Russian and New York crime bosses there’s no cheek caressing or soft cotton‑wrapped comfort, and the book’s twists follow that tone.
Atlas and his Little Moon permanently stole a spot among my favorite reads of the year, and I can’t wait for Arrow’s book coming next month. A big, big recommendation.
𝓐𝓡𝓒 𝓡𝓔𝓥𝓘𝓔𝓦 Atlas by E.L. Emkey completely consumed me, and I’m actually unwell over this man 😭🖤 This book had me hooked IMMEDIATELY, and somehow every chapter just kept hitting harder. Atlas??? Yeah, no… that man is INSANE in the best way possible. Powerful, feared, emotionally unavailable at first, but then suddenly he’s caring, protective, vulnerable, leaving NOTES, cooking??? Sir, pick a struggle 😭🤌 Watching him slowly let Luna in had me giggling, kicking my feet, stressing out, ALL OF IT. And Luna?? OH SHE ATE. I loved that she was bold, stood her ground, defended herself, called Atlas out when needed, and still chose him, fully knowing exactly who he was. We love a strong queen fr 👏 But honestly, the side characters deserve their flowers too because Arrow, Orion, and Aurora made this book feel so alive. The banter??? elite. The sibling moments??? obsessed. The found family vibes??? inject it directly into my veins pls 😭🖤 And THE PLOT??? HELLO??? The suspense and slow unravelling of everything had me fighting for my life because I constantly needed to know what happened next. I’m impatient as hell, and even I was like “okay fine… I’ll wait” because the buildup was THAT good👀 This book genuinely had everything I love: intensity, softness, emotional moments, tension, caring relationships, and a man so devoted it actually hurts💀 Atlas… the man you are. Anyways, I’m emotionally attached now, and that sounds like a me problem😭🖤
Atlas was dark, intense, chaotic, and definitely not short on drama. I was hooked pretty quickly by Atlas and Luna’s relationship and the whole dangerous world surrounding them.
Atlas is exactly the kind of morally questionable MMC you'd expect from a dark mafia romance. He's ruthless, possessive, and pretty terrifying when someone threatens Luna, but I really enjoyed seeing the softer side of him come out around her. His relationship with Orion and Arrow also added some great banter and gave the story moments of humour between all the darker scenes.
Luna was also easy to root for. I liked that she wasn't completely helpless despite everything thrown at her, and watching her become more involved in Atlas's world made her character even more interesting.
The kidnapping and revenge storyline brought a lot of action into the book, and there were definitely moments where I had to keep reading because I needed to know what was going to happen next. I especially enjoyed seeing just how far Atlas was willing to go when it came to protecting Luna.
The romance was probably my favourite part. Their relationship started with intense attraction, but it gradually turned into something much more emotional, and Atlas's devotion to Luna was impossible to miss.
Overall, Atlas was a dark, spicy, action packed mafia romance with a seriously possessive MMC, plenty of violence, emotional moments, and a romance that kept me invested. A solid 4 star read for me. 🖤
I had the privilege to receive this ARC from E.L.Emkey. thank you sooo much for the opportunity, happy to leave a review (:
Wow! This was such an incredible read. It had me in a chokehold. It's just one of those books that literally sucks you in from the very beginning. It's hot and sexy and beautiful but brutal. Truly a wonderful ride to go on.
A one night stand becomes so much more for Luna, turning her world upside down. Luna is strong and absolutely fearless. The perfect woman for Atlas King. Atlas, the king of the underworld. Brutal, murderous, and feared. He thought he was untouchable until he met Luna.
Their relationship is absolutely brutal and beautiful. Breaking each other apart just to build each other back up. Its poetic. I don't want to go into too much detail because then I'll spoil it, but my goodness! The vulnerability from this ruthless man is exquisite. A king worshipping his queen. He burn down the world for her.

This book is for you. Hands down one of the best empire romances i have ever read with a happy ending.
OMG THIS WAS AMAZING!! I knew this was gonna be yummy by just reading the start of the blurb. It said, "They call me the Devil of New York. Then came Luna." After I read that I was all but dying to read this and boi I am so glad I did. The character Atlas and Luna were so hot. They were so compatible and very good together. Watching Luna turn Atlas into something that he had never been before. It was just a very good book. The spice was absolutely phenomenal. The relationship between the main characters was beautiful and how it blossoms naturally and just amazing. Overall, if you want an amazing book with 2 amazing main characters, some BDSM, and some amazing spice with a great story this is ur book. I'm so glad I got to read this book it was amazing.
EL my beauty you truly outdid yourself with this suspenseful book that I absolutely loved every stinking second of. This book took me forever to finish, but I’m so so glad to finally finish it today. There’s something about your writing that always has a chokehold on me every single time.
This book was a whirlwind that made me laugh hysterically a few times, annihilated, my poor heart, made me hot and bothered, made me swollen in so many other things. Atlas and Luna will have a special place in my heart because they went through so much. This book had so many twist and turns that I didn’t know what to expect, and I loved every second of it.
If you have absolutely love a book that is unhinged with beautiful moments of that will make you swoon, then this book is for you. What are you waiting for people? You seriously need to get this book today. Everything I’ve read and listened to of E.L. Emkey has always left an impression.
This book was so intense. The connection between Atlas and Luna was so incredible. They’re magnetic from the start! I love how obsessed Atlas is. Luna just gets him. He’s only soft for her and I love that so much.
This book is so fast paced. Lots of action, twists and SOOO much hot spice. This book does have dark moments, so be mindful of trigger warnings. Luna is so strong, Atlas will really burn the world down for her.
I was lucky enough to receive an early copy from this talented author. With all my reviews I will always urge you to read the content and trigger warning pages to make sure this is truly the dark romance you are looking for.
Atlas is more than a man, he’s the devil. Morally black with an empire to rule. While he’s very sure of his place, there’s always a snake and traitor waiting and praying on the down fall. He’s never had a weakness. After all what’s a monsters weakness?
Luna. Aptly named as she is bright in the dark, but like the moon she has her own dark side. This isn’t a Disney fairytale. Together they face shadows, trauma, and his very intense family. The plot continues to take turns of unexpected trials forging the devil and the moon in fire.
This book is everything I want from a dark romance: intense plot, a mafia man that falls first and over the top possessive, a bad@ss FMC, unhinged delicious spice and some heartwarming found family! I had such a good time reading this book! Honestly the past couple months it was extremely hard to get myself to focus on reading because of so many personal things happening in my life but this book sucked me in and gave me an escape!
Luna is a cocktail waitress who had a one night stand with Atlas not realizing he’s literally the Devil of the Underground! The next day she’s at work and Atlas is there for a meeting and he can’t take his eyes off her. From there the plot takes off, their relationship grows and it was such a fun time.
The chemistry between Luna and Atlas was off the charts hot and unhinged! Atlas owns a BDSM club so there is a lot of heat from praise, punishment, domination and collars PLUS he calls her “little moon” which is one of the cutest nicknames!
There is quite a bit of spice….I would say there’s more spice and relationship building compared to plot but it’s still an engaging story! I loved all the scenes with Atlas’s family and friends, I especially loved getting to see the characters from the Brotherhood series!
Overall, I absolutely enjoyed this book and would recommend it to dark romance lovers just make sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in!
