Jonah spent his entire life raised in a human-only community with anti-supe family members trying to brainwash him, to no success. When his father demands he get off his computer and go get a job, he knows accepting a job at a supe-run temp agency is risky, but he’s determined to experience the world and finally see what he was missing. He didn't expect his first assignment to be at the largest supe-run company in the world. Maybe he should have considered asking for a smaller assignment for his first supe experience. Werewolves don’t eat humans, right?
When Emmett notices a nervous human at Spellbound, it’s his job as a member of security to ensure he feels safe. It has nothing to do with thinking the easily startled human is adorable and smells delicious. Out of the kindness of his heart, he offers to be the human’s authority on all things supe, answering all his questions and giving Jonah a safe harbor while he learns. When the adorable human starts receiving some unwanted attention and mentions a fake relationship to give himself a buffer, Emmett is happy to play along. Fake dating should include actual dates, though. Right?
Jonah has no experience with supes, Emmett is the Supe Guru Extraordinaire, texting is their love language, getting hit on by supes is a little much for Jonah, Emmett volunteers as tribute, dates include kisses, and maybe some other stuff, Taron decides to adopt Jonah, Jonah thinks he’s joking, who’s going to tell him?, Emmett gets growly, Jonah finds out what it’s like to be claimed by a werewolf, guaranteed HEA.
Once again, I enjoy the world and the romance is very sweet.
It's pretty Insta love. They go from strangers to mates in a month.
Jonah's family is pretty toxic and that's sad. I love the found family aspect of this and there is nothing more satisfying in this book than the puppy pile!
Taryn is one of my least favorite characters of the series. He is manic and chaotic. I wish the author would stop featuring him so much. However, even though I don't like him very much, the scene where he comforts Jonah and confirms that he really does want to adopt Jonah… He is actually pretty darn awesome in that scene.
Emmett is adorable and I love his tail signaling how much he likes Jonah. I had a little bit of the ick that he looks so much like a wolf. He's not a shifter; he's a man sized wolf man. And I just couldn't get on board with the licking and the fur. I know I read books about Minotaurs but somehow the Wolfman was just a little too far for me.
These two were fun, Jonah's first family was horrible, and I didn't need the but mostly, I'm glad the author has a spinoff series planned, because I'll happily read as much in this world as she wants to give us!
Another one great book from this series. This one might be my favourite. I loved all these books, cuz they are just so cute and mostly light with plot to drive everything going. This one hit different at least for me. The common denominator for this series is found family and here it was done to perfection. Jonah was so sheltered from supe community, that he doesn’t know what to expect when he started his temp job at Spellbound, but thanks to Emmet and supporting characters he found his footing. It was so good to watch their romance bloom - it was funny and sweet and CUTE I swear cute aggression is real and lives in this book in spades. When things get bad and Jonah spends his first night on pack land…the puppies, that was cuteness overload 🫠 Few words about Emmet, cuz he was the best, he is the cinnamon himbo we all need in our life, omg best book boyfriend material. What to expect from this book - found family! This trope was so perfectly executed here. Loved it, every second 💯recommend
I was a little shocked to discover "werewolves" in this world aren't shifters. They are fuzzy and have wolf heads all the time. There is no "deputy". The werewolf's mate is a human tech nerd, while he is in security.
There is plenty of fun conflict and found family shenanigans. The sex is a little weird, since werewolves have anatomical differences from humans. I spent a little too much time thinking, "but wolves don't have lips". If you're furry or like monster romances, maybe it won't bother you.
Here's Amy Padilla's "The Werewolf's Deputy" is the seventh novel in her latest series, Charmed Away Temp Agency.

And the official tags (because they're the best): ["Jonah has no experience with supes, Emmett is the Supe Guru Extraordinaire, texting is their love language, getting hit on by supes is a little much for Jonah, Emmett volunteers as tribute, dates include kisses, and maybe some other stuff, Taron decides to adopt Jonah, Jonah thinks he’s joking, who’s going to tell him?, Emmett gets growly, Jonah finds out what it’s like to be claimed by a werewolf, guaranteed HEA."]
My GOD did I love this book...even if it made me cry several times. This book was cuteness and fluff overload, plus all of the found family and new friends and pack shenanigans (I really hope we get a pack spin-off). Jonah and his sweet blushes and sassy replies. Emmett and his wagging tail. The puppy cuddle puddle. The picnic lunches. I can't.
Plus Taron being...Taron but so mature and so responsible.
This is one of the books (and the previous one in the series) that I would erase from memory just so I can reread it again.
Trigger Warnings: species-ism, toxic parents, men who can't understand 'no,' and more.
