4.5 stars!

This book was an exhilarating dive into psychological chaos! First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the cover—it’s stunning! If you know my reviews, you’ll already be aware that I absolutely judge books by their covers. This one, with its touch of intrigue and elegance, instantly caught my eye when I heard that Ms. Charlotte was releasing a new title. I knew I had to get it!

In "The Patients," Tess and Leah seek help from psychiatrist Dr. Jenna O'Hara, each burdened by their own issues—Leah with childhood trauma and Tess claiming burnout. As sessions unravel, they uncover a dangerous web of deception and hidden motives, trapping them in a labyrinth of revenge. They must confront the real threat in the room, facing the chilling reality of their situation.

The story unfolds through the lenses of Tess, Leah and concludes with an insightful chapter by D. Jenna O'Hara. I really enjoy multiple perspectives since they let you dig deeper into the characters and uncover their hidden thoughts and secrets, which may or may not be revealed. As I learned more about each character, I quickly found myself gravitating toward a favorite. But beware—like the book cover, these characters can be deceiving! Choose your favorites wisely, as we’re dealing with some true master manipulators here.

The vivid descriptions pulled me right into their world, making me feel as though I was alongside these women navigating the consequences of their therapy sessions. Everything seemed to be going well at first, but as events began to unravel, it became clear that things were not what they seemed. The suspense kicks in right from the start, leaving you questioning whom to trust. I kept trying to piece together the puzzle, but found myself coming up short! There weren’t many subtle clues, just a handful of intriguing details that might tie together later. Yet I certainly didn’t expect everything to connect the way it ultimately did! The main twist stayed hidden until the closing pages, leaving me utterly stunned as the truths emerged. Bravo! New trauma unlocked!

This read is ideal for anyone who relishes complex plots with unexpected turns, the twisted psyche of a vengeful character, and revenge meticulously plotted and delivered! The suspense was thick in the air, and the conclusion was nearly unhinged, leaving some characters in rather grim situations. It was clever how all the threads came together in the end, shedding light on the lengths people will go when they desire something badly! While a few parts felt a tad lengthy, overall, this was a therapy session I won’t forget anytime soon! Excuse me while I go and reconsider my therapist—just to be safe! Ha ha!

Thank you, Charlotte Stevenson, for reaching out and providing me with a gifted DRC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Patients

Two women
One deadly game
No way out.

This might be the fastest I’ve ever read a book. I just couldn’t put it down. The very definition of a page turner. The perfect example of ‘just one more chapter’ and five chapters later, you’re still going.

Unputdownable.

The Patients is a gripping, intelligent thriller that kept me hooked from the very first page. The suspense is masterfully paced, with a palpable tension that builds steadily, never letting up. Just when you think you know where the story is going, Stevenson pulls the rug out from under you.

Each character feels layered, believable, and deeply human. You can pretty much understand and sympathise with the actions of each of the characters… even the most unsavoury ones (actually, maybe there’s one who is slightly too unhinged to understand 😂)

Dark, atmospheric, and sharply written. If you haven’t read a Charlotte Stevenson book before this one will have you hooked.

The Patients is published March 9th. Pre order now! You won’t regret it.

An easy 5 stars for me!

The Patients is twisty, fast-paced, totally gripping, and has everyone at The Pulse slack jawed. Every time I thought I had something figured out, I was surprised by some new element I never saw coming.

When Tess and Leah are inadvertently booked for the same time slot at a high demand therapist, they are both pleased that accommodations are made for them to both see the doctor that morning. But as they get into their intense first sessions, something feels off. What unfolds is terrifying and thrilling and I was on the edge of my seat.

I appreciated that the first "twist" is revealed pretty quickly. Things felt obvious and I was glad that particular piece of the story wasn't drawn out. I also appreciated the flashbacks to Tess and Leah airing their dirty laundry. Tess in particular was a despicable character and I loved how her storyline played out.

I devoured the second half of The Patients in a single sitting. It was the perfect way to end a snowy day and it kept me up way too late. If you're looking for a fun, fresh, twisty thriller, look no further!

