This is EXACTLY what it looks like. You saw this absolutely adorable book cover and decided to add it to your tbr straight away. Because it's cute, and glittery and the characters are designed so beautifully, because it's that kind of aesthetic cover you'd LOVE to have in your physical library, right?

Well, that's exactly what the inside of this book delivered. Cuteness overload. It was so sweet and Carson being Julian's first for mostly everything felt so right for their narrative. First text, first kiss, first phone sex... It had the right amount of fluff I needed and not gonna lie, I might be a bit biased too, because I'm going through my hockey x figure skater/ballerino era where all I want is sports romance with height difference, pretty princess and his buff boyfriend, and cuddly & spicy scenes. And Carson? He was the best boyfriend for it, 10/10!! I can't describe how much I ADORED this man's patience and boundaries and care... he knows what boundaries are, I'm telling y'all.

And the most adorable thing in the world besides Julian's plushies collection? His crush for Carson. I was blushing along with him the entire time!!!

Bonus points for them being korean, personal preference but oh weeeell <33

I have to say Carson and Julian had my heart strings pulling every chapter, I really though I was gonna die from squealing to hard.
First I would like to thank Chérie for choosing me to receive an ARC, I feel so honored for this opportunity and to be my first I’m literally crying.

This whole book literally had me wishing and wanting it to be dual POV because I wanted into Carson head so bad and emotions. The want of this Man and the slowww burn literally had me dying. I saw it’s supposed to be a duet So Chérie I beg you, Carson POV we need🤭✨



Julian and Carson, they literally were so cute together and endearing I couldn’t stop smiling. The friendships , hockey team, I love it all.



I love how Carson got to understand Julian how he would reassure him and always remind of how amazing Julian is, that no matter how Julian perform he was more than his career. He deserved to be taken care of and be wanted.
Julian literally came so far by the end of the book I’m so proud of him. Sometimes it literally felt like what he was feeling and his actions towards situations hit so close to home. I’ve haven’t read a book that made me felt so seen in a way a character , as someone who is happy to be alone and hard to put ourselves out there. To be introverted. The way Julian started to own what he wanted and getting out of his comfort zone with Carson help has made his gain a Spark more brighter and I’m here for all of it. He deserves all the support, love and happiness. ✨They both do. ✨

**ARC REVIEW**

I thought this book was a great palate cleanser from the denser books I’ve been reading recently. The dynamic between the main characters had me screaming and giggling throughout the book. Reading the book it felt light and easy to process and follow along.

The growth Julian made throughout the book was so fun to watch, though there were times I wanted to scream at him to get his head together! Carson…be still my heart. He was so patient and understanding and respectful. I love him so much. The fun POV switch was refreshing. The inclusion of Korean culture was a nice touch to add some more depth between the characters.

Full disclosure I received an arc of this book to review and let me just say this was truly one of the best MLM romances I’ve ever read (and trust me when I say I’ve read a lot)! I absolutely LOVE the dynamic between Carson and Julian and how perfectly they balance each other out! I found myself just nonstop smiling at the love they have for one another🥰 Carson’s caring, patience, and genuine sincerity for Julian is just one of the many things that makes this book so incredible☺️ Their story is definitely one I’ll be remembering for a long time. I found Chérie when she first started posting on TikTok promoting her debut novel, and from the details she shared here and there I could tell this book was going to be good, and everything about it fully met and EXCEEDED my expectations! If you love a gay sports romance, a genuinely sweet love story, and definitely some good spice then this book is for you! I truly hope there is another book in the future to continue Julian and Carson’s love story☺️

So first off I truly think this would be a great YA book if the few “sexy” scenes were removed. It read like a young adult book and honestly I think young adults would love it!! The way Julian interacted with everyone it screamed 14 year old boy talking to his friends most of the time.

It was a super easy read which is nice but I never connected to either character. Julian was too whiny for me for him to be as old as he is and based on how Carson was he didn’t seem like the type to continue with someone so child like. There were definitely some good moments between them overall though. Again I think this would be perfect for young adults.

I did enjoy Carson not giving up on Julian and wanting to learn his real name, how he celebrated his birthday and overall just wanted to move at his pace and ensure he was comfortable with everything that was super sweet.