Through most of the book I have to say I was incredibly heartbroken and angry for everything Jonah had to go through with his family. Obviously everyone at Spellbound is incredible and supportive and incredibly caring, and they encapsulate for one of the best found family tropes I've read. I love how most of the mated pairs or relationships in this series are incredibly oblivious to their fate no matter how many previous examples there are. The only ones that get a pass are Avery and Ozen because they were the first or at least the first specifically at Spellbound after the temp agency was fully established. I was a little disappointed there wasn't a scene of realization and resolution with Kyle. Maybe he wouldn't have apologized but at least he could have been chagrined. I was also surprised there wasn't an answer for the 'antagonist' in the last couple chapters. I'm sure these scenes were set up to show how much Jonah was an integral part of the team and not considered temporary anymore, but I was assuming there would have been a correlation to a current or previous antagonist from the series.
The Werewolf's Deputy is yet another wonderful adventure into the magic of fate in the supernatural world. I loved the real kind of outsider ad lack of social experience we get from Jonah in this story, because it's definitely not something we've had the chance to explore before. Since this supernatural world is so vast and ever growing, it's hard to see any kind of successful life in the way Jonah was living before joining the temp agency & Spellbound. I really loved this story and I honestly hope this series never ends.❤️ I've loved each and every fated relationship we've been presented, and I love how they're all so truly different and unique.
*While still more extreme than others, I feel like this has to be Taron's tamest-ish book. 😂
I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
“You’ve got family here at Spellbound. Not the one you were born with, but the one that chose you, quirks and all. We chose you, Jonah. You belong with us.”
An absolute delight of a read. I squee'd and kicked my heels at the cute. It had banter, it had bad jokes, it had fake dating (but was it really??), it had protection, it had found family x2! I just...gah. Loved it.
When Jonah, a human raised in an isolated community filled with anti-supe sentiments/behavior, secretly gets a temp job with Spellbound (the largest supe based company?!) talk about 'go big or go home' lol. And while overwhelmed, is determined to do better, be better, and broaden his horizons. When Emmett crashes into him on day one, he's instantly charmed and offers to help Jonah feel safe and get comfortable!! Shenanigans, cultural missteps, and family drama occurs! But found family and community will win the day at Spellbound y'all!
Emmett and Jonah were great together. Emmett's big, kind heart and cuddly hugging abilities are just what Jonah, our love and touch starved human beeb needs! Jonah/Emmett felt almost a capsule love story, but we still got our cameos and sweet moments with our faves! Taron and Jonah had some moments that made me wanna happy cry!!
I think this is the last in this series, which makes me sad! But hopefully, we'll be back someday, somehow??
PUUUUPPY CUDDLE PILE!!! That’s it. That’s the pitch. That’s the hook. That’s the reason you need to drop everything and read this book right now 🐶💞
As always, Amy Padilla delivers pure GOLD with her Charmed Away Temp Agency series, and this time? She did not come to play. She served fake dating. She served scenting. She served knotting. A whole buffet of delicious tropes and I was eating every single crumb. The only thing missing was rut, but hey… not an omegaverse, so I made my peace with it (barely 😌)
The way he’s lingering way that sneaks up on you… but then It’s like being wrapped in the softest, warmest emotional blanket. I was smiling. I was crying. I was aggressively clutching my imaginary pearls.
And can we talk about the puppy cuddle pile again?! Because I am NOT over it. I will never be over it. It’s criminally cute. It’s soft chaos. It’s serotonin in book form. I wanted to crawl inside the page and live there forever.
✨ Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) 💖 Vibes: Cozy, spicy, heart-squeezing perfection 🔥 Spice Level: Filthy-sweet deliciousness 🐾 Verdict: READ. IT. NOW. OR REGRET IT FOREVER.
Consider me emotionally adopted by this pack. No take-backs.
All the couples, and the one throuple, in this series have been marvellous and now we end with a werewolf and his little human. Emmett and Jonah's story is just as good as all the others and I fell in love with them from the start. Seeing Jonah navigate Spellbound, meeting all the different types of supernaturals, watching him grow more confident each day while having Emmett on the other end of the phone to answer all his questions, was lovely. Seeing familiar faces befriend him was even more so. Kian, Peri, Avery and particularly Taron helped him so much and all their interactions just cemented in my mind how good this series has been. Emmett was so sweet with Jonah, just a great big waggy tail really, happy when his favourite human was near him and I loved him so much. His packmates who also worked at Spellbound too were so good to Jonah, and it was heartwarming to see him being treeated like Pack before either Emmett or Jonah even realised what was happening between them. Jonah's family were so horrid, especially in contrast to Emmett's large, loud and loving Pack. I really wanted something bad to happen to them but you can't have everything. I'm sad the series is at an end but at least there's going to be a spinoff series so I can't be too sorry.
