It’s one of the rules of the rock and roll road: the musicians snub the roadies because they’re uncultured grunts, and the roadies hate the musicians because they’re spoiled brats.
Meet Tryp, the rock star drummer for Killer Valentine, the hottest band on the planet. He's young, he's rich, and his whirlwind life of liquor, women, and screaming crowds is perfect, just as long as he never sobers up.
Elfie Tilsi has been a pyrotechnics technician (don’t call her a “roadie.”) with the breaking-out rock band Killer Valentine for two years, ever since she ran away from home.
The musicians of Killer Valentine are starting to crack from the unrelenting stress and limitless excess of touring. When the band manager tasks Elfie with babysitting Tryp, she tries being a little kind to him and quickly discovers that his problems are far deeper than the rock and roll lifestyle.
Can the love of a rock drummer and the pyromaniac roadie survive?
Blair Babylon is the nom de plume of an award-winning, USA Today-bestselling author who used to publish literary fiction. Because professional reviews of her other fiction usually included the caveat that there was too much deviant sex and too much interesting plot, she decided to abandon all literary pretensions, let her freak flag fly, and write hot, sexy, erotic romance.
I enjoyed this book so much. It was so well written with a unique plot twist, something that I require is a good romance. Tryp is a 21-year-old rock star who is out of control, using drugs and alcohol to self-medicate. His fellow band members are worried that he's going to kill himself by overdosing. There is one of the pyrotechnic engineers who seem to have a positive influence on him and he's much more lucid when she's around. Elie is 19 years old and has issues of her own. The reasons behind their issues are very interesting. This turns into a love story, of course, and they both need each other in order to conquer their demons. The interesting thing is that even though Tryp is a young good looking rich rock star living the rock star life and sleeping with a different woman or two every night he's an innocent at heart. Even though Elie has been around this band "Killer Valentine" for 2 years she's still a virgin. Together they find love and help to heal each other's soul.
Quite enjoyed this one - I actively disliked others in this series, (and don't get me started on Xan) but the MCs were actually sweet and caring with each other most of the time. A pleasant surprise in what is often a poorly-written, clichéd genre.
This might just be one of my favorite of the Killer Valentine love stories. Tryp had a childhood that people only read about and wonder how it could really be happening in our modern world. He's an accomplished musician and an extraordinary drummer, and it isn't simply something he does but something he needs to survive. His dive into alcohol and drugs has done little to quell the nightmares he has about the things he's been through and what he left behind when he became the man he is. And he wonders if there will ever be a time when he can do something to change the circumstances of his past.
Elfie is the pyrotechnics technician for Killer Valentine and has some secrets of her own. She's been running from her past for so long that she wonders if there will ever be a moment of happiness in her life. But one thing she's sure of is the sparks that fly between her and Tryp when she's given the job of looking after him and keeping him out of trouble. Can she save him from himself? And what happens when they discover how real their feelings are for each other and the danger it puts them in?
Tryp and Elfie are such an unlikely pair, and watching the feeling build between the two is such a sweet and natural thing. My heart goes out to Tryp for what he went through and for Elfie for the life she escaped. I wanted so much for them to find happiness with each other, but the story gets so deep and exciting as it moves along, not to mention the disturbing aspects of both of their backgrounds. I know I read this set of books out of order, but knowing the ending to the Rock Stars in Disguise series made this story all the sweeter. This author never ceases to amaze and entertain.

Can the love of a rock drummer and the pyromaniac roadie survive?
I feel like the story ended too ubruptly, w. ith too many unresolved secrets between Tryp and Elfie. The book was definitely engaging and enjoyable but it seems very unfinished to me.
I was kindly given a copy in exchange for an honest review.
After having read What a Girl Wants, I was excited to see Tryp pulled out of his drug induced, rocker world and into a loving relationship. Blair Babylon takes us on the road with Killer Valentine and into a troubling world that Tryp grew up in. It was both heartbreaking and enlightening to see both Tryp and Elfie's past and how they were abused by those that had authority over them.
Elfie, or “fire goddess” as Tryp affectionately calls her, is a roadie and deals with the pyrotechnics while the band Killer Valentine is on stage. Charged with the task of babysitting the bands drummer, Tryp, and try to curb his partying bad boy image, Elfie finds herself drawn to Tryp and the mystery that surrounds him. As his walls start to crumble and he tells her about his past, she quickly realizes that they have both have a tragic history and just need somebody to love. I admired Elfie's spunk and fire and how brave she was in the face of danger, and how she was willing to put her feelings aside for the sake of others and doing what was right. Blair created a woman with so much heart, sass, and spark that you couldn't help but love her.
