Bonnie Vanak fell in love with romance novels during childhood. While cleaning a hall closet, she discovered her mother’s cache of paperbacks and started reading. Thus began a passion for romance and a lifelong dislike for housework.
After years of newspaper reporting, Bonnie became a writer for a major international charity. She travels to destitute countries such as Haiti to write about famine, disease and other issues affecting the poor. When the emotional strains of her job demanded a diversion, she turned to her childhood dream of writing romance novels.
She lives in Florida with her husband Frank and two dogs, where she happily writes books amid an ever-growing collection of dust bunnies.
I find myself wondering why these books are part of a series called "Mini." The books are the same length as a regular book in the Montana Werewolves series, so it has nothing to do with length. Does it have to do with being a microcosm of the Montana Werewolf series and therefore mini? But I'm not sure because the Mitchell back and the Wizards were very much involved...this could easily just be another in the Montana Werewolf series. Things that make you go hmmmm.
In this one, we have Alexa's best friend, Jessica, who is adopted, hears at last from a long-lost blood relative who sends her a purple belt with power crystals on it. She wants to know more about this person claiming to be her brother so she decides to head to Alexa's house and use J.J.'s access to the alpha database of werewolf genealogical records and find out what's what. Of course, Raphael, J.J.'s sexy beta is there and wanting to get Jessica naked. She's not opposed to this in the least, but he better not get in the way of her finding her brother. Raphael does of course. He doesn't trust Jessica's reasons for being at the ranch and she's acting super suspicious, but he's falling for her anyway.
Not a bad story as far as storylines go. I liked the whole long-lost brother sends an evil-corrupted gift that makes the heroine think dark thoughts thing. That part of the plot, as she tries to uncover who she is and where she comes from was actually pretty good. The romance didn't do much for me on the whole though. I think part of it was the irritating heroine. She read sort of like a spoiled teenage girl instead of a mature, college-educated adult. She constantly complained about how lonely she was and how nobody loved her and she didn't have any family. Meanwhile, the girl has like ten adopted members in her family and we got an actual scene of one of her little brothers telling her he "luvs her." She still calls her adopted mother, "foster monster" and she laments on how she has to do chores and babysit while she's living with them. She's not the least bit grateful that she's living rent-free while she saves money to pay back her college loans or appreciative of her family's love. She wants more...a "blood" relative. So yeah - ignoring all the people who love you and complaining how no one loves you is pretty spoiled, IMHO. I didn't care for it. It also made me wonder how Raphael couldn't see that about her. You could say it was the belt causing the problems - but she's sullen about her family before she gets it and she whines about "just wanting to be loved" after it's destroyed.

Steamy read about Jessica, a virgin who is searching for her brother, and Raphael, a pureblood alpha who wants Jessica as his. They both have baggage to get over and they end up helping each other. Their passion for each other overrides what they think they should do. They finally mend their broken hearts through their love.
I really didn't like Jessica, so it made the book less enjoyable for me. I didn't like the fact that she was so sneaky and went to visit Alexa with the sole intention of breaking into JJ's office and computer system, that is not a friend, that is a user.
I enjoyed the book. It was a good read. It was written really well and the chemistry between the characters was great. I really liked Raphael's character and his sexual innuendos.
“Then again, you do have that kind of Dave Grohl look. Except your hair isn’t as long.” She tapped a finger against her upper lip. “And your mustache is a little wilted.” Raphael sputtered. “I assure you, little Red, nothing on my body is wilted.”
The innuendos were the best. They were like the highlight of the book for me. I really enjoyed the romance. If I could fault something I had some dislikes about Jessica's character. At times she was pushy and selfish and downright annoying. At the end when she has to choose between Raphael and Jules and she was choosing Jules at the beginning it utterly killed me. I couldn't handle it because I was like did what Raphael and her have, was it just for nothing. All is well at the end though. I just wish that I could trust and respect Jessica's character more.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The story was an enjoyable romance with a mystery! The book was an easy read, a fantasy with werewolves, gnomes, and magic!I'm new to shifter romance. I read this book in one day!. I liked the characters Raphael and Jessica. Raphael was an alpha wolf, sexy, witty, he lost his family, and was looking for revenge. Jessica was an orphan, adopted, searching for her family. The beginning of the story was fast paced , but slowed down near chapter 3. Jessica + Raphael had an intense sexual chemistry that keeps the reader reading! it was funny, mysterious and had sarcastic moments!
I love Bonnie Vanak's Werewolves of Montana novels and minis. Hot Shape-Shifter men and the women they will do anything for. True Love, Fate and soul mates. Amazing story lines and characters. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