I'm really sad that this series is ending - I love the world it's based in and the idea of a supportive temp agency being an accidental mate finding agency. I'm glad that we'll stay in this world a bit longer (I'm pretty sure that Amy is writing a spin-off series) because the world is fantastic and I hope we'll get to see some of the characters from this series again. I'll will admit, not all the books in this series have been my favourites (I still say Talon was done wrong) but this brought me right back to why I love this series. Jonah and Emmett were so good together and their relationship progressed in such a sweet, gentle way. The care Emmett showed for Jonah, the gentleness he showed him and the way he brought others around Jonah to show him that he had family (whether they were blood or not) was lovely to read. Jonah was a total sweetheart. The earnestness he had in wanting to be open and accepting of others was heart lifting. We live in a world filled with so much prejudice that it really felt hopeful to have a character refuse to accept bigotry and fight to move past a childhood of conditioning. I'm so glad we also got to see the other couples one more time before the end of the series. It left the series feeling complete - there was a real sense of wholeness and happiness to the end of the series.
- series - fated mates - paranormal - found family
I have really enjoyed this series, this is such a great world the author has created here, and I always look forward to going back into it and seeing what the next story would be. While this is part of a series with some recurring characters, it can be read as a standalone. I would recommend the other stories though as they are all good. Jonah is one of the few humans working for Spellbound and up to now has been led to believe all supernaturals are terrible and want to oppress humans. His family is toxic, to put it mildly and I really felt for him and all he went through. He was so brave and far tougher than he thought he was and I was so happy he landed with his found family.
I liked Emmett and his pack too, they were exactly what Jonah needed even if he didn't realise it. Their relationship develops quickly but it worked for these two, and it's often the way for mates (even if neither of them knew that). I loved Jonah blossoming as the story went on, finding a life, job and found family away from the toxic atmosphere at home. There is such a sweet HEA too. I've loved this series and the world and it's always a joy to go back in.
I received an advance copy and this is my honest review.
Jonah hasn't had an easy life. His family are straight out of a nightmare. His father insisting he get a job was the best thing to happen to him because the people at Spellbound are determined to bring him into their found family.
Emmett's werewolf pack has been hired to straighten out Spellbound's security team. When he comes to Jonah's rescue he agrees to help him with unwanted attention. He definitely doesn't find fake dating a hardship.
Jonah and Emmett start out fake dating but it isn't very long before it's the real deal. They're having a lot of fun together when trouble comes for Jonah again. Emmett isn't about to let anyone hurt Jonah.
I loved Jonah's open mindedness considering how he was raised. He was a sweetheart. I loved how he stood up to his family at his own expense. I loved Emmett just as much. He would do anything for Jonah. I liked how the found family at Spellbound rallied around Jonah to protect him; especially, Talon. Talon is his usual gregarious self but he showed a serious, sweet, loving side for Jonah that was what Jonah needed. I like how the series continues to build on world and character development and that the couples from the previous books always show up. I love this series. Highly recommended.
The latest in the Charmed Away Temp Agency is the story of 2 new characters, but we do get glimpses of old and trusted favourites, especially Kain and Peri. And, of course, Taron, the chaos monster. (I'd love to be adopted by him!).
Jonah is a human who lives with his very bigoted family. He's lived in a closed community, been home schooled and took a degree on line. Because he showed a little sympathy towards a supe family, Jonah's family ostracise him, making him feel like a pirah in his own home, having to pay rent and find his own food even though his older brother gets away with whatever he wants. Jonah is told to find a job and he heads to the Charmed Away Temp Agency, where he tells Morana that he wants to work with supes. He gets sent to Spellbound Corps, where he bumps into Emmett, literally! Emmett becomes Jonah's go-to person, to help him with all the questions Jonah has.
I'm not going to give the plot away, but Jonah's parents are terrible! It's a story of found family, both in the work place and in private.
Although this is a stand alone, it is best reading all the books in order - it's a lovely series and I'm eagerly waiting for the audio to come out!
This was lovely and adorable! I really liked Jonah and Emmett together as a couple and I love how warmly the pack welcomed Jonah (the scene with the puppies 😍 Omg my heart!). I also enjoyed how the situation with Jonah’s family was handled.
My favorite bit of this book though, was getting to see the whole Spellbound family together! The way previous couples from the series were weaved into this book felt seamless and was a really nice way to bring the series to a close without it drawing focus from Jonah and Emmett’s story.
