My name is Livia Ash. It's an alias. The secrets and lies don't end there.

As a teenager, I was forced into a dark life, my freedom and innocence ripped out from under me. To get out, I had to become like the very people I hated, people who had no problem spilling blood just to make a point.

It almost cost me my own life, but I did it. Battered and broken, but determined to start over, I ran. Right into the path of Cameron "Torch" Larter, nomad member of the Iron Serpents Motorcycle club. Overbearing, rude, and intimidating, he was everything I didn't want to deal with. But this rugged biker Adonis -- with his piercing eyes and sharp tongue -- also got under my skin.

Forgetting him proved to be just as hard as breaking free from a life of crime. Neither happened. And by the time our worlds collided a second time, old enemies and new threats meant that I couldn't act on my desires. But Torch wasn't a man who took no for an answer.

Could two very different breeds of outlaws on a warpath ever unite without ending up on a cold slab or prison cot?

This is our story.

TITLE: Torched
SERIES: (Iron Serpents MC #1)
AUTHOR: Shay Mara
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
PUBLICATION: January 28th 2015
MY RATING: 5 STARS

You know how sometimes you rate a book and then after a bit you sit back and think about that book and how much you really did love it, well that's what happened with this one, I initially rated this 4 stars and that rating kept on niggling me because I did love this, there wasn't anything I didn't love about it, so here I am changing my stinky 4 stars to a well deserved bright shiny 5 stars!!

This was soooooo good, not my usual biker book but it's a biker book where you LOVE Torch and LOVE Livia, these two are probably my favourite characters this year, Torch is a hot alpha sweet talking biker and Liv is a hard ass take no shit female..Loved these two..Such an easy book to get lost in, once I picked this up I was a goner..

What I enjoyed about this was the unique story line, it wasn't dark or gritty which is what I usually tend to lean towards when it comes to biker books but this book didn't need all that, it solely catered around the characters and that's where that strong connection that I got with these two..

I'd tried about FIVE BOOKS lastnight and this FINALLY was the only one that grabbed my attention right from the first page..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

He wasn't just some ruggedly handsome guy with a gorgeous harley. I realized he was an outlaw.

It's a wee bit confusing in the beginning but I'm hoping that will all come to light the further I get into the book..Little bits of tidbits are thrown to us about what she endured in the hands of the brothers, to where she landed in hospital from one hell of a beating, to running and leaving her old identity behind..

Battered and Broken, but determined to start over I ran

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Chloe Belman will be as good as dead

I'm a goner when it comes to a hot cocky alpha biker dude and Torch just ticks all the boxes..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

How about a ride?
On your bike?
Her eyes were wide as saucers.
Shit, she looked so fucking sexy, all giddy for something as minor as a spin on his Harley.
Well, I can think of something else I’d like you to ride, but we’ll leave that for later
Won’t happen, she spouted.
Famous last words, babe.

This bitch. She'd be the end of him one day. He just knew it.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I got something for you in my room
What exactly do you have for me in your room
A gift.
Yeah, I bet I know what kind of gifts you give she said, rolling her eyes.
That all you think about, babe? My cock? I feel fucking violated

So these two finally get their shit together and have a wild night, then the story jumps (eight years later) what the fuck, (sobs) what they shared was beautiful, then he gets a call from his club needing him and he writes her a note and leaves whilst she's sleeping..I wonder how many years go by before they reunite..

For eight miserable goddam years. I couldn't get you out of my twisted head - Torch

BRILLIANT...LOVED IT !!!

This is a lot different from other MC books out there...

Story of Torch and Liv...

TORCH

LIV

Liv has had a traumatic past, given to two men at the age of 15 by her father as a result of a gambling debt. She is kept by them for 3 years where she is repeatedly raped by them and 'learns' The criminal lifestyle. When she is 18 she escapes (don't want to go into details here as it might spoil the story )

She gets a new identity with the help of 2 friends Neil and Lex ( who I just loved ), and kind of goes on the run and this is when she first meets Torch..they spent one night together and then he leaves....

Story fast forwards 8 years where Liv has built a life of sorts for herself, all the time not staying in one place for too long. She finds something out that could harm Torch' s club so they meet up again....