What a twisty book! It takes place mostly over a morning with views from the past. Leah is a women in need of help and Leah is a self obsessed woman. When they meet in the doctors office due to a scheduling error, they don’t think they have anything in common. Over the next few hours many secrets are revealed. The twists just keep coming right up until the end!

This was the second book of Charlotte Stevenson’s that I’ve read—the first being The Serial Killer’s Son—and I think this is now my new favourite of hers.

I have never really been interested in psychological thrillers but, if this is anything to go by, I think I need to read more of them from now on.

The storyline of The Patients revolves around the two main characters, Tess and Leah, who are total strangers that meet at the office of Dr Jenna O’Hara, Consultant Psychiatrist, for separate appointments but end up being dragged into a situation that neither one of them can understand.
It’s a mistake. A misunderstanding.

Leah is tormented by a childhood trauma that is resurfacing and affecting her mental stability. Tess, on the other hand, is a successful social media influencer, insisting that she's struggling under the limelight.
Two patients. Two sessions. One living nightmare.

In their individual sessions, Dr Jenna O’Hara tears through them; psychoanalysing them like a boss, until both women’s façades slip and they begin to unburden themselves. But their next session becomes a fight for their lives. Who will survive?

They say that writers should ‘write what they know’ as in, write from experience, and it is obvious that Charlotte has worked in psychiatry. I absolutely loved the characterisations that Charlotte created and the psychoanalysing of both women—Tess especially—by the doctor was absolutely brilliant.
For those that love twists, you will not be disappointed.

Once again, superb writing by Charlotte.

Oh 👏🏻 my 👏🏻 Lanta 👏🏻 What did I just read?! I was given an opportunity to read this book before its release date and I am so freaking glad I did! The Patients by Charlotte Stevenson is absolutely next level unhinged in the best freaking way possible!

Two totally different women, Leah and Tess, have decided they need therapy, but for two totally different reasons. Tess is a self absorbed influencer who only cares about herself and thinks sharing a therapy journey on Instagram will get her more attention from her followers. Leah is a married perimenopausal mother of two adult sons who is dealing with a past secret. They both find the best therapist in their town..or did they? They both show up for their appointments, set at the same time..and honestly that’s the least of their problems! What happens next is a whole new level of therapy! The women deal with their pasts, confront new developments, come to terms with what’s happening..that is being trapped in the drs office at pew pew point by who they thought was the therapist! Will they get out alive? Will karma come and cash out for past experiences?

You will never look at therapy the same after reading this book! I didn’t want it to end and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Make sure you read the acknowledgments!! Such a great read and definitely not my last read from the author! Five shining stars ⭐️

Tess and Leah couldn’t be more different, but they both arrive at their new therapist’s office at the exact same time, somehow booked into the same slot. After the awkward mix-up is sorted, they each have their session and are asked to wait in the reception area.
That’s when everything changes.
Because Dr O’Hara isn’t who she claims to be. And this appointment? It was never about therapy.
What follows is a chilling revelation: this was an elaborate setup, and only one of them will be leaving the office alive.

Well… dang.
I went into this completely blind, no blurb, no expectations, and I genuinely had no idea what was coming. The opening chapters ease you in with introductions to Tess and Leah, the booking error, and their individual sessions. I’ll admit, at first I wasn’t sure where it was heading. Was this just going to revolve around therapy appointments?
Absolutely not.
The moment the doctor stepped into the waiting room with a gun, I was hooked. The tension skyrocketed and didn’t let up for a second. From that point on, I couldn’t put it down. The twists came thick and fast, and several genuinely caught me off guard, which doesn’t happen often.
Sharp, claustrophobic, and packed with surprises, this was a wildly entertaining thriller.
My first book by this author, and definitely not my last.

THE PATIENTS by Charlotte Stevenson
🌟🌟🌟🌟

Big thanks to #ThrillerBookLoversThePulse and #BloodhoundBooks for putting this on my radar. My TBR may be bulging at the seams, but what's one more?

"The Patients" is the kind of psychological thriller that makes you question all those glowing online reviews you’ve trusted before. I expected a tense ride, but Stevenson delivered something sharper, sneakier, and way more addictive than I was prepared for.