I would like to give a particular shout out to Taron for how he shows up in this book! No spoilers but I will say that he’s one of my favorite characters from this series and that his appearance in this book really highlights why that is. At the same time, he fully maintains his crazy, annoying, chaotic-good tendencies. Of all the characters in this series I think he has been the one that needed the most deft handling by the author to fully realize him as a complex person who can be loved by the readers while driving everyone around him crazy on occasion. This book shows the culmination of that great work and it really pays off!
Sad this series is ending but so glad we’ll have more books from this word to look forward to!
Seventh in series (Charmed Away temp Agency), best if read in order. Paranormal. Fake dating. Fated mates. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV.
Sheltered from supernaturals, Jonah still knows better than to treat others badly, and he’s trying to open his experiences when he works for a supernatural temp agency. Emmett sees that Jonah is overwhelmed by all the new species he’s meeting and decides to help, and offering to be his fake boyfriend is not a hardship.
I really enjoy the strong found family that this series brings to every story, there are so many supportive characters that help the main relationship along the way. Sure, Jonah’s family is awful, but luckily he becomes adopted by a shapeshifter, friends with fairies and werewolves, and attracted to a cinnamon roll security werewolf that can’t help wagging his tail around Jonah. Both Emmett and Jonah are sweet and loyal and caring, so they are perfectly matched and couldn’t be cuter together. There’s some steam, some comfort and some romance with the strong community that this series has created. 4.5 rounded up

This book has everything I love in paranormal romance: small-town vibes, supernatural politics, emotional tension, protective werewolf energy, and a slow-burn romance that felt incredibly natural. The chemistry between Jonah and Emmett builds so well throughout the story, balancing emotional vulnerability with protective “touch him and die” energy PERFECTLY.
And honestly? The found family and pack dynamics made this feel so immersive and comforting even with all the danger lurking underneath.
Some favorite quotes:
“You don’t have to face this alone anymore.”
“He looked dangerous in the way storms did — beautiful right before they destroyed something.”
“Some bonds don’t ask permission before they sink into your soul.”

If you love emotional paranormal romance with strong chemistry, supernatural tension, and protective characters, definitely add this one to your TBR 🖤
4.25/5. This was probably one of my very favourite pairings in the whole series. Aside from the typical wonky bits, it was full of fluffy goodness, all of the found family vibes front-and-center amongst the fated mate angle and expected—and welcomed—shenanigans we’ve all come to love and demand. The amount of care and kindness and patience and gentleness Emmett held in his body was wonderful, and seeing everyone rally to champion and hold space for Jonah was perfect. I will cry if this was the last book in this world, because as much as some of the books frustrated me on some level or another, I loved the whole thing. The stories were everything good and comforting, and I will never not get behind fated mates who don’t just immediately fall into matehood like they’re not two separate individuals who need to learn how to be together. Everyone was strong despite their vulnerability, and weren’t looking for their mate to swoop in and save them or “fix” them. Good soup. I’m glad I read shorts and waited for this one to drop because it was exactly what I needed after some heavier reads.
"The Werewolf's Deputy" is book seven and maybe book last in Amy Padilla's Charmed Away series. Six couples, one triad, seven wonderful romances. Her Demons and Barbarians were quite enjoyable reads, but from book one, with Ozen and Avery, the Spellbound found family has totally blown me away. "Deputy" had so many bright spots. Eye rolling dad puns. Hovering and over protective werewolves. And, my favorite character.... evah... Talon, lord of chaos, as the perfect adoptive dad. There were also some not so delightful moments. Most of whom (aside from Kyle) require tissues. I was misty eyed when Jonah was evicted, which led to outright sobs when that pup climbed into his lap. As a series finale, there was one dangling plotline. The cyber attack. Perhaps in a few years, Ms Padilla will come back to Spellbound. In the meantime she's written a Charmed Away holiday novella, "Mistletoe and Mayhem". I received an advanced copy of this e book and this is my review.
Jonah and Emmett story was an interesting experience as it had some grief, misunderstandings and miscommunication, insecurities, shenanigans, teasing, and a rollercoaster of emotions. I loved seeing them bonding and teasing each other as they got more comfortable in each other company, as well as the awkward moments that were completely adorable. I loved seeing old characters and the shenanigans they made, as well as the support and help they offered. They had a couple of obstacles along the way, a couple of surprises and revelations, as well as danger and adrenaline. They were adorable together, and I liked their moments together even if there was some uncertainty that was lifted when the truth was revealed and clarity prevailed. I really liked the story and I had some characters that I hope will see more of.
