Purchased for Pleasure

Rate this book
Trapped by slavers and sold to a horrible creature who guards him like a treasure, at first Clove desires only freedom. His very nature revolts at the prospect of being deflowered. But everything changes when the impossible comes to a revelation that his captor isn’t all that he seems, and that Clove’s desires are also transforming.

Something is budding inside of him that makes him reluctant to run away.

Ensnared by his captor’s mysterious allure, Clove is equally tempted by two opposing impulses—his dream of freedom, and his need for the man who has purchased him for pleasure.

Throughout the story I was nearly appalled by my non existent repulsion at the obvious no-this-is-not-"only"-dubcon... but yeah it's high fantasy co-written by Daniel May, so I didn't mind. Not my favourite I thought, but overall ok.

Then happened the epilogue, and I loved to be surprised in the best way.

4-⭐

This was the cutest, sweetest weird little sex-slave dubcon book with like two dozen sexual fetishes stuffed into it:
I might have forgotten a few, but one might get the idea.

Well written, but I feel like I would have probably enjoyed an expanded version more. The beginning had a slower pace and it was excellent. Similarly there could have been varying sex scenes more evenly spread out, and not just two filled with all the kinks in earth. This is still definitely a good one and a recommendation from me.

Not only is the premise interesting, but the beginning is also intriguing and drew me in. Clove is an interesting character and we get some character development, but about one third in it turns into dragon smut. Don’t get me wrong - with this title I was hoping to get good smut (and did). The spice is super spicy and I love how Clove lowers his defenses more and more throughout. I enjoyed how gender was presented and how fluid it was and also just really enjoyed Clove as a character. The emotional payoff really comes in the epilogue *tears*. I loved it!

Audiobook update: I enjoyed listening to this story even more than just reading it as I noticed more of the details and the emotions throughout (this is neurodivergent thing, not a flaw in the book). The narration by Michael Dean was fantastic! So glad I read this again!

This is a smutty, morally-at-least-grey fantasy short story. Definitely read the trigger warnings if you consider reading it as one character is magically brainwashed into accepting the intimacies. The unique physical traits were interesting though. I would have enjoyed a little more story and a little less smut and maybe a little more depth to the ending. If you're in the mood for dark smut this might be for you.

Weird dragon smut very much in line with what I've come to expect (and love) from Daniel May. Their writing clearly blends well together but May's voice is stronger in my opinion. It just needed longer to explore all the plot points it brought up. As another reviewer said, if this is a teaser for something larger then it works but on it's own it's not enough.

Ooooook, I ended up loving this.

When I read the blurb I was intrigued, and then when I started reading the book I didn't know what to expect, I kept waiting to see where this was going and OMG I was not disappointed. Miss Piper I will never doubt you ever again, I am sorry.

This one is basically smut on smut, but the whole idea and who the characters are made this perfect.

When I finished the book I wanted to scream because... what do you mean it is over? I need more from these two. I need at least 2 books about them, the before and the after.

I loved it.

This packs a high amount of smut into a short story/audiobook.
It's a dragon / OV between a slave and his captor in a dark fantasy world.
Size difference, extra parts, body modification, and morally grey dub-con.
90% smut, but a surprisingly sweet connection forms too.
The tones of the narrator are great at separating captor from slave, and I enjoyed the possessiveness, authority and passion.

What was this book? This was a wild ride and did not at all go in the way I expected. I definitely want more. How is it over already? I need to know more about their past and what brought them to this point. How exactly it works for Clove. I loved this but now I just want so much more.

Basically dragon smut but I was here for it. I enjoyed it but it would’ve been great if it were longer and we had a little more story with the smut.

Also, the narrator kept pronouncing the possessive form of the MC’s name as Cloves’s, instead of Clove’s.