Liv is one kickass female character who basically sacrifices herself to protect Torch, the club, his brothers...I'll admit I shed a few tears towards the end

Can't finish without mentioning Neil and Lex, they were brilliant together

"God.I'd do him in a fucking heartbeat"Lex mumbled

"I'm right here woman"Neil protested

"Oh shut up" She snapped back "You know I'd wait 'til you're dead"

"Well that's fucking comforting" he huffed

So if you like MC books and fancy something a bit different I would definitely try this.

Will be eagerly awaiting the next one!!!

Re-read 12th - 13th May 2018

This book is worth reading just for Chloe/Livia alone.
If like me you’re sick to death of TSTL females. You know the type I mean, the brainless idiots who spoil so many romance books. Some are so stupid it’s a wonder they can dress themselves on a morning. Well look no further because Liv is fabulous. She’s been through hell and come out the other side. She strong, loyal, intelligent (not even a suggestion of stupid) and beautiful.

And don’t get me started on Torch.

Original review.

This book starts when Chloe Belman is seventeen, having seen something she shouldn't have she's convinced they're going to kill her. And that's ok, really, her life is sh** it's so bad that death is almost welcome. But Chloe survives that night and it changes her, she's not only going to survive but she's going destroy them, them being Mitch and Vince Henslow.

How on earth did a seventeen year old girl find herself in this position.

Chloe's dad gambled her away to the Henslow brothers when she was just fifteen. And for five years, five unbelievably long years she was chained and abused.
Five years after she started her ordeal Chloe gets a chance at a new life and she becomes Livia. Battered and broken but free.
She meets Torch a nomad biker. While the attraction and spark is undoubtedly there it's the wrong time in both their life's for commitment and they go their separate ways. But fate and an author who knows we need romance brings them back together and their lives will never be the same again.

This is a book you can simply lose yourself in, it has so much going for it.
Firstly Livia is fantastic I really can't stress enough just how great she is. After reading so many books with stupid female leads making stupid decision after stupid decision she was a total breath of fresh air.
And Torch, a smoking hot biker with a heart of gold, what's not to like. Liv's friends Lexi and Neil are hilarious at times and I can't forget all the bikers. I love them all.

This somehow felt like more than one book, that could be because it covers about thirteen years or just because I totally lost myself in it.
While this gets a 5 from me because I absolutely loved it I can't in all honesty not mention that the only thing I didn't like was one person being in the first person and the other being in the third, I found this confusing at times.
While this book can be read as a standalone and that's what I thought it was I'm so excited that there's another book due out in the spring.

Did I love this book? Yes, totally enjoyable read. Written in a very real way. The feelings and thoughts were totally accessible...stunning debut, i don't know the author, just picked it up based on chatter from the Ammy biker books thread (thank you, JudyB and B.E. Love, what would we read without you?)

What I loved....the voices were more real than 90% of the books out there...seriously, sometimes it felt like I was just on a ride getting to know some real people who've been through a lot. Even when it got a bit unrealistic, it felt like it was really happening....I'm usually bored to death by captive/rescue scenes, but read these word for word!

Loved heroine and hero...she is incredibly strong and tough without losing her charm. Hero Torch is an inherently good man but also a jerk. It's what most romance writers creating a bad boy want to achieve...but often they just get the jerk. The MC club, even with the women as f dolls and the men as cheating pigs, was more appealing than almost any other MC club I've read about. Seeing it all through heroine's eyes, knowing her utterly lonely life, her desire for him and them made perfect sense...

I also realized that what I really enjoy most is when the hero and heroine get to truly know each other and love each other as people rather than just interpret sexual chemistry as love. The desire may spark the interest, but Torch falls deeply in love with Liv's character. That is sort of rare I think. I felt it in Nero and in Degradation and that really made those reads stand out.

I bought the HEA. Wonderful ending...brought tears to my eyes...often I stop reading at 95% because the sap gets stupid. Not here. I'm going to pretend that Torch was celibate during that last year and is going to be faithful. Not because I think that really, just because I want to believe it just this once...Can I? Please?

