As a Mencari, Evren knew three things for certain: how to lie, how to kill, and to never, under any circumstances, trust the Gods. They had abandoned her—left her alone in a realm of monsters. But as Fate should have it, she was one of those monsters now, trained in the art of death and deception.
Her freedom had never truly been her own, and with a mistress such as hers, she was more than accustomed to being used for her skills. When a neighboring kingdom offers to take her away from it all in exchange for her services, she is faced with a promise of freedom she never imagined. The only issue? The two bargain marks now inked upon her skin, a sign of the death warrant she sealed.
But there is more at play than bargains. Tensions are rising in Natyria: Alynthi is turning on itself, Mortala is crumbling, and the other kingdoms of the realm must soon pick a side. Rebellion is at Mortala’s doorstep, and Evren just might be the only one who can stop it. Faced with the reality of her situation, she must decide—kill the king, or stop the war for a chance at freedom. But the marks on her flesh mean that either choice will inevitably end the same way: no matter what, she shall greet Death himself.
This was such a compelling and immersive dark fantasy read. The world-building immediately stood out—the concept of Chaos giving way to Life, Death, and Fate, and the creation of nine gods who ultimately abandon the world, adds a rich, mythological depth that lingers throughout the story. The political tension between Alynthi and Mortala kept the stakes consistently high, and I loved how layered the conflict felt. Nothing is straightforward, and every faction operates in shades of gray. Evren was a standout protagonist. Her internal struggle between duty and morality made her feel real and complex, especially as she’s forced into an impossible mission. Watching her question everything she’s been taught—and everything she thought she knew—was one of the most engaging parts of the book. The dynamic surrounding Nox and his court added even more intrigue. The deeper Evren gets, the more the narrative shifts, and I really appreciated how the story challenges your assumptions about who the true “enemy” is. If I had one small critique, it would be that some elements felt slightly dense at times, especially early on, but once everything clicks into place, it’s absolutely worth it. Overall, this is a gripping, morally complex fantasy filled with secrets, betrayal, and high-stakes tension. Definitely recommend for readers who love dark worlds and complicated characters.
Thank you E. Arlyn and K. Emaline fir allowing me to ARC read your wonderful book.
4.25⭐️. Wow, this was a fantastic way to start the Threads of Fate series and an amazing debut from E. Arlyn & K. Emaline! It’s written in such a descriptive way that makes the world building easy to follow and visualize in my mind!
Evren is a strong and fierce FMC and I literally love that about her! She has been trained as an assassin, and when the opportunity arises to potentially gain her freedom, how could she possibly say no? Only things are never as easy as they might seem.
I loved the banter with Evren and Nox - the tension between these two is THICK. Like so thick I could feel it as the reader, holy smokes. Also, the fact that he’s a shadow daddy has me instantly loving him!
And then those twists! I definitely anticipated things to happen and for secrets to come to light, but loved that I was kept on my toes and surprised, especially in that last 5-10%! And now I’ll just silently spiral until we have book 2 because I NEED to know what happens next! If you are a dark romantasy lover and enjoy the tropes listed below, definitely add this to your TBR asap!
What to expect: ✨gods & magic ✨slow burn & TENSION ✨morally grey fmc ✨she was sent to kill him ✨shadow daddy ✨found family ✨political intrigue ✨hidden identities
I’d give These Deadly Sins a solid 4 stars. If you love dark romantasy, witty banter, a strong and stubborn FMC, and a grumpy, broody MMC, then look no further this one delivers exactly that vibe.
The character dynamics were easily the highlight for me. The tension, the back-and-forth, and the emotional walls between them made everything feel charged and engaging. Several lines really stuck with me, especially: *“My loyalty was to myself, and it had been for a long time. There was less room for people to disappoint you that way.”* It perfectly captures the FMC’s guarded nature.
