Farrah comes back to her home town to nurse her wounds. Her short lived dream of fun life in NY is over. She is back alone, nobody to rely upon, but with an unexpected luck she finds herself staying in Aanon's homestead. Given that both of them have their problems and hide some secrets, their co-existence is not going to be smooth and even.
I really like the Alaskan set up. The premise of the story was good, too. But the way the plot unfolded and the way the characters opened up - hmm... I was disappointed.
second half of the book was too obvious and way too cheesy to my liking. Aanon turned out to be a weak link. i mean, a man can't sort out his past, what hope does he have for a complicated relationship in the future? Farrah was too bland and did not leave any striking impression.
Ok...This book did frustrate me at times. I tired of hearing and feeling all of the reasons this couple could not be together. Still though, upon completion I was quite pleased. A very genuine heartfelt romantic read.

2 to 2.5 Stars. The first part of the book was okay. The last third or so was heavy on the cheese factor. I also didn't like the heroine. Things were a bit to insta-love for me. Just not that good.
I've read a lot by Joyce, and this was different from what she usually put out there.
I think some of the reasons this didn't hit home with me are cultural differences.
Lawyers are free if you can't afford one (and you can still choose which one to use), and the childcare payment amount/rate is decided by the state. If you don't have a place to live the state will provide that for you, and help you find a job. If you don't have any money, again - the state will give you a certain amount per month to cover your expenses. Healthcare is free, and you will get maternity leave with pay for at least a year (including the fathers' paternity leave). This is why we pay taxes...
If by some disaster there were a pregnant woman in my country, stranded with no home, no money and no nothing, the media would go into a frenzy, heads would roll in the ruling government, and laws would be made to avoid such a horrible thing to happen ever again.
I think every Scandinavian will understand where I'm coming from with this, and why the reaction to ... these cultural differences.
For a change this book isn’t about shifters.. it’s about a girl moving away from her home town to make a better life for her self when she though she had everything a loving boyfriend a great job and not living in Alaska... fennel world come crashing down when she found out she actually been a mistress for 4 long years! The though she know everything about the man she been with 4 years turns out she really didn’t have a clue who he is.. heartbreak keeps her from telling miles about the baby and in a panic decision she returns home to Alaska... the last person she though would still be in her home town was aanon. All through school he said he wanted to get away from the small town. Bumping into her high school crush brought back all the memories she rather forget.. when Arron offers her a place to stay she wasn’t expecting her life to change so much
I read this because I was feeling awful, and T.S. Joyce is one of those authors who never fails to make me feel better. Always a perfect pick me up in her books. Despite all the tags on this one, it is not a paranormal romance. I repeat, not a paranormal romance. I was equally surprised that T.S. Joyce had a book without shifters in it, but this is very much a contemporary romance. It's sweet and slightly angsty and has a perfect HEA.
Wow. I am used to reading T. S. Joyce shifter romances so I just knew this was another one. That’s what happens when you love an author so much you just one click books they’ve written without reading the blurb! This was such a sweet story with a super be-atch for the antagonist. I really disliked Erin. And I felt so sorry for Farrah and Aanon. Not a shifter in sight but the inevitable trailerhome, oh yes. Great book with a very happy ending.
Farrah and Aanon knew each other from highschool so there's a bit of that crush from afar and first infatuation thing going on, but only on Farrah's part. Aanon doesn't even recognize her! If you were picked on as a kid in school, you will enjoy this book. I was actually expecting bear shifters because of the other books I've read by this author, but there's nothing paranormal here and frankly I didn't miss it. There isn't even much naughtiness either, which also wasn't missed. It was a romantic tale of two kind people trapped in tenuous positions by exes who had done them wrong. This was a story with more depth than anything else I've read by this author. There's unrequited love, jealousy, the threat of going hungry over a long Alaskan winter, heartwarming locals, and evil exes. The ending was wonderful too. Brought a tear and a sigh to me! Oh yeah, and I LOVE the cover!
This was not what I expected from T.S. Joyce. The love the characters shared grew fast over the months they lived together but it felt real. The conflicts they each faced in their lives made the journey unnecessarily tough but the end everything did work out better. Still not sure why that cow just did not like her though.
Great insight into conditions in Alaska. But OTT characters and their stories took off a star. She's been hurt by her long term lover. The taciturn H is being blackmailed by his child's mother. I liked the resilient h, drawn back to her home town knowing she's not welcome. The H admires the h, then falls in love. It's OTT but I liked it.
I got caught up in the characters. They were well developed. Would have given 5 stars if the HEA had come sooner. There was a little too much angst for me but that is a personal preference.
Farrah Fennel was from the small town of Cooper Landing, Alaska. She left home years ago and now she was back after leaving New York behind her. She was hiding a secret, she ran into her high school crush, Aanon Falk while she stopped at a diner to get something to eat. He offered her a ride to her destination after several truckers refused her.
Things got dicey, she landed a job bartending and met some of Aanon's friends. She liked Ben, but there was a blonde woman that wanted to kill her if she got to close to Aanon. When she couldn't find somewhere to sleep, Aanon asked her to stay at him on his homestead. She would look after his cattle while he was away on business. She agreed.
Aanon Falk's life was complicated, but when Farrah Fennel blew back into town, he was tempted to let his guard down. If she ever found out what happened to turn his life upside down, she would leave his homestead and never look back. He was intrigued by the mother to be, he didn't remember her from their high school years. When he learned who she was, to say he was surprised would have been an understatement.
Farrah finally told him why she came home and he shared with her that he was seeing someone, which was a bit more complicated that he laid on. But they both couldn't deny the attraction they felt towards each other. They tried to stay in the friend zone but destiny had other plans for them.