I’m a total slow-burn enjoyer, so this romance sadly didn’t land for me as I expected. Still, the smut was unapologetically bold and so spicy~!! the descriptions of the body changes, physical reactions, and sensations were incredibly vivid, too. Ultimately, this works best if you’re looking for a quick, high-heat read where the fantasy biology and the insta-love/fated mates elements take center stage.

this was a bit dark, kinky little novella, the premise had me really curious & i enjoyed many elements of the story💖

there was magic sprinkled into it which i loved!! magical vines that are used in creative ways(👀) are always fun! but there was also some more unique elements too, like magic tattoos..👀 honestly the world the authors created seems really intriguing, i'd love to exlore more of it!!

gotta also love a possessive obsessive dragon too who would do anything for his beloved treasure❤️‍🔥 Sobell was a fun character, very confident & protective, some might even say a bit arrogant but that's just because he was a total simp for Clove! among other things...👀🤫 i loved Sobell's devotion, and i ended up really feeling for him, i must admit. there were some secrets & little twists that added some mystery & intrigue too. and gotta add that the dragon actions were reallyyy hot🔥🔥🔥🫠🫣

It didn’t just want Clove—it was starved for him.

God, 80 pages is not enough for the plot this book is teasing.
Spoilers, I guess?
But owner/slave dynamic becoming a fated mates/reincarnation thing can’t be done in such a short time, especially when you’re only using smut.
Sooo much wasted potential for slow burn, hate to love, yearning and pining, Clove slowly remembering and Sobell making him fall all over again.

“Do you see now?” the dragon asked in a voice thick with arousal, yet somehow edged with tenderness. Coaxing. “See how you want it? How you can’t help but beg for it, beg for me?”

As for the erotica aspect, it was almost hot, but got lost trying to get there.
The atypical anatomy wasn’t much of a surprise, especially if you’re familiar with Wyn or Moth, and as for the double dicks they would’ve been more fun if they’d remembered there were two after the DP. The smut wasn’t bad, it was just so typical of the genre and redundant, all fucking and cumming and a thousand orgasms in one night.
What could’ve made this read different was that plotline, but not in an erotica.
At this point, it should’ve just been a dragon shifter omegaverse erotica without the extra frills. It would’ve made me less irrationally irritated.

If this is just the teaser for a much bigger project, then it’s great. Lots of promise for a cool smutty fantasy. If this is the book…. very disappointing.

“Everything for you,” the dragon promised. “Everything.”

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

CW and NSFW info (spoilers):
- Dragon shifter
- Atypical anatomy (kind of like a cock pocket)
- MC w/ two dicks
- Virgin MC
- Dub-con
- Body transformation
- DP

“Everything for you,” the dragon promised. “Everything.” Its voice was full of lust. Obsession.

Clove is snatched off the street and sold to a beast who wants to use his body for pleasure. As a virgin, and formerly independent person who didn't want to be purchased by anyone, Clove doesn’t like this idea. At first.
As the dragon groaned and dipped its head while that pleasure took hold, Clove was filled with a strange sense of pride. He was the one making the dragon feel this way. Him. His virgin body.

I’m not sure how to review this book. It really seems like the outline or first draft rather than a complete story. The word nothingburger came to mind as I was reading, and that’s not a word I think I’ve ever used before. There was a tease of an intricate story with magic, runes, fae, dragons, a society where it’s normal to buy young homeless men for pleasure etc… but the whole story takes place in 2 relatively isolated locations. The world building is a vague outline of all these cool elements that are introduced and then left unexplored. My favourite part of the novella is the magical sentient flowers depicted on the cover, another element that’s just kind of there and interesting for the smutty part of the story. It was a relatively unsatisfying read overall... mostly bland erotica. I think the blurb led me to believe that this was something more. I hate to say it, but I feel like I wasted my time.
Clove had never felt so loved in his life.

I have read one book by Piper Scott in the past that wasn't for me personally. I’ve read many books by Daniel May and have enjoyed most of them. Their writing blends well together, although after reading so many Daniel May books, his writing is easy to pick out for me and his style seems to dominate the book. The book was put together well, with no errors or continuity issues that I noticed. If you like dark romantasy and go in expecting a quick, smutty read you might love it.

Story = 4 stars
Narration = 5 stars

Clove after growing up living on the streets was caught and held captive by Elves by both force and by magic. He was a virgin and was sold to a male dragon shifter to be his mate.

I don't usually read dark romance and I never read fantasy especially books about a dragon but I have read and loved a few of Pipers Omegaverse books so I decided to give it a try.

