Wilder

A SHADOWS OF PEACE universe novel

Luca was shaped by the City. Trained to obey, conditioned to enforce, and taught that order was the only thing keeping humanity alive.

Then the Wilde forced him to see what the City never allowed him to know.

Recovering among the people he was raised to fear, Luca must learn how to exist in a world without ranks, chips, or permission.

A handful protect and accept him. A few tolerate his presence. But most Wilders watch him closely. Not as a threat, but as something unresolved. An uncertainty they haven’t decided what to do with.

As Luca heals, he is forced to navigate a world where accountability is personal rather than assigned, and where every action carries consequences he cannot predict in a place the City never choice. The Wilders don’t command him. They don’t own him. And that freedom is more unsettling than any threat he’s ever faced.

And as the distance grows between who he was trained to be and who he might become, one question begins to

If he is no longer a Prowler… what is he?

Wilder is the second book in the Prowler series, a character-driven dystopian science-fiction novel about identity, responsibility, and the quiet strain of trying to live by your code in a world that does not share your rules.

Nic Plume is a Writer in Progress, Sufferer of Wanderlust, Human Sidekick, who learned English from Dragons and is always in search of the next “wheeee” moment.
Born and raised in Germany, Nic spent most of her adult life married into the US Army life. English is her second language which she learned through school and refined through daily lessons with Dragons once she moved to the States (Ok, fine. She improved it through reading books, more specifically the Pern and Dragonlance series, but close enough!).
A question-asker and seeker of understanding, Nic explores the world and people around her. She currently lives full-time in an RV with her husband and German Shepherd, and travels all across the US. Always looking for the next adventure, she prefers the roads less traveled - and loves to startle her copilot with a well-timed “wheee” right before the water hits the windshield.
She’s always made up stories, but never had the urge to write any of them down until the idea and characters of ‘Shadows of Peace’ refused to leave her alone. Now she’s plotting along and typing away daily to give the voices in her head an opportunity to be heard and seen by the rest of the world. Her stories tell the triumphs, tribulations, failures, and pains of the human experience through a lens formed by her association with the military.

Book one, Prowler, was good. Book 2, Wilder, was great! Complex characters, more in depth world descriptors. Emotional highs and lows. Action tempered with time. This is a beautiful piece of literature, there are two things I could ask for,

1. where is Book 3!?!
2. A companion piece covering a certain missing time period.

No spoilers in this review, so I'll leave you with this: Nic Plume, thank you for a scifi done right!

I am not normally a sci-fi reader, when I read the first book in the series “Prowler “ by the fourth chapter I was hooked. It’s a story about the meaning of family, overcoming prejudices and change. Wilder is a continuation, strengthening the bond of family and strangers together .This book left me hanging I can’t wait for the third book to come out so I can find out what happens next .