I liked that Julian was in therapy to overcome the issues he has about not feeling adequate to deserve the good things in life. I hope he continues to work on himself and to understand he can have all the good things this world has to offer him.

I wish the story had more details on his skating overall. I feel like we only got him going to practice all the time and then it was time for the competition and even that lacked luster…

It threw me off a few times for instance when Julian wanted to move things along with Carson and decided to send him sexy text. His friend said send something cheeky and he went and sent a sexy picture and video of him f-ing himself. It was so out of left field that it made the entire scene seem so weird because it didn’t fit. Then there was the scene with the birthday cake. I’m so here with Carson putting the cream and cake all over Julian and licking it off but then it said he used the cream as lube basically he was fingering him and that killed that scene for me because icing as lube? Nope not at all. Eeeeyuck.

For a debut novel it could use a little work overall with the depth of the characters themselves and more details between events. Things happened so abruptly that it took away from the story most of the time. The dialogue between the two MMCs just read too child like to me. Like being 14 and having your first crush. I know to Julian he didn’t experience things and Carson took a lot of his first but it could have been written in a more grown up way.

I know this is apart of a duet and I will read the second one to get the conclusion of their story.

Overall I truly think it would be better marketed as a YA novel-minus the sexy scenes. I think a younger audience won’t mind it since they have similar mentalities as Julian.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, though the writing style took a little getting used to at first. At times it felt a bit more reflective and slightly essay-like than story-driven, which made parts of the beginning feel a little dense, but once the characters and their dynamic started to develop it became much easier to get into.

One of the strongest parts of the story for me was the banter between Julian and Carson. Their back-and-forth was really cute and gave their interactions a lot of charm. Carson in particular was very easy to like he’s patient, sweet, and incredibly understanding. Even when Julian was distant or ignoring him, Carson still checked in and kept reaching out simply because he cared about him that much.

Julian, on the other hand, was a bit more frustrating for me as a character. He’s very inexperienced when it comes to relationships and doesn’t seem to have many close connections, which helps explain some of his behavior, but his communication skills were definitely lacking. Instead of talking things through, he often shut down and iced Carson out when he was upset. I understood why he felt hurt about Carson not mentioning that his ex played on the same team, but the way he handled things sometimes felt a bit immature for someone who’s almost 24.

That said, I did appreciate that Julian eventually recognized his behavior and apologized. Facing difficult emotions and situations isn’t easy, but it’s part of growing up and learning how to handle relationships better, so it was nice to see him take accountability. I really liked Carson and Julian together overall they were honestly adorable and had great chemistry, and Carson felt like the perfect match for Julian because of how patient and steady he was with him. Their relationship had a lot of sweet moments that made the story enjoyable.

The book leans into a familiar dynamic the shy, inexperienced character paired with the taller, more confident and experienced one so it isn’t necessarily groundbreaking, and the story itself is more of a soft, tame romance. That’s not a bad thing, but at times it did feel a little slow since not much dramatic was happening. I might just be used to darker romances where a lot of intense things happen, so this one felt quieter in comparison.

Overall, it was a cute and enjoyable read, especially for a debut novel. I didn’t quite love it, but I definitely liked it and think it has a lot of charm, and I’d give it around 3.5 stars.

obviously honest

First of all, such a stunning cover- love the color 😍
Than I loved the relationship dynamic between the two and the including of Korean culture and that the characters weren’t Americanized.

What threw me off a bit is that somehow I thought this was a YA and therefor wasn’t expecting any ✨fun✨ scenes but it wasn’t the overload but rather in the end.

I really loved the depth of the characters and that Julian really worked on himself with his counselor and tried to become a better and more deservend partner for Carson.

What I would’ve liked is if we would’ve gotten a scene were Julian talks openly to his parents how their reactions to his skating affected him and under how much pressure he put himself thinking they were disappointed in him if he didn’t succeed. But the book is rather short so I don’t mind that it’s not in there.

Then I LOVED Liam and Kevin but especially Liam. He was such a funny character and I think what Julian needed next to Carson obviously. I really like that he found himself turning to Liam for advice revolving around Carson so he wasn’t too alone.