There were so many other quotes that added depth to the story and its themes: *“Hope was a double edged blade. You either learned to wield it, or it would cut you down where you stood.”* *“I was a ghost of my real self, so lost in the confines of my own mind that I barely existed at all.”* *“Anger is the sharpest weapon of all. Use it, hone it. And when your curiosity gets the better of you, when you finally decide to stop fighting the inevitable… we will talk.”* *“It was a brutal sort of torture, being trapped in the confines of one’s own mind.”*
The world leans into the darker side of romantasy, giving the story a heavier emotional weight. At times, I wanted a bit more development in certain areas, but the atmosphere, angst, and chemistry kept me invested throughout.
And the dedication felt especially meaningful: *“To all those who have ever fought to belong, to choose your own path you are enough.”* It ties beautifully into the core themes of identity and self-worth that run through the story.
Overall, a strong 4-star read and definitely worth picking up if you enjoy emotionally intense, character-driven fantasy romance.
ARC Review of These Deadly Sins by E. Arlyn K. Emaline
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Tropes: •Morally Grey FMC, Assassin FMC •Found Family •Enemies to Lovers •Ancient Gods and Magic
First of all, I’m blown away that this is a debut novel. It’s extremely well written and the world building and lore is very well done, I was immediately immersed and intrigued by the Gods and magic! I absolutely love the idea of the “starbound”, a nice taste of something different when the fated mates trope is so popular!
Love the FMC! I’m not usually one who loves a feisty, snarky FMC, but Evren was the perfect balance in my opinion Again, I’m not usually a huge lover of the “shadow daddy” trope, but I enjoyed Nox’s character a lot.
I really appreciated relationship between Nox and Evren, it truly did feel like a real enemies to lovers (to enemies?), and the two MC’s banter was just the right amount. This book is a SLOW burn, which I really enjoyed.
The side characters are what really took the story to the next level for me. I think Hayes is my favourite character out of everyone, I really enjoyed the banter and friendship between Evren and him. E. Arlyn, K. Emaline, he better be in book two!
And finally, that ending! I can’t say much that wouldn’t be spoilers, but I need the sequel ASAP! I still have so many questions I need answered! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to be an ARC reader, can’t wait for everyone else to read the story!

I was literally only a couple pages into this novel and I was already obsessed. The world-building is insanely detailed, and the mystery around Evren’s connection to the gods had me hooked immediately.
The WRITING too?? “…but I supposed that was why ribs were cages.” ARE YOU KIDDING ME. And “Stay with me Death. The only God known to me.” Yeah… I knew I was done for. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book with such advanced vocabulary. I found it very refreshing.
The tension in this book is unreal. The banter is sharp, the chemistry is constant, and the slow burn is actually PAINFUL (like the slowest burn ever, but it works). And Nox?? I folded immediately. Finding out he’s not only the king, but also the God of Death had me LOSING IT—I’m fully in love with him.
Evren is such a strong FMC (and a reader!!), and I loved the multiple POVs. The mystery and deception kept me guessing the whole time, and I still got blindsided—ZEKIEL being the traitor??? Actually insane.
There’s a great mix of action and quieter moments, though some important scenes felt a bit rushed while other parts dragged a little. Needless to say, there was a lot of great scenes, but some felt like they went on for chapters before they finally got to the main plot point for that specific scene.
Throughout this book, I was hooked, stressed, and completely invested. If you like slow burn, tension, and plot twists that hit, read this immediately when it hits the shelves on April 28!! Thank you for the ARC copy 🫰
P.S. Can’t wait for book 2!!

A HUGEEEEE thank you to E. Arlyn & K. Emaline for blessing me with the opportunity to receive and read this masterpiece as an ARC🧡 I seriously cannot wait to see where the series takes us.
“To all those who have ever fought to belong, to choose your own path—you are enough.”
To say I’m OBSESSED with this book is wholly an understatement!! I loved every single part of this book.
It did take me a little bit to really settle into the book but once I did i couldn’t put it down. There is so much to digest after finishing. I loved all of the characters the blended so well yes even Nero🙄 I was kinda his biggest hater for most of the book. But Hayes is hand down my favorite in the book. The way Hayes, Evren, and Astrid were able to just click🤞🏼 I really really hope in the next installment they are able to build more of this friendship.
