There are humans (changed humans but humans nonetheless). There is a mission outside of finding and burying corpses, the culture of the human world should continue on and grow and develop. The library, the museum, the rail system- all beautiful and important things that made us human and taught us so much. Burying the bodies is a good mission and a kind thing, but now, the ability to help preserve and save humanity’s soul feels a little more achievable.

This series is so hopeful, it is rare to find a post apocalyptic story where you feel hope. This is one of the rare cases.

A bit more melancholic this time. (But could still be even more so.)
Might be due to the visit to the library, and then also the time-skip (which surprised me).
Chapter 9 and 13 are my favorite in this volume.

The chapters have become less routinely, and especially with an addition of two new main characters, the mission has changed a bit.
I really like the darker-skinned character, but I'm still not much a fan of the taller one. Although it was good to see his backstory, but I generally don't like it much that the main cast has expanded that soon. I was hoping this series to be mostly "lonesome", at least in the first few volumes.

On the other hand, it is interesting to get more lore info, especially regarding the great war. The first chapters in the first volume made me think that the war and the alien invasion (+ the virus) came around the same time (which was 50 years ago?), but apparently not.
Turns out, the great war was 1000 years ago? I'm not very sure I understood that correctly. That seems way too far in the past. And how old does that Saya make?

It was also nice to see some animals finally.

Overall, the vibe is like a mix of melancholy and hope. While I'd want more melancholy, I do kinda also like the hopefulness, cause the author seems to be having a similar view on mankind as I do. And that means that humans are in fact all gone (the best part of this series ngl), and it's time for a new species to roam earth.

Die Reise für Saya und Ku geht weiter. Durch eine leere Bibliothek und einer Zugfahrt lernen sie weitere Menschen kennen.
Es lohnt sich, die Erzählweise wie auch Illustration lassen einen gespannt zurück.

The librarian storyline?? So good. Gave me big WALL·E vibes 🤖🖤
Ethan 😭 I just love how seriously he takes his job, even in the middle of an apocalypse 🙌🏻
And yeah… it was sad. Obviously 😭

We also meet new humans which made the world feel even bigger and somehow heavier at the same time. I really hope we get more info about the world in the next volumes
Saya and Ku are still so interesting to me. They come off kinda emotionless and carefree, but their actions say the opposite. I love that contrast, especially compared to the world around them. You can even see it in the art style and it’s just sooo beautiful
I’m really happy that I already got the next volume because I am OBSESSED with this series 🖤
Also the storytelling feels really episodic, which would honestly make it perfect for an anime 👀
And, I really really hope this gets an anime someday 🥹
Volume 2 did not disappoint. It was melancholic, beautiful, sad, a bit philosophical and the art is just amazing!

Saya und Ku sind für mich immer noch super spannende Charaktere. Sie wirken irgendwie emotionslos und unbeschwert, aber ihre Handlungen sagen das komplette Gegenteil. Ich liebe diesen Kontrast, vor allem im Vergleich zu der Welt um sie herum. Man sieht das sogar im Artstyle und der ist einfach sooo schön

Ich bin richtig froh, dass ich den nächsten Band schon hier habe, weil ich OBSESSED mit dieser Reihe bin 🖤

Das Storytelling fühlt sich sehr episodisch an, was es ehrlich gesagt perfekt für einen Anime machen würde 👀
Und, ich hoffe wirklich wirklich, dass das irgendwann einen Anime bekommt 🥹🙌🏻

Band 2 hat definitiv nicht enttäuscht. Es war melancholisch, schön, traurig, ein bisschen philosophisch und der Artstyle ist einfach super schön.

Like the previous volume of The Color of the End: Mission in the Apocalypse, this second installment exceeded my expectations and has now solidified itself as a series I will continue to read.

Saya, a provisional inspector with the Ushimitsu Technical Research Institute, is on a mission to find survivors and cleanse the land of the poisonous crystallosis pathogen that kills any human who breathes it in. However, after the events of the first volume, she now has lost motivation for that mission until an unlikely visitor shows up at her door.

Right away I was hooked on the continuation of the first volume and how instead of just ignoring everything that happened, Saya is affected by those events, even if she's processing things at a different pace. The first few chapters have been my favorite that I’ve read of the series so far. Like the previous volume, the stories are immensely moving by both what we see and don’t see on the page.

Despite the apocalyptic setting and the grim reality the characters find themselves in, there is a strong theme of hope throughout each of these pages. Most stories in this genre have the reader feeling as though they are in a constant state of depression as there really is no realistic ultimate goal to work towards. The Color of the End explores the motivation each character has for moving forward in the way of goals. I think this part was particularly moving because it puts in perspective how someone can keep living after so much tragedy.

Shoutout to my fellow beepboop robot fans, as there is plenty here to warm your circuits.

The art really sells the contrast between the characters eking out a living amidst the ruins of a war torn world around them. The dark detailed backgrounds of destruction contrast with the lighter drawn characters and really hone in on the devastation of what has been lost.