Now why the book wasn’t a five star for me is just a personal opinion but.. The Cake scene in the end. I think it was Chapter 32 and well after the Farewell party for Julian who goes back to Korea for the Olympics.. they clean up and well first the food play start of rather normal with smearing cake over Julian but then Carson uses it as lube or at least it sounded like it and that gave me the ick 😶

But that is just a personal opinion so if you don’t mind that. It’s just something that I personally don’t really like to read about so yeah

Really loved the pace and I do believe the romance story. What I would’ve loved is Carson’s POV in certain situations because even tho he seemed like the golden retriever always wanting Julian to be happy.. I feel like I would’ve understood his actions and motives more if I would’ve been able to read from his perspective.

So if you’re in the mood for a short fun read, that doesn’t require too much thinking and is (or at least it was for me) rather predictable I think you’d really enjoy this book!

ARC Review of Melt His Heart by Cherie Angels

This was such a cute debut novel, I loved the idea of a MM book where a figure skater and a hockey player fall in love. Our MMC Juyeon, 'Julian', Song is a bit of an affection starved guy. A South Korean citizen, he’s 24 years old and training to qualify for a spot at the Olympics. Where does one go to find a great coach? New Jersey. The story is told from his POV where he meets Carson Young, a Korean-American, 27 years old and the successful captain of the hockey team that so happens to be the rink Julian will be using. Oh and Carson is the most handsome guy Julian has ever seen, will he fall for him? Probably.

This story runs at a decent pace, Julian and Carson form a tentative flirty friendship, where Carson does most of the flirting. The romantic burn is slow and steady as they navigate their undefined relationship for a good majority of the book but it was fun to see Carson work down Julian's walls with just a few plot twists to keep Julian on his toes when it came to dealing with the inexperience gap between them in both friendships and romantic relationships. All while Julian also struggles with the pressure of training and succeeding to place for a spot on the podium at Worlds, as well as being the sole provider for his parents back home.

Overall this was a quick and easy read, it was very low angst, sweet, and just a bit a of spice towards the end. I also enjoyed seeing the Korean culture sprinkled throughout the book as well.

A lovely debut for Cherie, and with a little more polishing her work is sure to shine.

When I first saw the edits about this story on TikTok, I was hooked. As a figure skating fan who also adores mm hockey romance, this sounded like actual catnip. And Cherie's edits were seriously so good, which gave me high expectations and a desperate need to love this book.

Well, I did end up devouring it that even if there were a few things that left me uncertain and feeling like some great opportunities were missed.

The premise actually drew me in but it was the romance that made stay and keep reading. I'm not going to lie, it was easy to get attached to the characters and see their chemistry and potential together even if the developing relationship seemed somewhat uneven at times. Still, Julian and Carson do complement each other and it shows early on in the story.

My main issue that made me drop one star was the sports worldbuilding. A lot of the timeline, competition details, and general setup felt confusing or underexplained, especially early on, and I kept wishing the skating and hockey sides had been developed with a bit more care. It didn’t ruin the story for me, but it did make it harder at times to fully sink into the world. Which is an important factor if someone picks this book up expecting to be met with detailed elements of what makes the figure skating world as cut-throat as it is.

I can't say it took too much away from the heart of the story, which made it work in the end. And the spice, while definitely not overdone, was hooot and actually fitting for two twenty-somethings who were obviously into each other.

All in all, this is a really enjoyable read and a debut novel with great potential for building on. I'm really looking forward to see where the author takes this story!

If you search for the coziest and fluffiest MM book to read during a lazy weekend then this is the book for you!

First of all…the cover? Love it so much!

Second, this romance between a grumpy figure skater and golden retriever hockey captain is one of the healthiest and natural relationships I’ve ever read. It’s written very realistically and beautifully, it will bring you to the high school years when many people experiences their first loves and dates.

In the story we follow Julian’s battle between building his skating career and enjoying what world has to offer. From the beginning Carson treats Julian with patience and is respectful towards his inexperience. He is definitely the most attentive and thoughtful book boyfriend most of us would wish to have by our own side. Even though Julian sometimes needs to take a step or two back, Carson is always there to support his friend no matter what.

The pace of the story was rather fast despite any unexpected plot twists. Sometimes a qualitatively executed romance is all you need. In the first part of the book we have a chance to truly understand Julian and his passion for figure skating. We got to meet his family and see the pressure he has put on himself for aiming towards his Olympic goal. His POV can help people understand how difficult it sometimes is to find a balance between career and personal life.

