Secrets, lies, devastating loss, and old wounds ... insurmountable odds? Or, can love conquer all? Long Gone Cat is Katherine L. Evans’ new contemporary romance, a thrilling tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages as you discover what fate has in store for star-crossed lovers, Cat and Alec.

Long Gone Cat is a gripping tale of what happens when love collides with life. You will find yourself cheering for Cat, a very normal woman, despite a tragic past, with a secret talent that not only saves her life, but thrusts her into the limelight...a place she is learning to love.

Alec is a struggling theater actor looking for his big break and trying to find the woman he lost and recover his life after years of self-doubt and alcoholism. Alec believes he and Cat will find their happily-ever-after if she can find forgiveness and let go of the past.

Long Gone Cat is a story of two not-so-ordinary people who share an extraordinary friendship.

It is a story of grief, loss, and the flawed ways we cope in the midst of tragic circumstances.

It is a story of a woman who runs from her pain and a man who dances with his demons at the bottom of a bottle.

It is a story of how we can fail at something ten thousand times, only to finally get it right on attempt number ten thousand and one.

It is a story of the broken road to finding strength from within and learning to create your own happiness.

But at its core, "Long Gone Cat" is a story of forgiveness and unconditional love.

Rollercoaster of emotion

Wow! What a life that Cat had dumped on her in Seattle! To start over in a city where she knew nobody, only to bump into someone who would become her Bff, then into the love of her life. Then the other shoe drops and she is alone again! I smiled, I cried, I was mad! I highly recommend this book!

"Cat! Hey, Cat!" Richie hollered across the theater lobby. "Come on back, he's almost finished."

Cat scurried as fast as she could in her heels and followed Richie down a long hallway which emptied into a loud room, jam-packed with cast, crew, and members of the press.

Richie snagged her by the elbow as he wove her through the mass of bodies. Peeking around various heads and shoulders, she spotted Alec, looking oh, so swoon-worthy in a black suit with no tie and the top few buttons of his white dress shirt undone. He was talking enthusiastically with several people, shaking hands, and getting hugged and kissed by random women.
The entire scene buzzed with excitement, but Cat couldn't help feeling a bit out of place.

Richie released her elbow when she was just a few steps away from Alec and gave him a pat on the shoulder and a few words in his ear, which caused Alec to whip his head around to face her with lit-up eyes.

"Hey!" He leaped toward Cat, wrapped her up in a hug, and lifted her off the ground for a second.
"Hi! Oh my god, you were amazing!" she gushed. "The whole play was fantastic. I was bawling like a baby at the end. But in a good way."

"Good! I mean, not good that you were crying, good that you, y’know, liked it." He chuckled sheepishly, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I think it went really well."

"Oh it did! It definitely did. Everyone was cheering and crying and laughing. It was fantastic." She punched his shoulder. "Told you so."

"Yeah, you sure did." Alec let out a contented sigh and flashed his million-dollar smile at her. "Wow, Cat. I can't even tell you how glad I am that you're here."

He paused briefly, and Cat noticed his gaze dart to her feet and draw slowly back up to her face. She figured this was when the teasing would commence, but she was somewhat shocked when Alec took hold of her wrist, pulled her flush against his chest, and placed both hands on the small of her back, his lips right next to her ear.

"You look spectacular," he whispered, and then placed a tiny peck right below her earlobe, leaving Cat with her eyelashes fluttering slightly and thinking her knees might give out. He could be such a damn flirt sometimes; he had to know what he was doing to her, and was probably doing it just to get a rise out of her.

So Cat just brushed it off, and Alec released her quickly enough that she managed to keep standing upright. She shook her head slightly and gave a polite little laugh.

"Thank you. I feel like a little girl who raided her mom's closet wearing this silly thing."

"No, it's awesome." He grinned. "You should wear stuff like that more often. Although I'm worried that you look a little too good. I might have to pull out the fake boyfriend act again to keep the sleaze-balls at this party off of you."

Cat laughed as she put an arm around his waist and rested her head on his shoulder. "You're so silly. You can be my fake boyfriend anytime.”

In her debut novel, author Katherine Evans tells the story of two broken characters in Long Gone Cat.