A picture can say a thousand words, and The Color of the End: Mission in the Apocalypse is a perfect example of the power of visual storytelling. I enjoyed this volume even more than the first, and I cannot wait to see more of Saya’s journey through the ruins of a world that is gone but not without leaving important messages behind. If you are looking for a beautiful, melancholic story about the deep connections we can make, take a trip with The Color of the End: Mission in the Apocalypse.

У мене доволі невеликий досвід із читанням манґи, але кожна з тих, яку я обирала, мені дуже подобалася. І я насправді радію, що MAL'OPUS активно займається її виданням і дозволяє українським читачам познайомитися із новою для себе культурою та літературою💭

Я прочитала перші два томи манґи «На межі забуття: Апокаліптична місія» Харуо Івамуне одну за одною. Наша головна героїня — це дівчина на ім'я Сая Ушіміцу, яка живе у світі, де майже немає людей і головним її завданням є пошук вцілілих від катастроф й дослідження зараженої землі. Вона є тимчасовою науковою співробітницею Інституту технічних досліджень Ушіміцу, і мені також дуже сподобалося, що у неї є свій, якщо можна так сказати, улюбленець на ім'я Ку, і він для мене є таким милим й хорошим😊

Хочеться згадати й те, як красиво й деталізовано змальовані заражені й закинуті міста. Загалом мені дуже подобається, як оформлена ця манґа. Мені здається, вона про те, що ми можемо втратити, про улюблені місця, міста, про наш спосіб життя і загалом про катастрофи, які нас можуть спіткати.

Думаю, що варто розповісти й про те, що у двох томах часом з'являються маленькі вставки з минулого, які дозволяють нам краще пізнати героїв, їхні характери та прагнення здійснити власні місії в теперішньому часі.

• Тих людей і місцин давно немає, але поки існують ті, хто можуть дивитися фільми, вони й надалі житимуть у нашій пам’яті.

• Заради тих, хто, можливо, колись піде нашим шляхом, навіть якщо це буде лише одна людина, що прагне знань, ми повинні зберегти все, що маємо.

• Кожна книга — це чийсь внутрішній світ. Одна думка про це заворожує. Хай то фільм чи роман, яким неосяжним не був би справжній світ, вони створять безліч нових. Люди справді загадкові.

• Ну… Запах книг, наприклад. Відчуття паперу на дотик, шелест сторінок, їх реальність, зрештою і це місце, що зберігає в собі такі відчуття. Його неможливо не любити, і тих хто так вважає, більше, ніж може здатися.

Una buena continuación que no va está mal, aunque perder el factor sorpresa original te fastidia un poco la experiencia. Me ha gustado algo menos que el anterior, sobre todo porque meter a dos personajes nuevos me sobra bastante cuando daba la sensación de que aún quedaba muchísimo por descubrir de la protagonista a solas.

La trama retoma ese viaje contemplativo por un mundo en lenta decadencia, pero esta vez la soledad se rompe. La introducción de estos dos secundarios cambia por completo la dinámica de la ruta, pasando de la introspección melancólica a una especie de convivencia en marcha. La evolución de las relaciones está bien llevada y te da más o menos lo esperado, pero en el fondo acaba resultando en casi una historia lineal sin más; un mero deambular por el escenario charlando mientras buscan un objetivo.

En cuanto a la forma, el apartado gráfico sigue siendo una preciosidad y el uso del ¿color? mantiene su peso narrativo. Sin embargo, al esfumarse el impacto inicial, el ritmo intimista se vuelve más terrenal. Sinceramente, viendo por dónde van los tiros, un enfoque más centrado en explorar la rareza del entorno me habría encajado más; algo al estilo del mítico cómic Ciudad de Ricardo Barreiro y Juan Giménez, dejando que el paisaje hablara por sí solo en lugar de diluirlo en las charlas de un grupo improvisado.

Se lo recomendaría a los que disfrutaron del primer volumen, quieran cerrar la historia y no les importe que el viaje se vuelva más coral. No se lo recomendaría a quienes busquen giros de guion rompedores que superen al original, ni a los que, como yo, sientan que meter secundarios con calzador suele estropear la magia de un buen protagonista que funcionaba perfectamente en silencio.

Es kriegt fünf Sterne, weil eine Bibliothek und ein Bibliotheksrobotermitarbeiter darin vorkommt. Als Bib-Mitarbeiterin war ich echt begeistert, und natürlich treiben mir Stories mit Robotern, die alleine sind, die Tränen in die Augen ;W; - die Dramastory mit den Menschen nicht, lol.

Generell ist dieser Band wieder super, wie gesagt, die Bibliothek und der Roboter, den Saya dort findet, und der die Aufgabe der Direktoriin übernommen hat, alle 30.000 ausgeliehenen Bücher zurück zu holen und für die zukünftigen Menschen einzulagern, war einfach so fucking süß und ich versteh die Aussage mit dem Wissen so sehr ;W; es war wirklich niedlich.