Overall this book is heavily focused on character development and healthy relationships. Absolutely recommend to anyone who wants to experience a true love.

Getting an ARC for Melt His Heart on my birthday was the highlight of my week. I’ve had this on my list for a long time and finally diving into it early was the perfect gift. It was exactly the kind of palette cleanser I needed to snap out of a reading slump. The pacing was elite for a four to six hour read and the whole vibe was just incredibly cute without being corny. What really hooked me was the dynamic between Julian and Carson. Their relationship felt so natural and grounded in reality, which made it easy to get invested in them from the jump.

I did have a couple of things that kept it from being a perfect five for me. I’m a total sucker for dual or multiple POVs and this book is strictly from Julian’s perspective. Usually that’s a dealbreaker for me, but the writing was strong enough that I didn't feel like I was missing out on what was going on in Carson’s head too much. There were also a few spots where the flow felt a little choppy, mostly due to some minor sentence transitions that didn't always land smoothly. It didn't ruin the experience, but it was noticeable enough to pull me out of the zone for a second.

Even with those small gripes, the book still managed to be a solid 4.5/5. The character growth for Julian specifically was handled so well, and seeing him balance his Olympic dreams with his feelings for Carson was really sweet. Plus, the spice toward the end of the book was absolutely amazing. It definitely lived up to the anticipation built throughout the story. I’m already locked in for whatever this author drops next and can't wait to see if we get more of this world in the future.

First, I want to clarify that English is not my first language. Okay, let’s begin.

Because of all the TikTok videos, the character descriptions, and some excerpts from the author’s writing, I had very high expectations for this book.

My main issue is that all the character development feels very superficial. We are told Julian’s story, but his depth as a character is never explored beyond the basics. For example, he grows up with unhealthy behavioral patterns, and the narrative only mentions that he goes to therapy. While readers don’t necessarily need a detailed depiction of that process, it’s frustrating that it seems like Carson helps him more than the professional he hired.

As for Carson, there is virtually no development at all. He feels more like a secondary character than a true protagonist. We don’t learn much about his life, and the book doesn’t really attempt to explore it either.

Although the book is categorized as a romance, it would have been amazing to get more context about both protagonists’ lives outside of their love story. What is Carson’s life like as an MVP hockey player? Why did Julian develop the way he did if, according to the book, his parents encouraged him to be more gentle with himself when he failed?

Positive aspects: the consent between both characters is well developed, and their chemistry is strong, even if their interactions sometimes feel a bit empty.

For a debut novel, it’s good, but it has a lot of room for improvement.

Melt His Heart is the debut novel by Chérie Angel, and I absolutely loved it. It was such a cute and heartwarming read. The story has a sweet slow burn that makes the romance feel very natural and endearing.

I loved both MMCs, Carson and Julian. They were so adorable together. Carson was especially my favorite. He was patient, understanding, and willing to do the chasing because he knew Julian needed reassurance. That dynamic between them was incredibly sweet.

I’m always a fan of the grumpy and sunshine trope, and this book delivered it perfectly. Their chemistry and emotional connection made the story even more enjoyable.

I especially loved Julian’s character development. He really grew throughout the story, owning up to what he wanted and learning to fight for himself. Watching him come to terms with the fact that he is more than just a figure skater was beautifully written and added a lot of depth to the story.

I also really appreciated the representation of Korean American culture, which was handled thoughtfully and added another meaningful layer to the book.

Overall, this was a wonderful debut, and I truly can’t wait to read more from this author.

Julian and Carson have completely captured my heart. Just the way they seem to be drawn to even if they barely talked.

When I originally heard the title a that it was about hockey player and figure skater, I just assumed that the hockey player would be the one with his wall up. But nope my feisty little figure skater was the one who had to be wooed. Carson is the definition of golden retriever. He literally followed Julian around just vibing for his attention and friendship.

I loved the slow burn aspect. It was done so well. Julian was a virgin, but he was also very inexperienced in general in relationships, and that conveyed so well in this book because little miscommunications or hiccups that seem like no big deal to people who are used to being in relationships, needed to be broken down and explained to him for him to fully understand. Not in a bad way. Carson took care of him emotionally in the best way. Slowly and with love. There was fighting and there was growing from both sides.