Leah and Tess visit Dr. Jenna O’Hara, hoping for help with fairly small, manageable problems. Instead, they’ve stepped into something they never could have imagined. The whole setup is taut and creative. Therapy-centered thrillers can be hit or miss, but this one nails it. The pacing stays steady, and the characters keep things deliciously edgy.

I’d rather keep my crazy thoughts inside my head than ever risk a session on Dr. Jenna’s couch. This is hands-down one of the most clever therapy-centered thrillers I’ve encountered.

This book had it all. It had it all I happen to love about books like this one.
BOOK CRAZIES! Give me book crazies! Give me unhinged! Give me surprise unhinged! Give me sneaky unhinged!
As soon as I read the blurb, I was fairly certain we would be a perfect match, me and this book. And I wasn’t wrong.
A psychopath meets a sociopath, meets another psychopath, meets a gullible subject, meets an unsuspecting and naive pawn, meets another crazy person. Sounds good? Yep.
Nothing is what it seems to be, and no one is who they pretend to be.
Oh, and the horrible secrets? Are not so horrible after all, you know. The more of those you keep, the more you start believing those make you a bad person. When, in fact, those just make you human. Hating someone for decades and not forgiving, when no one has asked for any kind of forgiveness? Totally normal, I’d say. Wanting some petty revenge? Even more normal. Even more human. But a revenge story that goes horribly wrong, and then takes even more wrong turns? Yesss, bring it on! This book has it all.

SUMMARY
Tess and Leah arrive at their appointment to find they have both been booked for the same time with psychiatrist Dr. Jenna Hale. With the receptionist not showing up for work and having booked both women at the same time, Dr.Hale arranges for Leah to take the appointment and Tess to wait for the next appointment. When both appointments are finished, they end up in the reception area together again. This is when things turn bizarre. Why are they both back in the same room with different appointment times?

CHARACTERS
There was not one character I liked. I can normally overlook unlikable characters but these were extremely bad.

WRITING STYLE
This book was well written and easy to read but…. the story was so unrealistic that I just couldn’t find anything that I could hold onto in order to rate it higher.

I wanted to like this book so bad because the author is a great writer. I would definitely try another book from this author but did not like the story itself.

Once in a while a book appears and knocks you off kilter with, well basically the story

This is that!

Never again will I go to a Drs appt and not wonder…..( about what you will find out when read it ) but then when you feel like this you know the book has done it’s job

It’s fresh yet gooily dark and one of those you’re eyebrows are raised throughout at the sheer audacity of some of the characters

And what a female cast it is, I will focus on one, Tess, I’ve met some narcissists and psychopaths between pages but never one like this lady, sublimely indifferent to her ways and more than happy to live with them she is a character not to be missed, although saying that she has no intention of anyone missing her

It’s a fizzer of a book, like a glass of pop that you think you have poured right but haven’t and it keeps going and just when you think it cant fizz anymore it does

Compelling, dramatic and unique

HOLY COW! This novel is one delicious ride. My first novel by Stevenson, and now I am looking for her back-list.

Two strangers share a psychiatrist. Dr. Jenna O’Hara. Their lives are about to be changed in WAYS they never thought possible.

One needs help from a past trauma and another is a narcissistic social media influencer whose lifestyle she manages has its own problems.

I WILL NOT give away anything because the twists are many and my brain was fried in a good way by all the twists. I would LOVE to see this as a movie. Atmospheric, fun and terrifying all wrapped up in this plot and I am here for IT ALL! This plot is CLEVER & DIABOLICAL in a good way. Whenever I thought I figured out the TWISTS, I was so WRONG, even until the last sentence.

Thank you to the author for sharing your WICKED Thriller with Thriller Book Lovers THE PULSE!

I read this in one sitting as it was so gripping that I couldn’t put it down. Neither Tess nor Leah are particularly endearing characters. They have little in common when they find themselves both awaiting appointments with a psychiatrist, Dr O’Hara. Both, however, are slightly surprised by the doctor’s behaviour. Tess is obviously a narcissist, who ultimately only cares about herself and who uses and abuses other people in order to further her own interests. Leah, on the other hand, has redeeming qualities, but has allowed herself to be eaten up with bitterness about an event from her teenage years. How can these two very different women be connected and what is the doctor’s motivation? These questions certainly kept me enthralled, and horrified, right until the very last page. Original and haunting.