Evren my darling badass Mencari that you are🙌🏼🙌🏼 fucking kicking ass taking names. I love that she was able to find her a family(even tho bc of shit circumstances it fell to shreds) SHE FUCKING DESERVES IT!
2 things that I had my suspicions on were Evs past and Nox’s true self. *pat on the back for being correct with both😜* what I didn’t see coming was who was behind the betrayal BC WTFFFF my jaw was on the floor for most of the ending. There’s sooo many things left unanswered😩
Tropes:🧡 Enemies to Lovers Slow Burn Found Family Morally Grey FMC Gods and Magic Shadow Daddy
ARC Review - thank you to E. Arlyn and K. Emaline for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of your book!
These Deadly Sins is a gripping romantasy following Evren, a sassy but emotionally complex assassin who agrees to provide her services to quell a rising rebellion in a neighbouring kingdom in exchange for her freedom.
I must say, there were times where I could see the plot twists coming, but there were definitely a few that I never saw coming! Secret after secret is revealed to create moments of shock and emotional devastation. And that cliffhanger! I have so many questions and I’m desperate to know what’s going to unfold in book two.
The found family and side characters were so heartwarming. I am so emotionally invested in their character journeys in addition to Evren and the MMC. The authors did a wonderful job at creating characters that could feel like your own best friends if only they could step out of the pages.
The romance ❤️🔥 it is a slow burn, full of tension and yearning. Book one only scratches the surface and I really hope to see things amp up in book two because this couple are going to be an absolute force to be reckoned with 🙌🏻
You’ll like this book if you love: 🔥 assassin FMC 🔥 shadow daddy 🔥 he falls first 🔥 slow burn and yearning 🔥 found family 🔥 political intrigue 🔥 hidden identities 🔥 fated mates
I'm a belated ARC reader, finally getting to writing my review.
I loved it, I want book 2 right now. Everyone I've mentioned this book to has been intrigued by the premise. Who doesn't love competing bargains in the face of death? Evren must do as her mistress says and kill the king of the neighbouring kingdom, but she has also just agreed to join his court and help him with problems her services were made for. In a land of gods and magic, which bargain will hold up in the end? And of course, when there is a literal god of fate is freedom even a possibility.
It is a slow burn, but the pacing just works so well with the story. Not super spicy, but in book 1 we're all here for tension and world building right? The world building was great, I got a real feel for Natyria and Mortala specifically. With Evren coming from a different kingdom we get a good fish out of water story too.
I will say, my one caveat is that I wish the chapters had headings. Most stories that I've read with perspective swapping have something to quickly tell the reader its the main male or female lead, either through chapter title or chapter ornament. But you will get into the proper ebb and flow of it.
So many characters leads to some confusion at first, but once things settle, this story becomes an engaging and darkly compelling ride. an assassin shaped by abandonment, survival, and hard-earned skill. Her identity as a Mencari and her distrust of the Gods immediately set a grim tone, and the opening does a great job of establishing both her emotional scars and lethal competence. The premise—being offered freedom in exchange for her services while bearing deadly magical bargains—creates a constant sense of tension that carries the narrative forward. The worldbuilding is ambitious, with multiple kingdoms like Natyria, Alynthi, and Mortala all on the brink of collapse or rebellion. While this adds depth, it can feel a bit overwhelming early on, especially with the introduction of several factions and political threads in quick succession. However, readers who stick with it will find a richer, more layered story unfolding as the stakes become clearer. this is a gripping fantasy with a morally complex heroine, high stakes, and a haunting sense of inevitability.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
These Deadly Sins is a romantasy with slow-burn tension and found family dynamics, with secrets unfolding throughout the story.
I really enjoyed this ARC, it pulled me in right from the start and I found it hard to put down. The world-building was a little confusing at times, but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment.