Julian’s friends/side character as well as Carson’s team mates really brought to the story and didn’t overwhelm the plot.

I could easily read 300+ more pages of these guys and their story.

🏒ARC Review ⛸️ This story was a cute romance between an outgoing hockey captain and lonely figure skater. I love the fact that they are a complete opposite of each other. Because even though Julian comes off as sassy and annoyed in all reality, he’s just lonely. And then we have Carson and he’s outgoing flirtatious everything that Julian is not. But when you get them together, you see how Julian opens up. Because he’s getting to experience new things he’s learning so much about himself. And that brings me to what I liked. The most about his character is he’s finally living for himself and not just skating. And I do like the fact that Carson is there almost every step of the way. With their relationship being the way, it was with not communicating. To me it brought them together more because that’s when they realized they need to open up have an actual conversation about how they really feel. Even though they can tell what they feel by looking at each other. And for their friends in this book, they are all supportive and helpful. And I like the fact that Julian is able to experience friendship now. And then there’s a cake scene and OMG! I just could not get enough of these two. The end you see them be happy, but you can tell their story is not done yet.

Let me say, as a debut author, Cherie, please give yourself a pat on the back. This book was amazing!! I loved the concept of having a figure skater and a hockey captain. It was so sweet having the dynamic of Julian, our precious Korean figure skater, and his amazing hockey captain, Carson, in this book; their chemistry was beautifully done for a perfect grumpy x sunshine pairing. This story was done in Julians pov, which I believe helped the story. Yes, it would have been nice to have Carsons pov, and I hope we get it someday, but this story had an amazing execution with showing the sides of Julians growth throughout the story. I also loved the cultural representation in this book. It was amazing seeing the Korean culture throughout their story and how it's an important part. The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is that the pacing at the end felt rushed, but besides that, i loved this book, and can’t wait to read more from our author and thank you for giving me a chance to read the book early.

I really really REALLY wanted to like this book. I pushed through more than I wanted to, because the idea of this book was everything I’ve been wanted. Figure skater x hockey player, one of them is so focused on their career and not looking for a relationship, but falls anyway. It had so much potential!

But, this unfortunately fell flat. This reads more like a high school romance in the young adult genre (minus some spice of course). These characters felt immature and were very one dimensional. I also would have liked to hear more about the figure skating in this book, all we ever got was that Julian was training. It left a lot to be desired :( And that’s not mentioning the structural errors in the writing of this book. It was extremely hard to figure out who was talking because you’d have a quote, then an indentation with another quote and it was the same person talking.

I think with editing this could be a really cute low angst book. And it still is if you can look past these mistakes! I just couldn’t push through it anymore!

A tender sports romance that delivers exactly what the title promises. Julian, a Korean figure skater training in New Jersey, has spent his entire career believing that anything outside of skating especially romance will derail his Olympic dreams. Enter Carson, the charming captain of the local hockey team, who slowly and patiently chips away at those walls.

The chemistry between them is the sweetest. Carson's persistent sweetness balanced with Julian's prickly, anxious energy is such a great mixed.

As an ARC, there are a few rough patches, some pacing lulls in the middle and conflicts that stretch a bit longer than necessary if I'm being honest, but the emotional payoff is satisfying.

But, bottom line the book is a solid, feel-good romance with heart, humor, and a satisfying conclusion. It's perfect for fans of sports romances and slow-burn dynamics.

It was everything I expected going into it—a feel-good romance that kept me smiling from beginning to end. The story had me kicking my feet and giggling at so many of the moments Julian and Carson shared. It’s the kind of romance that leaves you genuinely happy.

The dynamic between Julian and Carson felt natural and authentic. While Julian did frustrate me a couple of times, he was a sweet and deeply relatable character. His struggles felt real, and I appreciated how the story explored his decisions and the reasoning behind them.

That said, Carson completely stole the show for me. Every time he appeared, I couldn’t help but smile. He was caring, patient, and respectful of Julian’s space, while also bringing a perfect sense of humor that added so much charm to the story.

Overall, this was a delightful read and an easy 10/10 experience.

I received an ARC version of this book. In exchange, I'll give my honest review while taking into consideration that the version I read is not the final copy.