Danach bekommen wir wieder mehr Weltenlore und ... was ich eigentlich schade finde, Überlebende. Ich find es generell bei diesen ganzen "Postapokalypse, die Welt ist menschenleer, eine Person/Robot/Whatever sucht nach Überlebenden" und 2 Bände später findet man sie schon. War ja dann doch nicht so leer die Welt :/ keine Ahnuung. ich find das immer n wenig schade, wenn die so schnell Leute finden. Aber naja. Die Chars sind aber spannend, die gefunden werden.

Saya's journey continues in the second volume of The Color of the End, as a non-human whose job it is to identify those dead from crystalosis and give them a proper burial (cremation) while trying to find actual humans that may have survived. In the second volume, which begins with a library and a library bot trying to retrieve all of the lost books from the library as his mission, Saya takes on this mission as well. I loved the interaction between the robot and Saya when she asked what the point of collecting them was "As long as one person still seeks knowledge then it's all worth protecting" which is why they were moved to the basement because the original beautifully Gothic library is in shambles above.

With Saya's new mission, she comes into contact with a brother and a sister who also are not quite human and saves them and learns their backstory as children born to infected mothers who are also immune to crystalosis.

This second adventure is as imaginative, thoughtful, and dynamic as the first with a resonant emotional level about what it means to connect in a post-apocalyptic world.

Bereits im ersten Teil habe ich das World Building und die „shortcuts“ im Plot erwähnt. Die Problematik damit geht für mich im zweiten Teil weiter. Es werden Themen angeschnitten, aber nicht beendet und Fragen aufgeworfen, die scheinbar nicht mehr beantwortet werden.
Ich meine nichts in Bezug auf den großen Krieg oder die Invasion (da erwarte ich definitiv Antworten in den folgenden Teilen), sondern beispielsweise die Geschwister: Wie funktioniert die Weiterentwicklung des Embryos in dem toten Körper der Mutter? Wie wird dieses Kind geboren? Wie ernährt es sich? Geht das alles nur, wenn dem Baby geholfen wird oder passiert das selbstständig? (– Vor allem weil die Formulierungen auf die zweite Option hindeuten.)
Ich weiß, dass ich ein Korinthenkacker bin, aber ich komm einfach nicht drum rum. Besonders in Hinsicht auf die „biologischen“ Hintergründe der Story fällt es mir schwer, da sich der Manga scheinbar auf eine evolutionäre und/oder ökologische Perspektive hinbewegt.

Ich bin gespannt auf die nächsten Teile vor allem auf die zwischenmenschlichen oder-maschinellen Interaktionen, die dem Manga eine ganz besonderen Qualität geben.

Хоч до сюжету є питання, але знижувати бал не хочеться, адже ще кілька томів попереду.

Візуал досі тримає на собі все. Красиво, але масштабних фонів поменшало. Ще я мала надію на фінальний, але океан був такий розмитий, що я нічого в ньому не побачила.

Також стало сумно через обмеження персонажів. Звісно, Ітана це не стосується. Він витягнув на собі весь том. У цій історії справді найбільше співчуваєш роботам. Ніби й локація банальна, і почуття прив’язаності не нові, але як же гарно вийшло. Особливо прощання. Тут усі прощання такі щемкі.

З братом і сестрою сюжет сподобався не так. Я взагалі не впевнена у доречності їхніх особливостей. Читати про простих людей, а особливо чекати їх увесь перший том було дуже захопливо. Тепер мені наче принесли все на тарілочці та посипали суперздібностями. А на десерт сльозлива драма про тата.

Вірю в краще та пробачаю цій історії багато чого за тих роботів, прощання з ними та відчуття приреченості й самотності.

Видавництву окрема подяка за папір, а всім причетним до тексту за увагу до змісту.

I love reading the library chapters there was this one quote which stood out the most in my mind " As long as one person still seeks knowledge then it's all worth protecting " It is the perfect quote for this series it is highlights even in the worst moments we can find a positive way to keep on going.

The Color Of The End story is getting better through every chapter as all of the unanswered questions are starting to be solved. I am curious how much of humanity can be saved at near the end of the world. Thankfully the cinema, natural history museum and library has been saved for future generations.

This was fine. I think volume 1 was a lot stronger. This volume gets repetitive fast - our main character arrives at a place, a robot is there still doing its duty, we get a flashback of that robot's life, lather, rinse, repeat. Given how short volume 2 is compared to volume 1, the fact that we're already being repetitive does not bode well for the rest of the series, so I won't be continuing. I still think the art is incredible, and the worldbuilding was fascinating. I just wish this manga was doing more with that worldbuilding than the same thing over and over.

And I did give Vol 2 a go! I liked it way more in certain aspects - I LOVE Ethan! But then the siblings didn't do it for me at all. I liked the whole conversation around books and worlds and future. You know, I think it's worth a read for sure. It's unique enough (imo) and with it's quiet nature leaves you with quite a warm feeling.

Volume two expand on Saya’s journey as she encounters other survivors among the apocalyptic wasteland. There’s more fighting, more character development and a lot more emotions than the first.

It also, sort of, upends that afterwards, but still, we're getting somewhere.