There were a few scenes where I had to go back and reread to fully understand what was happening, and even then it was still a bit unclear. There were also a couple of inconsistencies that interrupted the flow. For example, it mentions him moving them to his chambers using his shadows, but in the same scene it refers to her being in her blankets and then being in his room — it left me a bit unsure of where they actually were.
I do wish we’d had more character-driven moments in places. For example, I would have loved to see the scene where Hayes was reading her book out loud before Nox took it — that could have added some really nice character depth.
I also felt like there weren’t enough scenes between Evern and Nox. I would have loved more of that tension and yearning between them.
I was able to predict most of the plot twists, but that’s likely because I read a lot of fantasy.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and would definitely recommend it. I’m looking forward to the next book!

Tropes first because this one?? DARK, DEADLY, and FULL OF FATE 👀🖤🔥
• assassin FMC • morally grey heroine 🗡️ • gods who can’t be trusted • “kill the king… or save the world” stakes • fate you can’t outrun
Yeah… I was hooked IMMEDIATELY.
These Deadly Sins drops you straight into a world where survival isn’t guaranteed—and trust?? Basically nonexistent 👀
Evren?? She’s not soft. Not naive.
She’s been shaped by betrayal, trained to kill, and forced to survive in a world that already decided her fate 🖤
And the stakes?? INSANE.
Freedom is right there… but it comes with a cost that might destroy her anyway. And no matter what she chooses?? It all leads back to death 🔥
The tension between choice vs fate runs through everything—and it keeps you locked in because there’s no easy outcome here 👀
✨ This is a 5⭐ because: • the FMC is strong, complex, and ruthless in the best way • the world feels dark, layered, and immersive • the stakes are high from start to finish • it keeps you completely invested
✨ If you love: • dark fantasy 🖤 • assassin heroines • morally grey characters • high-stakes, fate-driven stories
This one is intense, gritty, and impossible to put down 👀🔥
"They'd abandoned me. They knew from birth I was nothing but a damned soul whose destiny was to destroy, kill, and deceive. Yet they still chose to leave me to Fate."
I loved the world building, the characters and the mystery. Our fmc is an assassin and she goes on a mission, her life hasn't been easy. She doeant trust the gods and well everyone.
"She had no idea how thoroughly she had me wrapped around her little finger If she told me to burn the world to ash. I would. If she told me to forsake my throne, I would. I would rend the soul from every being. I would destroy this realm and any other, if only she asked."
I honestly didnt like the mmc chapters, his point of view felt a bit off and thats why I didnt give it five stars.
I really did enjoy the court aka the side characters all bringing moments of laughter and truly their own people.
Received this as an ARC from the author, this is my honest review.
Absolutely a fan of the FMC, she's one tough cookie, and has been through some things that will have you rooting for her from start to finish.
Um... can we say new book boyfriend? 😍 and that slow burn... was REAL. 🙌
Found family, tension, banter, and action, exactly what you're looking for in a dark romantasy.
The pacing was decent, the ending, however... your heart might be racing a little bit 🤯
Favorite quotes/lines: "To feel love was to bare your soul, and to bare your soul was a death sentence."
“Grumpy and violent? How dare you. I am a lady.”
"Not the hot-as-fuck emissary who looked like he stepped straight out of one of my books..."
"...there comes a time when each of us becomes responsible for choosing to either stay in the cycle that another started or opting to step into our own power and make our own way."
I received a review readers copy of this story, and this is my honest review. This book had some great world building, in depth characters, and was complex enough to keep me engaged and invested the entire read. This Dark Fantasy certainly didn't shy from the heavy topics or scenes and I loved it all the more for that! There wasn't much that was glossed over or lacking detail, unless purposely done to keep the story moving or further something else in a relationship or place to keep you engaged and even then it wasn't lacking detail but rather building excitement or tension. This book was full of complex dynamics! The characters, the situations, the world, all of it had complexities and layers, just like in the real world which made this even easier to sink into. I just wished there had been smoother transitions or less dense material at times as it seemed to drag certain moments on longer than may have been needed. It was a really fun read overall!