A book that kept me guessing!!
When 2 women turn up to see a therapist at the same time, the therapist having been double booked, it seems like a simple mistake made by a ditzy receptionist. Or is it? When they work out who will be seen first, both women go into the room and have completely different experiences. One tells her deepest, darkest secrets while the other is called out by the therapist for faking her feelings.
What follows is a terrifying ordeal for both women, will they both leave the doctors office alive? Or will a horrifying situation become even worse?
The writing of this book was fantastic, and I was really drawn into the story within the first couple of pages. The characters weren’t necessarily lovable, but I did need to know what their secrets were. I didn’t quite expect the twists that came throughout the novel, but they definitely kept my attention!!

Tess and Leah, two very different individuals, and unknown to each other, are on a collision course as The Patients opens up. Both have an appointment with renowned psychiatrist Dr. Jenna Hale when the story opens up and have been accidentally scheduled for the same time slot. Claiming a scheduling mishap, they’re each given a private therapy session. But things slowly take a dark turn.

Who is Dr. Jenna Hale and what does she want from Tess and Leah? It soon becomes clear that there is more going on here then a childhood trauma or burnout, both reasons the women had for scheduling therapy sessions in the first place. So, who will make it out alive?

This book is beyond twisty and just when you think you’ve figured it out you’re hit with something new and crazy.

The Therapy Of Terror! "The Patients" is a brilliant clinical descent into the fractured human psyche where phycopathy and narcissism meet a blood-chilling quest for revenge.
As Tess and Leah enter Dr. O’Hara’s office, Stevenson expertly exposes the rot beneath the surface,  the hollow chill of narcissism, the suffocating weight of guilt, and the frantic pulse of paranoia.
This isn't just a therapy session; it’s a high-stakes battleground where the ultimate goal is revenge.
I couldn't help but root for Tess, a beautiful but flawed woman trying to outrun her enemies.
With an incredible twist, this claustrophobic thriller asks the haunting question: how much of ourselves must we sacrifice to settle the score?
My thanks to Bloodhound Books for the ARC. This is my own opinion.

This one was such a dark, twisty psychological ride.

This one follows two women, one haunted by childhood trauma and another trying to keep her perfectly curated life together, whose paths cross in a way they would NEVER expect. What starts as something simple quickly spirals into a tangled web of secrets, manipulation, and revenge.

This was such a tense and dark psychological thriller that really gets into the messy parts of the human mind. It’s character driven and leans heavily into trauma and hidden motives, which made it feel more unsettling. This is definitely one you won’t want to miss!

When you read as many thrillers as I do, you inevitably come across book with very similar plots from time to time. However, this is the first time I have ever read anything quite like this!

You might well expect people seeing a psychiatrist to have issues, but that's not even the half of their problems in this book.

It certainly held my attention and it didn't take me long to finish the book, as I was so keen to see how things ended up.

I realised later that I have also read and enjoyed The Family Next Door by Charlotte Stevenson, so definitely an author to recommend.

From the beginning- I found myself trying to solve the mystery as to why these patients were meeting in this office...I immediately had empathy for one and disgust for the other. The plot line grew and although a little wordy at times, the story line kept me turning the pages faster and faster. I did not see the ending turning out the way it did. I love when a book can twist and turn and has me hanging on for the thrill of the ride. I thought the psychiatrist's office was a unique setting. The character descriptions and the setting were developed and allowed me to see the action in my head like a movie. My first by this author but this has left me wanting more! great read!

This book left me staring at the page thinking, what the hell did I just read? Every time I thought I had a handle on the story, it veered hard in another direction. None of the characters are particularly likable, yet the author somehow makes you invested enough to keep turning pages just to see how it all ends. The plot is chaotic in a deliberate way, unsettling but compelling, and while not every moment is comfortable, most of the loose ends are ultimately tied up. It’s the kind of book that frustrates you, intrigues you, and sticks in your head long after you’re done.