OMG the sex scene where they declare their LUV was the single raunchiest but hottest thing I've ever read. And I have read ALOT of awesome erotica. I can't remember if the book showed heroine showering first but I'm going to pretend she did.

What I didn't love:
While I loved how brilliant and self-educated heroine was, c'mon, a pool shark too? If you make her a tech savant, ninja fighter, don't make her good at everything else...that was one of only the few scenes that broke into my acceptance of this book as reality.

The earlier sex scenes bugged me....when the guy says "come for me" I instantly roll my eyes...and he said it a lot. Just a pet peeve.

I hated that heroine had sex for 8 years without an orgasm. That's just stupid. Use a vibrator during sex (honey, you have one you named and you can find and manipulate offshore bank accounts on the web but can't find a small clit vibrator to use during sex?). Or have the guy use his mouth, whatever...no woman as UTTERLY competent and erotic as heroine has lots of sex with hot guys but cannot find an orgasm with any man but one. Yes, I get it, hero is "speshul"...but it can still be the best sex either of them ever had because of their feelings. That was the biggest contrived thing that broke into my absorption in the book and jarred me back to "oh, this is silly romantic fiction".

Ok, I try to ignore it but it kills me how he uses and speaks to Nadia. Y'all know I'm a softie for the club whores, my heart just breaks for these poor misused, messed up girls. I really can't admire the men who are using them just because they can. And treating them like such garbage. Sure the women are consenting but so are the young streetwalkers who pick up a john. Just because another person is weak and damaged doesn't give you license to use and discard them and drive them into the ground. That reflects on you, Torch! So I had to stifle my hate of that to love the book. But I guess reading an MC book you give informed consent to this truly evil view of women...so i put it aside.

I initially refused to one click this book because it was a new author and I thought 4.99 was a little to high for a first time author. But then I kept seeing recommendations for the book on various biker romance threads so I decided to take the plunge. All I can say is it was well worth the money. This new author writes a full length novel in an excellent writing style that connected me to the characters and gave me a romance that I really enjoyed. I did not want this book to end.

Torch is a hero that you can’t help but like. He’s alpha, hot and he has a heart. Can he be violent? Yes, but he keeps that side of himself for the club. He’s been burned by a woman he loved and has vowed he won’t ever fall in love or commit to another woman. But then he meets Livia. His first meeting with her occurs when she’s sitting in a car parked beside his bike, on the run and severely beaten up. His first concern is helping her and he doesn’t take no for an answer. It’s not love at first sight but his actions towards Liv show what a good person he really is.

Livia is on the run. She is not familiar with motorcycle clubs but she is familiar with criminal life. Put up as collateral in a card game by her father at the age of 15, she’s turned over to two low life criminals who deal drugs. She’s used, raped, abused and finally runs after an altercation that leaves one of the criminals dead. Liv is a strong, kick ass heroine but no so OTT that you roll your eyes. She’s had to take care of herself her entire life so she’s independent and strong without being abrasive.

After a one night stand with Torch (after several months of knowing him) she runs again because she’s being tracked and knows she will end up dead. There’s an eight year separation before fate throws Torch and Liv back together. Each of them has thought of each other over the last eight years and neither could ever find someone who measured up. The romance begins and I just wanted to keep reading….

I loved all of the characters in the book. Buddha, the club president, was a hoot and Torch’s best friend and MC brother, Zed is another sweetheart alpha male. I’m really wanting Zed’s story. What a great epilogue! There were a few editing issues but nothing to take away from the story. The author’s writing style is excellent. No cheating, no cliff hanger and a HEA.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and yes I’ll glady pay 4.99 for it. I highly recommend this one for MC romance lovers.

When secretive Livia and outlaw biker Torch first meet, both are licking physical, and mental wounds from past life experiences neither are willing to go into. Though chemistry is apparent, both know nothing past the moment is feasible. Years pass, but neither can forget their brief brush with what could have been. Fate has other plans, and they are unexpectedly thrown in each other’s path once again.