These Deadly Sins by Arlyn and Emaline is dark, tense, and impossible to trust.
Evren is a morally grey FMC surviving through manipulation, bad choices, and options that only get worse. Nothing in her world is simple, and every decision comes with consequences. Often brutal ones.
The vibe is pure mistrust. Every bargain is dangerous, every mark carries risk, and nothing comes without a cost. The tension builds relentlessly as alliances shift and hidden motives come to light, until everything feels like it’s on the verge of collapse.
The world is messy in the best way — full of political power struggles, secrets, and constantly changing loyalties. I never felt safe, never knew who to believe, and that unease kept me hooked. I came for the assassin vibes and stayed because I didn’t trust a single thing happening — and I loved that.
Oh my god! This was honestly one of my favorite fantasy reads of the year. Everything was just so good. The concept behind the book with the gods, the banter between the MMC and FMC, as well as all the supporting characters.
I love a slow burn and this was done soo good. The banter between Evren and Nox had me giggling and kicking my feet, even when it was mostly them insulting one another. Evren was such a strong FMC, from her fighting skills to just her confidence in herself.
That ending had me gobsmacked. I didn't see the betrayal coming at all. Only down to the end when the hints started adding up did I piece it together along with everyone else, but I hoped I was wrong. Also that ending scene, I refuse to accept it. I cannot wait for book two!
Thank you to the author for gifting me an early copy of the book. Absolutely loved it!
I loved the grumpy shadow daddy MMC and the fierce FMC assassin trying to win her freedom ❤️ I love a book with good banter and this does not disappoint. The authors did a great job with found family and all the side characters. They were likable and had me invested in their journey. I cannot wait for the next book to find out how this story continues!
The dedication❤️ To all those who have ever fought to belong, to choose your own path—you are enough.
Quoted/lines
To feel love was to bare your soul, and to bare your soul was a death sentence.
Hope was a double edged blade. You either learned to wield it, or it would cut you down where you stood.
Thank you to the authors for choosing me to read and review an ARC copy of this book
"As a Mencari, Evren knew three things for certain: how to lie, how to kill, and to never, under any circumstances, trust the Gods."
These Deadly Sins by E. Arlyn and K. Emaline was just amazing! The first in the new Threads of Fate series, it has great world-building, a stabby morally gray FMC 🔥, a shadow daddy 🖤, and some of the best banter I've read in a while! Evren is definitely a new favorite FMC for me! This book has me hooked from page one and I'm a little sad it's over so soon (535 pages later)! Releases April 28th! I received this eARC from the author/publisher, but this honest review is voluntary
I absolutely loved this book! I couldnt put it down and thought this was an amazing start to the series!
I simply cant wait for book 2 to come out! The tension, the found family and the whole world was just perfection.
The side characters were well written and easy to fall in love with, the world was well crafted and the banter was absolutly bantering. I just overall loved this book and cant wait to see what happens with the cliffhanger we were left with.
If you love a sassy FMC, a shadow daddy, and found family with some hidden identities then definitely pick this up!
Thank you to E. Arlyn and K. Emaline for the ARC copy!
I enjoyed this book. I was engaged from beginning to end!! The banter… OMG… had me tickled!!! There were twists and turns all throughout the book! At one point, you think you know what’s going to happen, and then you don’t! It’s certainly a slow burn. I need to know what happens with Evren and Nox!!! And Hayes?? Damien?? The only reason I didn’t give this book a 5 star is because the ending felt rushed and left me confused! So much was happening with so little time left. I’m sure there is going to be a book two, because the ending left me wanting more! I certainly recommend this book!! A strong 9/10 read!!
ARC Read - this might actually be one of my fave reads of the year Jesus Christ!!!
What an amazing start to a series. The character development for all characters, the FMC is an absolute badass, the MMC is to die for iykyk, hello new book boyfriend! The found family ) side characters are so brilliantly set up!
