A gentle romance
Small town homecoming, Valentine’s Day and idiots to lovers - what more do you need? Check out Lessons in Love.
Love is hard enough for most people. When you add anxiety into the mix, the difficulty goes up several notches. So when Mara’s friends decide she needs ‘help’ to get back in the game, they choose her old friend Evan, local firefighter and her long term crush.
Evan didn’t pay too much attention to Mara until her sister got sick. Then he saw her - really saw her. Now dealing with the grief following her loss (and a bad breakup as well), he wants to protect and care for her. But how can he do that when he is facing his own demon - PTSD - as well?
This novella was beautiful. It was such a gentle, kind romance showing life after loss. I loved how real and supportive the characters were. Several characters showed their love and care through small gestures. It wasn’t all about the big moments - it was also the quiet awareness of the other person’s needs.
I loved the humour. I particularly loved the representation across the group - aside from anxiety and PTSD, there’s migraines and autism in the mix. The town is filled with glorious personalities that will no doubt have their moments in future stories.
This is an open door novella, but the spice is not overly detailed. The villains of the story are the characters’ mental health and the battles they had to fight against themselves. The story does deal with cancer, grief, panic attacks and PTSD - but all in a very gentle way.
If you want a small town rom com dealing with some real issues, Lessons in Love is the book for you.

does an amazing job of infusing so much heart and heat into this first installment of Cedar Falls. The novella blends together moments of female friendship, fake dating lessons, and some honest mental health rep without feeling rushed. The novella will leave you with all the warm and fuzzies as you watch Evan and Mara work through some of their own fears and anxieties as they also support each other and find a path to each other.

I cannot wait to return to Cedar Falls!
This novella is quick but spicy, and does not lack in plot and tension. It was everything that I look for in a cozy and a romcom all rolled into a novella. If you need a pallet cleanser, here ya go!

Hannah Till writes from her soul. She takes her own experiences and delivers amazing stories through characters that grab you right from the start. In her newest release, Lessons in Love, she provides a wonderful storyline of finding love while also dealing with mental health issues that can bring their own problems. With this being book 1 in her Seasons of Sin in Cedar Falls series, this short, sweet story will have you ready for more of Hannah!
Evan and Mara have been friends for some time. Mara has always had a crush on him, but has never been brave enough to do anything about it. Add on her anxiety and the fear of anything going wrong or their friendship being ruined is kicked up a notch. Evan wants nothing more to protect and care for Mara. He didn’t notice her until later in their friendship and now that he has, really noticed her, that is, he can’t imagine life without her. Yet he struggles with own mental health around PTSD. These two hearts were made to help heal one another.
Both of Hannah’s MCs are beautifully written. It is evident that the mental health struggles that Hannah includes in her story are either things she battles herself or is close to people who do. She has a way of the story remaining serious, while layering in moments of humor that bring the perfect lightness. It was easy to connect with our MCs as they continue to orbit one another. And when they finally let their walls down, it was amazing to watch how the other knew just how to be there.
As I said earlier, I can’t wait for more from this series and already have characters that I hope to see more of. I have always enjoyed reading Hannah’s books and this is just another to add to that list. Not only is this about finding love, but also finding the courage to accept you for you, loving yourself, not letting anything define you that you don’t want.

Checked out Lessons In Love by Hannah Till over the weekend! This is a cute, low-stakes novella about an extremely anxious bookworm who runs her own bookstore and a firefighter who secretly wants more. Or perhaps it’s not so much of a secret because it doesn’t take long for various townspeople to meddle!
Mara our FMC, has breathtaking anxiety and is also still trying to overcome some particularly tragic life events. The thought of dating gives her heart palpitations…but with Evan, our MMC, it’s a bit different. Evan has always had a soft spot for Mara, and was thrilled when she moved back. He sees her struggle and knows how difficult it can be- especially with his own experiences. Through that meddling I mentioned earlier- Mara gets herself pulled into some dating lessons with none other than Evan and we see small gestures, stolen glances, hand brushes, flirting, banter, etc.— one lesson at a time. Slowly Mara opens up, and Evan comes to terms with the fact that his feelings for Mara run deep 😉.
The representation of Mara’s anxiety and Evan’s PTSD were well written, least in my opinion! There’s a lot of inner dialogue, second guessing, and panic. The whole “struggling to accept compliments” is suchhhh a real thing. I appreciated seeing them both actively working on themselves- not hiding their struggles.

Can I just say that I come from a small town and I don’t recall having any firemen like Evan and I feel robbed! Life can be so unfair sometimes but at least Hannah brought us this lovely story of Mara and Evan. Their story is a slow burn with flirting lessons (where do I sign up?) with mental health rep and some of the best friends ever.
Mara has always had a little crush on Evan but she was the shy bookworm (aren’t we all at times) so he never truly noticed her. Then, she had to go through some trying times with her family and afterwards, she left town to try start fresh but some of those new experiences also shaped the person she is today. Now, Mara is back in Cedar Falls running her own little bookstore! Her best friend, Rowan, who is one of the funniest but loving and loyal friends, tries to get her to rejoin the dating world but she has no clue how as she deals with her anxiety. Lo and behold, the sweet, handsome, funny fireman, Evan, just happens to find himself agreeing to give her “flirting lessons”. At what point though do the lines start to blur between lessons and reality? Because Evan finds himself going above and beyond his “teaching” duties but how couldn’t he when he just can’t get the beautiful Mara out of his head? He knows she has been through a lot, as has he, and isn’t sure if he’s the right man for her. I have to say though, the patience this man has, self-control 😉, and his level of compassion is so heartwarming and makes me want to clone him!

The fact that this book ended, may be my last straw. I watched as the percentage I read climbed higher and felt so much sadness once it reached 100% and I was finished. I never wanted it to end. I wanted to stay in cedar falls, witnessing Mara and Evan fall madly and deeply in love.
This is incredible… Mara’s character development is absolutely perfect and Evan is the greenest of green flags!
The thought that went into perfecting this novella is clear, the anxiety and ptsd rep is genuine and heartbreaking and healing all at the same time.
What an incredible story from beginning to end… it’s currently 2am and I couldn’t go to sleep without finishing this book, that’s how much I enjoyed reading it!

I feel like I’m rating everything 3 ⭐️ right now but this was a mid tier novella. It felt rushed and a little random at times, like the two random men that show up for 1 scene, but I also understand it was meant to be a novella so.? The romance also went from both crushing with no acknowledgment to full on in like 3 scenes. So that felt like a lot. But I liked the mental health and spectrum reps and felt that they were very well done. I also really would have liked to know more about Evan’s PTSD. I do think this set up the series well as there are lots of side characters that have piqued my interest.

March 1, 2026This was an adorable and short novella with soo many great tropes and cute moments. Hannah did a great job of incorporating the two main characters’ background and trauma while also giving them a sweet love story (cracked door🌶️)

Cedar Falls is one of my favourite places now, that’s for sure.
The anxiety & PTSD rep in this book genuinely made me sob. It was so spot on. Hannah Till has a special talent for writing mental health representation. She does it so good.
Mara & Evan are so perfect, and the “practice dating” was such a fun change up from what I normally read in books. I adored everything about this book and I cannot wait to visit Cedar Falls again!

A Feel-Good Romance 💕
This was such a cute book and I loved that it wasn’t overly drama-filled. I really loved how caring and patient Evan was throughout the whole book. He was definitely my favorite part. Just a sweet, easy read that I really enjoyed!