This is the first book that I have had the pleasure of reading by Charlotte Stevenson and it was absolutely fantastic.
It was a fascinating story of how so many lives can be affected and changed forever by an incident that happened so long ago.
Tess & Leah both go seeking the help they think they need for very different reasons from the same Psychiatrist only for their lives to be completely undone.
This was a fabulous read and I’ll certainly be on the lookout for more books by this author.
Huge thanks also go to Bloodhound Books for sending me a copy of this book before its release date.

Two women from very different walks of life are attending therapy with the infamous Dr O’Hara. Ready to bare their darkest secrets, well almost, and get the help they need however nothing could prepare them for what was coming. They should feel safe and supported but something is off and not everyone will make it out alive.

This had me gripped from the start, the tension is palpable and it grows throughout the story. When you think you have it sussed you’re hit by another twist. The characters are relatable, some more than others, and although some of their actions seem unhinged you can understand the decisions they make. The pacing is perfect and keeps the story flowing so much so I read it over two sittings. The setting is perfect for a psychological thriller, a place where you should be safe suddenly becomes your worst nightmare.

If you enjoy a dark, twisty thriller then I highly recommend this one, you will not be disappointed.

Holy smokes - what did I just read?!

Two patients, Tess and Leah arrive for their psychiatrist appointments. Thinking they are going in there for one thing, they don't expect what actually happens to them.

And that's all I'm going to tell you because really, the less you know, the better. If you like darker thrillers that are hard to put down, this one is your jam.

So, funny story...I started The Patients in the early evening, thinking I'll read a chapter just to see what the book was like. Before I knew it, it was late and I had devoured the entire book in one sitting! That's an indication of how good this book is. Be sure to get yourself a copy, because it will be a HIT and you cannot miss out.

Well, that was completely unhinged! Seriously. As a therapist myself I find the bad therapist trope to be hit or miss but this one was a hit for me! I’ve read a few of this author’s books and they’re always so twisty and unexpected! This one had a lot of surprises waiting around every corner right up to the very end. It was a really quick read with multiple POV keeping things moving quickly! I was dying to get to the next chapter to find out what the characters were all hiding and how they were all connected. Overall this was a solidly entertaining thriller experience!

This book was actually insane, in a psychological thriller type of way. We follow “Dr. Jenna” as she begins seeing new therapy clients, but it quickly becomes clear that there are ulterior motives behind the sessions.

I can’t lie, through a good portion of the book, I was confused about why everything was happening and how it all connected. I kept thinking, what does this have to do with anything? 😂 But that last 20–25%? It brought everything together in such a wild way.

If you can hang in there for the buildup, the payoff makes it worth it. A mind-bending read overall.

I kept asking myself as I read, what the hell am I reading?
Initially I felt the most sympathy for Leah because I could identify with some of her story.
I didn’t like Tess because she was a user and detestable.
Many of my what moments were answered as the story progressed and a couple of other characters were diabolical.
It was a spine tingling read and a testament to what comes around goes around.

Edge of your seat suspenseful

Two patients are booked simultaneously at a clinic. Is it just an accident or was it done on purpose?

This thriller had me reading into the late hours of the night. I was left with more questions after every chapter and had to keep reading. The twists kept coming and the ending left me satisfied.

This book was absolutely unhinged in the best way possible and I mean that as the highest compliment.

The Patients by Charlotte Stevenson pulled me in immediately with the therapy setting and the tension between Tess, Leah, and Dr. Jenna O’Hara. What starts as two women simply seeking help quickly turns into something so much darker. Every session felt like a psychological chess match where you’re constantly trying to figure out who’s telling the truth and who’s completely manipulating the situation.

I love thrillers that make you question every single character, and this one absolutely delivered. Just when I thought I had a grip on what was happening, the story twisted again.

The pacing was perfect, the tension kept building with every chapter, and by the end everything spiraled into chaos in the most satisfying way. It felt like watching a psychological game slowly explode.

If you enjoy thrillers with unreliable characters, revenge, mind games, and morally gray decisions, this one is definitely worth picking up.

This was wild, unsettling, and honestly a little chaotic in the best possible way. Exactly the kind of thriller I love. 🖤📚