The twists and turns of the plot just keep coming, the surprise reveals, the CLIFFHANGER!!!!
If you love, meddling gods, multi POV, slow burn, love interests not wanting to be love interest, he falls first, prophecies and just an addictive book you need to pick this up 🥵😍
It’s a messy, emotional, glorious of a book. The story is big, the world is rich, and the feelings hit hard you’ll laugh, ache, and rage right alongside Evren. It doesn’t always balance its many plot threads perfectly, but what it lacks in polish it makes up for in heart. It does have “sweet and spicy” scenes but it focuses more on the story and emotions. If you want high‑stakes fantasy with a heroine who’s trying to claw back her life from fate, this one will leave you gut‑punched but glued to the page.
This book is a darkish romantasy with found family, magic, gods and secrets. I really liked the characters and the story itself. Evren, the FMC, is an assassin who would do anything for her freedom. She had great chemistry and banter with Nox, the MMC. He is perfectly broody. There are a lot of turns in this book and some are twistier than others. I do think the book was a bit overly wordy and at times overly descriptive, but I really did like it overall. The ending was wild. I definitely want to read the next book to see what happens next.
The slowest of slow burn known to mankind yall and I’ll admit, I had fun with their banter. There were some interesting power dynamics at play with gods, magic and high stakes. And while that was all an interesting take, unfortunately it wasn’t for me. I found myself setting it down more often than I wanted to. I wasn’t particularly keen on the writing..between the gaps in the story and eye rolling moments, I found myself confused like I’d missed something. And the ending felt rushed. We were right in the thick of everything and then bam, it was just over. Still, a solid concept at the core.
I received an arc copy of the book from the author via bookfunnel in exchange for my honest review
I love how this book has gods and kingdoms in it. There are hitman in the sense that they kill people who do something wrong. I am finding the book at one point very confusing as there seems to be a lot of characters. I have actually enjoyed this book, I wasn’t sure if I would or not. I loved the battle at the end of the book. Overall I enjoyed the book.
These Deadly Sins is a slow-burn captivating romantasy that centers on Evren, a sharp-tongued yet emotionally layered assassin who takes on a dangerous mission to suppress a growing rebellion in a neighboring kingdom in exchange for her freedom. The story unveils one secret after another, delivering moments that are both shocking and emotionally intense. The ending left with so many questions. Looking fwd to book 2.
Evren has spent her life working for her freedom. Being a weapon and a stealthy assassin for someone in exchange for taken her in and training her. When the opportunity comes up to try to get her freedom with what may be an easy task she takes it. Things are not always what they seem and nothing is ever as easy as it seems. This story draws you into a different kind of world with plenty of action and many twist you may not have seen coming.
Give me a dark fantasy with assassins, shifting loyalties, and morally gray chaos and I’m instantly locked in.
Evren is a lethal, take no nonsense spy/assassin who starts questioning everything she’s been taught? Watching her navigate that shift and reclaim her agency was so satisfying.
Nox is a shadow daddy with layers on layers. Secrets, emotional depth, and a presence that pulls you in whether you’re ready or not. Let's just say I enjoyed the pull.
The world building is rich and immersive, with mythology adds to the story without weighing it down.
And the found family? Absolute chaos in the best way. They brought the perfect balance of humor to an otherwise heavy world.
And ok… that plot twist AND that ending?? Rude. Painful. Personal. Why did you feel the need to hurt me like that? I will absolutely be showing up for book two.
I read this book as an ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book was fantastic. It has magic, a delicious shadow daddy, betrayal, found family, secrets, and an ending that makes you want to immediately pick book 2. I cannot wait for the next book. The MMC is delicious and the side characters are incredible. If you love an assassin FMC with a smart mouth and huge ego, this is the book for you!!
One of the best books I have read! It has a perfect mix of fantasy and relatability. I have been on a long reading dates and I was able to get through this and enjoy every moment of it! Congratulations to your first book! It’s fantastic and I can’t wait to see it all that it brings!
