“Secret Code of the Magicians” is an awesome book. I loved it!!!!
Even though this book is actually the third in the “Magical Ventures of Loli and Lenny” series, I think that it is very much independent of the other, first two books- Trumpets in the Wild and Fury of the Primates, and can be read exclusively in itself. I am an eleventh grader, and yet, this book did not fail to capture my interest and ‘ensnare my senses’. (quote by my favourite character Severus Snape - almost).

Loli and her cousin Lenny, the delightful duo never fail to amuse me and I really like this concept of the author- showing, rather than telling, about their relationships, fights, disagreements and then making up, and all the problems that they go through, which, all in all, was very realistic and that with which I could relate to.

Jonix and Saby prove to be great souls among a sea of hostiles and show that goodness can also exist among all the evil, and eventually, conquers it. Heeya and Pahee reveal a previously unknown secret and the kids are shocked beyond their wits, but in a good way. Kiora is very authorative and at the same time an awesome aunt. Atsumi, a cute Japanese girl, accompanies Loli and Lenny in this adventure along with Duke, the ever-hungry squirrel. Lilianna’s poems are beautifully composed – I loved to read them. Especially her version of the “Hush Little Baby” along with the other two poems that help the little adventurers set the code right which is the ‘Secret Code of the Magicians’.

The unravelling of the Code was the ultimate icing on the cake! It kept me at the edge of my seat- almost in a nail-biting frenzy. Truthfully speaking, I couldn’t really break this code myself, rather, I read Loli, Lenny, Atsumi, Duke and Jonix do it themselves. It really kept me hooked and in a suspense mode, wondering what would happen next. Aliens, leprechauns, magic, levitation, teleportation, witches, wizards – this book has it all!

It's more like 2.5 stars.

I was asked to read this book by the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book is about two cousins, Loli and Lenny, who find out that they can perform magic. However, they find out that someone has messed with the Secret Code, which can diminish their power. They end up going to magic school, and it is their job to solve the puzzle to put the code back together, so the magic will stay intact.

The storyline reminded me of Harry Potter in a way, which I thought was full of adventure. However, I wish there more character development because I felt like there were several characters thrown into the story, and I didn't know who they were or much about them.

I also wish some of the scenes were more cohesive with the story because I felt like I came across some random surprises that didn't fit the story well.

This was my first time reading a book by a self-published author, and I was pleasantly surprised on how I liked the book for the most part.