I really enjoyed this read. The characters are cute and fun. And I agree with some other reviews I've seen that have said they feel the book could have easily been 300+ pages. While the book doesn't necessarily feel unfinished, there are some questions I wish were answered before the ending. However, if the author has any plans to continue as a series then this book was set up fairly well. If not, I hope the final version includes those answers so that nothing is left up in the air. (Not gonna go into detail about any of the questions because I feel like other reviews have covered that).

Overall, I really liked this and will read the final copy whenever the author releases it. 💕💕💕

I had the honor of being chosen as an Arch Reader for this wonderful book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love how Carson was very patient with Julien throughout the book. Julien’s development throughout the book was so heartwarming. Carson constantly takes him out of his comfort zone to show him he deserves more.


My only complaint is that the book is too short. There are so many things that could’ve had more context. Ex. His relationship with his father, potentially meeting Carson’s family, how they deal with the distance while Julien is back in Korea, what their future looks like after the Olympics, and so on. This book could’ve easily been 300-350 pages.


Also LOVE Liam he made me giggle so much. I hope we get a book with Avery and Kane 😏 Also the spice was spicing 🥵 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

Figure skating x hockey is literally my kryptonite!!

This was such a sweet romance. It was fluffy, low-stakes, easy to read. Kind of a grumpy x sunshine. It wasn’t super spicy, but still had a good zing to it.

I do really wish Carson had POVs, I certainly felt the loss of not knowing what he was feeling. Though I do enjoy that despite it being a romance it centered a lot of Julian’s anxiety to perform well with pressure, and his lack of socialization experience. But still I wish Carson had gotten this amount of depth.

The grammar was a little wack. Specifically the dialogue spacing was really weird, and took me out of it constantly.

But really sweet debut, I’ll certainly read the second in the series. I’m happy I found this indie little read! I recommend it!

I really enjoyed this book! The plot centers around Julian, a Korean ice skater that moves to America to train. It’s mostly all in his POV, and we see his character develop through found family narratives and exploring himself romantically, outside of skating. Carson, the hockey captain love interest, is such a gentleman! Never pushy, always patient, just the sweetest. Very low angst, which can make the plot a bit boring, as well as some parts that get a bit repetitive with Julian’s character development, but overall I think it’s a perfect YA love story. I love how Korean heavy and culturally inspired it is as well!

Really nice book.
Good story and loved the characters although sometimes Julian gets a little whinny for my taste for apparently no reasons. He does get a nice character development though working on his issues and fears AND on himself.
Loved the Korean culture integrated thoughout the book and that they still mention their Korean names.
Their relationship is still really cute.
I don’t know if a second book is expected but I thought it ended kind of abrupt. I was waiting for a second epilogue with a “long term” update on their lifes but still liked it.
Woukd read a second book for updates on their lifes.

this was such an amazing read. i absolutely love julian and carson. their story is so fluffy and wholesome which isnt normally the type of book i read but i absolutely loved it.

the dynamic between julian and carson is everything. my favourite of the two would definitely be carson. he is just so patient and supportive. i also found julian to be very relatable (personally) and perhaps thats why i love carson🙂‍↕️

overall this was such a great read. my only critique would be the length...I NEED MORE😭 their love story is actual chefs kiss. i hope to see more of them in the future👀❤️

this was a really cute story. I really liked the black cat x golden retriever vibes and the growth of Julian’s character. as a debut novel, I think Cherie Angels did well with building up the relationship between Carson & Julian. I think the pacing towards the end felt slightly rushed, but still enjoyed it nonetheless. I would have loved to see more of Carson’s POV too!

I really enjoyed the simplicity of this story, it wasn’t overly complicated and could be a very realistic relationship. There is some miscommunication that occurs, if that isn’t your thing but it wasn’t enough to deter me from the story.

These 2 have potential for more books and I hope that is the case, I’d love to read more on them.

It was a refreshing quick read, definitely something that I needed!

I was so honored to be chosen as an arc reader.Im more of a silent reader and I don’t really make reviews but this was such a good book. I loved the plot and their dynamic and literally everything about it. I loved seeing how patient Carson was with Julian and how he was obsessed since day one. And I always love me some good side characters, Liam was So funny I loved when he appeared and was trying to help Julian. I can’t wait for more of the authors work.