Tryflon Areleous (aka Tryp) is more than just a dirty rocker hell bent on drugs and woman. He just used the trappings that make up a great part of the rocker lifestyle as a way to escape. Once he encounters the dainty, long blonde hair, corn flower blue eyed pyromaniac, everything starts to fade in comparison. Now he just wants to confront his past and be the man that is worthy of her. Blair shows us that underneath that rock star facade of tattoos, piercings and muscles there is a man who will face untold danger to help those that he cares for and loves. She gives us a hero that is more than worthy of Elfie's love.
Blair Babylon takes you on quite the journey in Somebody to Love with twists and turns that you would never expected. We get to see first hand what a warped upbringing someone could have. She delivers a love that is pure and goes far beyond the physical connection and will conquer all. I highly recommend if you like sexy rockstars, romance, and plenty of intrigue to mix things up and show you what real love is all about.
The thing about Blair Babylon 's writing is how much she can actually Grab you , right through the page . And this story is no different ! To be honest , I read this ages ago , and think posted a review, but I didn't see one . So I just had to read it over again, and here we are !! Tryfon - Tryp - is the Killer drummer of Killer Valentine, , and a very gifted musician, as all of them are ! As a rockstar certain things are expected of him , and by God he's gonna deliver, even if it kills him , which it probably will. Enter Elfie. She is on the team of tech wiz's that set up the stage and fireworks and things of that nature . She has been drafted to babysit Tryp, which No one wants to do. But they all take turns . Ttyl has fallen into bad habits and it's Elfies job to at least try to help him get started and awake enough to do the phone interviews that have been set up . She Does try . She also realizes that isn't who he seems to be. Well , neither is she ! . As the story moves forward, we get to see the reasoning for both of their actions and reactions and where they have both come from. And where they want to go. And , as always the one constant is how to deal with one's last , and move into a better future. And if you can find someone to do that with--- then great ! But what if they can't come along with you ...??? I found this book to be a wonderful blend of hope and angst, and the deep seated family drama that should never even happen , let alone be discussed in polite company. But that's what BLAIR BABYLON dies , she takes the tough topics, and makes you understand how theses situations can occur . And that there are many ways of escaping..... I absolutely LOVE these Series , and will continue to buy ALL of her works , because she is THAT Great !!!!!
Tryp! Drummer extraordinaire with a trouble sleeping, unless he gets so hammered he falls into oblivion. I love Tryp. Xan is a bit of a dick. Elfie is fanfreakingtastic. I love how she manages to work with Tryp and keep her focus on the pyrotechnics for the show....or does she! This was a great romantic read and I love how the story can be a standalone although there are others in the series (yup, I read this one first!).
The Rock Stars In Disguise (RSID) is an AWESOME series that will hook you from the first words! These contemporary romance books are so much more than you’d expect from a typical rock star romance. It pulls us fully into the world of the band Killer Valentine – an up and coming rock group full of unimaginably talented and tortured souls. Each member has their own vibrant personality and jagged flaws; Blair pours their thoughts and experiences through the pages and embeds them directly into your brain (it’s amazing).
These musos are brilliant and broken in unique and complicated ways. I’m a fan of Blair Babylon’s writing style and imagination – I’ve found her to be a first-rate storyteller across a multitude of series. Her books are well planned out, meticulously detailed, and superbly executed. Every story is emotional and intense. I was on a crazy-intense roller coaster of feels right from the start!
This book is about Tryp and Elfie, and is the second story in the RSID series. Tryp, KV’s drummer, is outwardly living the rock star lifestyle, at times barely functional due to drug and alcohol abuse and past hurt. Elfie is the band’s pyrotechnics engineer, bribed by the manager into the additional job of “handling” Tryp and try to keep him out of trouble (or at the very least, alive). She's smart, independent, and blows things up for a living. Elfie wants nothing to do with Tryp other than as a means to an end for her own long-term goals. She hasn’t had an easy life either, but she is a good person and treats him kindly (even when he’s a mess). She soon realizes that there is much more to Tryp and his vices than she could have ever imagined. Slowly, Tryp and Elfie learn to trust each other (and themselves), and start working together to excise their demons. They find that they are stronger than they know, and better together. They deserve their HEA, but in true Blair style, those traumas won’t be going down without a fight!