At the center is Cat, a woman who is trying to make a new life for herself after losing her family. She and Alec strike up a friendship, with his budding theater career serving as a backdrop. They grow closer together until tragedy rocks Alec’s world, causing a huge rift between the two.

Three years later, Cat is finally on firm ground, enjoying her life. When Alec re-emerges into her life, he is a much different person. The time spent apart has not been easy on him. He’s looking for another chance, but the feelings they once had may be long gone.

As much as I wanted to love the story, I just couldn’t seem to get any traction with the characters. The writing was good, the storyline showed promise, but something just didn’t feel right about the final package. For the first part of the story, it seemed that Alec and Cat were simply stuck in the friend zone, but adding the passion didn’t make them a compelling couple.

While there was a certain level of angst conveyed by the characters, it didn’t quite reach the expectation that was generated by the prologue. Just those few paragraphs piqued my interest because it was clear that this was going to be a story about love and loss. Unfortunately, the kind of heartbreak in the friends-to-lovers storyline just wasn’t what I was looking for as a reader.

Full disclosure I know the author from a class we took together a few years ago, and I promised to review on here (am I not supposed to say that?? lol), but I don't feel biased. Got it last month on amazon for free, but I would of paid for it! Sort of a crazy story, but so different. I read the whole thing in like 2 days. Romance novels are totally my thing and this is definitely like a tame (not so steamy) romance novel, but it's different. Hard to exlpain without giving stuff away. The guy is not one of the typical hero types, he's really normal (even though he's NOT (semi spoiler)) and I liked him. Their relationship reminds me of one I had a few years ago, a big old mess and totally sad at times, but sweet too. The stuff about the girl and her mom had me in tears everytime w/o fail. And the ending kinda killed me (in a good way). Anyway. Def. recommend.

This book ends with a happily ever after feeling, but it does so in its own unique, special way. Both characters eventually come out on top, but they take a long road to get there, and learn a lot along the way. I like that the female lead is strong, determined, and a little bit stubborn (sometimes to her own detriment). Overall a fun, thought-provoking read that will make you rethink your preconceived notions about love and forgiveness.

Sweet debut novel. I read for pleasure and to immerse myself into another world. I really like that both characters made it out on top and back to each other. Despite the fact that Cat is victimized, I like how she never plays the victim. This novel was an easy and quick read. Great vacation novel!

The story line was intriguing and drew me to read it. The relationships at times changed on a dime causing me a love-hate relationship with the main character, Alec. I do appreciate the strong female character, Cat. I loved the ending.

I loved this book!!! I also hated it ! Seriously. It wraps you up and pulls you in. You just have to hang in on and go with the characters no matter where it goes. This makes me anticipate Evans next book release even more. She is on the up and coming list to watch out for.

The story of Cat and Alec began as friendship, for her at least while he soon realized that he is in love with her. But it was only a matter of time before she started to feel the same way. Their love was something special and he was her lifeline after she lost her family. But just when their life together was on track tragedy struck and their lives changed. Alec hit rock bottom and she was left homeless. But this was only the start of their journey as star crossed lovers - if you are meant to be together you will end up together no matter all the heartache in between. This is a very emotional story of love, heartbreak, forgiveness and refound love.

I have found, that I have fallen in love with each book I have read written by Katherine. This one is no different. Cat has lost everybody and ran to NY to start her life new. Alec is a struggling actor taking parts to pay his dues and make it big as an actor. Who knew two strangers bumping literally into each other, an act of kindness, would lead to one heck of a whirlwind life.
When faced with love, loss, careers, time, betrayal, and separation I can’t figure out how they kept standing. I laughed, cried, and got angry reading this the entire way through. That is a sign of a brilliant author to portray the emotions in written words and make them felt by the reader.

Such an amazing story

Cat has suffered so much loss in her life, can she really take anymore?

Alec has hit to rock bottom and the only way to go is up, will he really change or will he let grief take him to the grave?

Cat and Alex's story is a wild ride with love, loss, pain, and sorrow. Will they ever be a happy couple again? Can she forgive him? Can he forgive himself?

A must read for sure.
