I want to make this review as precise and surgical as possible: Two facets of this novel I’ve liked a lot, and another two I thought the author ought to change.
First, I believed that this novel was indeed set in ancient Mesopotamia; in the whole 200+ pages, there was no instance that made me think I was outside the historical time frame that the author wanted us to be reading about. The 2nd thing I thoroughly enjoyed was how the author was able to enter the labyrinth of the human mind and extract the plethora of what a human is in all that he or she could offer.
Second, I thought that the author should have satisfied herself with compressing the whole tale in one novel. Since I am not a big fan of the "novel series" myself, I would have preferred it if I had read the end of this tale in this novel itself. In addition, presenting the main hero, King Enlal, as an infallible character and an ever-victorious warrior trespassed the boundaries of logic. In fiction or non-fiction novels, I would prefer to read about human characters that can be victorious sometimes and would be subjected to defeats at other times, either in military battles or in anything that life throws at them.
All in all, the accurate historical taste and smell of Ancient Mesopotamia inside that novel pushed me to be biased towards liking this novel while overlooking the negative aspects.
This book has been my favourite to read for almost 8 years now I’ve read it multiple times already, such a great plot ,easy to relate to the character's thoughts and feelings , felt like I was literally in the book, and while there was some romance there was plenty of action and adventure too, and also to mention the amazing characters drawings (my heart can’t take it), such a talented author always my fav 10/10.
An extremely powerful story, Great book, I haven't read a book like this in a long time, the story takes the reader to another world, a rich world full of information and history. Parts of this experience may have been told before, but never with such freshness, intensity and power.