This book is called Torched, but to me it’s all about Livia. It's so great to have a competent, sexy, heroine that doesn't waste page space with fake self-depreciation throughout a book. There is nothing wrong with confidence. It made me so happy to not read pages of a female's low self-esteem in an ill-fated attempt to get me to like her. Not to say this character is perfect, because she has been through some "thangs". Yet she is every inch a survivor, and nobody’s victim. Torch was a great hero too, but this party is all in Livia's honor.

If you are a fan of Lilli from the Signal Bend series Move the Sun (Signal Bend, #1) by Susan Fanetti , then definitely give this book a try. Just like that series, you get drawn into background characters, and welcome more books featuring this world. Loved It!!

Just not for me. Story didn't make sense to me and I don't feel like explaining to you why. I was worried about the lack of logic noted in other reviews. Suffice to say, should have listened to my gut on this one. Logic [or lack of] is a killer for me.

Also, there is an "insta" feel to everything that I just don't like. You lose a real opportunity to pull your audience in and build investment in the story when it all just smacks them in the face without reason.

There are MANY people who really liked this one, but I'm not one of them [I should create an "everyone loved but me" shelf, but this isn't quite true either .. so won't bother]. Safe to say, not for everyone - but what book is?

The actual writing, from an editing perspective, is fairly polished, so no issues with that. Just not my kind of story and characterizations.

The title is pretty simple, but appropriate too. I was intrigued enough to give it a go -- so not all bad.

Hope you enjoy this one. Not for me.

Happy Reading!

So glad you loaned this to me Jilly Boo! Thank you!!

I love that book! My first five stars of the year.
The love story is great and Torch and Liv are a great couple. He is THE alpha bad ass with a heart and she is THE greatest bad ass, sassy, sexy, clever h I ever read! I want to be her when I grow up ;)
The writing is engaging, the plot really great and fast paced, I couldn't stop reading. I love the club, Buddha and the rest of the Iron Serpents were fun, tough, and a great "family"; liv's friends were hilarious, and Liv... She was tough, unbelievably smart, self sufficient, she never quit and she was beautiful, inside and out, despite what she had to live through at the beginning. I loved that she went out of her way to take care of Torch and his MC instead of the other way around.
I noticed a couple editing issues but nothing that pulled me out of the story.
Torched is a great read from start to finish! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

You want action BINGO, you got it! Crave intense story lines surrounded in blood and guts? Oooh Shay Mara didn't forget about you either, completely nailed it! How about an MC storyline reflecting the culture...the old ladies, the hang arounds, prospects sweet-butts... ahhh hell I can do this all day, cause she gave it and then some. So I bet you're asking why four stars instead of five...right? Simple I felt the end was rushed, she could of gave more of intense reunion...I was expecting crazy Torch...the final showdown. Instead got HEA which is fine but wanted to end with more of a bang. Anyhoo, great book, very enjoyable read and damn sure an author to pay attention to. Yes I will be reading the sequel, and strongly recommend to all my MC reading buddies!

I really enjoyed this biker book, the heroine was smart and resourceful and the hero was tough but actually a nice guy who treated her well. The editing needed some help but that was the only issue I had with it.

Holy shit, I loved Torched. First 5 star read for the year for me. Liv and Torch were awesome main characters with amazing chemistry, and the plot was fast paced. I didn’t want to put this book down. There was no insta-love here. Although very attracted to each other, it was years before these two got in a serious relationship. I liked that they fought against the relationship not only for their own anti-commitment reasons, but because they were worried about the repercussions against the other person.

Buddha and the rest of the Iron Serpents were fun, tough, and gave me lots of options as to whose book I hope I get to read next. Liv’s friends, Lex and Neil, cracked me up. Lex especially.
“God, I’d do him in a fucking heartbeat,” Lex mumbled.

“I’m right here, woman,” Neil protested.

“Oh shut up,” she snapped back. “You know I’d wait ’til you’re dead.”

“Well that’s fucking comforting,” he huffed.