She made peace with her mother with whom she had a strained relationship with. When it came to her baby, she was unsure of what to do cause she didn't want to turn out like her mother. After spending so much time getting to know Aanon, she decided to keep the baby. Then things got more complicated when his ex tried running both their lives.
Loved how no matter how far apart Aanon and Farrah were, their love kept growing stronger each passing day. Even when they were far awar from one another, their love never wavered. In the end they got their HEA with their little ones. They were each other's HOME.
SHELTER ME HOME is a stand-alone contemporary romance novel by T. S. Joyce. It was mind-blowing, passionate and oh so irresistible. T. S. Joyce never sees to amaze me with her talent. 5 Golden Stars!
Another fantastic book by T. S. Joyce. This one is a little different because there are no shifters in this story. Farrah has come with a secret. She has no job or place to live lined up. Aanon’s life is complicated enough without picking up a stray woman at a rest stop. Aanon doesn’t recognize Farrah. Truth is they went to school together. They just didn’t run in the same circles. Aanon and Farrah has more in common than they know at first. The more time they spend together and get to know each other the more they want each other. There are forces outside of their relationship/friendship that they have to contend with. Aanon’s ex isn’t ready to let go of her hold on him. This story was a wonderful read. It was moving and I felt for Farrah and Aanon so much. Both of them are going through so much during the book. They book learn what they are willing to do for those they love. How far they are willing to let others push and manipulate them. Fantastic job T.S. Joyce.
This was a good book, just not what I'm used to from this author. If you were expecting an even mix of humor and and romance with a lot of feel-good vibes and a little drama this wasn't exactly that. This is not a paranormal romance to be clear, I think it was somehow categorized as that but it is not. If you're familiar with the paranormal romance series' from this author this is not all that similar. It was definitely still good but was there was a lot more drama and angst than we usually see and there wasn't as much humor or interaction between the H and h--for reasons that are made clear in the story and are due to circumstances somewhat out of their control. If you've tried books from this author before and were looking for something a with a little more drama and a little less humor and shifter stuff you'll probably really like this book.
Pregnant, emotionally compromised Farrah Fennel never thought she’d go back to her hometown in Alaska but she needs to talk to her mom face to face. Hitching a ride, Farrah’s dropped two hours out of town, near a diner and she sees, Annon Falk one of the popular kids she knew in high school but he doesn’t recognize her, she wasn’t popular or well-liked. Partial luck is on her side, Farrah finds a job at a bar and she’s able to make arrangements with Annon for basic shelter.
One of the town women hated Farrah then and is friends with Annon’s ex, she’s doesn’t believe Farrah and Annon’s relationship is only business and makes it her mission to make them both as miserable as possible, no matter who gets hurt in the process! Meanwhile, Farrah’s uncertain what exactly her powerful ex will do now that he knows she’s pregnant. Rating: 4.5stars
Another story by T.S Joyce that had me spell bound, not a shifter story but nevertheless a great love story, set in Alaska.
Farrah Fennel has lived in the small town of Cooper Landing before, and knows what will happen, well she hopes, but meeting her high school crush Aanon Falk is not one of them, and now she wonders if she made the right choice. Aanon's life is not easy, but his offer for the to live in a rustic cattleman's cabin on his homestead is helping her a lot. As long as she can prove she can help him. Things do stand in their way, life is not simple for either of them and it does tend to make it harder for both. Will they overcome what life has thrown at them will they be happy, read the book its a great story.
I really loved this story. So different and unique from her other writings. She needs to write more. I was enthralled within the first chapter of the book. Farrah returning home and nobody that recognizes her. She had a pretty crappy childhood and teenage years. She was the Dweeb in school and was horribly picked on. But her HS crush offers up his cattleman's cabin without recognizing her. This was the beginning of there story.
Erin and Miles what a piece of work.
Anyways this is a story of love picked wrong, then right, and then sacrifice. It was beautiful and a top fav from this author!
Returning to a home that didn't have good memories, Farrah brings a secret of her own with her. When that mixes with Aanon's past, it's a recipe for trouble. The cover and title don't do much to describe the heartwarming romance that grows between them. This was an incredible story about family and finding home where you least expect. Un poco spice (one scene) but the plot itself was so good I didn't mind.
One sentence summary: Is that a chainsaw or are you just happy to see me?
To say this book was a pleasant surprise is a bit of an understatement. I had attempted to read this several years ago and couldn’t get into it. But as the only book I haven’t read by T. S. Joyce, besides her newest books, I had to give it another try. I’m really glad I did because this story was a great one. Though I am not usually a fan of a pregnancy trope, this one wasn’t overbearing. Though the FMC was pregnant you almost forgot about it as the story unfolded. Yes, it was brought to light again and was something that was in the back of your mind while reading it didn’t overwhelm the story. This may be put on my to be read again pile.
I have read almost all of TS Joyce’s book, predominantly paranormal romance, and so was excited but unsure of what to expect with this contemporary romance.
I was blown away, an amazing, exciting, heartwarming read. The characters were so gritty and real, both the good guys and bad. The setting was so picture clear in my mind from the wonderful descriptions and I enjoyed everything about this book from beginning to end.
The hero irritated me. He was a wuss. How could he ever get with that nasty girl in the first place. Why didn't he use protection? Also how did he let her keep threatening him with taking his son away? Didn't he save the voicemails and texts with the threats? If he took her to court, couldnt he bring in all of the guys that she dated? People in town knew she was a nasty person. He had plenty of character witnesses. Wouldn't the court ask the son who he wanted to live with and how she treated him? I felt he needed to grow a pair and the heroin deserved better.
