He’s stalking me. Obsessed with me. And he says he’ll never let me go.
From the moment I saw Ilya Sokolov across a busy sidewalk one Boston morning, I knew there was something between us. But I also thought it could be easily ignored.
I was wrong.
Back in New York, I assume I’ll never see him again. But then the gifts start. Small at first, and then escalating, until they become so frightening that I know his obsession has spiraled out of control.
But that’s not enough for him.
He’s watching me. Following me. Until one night, I can’t run from him any longer.
And now, this Bratva devil has vowed he’ll claim me as his. Forever.

Ilya and Mara were never supposed to be in each others worlds. But when a passing moment turns into a full blown obsession, Mara finds out just how far Ilya is willing to go to make sure she is his forever.
Y’all aren’t ready for this one! This book leans fully into the stalker romance trope, but somehow M. James writes it in a way that makes your darker side go, you know what…I get it and I support it haha.
“You’re really willing to go to war over a woman?” “I’m willing to go to war over this woman.”
Ilya is absolutely the man who yearns, and I ate that up. Watching him set aside parts of his Bratva life just to pursue Mara and prioritize being with her showed that, obsession aside, he knew exactly what he wanted and was willing to rearrange his entire life for it. Morally grey, absolutely, but also SO swoon worthy. Possessive, intense, and completely gone for Mara in a way that makes you melt even while questioning your own sanity for loving him this much. From the moment he sees her, it’s clear he’s all in, dangerous and obsessive, yet completely devoted to the woman he decides is his.
And honestly, what made this work so well was Mara. Because as much as Ilya is obsessed with her, there’s a darkness in her that matches his perfectly. Despite knowing how unhinged his behavior can be, she still wants him JUST as badly. The inner conflict she feels, trying to decide whether she should question her attraction to him or just give in, felt so real. Let’s be honest, my girl is fully color blind when it comes to red flags and we love her for it. She sees the crazy and goes yes please!
“You were meant for me,” he breathes against my mouth. “Made for me. I can never let you go.”
I binged this book and it was, as usual, very enjoyable. The combination of their hot/cold relationship, the stalkish ways Ilya courted her, it was all completely addictive. And before I end this, I just need to say…I am officially putting in my request for a Svetlana book next. I don’t even know how or why she got to me the way she did, but I felt so strangly empathetic toward her. She has such strong FMC energy, was likeable, and I can already see myself rooting so hard for her to get the kind of happy ending where she’s fully loved and truly chosen by someone who sees all of her!
M. James honestly never misses when it comes to writing these dark, addictive romances that somehow make you question your morals while still rooting for love to win. Devil’s Vow was all that and more.
There is push and pull, and there is this story… Mara couldn’t decide if she liked him or not, whether to cover for him or not, especially since she called the police and asked them numerous questions but hid the note or when she called the cops because she was scared but kept the rose. And when they finally got together, she was still undecided but had sex with him anyway. I know we women can be difficult, but Mara was something else, and Ilya didn’t help either, because for half of the book he was basically stalking her. In the end, he chose her and that was it…I am more interested in reading Kazimir’s story than I was in Ilya and Mara’s.
Oh wow such a brilliant read! I loved the obsession Ilya had for Mara.
Ilya sees Mara from afar and decides to claim her.
I liked the slow build of the relationship. The little gifts that escalate, the steps that close in, the treatment that goes from brutal to soft and Ilya's obsession turning to love. All very graphic and displayed so well that it plays perfectly in my mind.
But that chemistry they have once she is with him. As much as there is denial, there is connection.
Danger, drama and absolute suspense, this book was fantastic. I enjoyed the motive and the whole experience was so welcoming and compelling. I want more from this world. True delight!
“In fact, before my sudden infatuation with Mara Winslow, I was eager to start the process and get Svetlana Morozova pregnant with my child sooner rather than later. Not because I’m itching for heirs, but because the idea of filling such a gorgeous woman with my cum was enough to arouse me to the point of distraction”
Why do authors think it’s a good idea to inform us how the love interest was lusting after OW 🤢
Good read. A few situations and events seemed a bit contrived. Like, why didn’t Ilya just let Sergio know he was staying in NYC for an extended period? But then I guess there wouldn’t have been as much drama? Lots of typos and misprints. Does anyone proofread?