Liv was the best heroine I’ve read in awhile. Yeah, she did some shady things but circumstances required it. She was tough, unbelievably smart, self sufficient, and she never quit. I loved that even though Torch helped her out a couple of times, she didn’t require it nor did she sit on her ass waiting for her hero to save her. In fact, she went out of her way to take care of Torch and his MC instead of the other way around.
“You wanna know what I see, Livia? I see a stunning woman standing in front of me. You’re smart, you got guts, and you’re nothing like what I’m used to. You keep me on my toes and make me trip over them every time I just look at you. You’re so goddamned sexy that I can’t get my dick to go down, and judging by what I felt carrying you to bed last night, you can’t control that greedy pussy either.”

Torch was my idea of what a great badass biker book boyfriend should be. He was alpha, he was hot, he was loyal and even before he really knew her, he saw a woman in trouble and went out of his way to help her. I loved that! Her self sufficiency drove him crazy but instead of crushing her, he would eventually step back and try to figure out how to keep her safe and not lose her with his caveman tendencies. Oh, and not only was he hot, sexy, a dirty talker, he could be funny in bed too.
“Fuck me, baby,” I whispered. His eyes glinted with lust. “You sure?” “Are you seriously gonna make me beg?” A huge grin spread across his face. “Is that an option?”

There were a couple teeny tiny issues here and there. I would have loved to have known more about the long period of time they were separated and how Liv learned her “trade”. It was a little disconcerting when one minute she’s on the run and then it’s years later and she has some serious skills. If you pay attention, you know she incredibly smart and this makes it believable but I wanted to be shown that transition instead of just told about it. I also noticed a couple editing issues but nothing that pulled me out of the story.
When I read the last word of Torched, I had a huge smile on my face. I was in my little biker book happy place and it was a great place to be.

Freaken Loved this book! This was recommended to me by another GR member Elfina! Damn girl thank you!

This is definitely one of my fav MC books. Liv is badass. I seriously want to be her. She's strong and not just personality, that bitch will cut you. Watch yourself. Torch is a sexy bad ass biker who is not over the top nor did he have to have that asshole demeanor most MC heroes play. He was genuine and respectful when it came to Liv but he also wasn't a total whipped pussy either. I truly enjoyed reading their relationship grow and loving that both Torch and Liv had the ride or die attitude. Liv seriously took it to the next level!

Love the man, love the club and she lived up to that. Everything Liv did was for the greater good of the club and her love for Torch. I can't wait for book 2. All characters were awesome and I would read all of their stories.

This was a great start to a new series!!

The heroine in this book is such a strong character. From the beginning she doesn't let anything bring her down. She's tough and doesn't let all the negative events in her life affect her in a bad way.

I'm so glad that I was able to have this book because I was doing something really boring at the time, and this book saved my life.

Give this book a chance it's good!!!!!!

4.5 stars! I really really loved this book. It has one of my now favorite heroines ever, I mean this girl Liv is 100% bad ass. The stuff she's gone through and things she's done to survive are incredible. She meets Torch who's a bad ass biker when she's finally starting a new life and they form this tight connection. It's quite a while when they finally reconnect but I think that time was necessary. She's built this new life with this new skill that was a little hard for me to wrap my head around at first but I just went with it. She's amazing and brilliant and resilient and I swear tough as nails. Her and Torch are awesome together and I love his club. I loved that this MC book took a different path than most with the fact that Liv has a huge part in it. It was fun to see a woman getting so much respect from these tough guys. I have zero complaints on this book and I'm ready to jump into the next one.

FIVE STARS

I truly enjoyed Livia and Torch's story. This is a very well

written MC book and as I've read a lot of duds lately, I was

happy to finally be out of that funk.

Torch is definitely one SEXY biker! All alpha with the dark

and dangerous looks to match. He doesn't believe he'll ever

settle down but a second chance meeting with Livia 8 years

later begins to shake things up for him.

Livia tried her hardest never to see or contact Torch again

but when she stumbles on crucial information that could

effect the club she feels she has no choice.

I really like Livia. She's the true definition of a strong and

sexy female character. She takes no crap and is truly

intelligent. Definitely excited to read the next in this series!

This was a different MC read. For once, the heroine is total kick ass. I loved Torch, but Liv made this book awesome. At first, I had trouble with the 8 year time frame, but I realized that it made the book really work. All in all this was a fantastic read, and I will be reading more by this author!!!!