I was a bit disappointed, but not surprised, to first encounter Tryp as a wasted drunk. After all, that's a risk of being in a rock band, having access to the groupies, the drinking and the drugged out antics with band members and hangers on. Then when Elfie growls at Jonas, the band manager that "Babysitting is for girls". I knew an adventure was set to begin. Their story really ripped at me. Like, tears and need kleenex, ripped into my heart. Even though Tryp and Elfie are in their very early twenties, they both have scar ridden, very old, souls. Blair Babylon wrote this beautifully. Her research and dedication to not over exploiting facts was spot on. For me, this book holds just as much importance and impact, in the Babylon works catalogue; as The Wulf & Rae Omnibus, or perhaps Georgie & Xan or even Lizzy. I just didn't need to take as many breaks from reading 'Somebody to Love' as the others, priorly noted. But, I definitely used as many, if not more tissues. I'm not going to risk a spoiler. I started rooting for Tryp when Lizzy poured him into bed. Then he was crude, of course. And he hooked me with: "Just stay". Lizzy smartly denies the request and then he mumbles "I'll die and no one will know". So readers, what does Lizzie do? I know what I would've done. But, babysitting is definitely up for re definition in this read. I'm very glad to keep it in my library.
Don't you just love a great surprise? Somebody to Love turned out to be a really great surprise to me! It was so much better than I had anticipated. Not to say I didn't think it would be good but I didn't realize just how invested I'd become and how much I'd really dig these musos and roadies. Oops! Don't say roadies and stop calling them musos! After all, they really are badass musicians and techs... I really loved Tryfon and Elfie grew on me in the best kind of way. Tryf is not the stereotypical alpha male but rather the understated, pick yourself up by the boot-straps sorta guy. He just needed his Elfie to bring the sold ground to his life. So many really good things about this book and this author. I love the names that the author chooses. They're never average or cliche for a romance novel and I'm impressed how well this author can skip around from 1st person to 2nd, to 3rd person and I know who is talking or being talked about. Considering the flip-flopping it's not chaotic at all but very well laid out. Also, it was angsty but not overly so and it's definitely a sloooowwww burn. By the time these two "sealed the deal" I was all in, squee! Loved this book!
A little about me before I continue with my review... I have over 800 unread books on my Kindle. I download books I find interesting left and right in addition to my KU list that is usually bursting at the seams. When I finish one book I will randomly choose another (page 80 book 2) and read it. So, I don;t typically know what the book I’m starting is about and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I thought it was going to be a simple story where Tryp and Elfie find love in spite of the cast system in their chosen professions, and it is, but it is also so much more than that. The story was well researched and detailed in a way that wasn’t boring or too much. (I know more about pyrotechnics now than I did before. ) Tryp and Elfie are both beautifully complex characters that were easy to like. There were no cringeworthy moments, no cheating drama. These two are simply good people who had traumatic childhoods and are doing their best to persevere. It was a short story and I liked it enough to continue with the series. The only reason it had 4 stars instead of 5 was that there were too many typos.
This is an engaging rockstar romance that puts you through all the feels. I’ve read a lot of rockstar books and for some reason, I always like the drummers’ stories best. This book is no different as I loved the characters and the storyline. I fell in-love with Tryp almost immediately with my heart breaking many times over for him. He is a damaged bad boy who had quite the unique and not-so-great childhood. He is strong, but also vulnerable and protective. Elfie is feisty, caring also had a troubled past. One of the interesting things about this book is that she is one of the pyrotechnic techs on the tour. This is a profession that I was pretty clueless about and I enjoyed learning a few behind the scenes of what occurs during setting up and take down a concert set - especially when it comes to the fun flames and sparks and whatnot. Somebody To Love has likable well-developed characters, an interesting storyline, some angst, some action, and moves at a great pace. It is my first book by this author and it definitely will not be the last.
Tryp & Elfie, not your typical rock love story.... and that's a good thing
Tryp and Elfie. , , not your typical rock love story by any means,,,,and that's very good thing. I have read countless stories of this type and truthfully after awhile they all seem to run together. This one I am pleased to state stands out because the story line is different as ate Tryp and Elfie. I am not one to discuss plots, that is what author notes are for. What I will say this story is told beautifully, and flows seamlessly from first word to last. I am looking forward to the other works in this series and am pleased to have discovered a new favourite author to add to my list. I suggest you take the time to read Tryp and Elfie's story. To Ms. Babylon, I say thank you, and may the music of your words continue to flow.....always.