The Werewolf's Deputy is the 7th and final book in the Charmed Away Temp Agency series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. This is the story of Jonah a human and Emmett a werewolf. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I loved these guys so much because they just fit perfectly together. I felt bad for Jonah because his family was so toxic. It was amazing watching this sweet couple building a relationship. I loved seeing other characters from other books in the series again. I have really enjoyed the characters and world building that has gone into this series. I really hate saying goodbye to this found family the series has created. I will miss this world that Amy Padilla shared with us but I look forward to seeing and reading whatever she writes next. I would definitely recommend this book and series. received a free review copy
I really enjoy the Charmed Away and Spellbound world. There are so many supe and character options, the author can just keep going! While there are some angsty moments or scenarios, for the most part, they are a sweet read.
In this story, Jonah has a rough month. Not only does he jump into the full supe experience head first, but he does it knowing very little about supes. Enter Emmett, a kind werewolf with a sense of humor. And puppy eyes. And a tail. As Jonah faces all kinds of challenges, he finds that chosen family can make the difference in succeeding.
Overall, another great story from this author, along with a lot of familiar faces from prior books. I'm looking forward to more mates finding each other!
I noted maybe a dozen proofreading issues in the ARC.
One of my fave in this series so far. A romance where they are truly friends and have lots of fun together—including consistent razzing. There werewolves were great, “werewolves love a birthday party” lol. They were the half-human-half-wolf style, instead of a human who transforms into a wolf. I don’t think I’ve ever read a story where a werewolf like that was an MC. The tail wagging was a hoot and the puppy pile gave me a new dream.
As always the coworkers were great. The baseball game was epic. They kept Kyle on way too long. I was wishing they had stricter sexual harassment policies until I realized that would have ruined the plots of these books. Talon was peak Talon and we briefly got to see all the old characters again.
It's Jonah's first day as a temp at Spellbound and he keeps running into a werewolf, Emmett. Emmett works for a security company who are updating Spellbound's security. Jonah, a human, has never been around supernaturals before and he is quite timid but Emmett makes him feel safe. Emmett is a big golden retriever type, though he wouldn't like the comparison to a dog, and is protective but easy going, and is attracted to Jonah. The attraction is mutual. It's hard to hide arousal when a werewolf can smell it. I love this series with the mix of humans and various supes. It is light hearted with little angst, a palate cleanser after dark romances. I received a copy of this and this is my voluntary opinion.
I really enjoyed this book, Jonah and Emmet are a great pairing. Jonah learns his own strength and he is one of my favorites characters in the series, with his ingenuity and big heart. Emmet is his perfect complement being his rock and paladin when Jonah needs it giving him the chance to grow and settle in his new world. Taron is amazing in this book, I loved him already, but he made me feel all the feelings here. As I expected, this book is well written, easy to read, not to spicy and has a very interesting plot. I love when a world grows with new stories that are really different to the older ones, and Amy Padilla is on her seventh book and each of them are original and with unique characteristics that made the series a great one. I recommend it heartily!
“You’ve got family here at Spellbound. Not the one you were born with, but the one that chose you, quirks and all. We chose you, Jonah. You belong with us.”
Gah!! Found family and fated mates are two of my biggest weaknesses. I think that is why I’m,I’ve this entire series so much. Taron is such a chaos gremlin. I loved seeing him so much in this story as he decides to adopt Jonah - both literally and figuratively. Emmett is such a big puppy and absolutely perfect. His pack and the family at Spellbound are the true family Jonah needs. This one has to be one of my favorites in this series which is saying something because they are all really good.
This is book 7 in the series and should be read in order. Jonah came from a family who was very anti supe. Even though he was home schooled, he did not carry the same beliefs as his family. Being hired as a temp for Spellbound, he was very jumpy when he started and ran into a wolf man. Emmett is a werewolf whose pack is part of the security. After bumping into each other a few times, Emmett told Jonah to text him if he had any questions on the supes he worked with. This is the start of their story of how they got closer to Emmett realizing they were mates. I loved this world and am so sad it is done. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
PNR, fated mstes, fake dating, hurt/comfort, found family Jonah's family is literally the stuff of night, horribly toxic. His father's insistence that he get a job and said job being at Spellbound is a blessing in disguise. He's one of the few humans working there and his misinformed belief that supernatural are all bad slowly begins to change, especially when Emmett saves him. Emmett and his pack are here to straighten up the security team and he immediately recognizes Jonah as his fated mate. It was wonderful to see Jonah blossom and find his true self. Emmett was so wonderful and patient, the whole team took Jonah under their wing and became his family.