He was trying to forget his past by using drugs and alcohol, but in the end what helped him the most was a girl who liked to blow stuff up! Elfie had been the pyrotechnic operator with the band for 2 years, but she knew how to get a drunk person sober quickly, and Jonas pays her extra to babysit Tryp.. as he does a lot of the radio interviews prior to concerts. When he talks about his childhood on national radio things get worse.. And he almost loses her but as he rushes to her side, she rescues herself... They marry on the week long vacation in Vegas when Xan goes to Flicka's wedding where Wulf and Rae get married too! This story was not about instant love but more that he had been looking in the wrong places for someone to love, but they both had issues to resolve first.

Wow, where to begin. This was by far, one of the best Rock Stars books. It was heart pounding, heart wrenching and passionate, with plenty of humor to boot.
The characters of Elfie and Tryp were extremely well done, and you couldn't help fall in love with them. You also hoped throughout the book that everything worked out. I sure didn't see the events of the last few chapters happening.
Highly recommend this book. I t was awesome, and almost had me in tears in some places.
I really liked this story of Tryp, drummer for Killer Valentine, and Elfie, one of the roadie pyrotechnic staff. The roadies don't mix with the musicians. But Elfie is asked to help handle Tryp and get him to interviews sober and on time. What happens is predictable (which is why we love them). But Tryp's story is not and it makes for an interesting background story. I like books where we get to see the band play, rehearse, write, and be rock stars. Tryp's story delivers with the good and the bad.
Elfie, the pyrotechnical tech, has babysitting duties to keep drummer Tryp out of trouble and as sober as possible. Not an easy job, but she finds qualities in him that make her try to save him from excesses. Their love story is Big Bang Fireworks and Romeo and Juliet with a happy ending.
DNF... I'm very confused as to how this could have so many high ratings. This was a mess to read. The way it's written, the dialogue and the story was annoying as hell. There were so many weird, unnecessary fillers and details that it dragged shit out. And, I don't know about you, but I'm not big on reading about teenagers (cuz the lead female is 19!) having sex. Thanks but no thanks.
I enjoyed the story. The names of the characters are unique and they go with the personalities. I felt at times that the story was kind of stuck in one place and then it would move a little bit and get stuck again. I will read the second book in the series just to see how it goes.
In this installment of the Killer Valentine world I enjoyed Tryp and Elfie's story. I was hooked from the start with their story that had a few twists this I did not see. The chemistry between the pair was amazing and I enjoyed their interactions when Elfie was helping Tryp to become sober and a better person. This read had me hooked from the start!
*****Somebody to Love: Tryp by Blair Babylon: Good storyline, well written Loved both Tryp and Elfie! Both have traumatic things in their past, and they balance one another. Slow build, but never boring. A surprising twist and a wonderful HEA. All the feels.... —PTators
This was an intense book. With a techie crew member trying to help Tryp, we find out about their pasts and a bit of suspense makes it’s way into this series. Beneath the alcohol and addictions, these rock stars have pain and suffering they are masking. This book happens concurrently with the previous one.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. I had read all the others and just couldn't imagine anymore from this series. I was wrong, very wrong. Another one hit out of the park!
Tryp and Elfie were such a sweet couple, I really liked the way she handled him in the morning, getting him up and ready for his radio interviews. And he was so funny getting her to spend time with him. They made a perfect couple.
Five stars are not enough for this rock star brilliance. Tryp is a brilliant character, his story was harrowing. I loved Elfie and her bombs. The story had me hooked right from the start, it's a real page turner that I read in one sitting until the perfect ending.
Couldn't stop reading this book. Read The next book first (Can and Georgie) and took a chance on a sequel. The history of characters draw you in and are well developed. Just the right pace and believable tortured souls.
I enjoyed reading this book. I always enjoy Blair's books. They are fun, exciting and heart wrenching as this one. It really tugged at my heart at all the injustices that still take place.
I’ve been reading Blair for a few years now and find her work extraordinary. I have the this bad habit of reading series out of order, but it’s actually been fun doing it that way.