This was a quick read/listen and I really enjoyed it which surprised me. What we are given was well written and I enjoyed the MCs. It is very morally grey so read with caution but for a MC that is basically an enemy who bought a s slave and described as a scary dragon, he was actually really nice and seemed to care for Clove. Of all the people that could of bought him it was the best outcome of a bad situation. It's the kind of book where I wasn't sure how to feel about it. On the one hand Clove is being held by a spell/brainwashing and it felt wrong to enjoy it but then Clove was being cared for and said he never felt so loved in his life. Both MCs seemed content to stay in each other's company and it was super steamy and Clove seemed to enjoy himself for the most part despite his circumstances so it kind of wins you over in the end as a romance. Especially because there is a plot twist in the epilogue that makes you feel alot better for enjoying it.

I can't rate it more than 4 stars simply because it felt like we were given a portion from a bigger story. Though I found the MCs likeable we aren't given much character development and there is basically no relationship development but it was good for a quick dirty read if that's your thing.

Purchased for Pleasure by Daniel May and Piper Scott was appreciatively provided to me as an advanced listening copy from Gay Romance Reviews and the authors themselves, in reciprocity for my honest review. Now, this is one of those romantasy books where I need to listen to it more than once. First from confusion, because there was a lot going on for my non-fantasy reading mind. Body parts were going everywhere! Then because of the low-key romantic element, which I wasn't expecting at its extent.

Our MMC Clove lives in a world where elves, magic, and dragons exist! He was bought by Spell, someone who uses him for his own pleasure as well as Clove's. At first Clove resists because all he want is to be free. But then the spice starts spicing, and Clove is now a slave to the pleasure he feels from his captor. So many different sex organs were used, my eyes definitely widened, and my mouth left agape.

Yet, that's how you know the book is good! At least in my opinion. Michael Dean's narration was perfect, considering he voiced both slave and captor. Two distinct tones, such as the captor's authoritative bass, and the lust and passion felt from each character. So, so good! The epilogue was more than I could ask for and made me want more. Hopefully, the authors will write more from this world where these two found each other, to live and to love.. 4⭐

Purchased for Pleasure by Daniel May & Piper Scott is a short, very smutty, morally-grey fantasy read...definitely check the trigger warnings before going in. One character is magically brainwashed into accepting intimacy, and the consent issues are front and centre. If dark smut is your thing, this might be for you.

The premise is basically the whole blurb: Clove is captured by elves, then bought/rescued and wakes up in a rune-covered magical bed. From there, it’s mostly spice (and a lot of it), with some pretty wild fantasy elements. The unique physical traits and non-binary fantasy anatomy were interesting, and I liked that it pushed beyond the usual binary/ternary dynamics you often see.

That said, while some moments were emotionally heavier than I expected...Clove’s fear and desperation at the start felt raw and real...I wanted more story around the spice. The scenes are very detailed, but there’s not much build-up or aftermath, and the ending could’ve used a bit more depth.

Overall, it was interesting, very spicy, and darker than your average fantasy romance. I’d be keen to read more from these authors for the world-building and emotional development, even if this one leaned more smut than story for me.

Clove and Sobell 🖤

Sooooo this was interesting and confusing? That’s the best way I can sum it up.

This felt like I was out of the loop of some bigger picture. It was so much inner monologue and description, but at the same time I felt like it wasn’t explaining the world and situation they were in.

The ending was super sweet though. I would have liked to see more of them after Clove’s memories. If this was a prequel, I would say it’s an interesting start. If this is a standalone novella, it was a bit lacking.

PURCHASED FOR PLEASURE is a short standalone story (or so it appears) that gives you a lot of spicy scenes and not much else. The blurb is basically the whole story.

The story begins with Clove being captured by Elves. He is bought/rescued by 'someone', and wakes up in a magical bed with runes all over him. This is the first dub-con part. You get a dragon with two d!cks, a magical vine that turns into a sound, and lots more.

This story was interesting in that it crossed borders that aren't usually mentioned, and I like that it offered an alternative to the binary or ternary that are usually mentioned. Saying that, although it was hot, I would have preferred more of a story to it. The spicy scenes were very in-depth, but you get little to nothing before or after.

I would be happy to read more by these authors to get more of the world-building and build-up to their stories. 3.5 rounded up.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I liked the writing style, found the basic idea interesting, and the beginning was a little different than I expected.
Clove has been sold to a creature by slave traders and is constantly guarded. He undergoes some character development, though it isn’t very extensive given the very short length of the audiobook—just one hour and 44 minutes.
I thought the beginning was pretty good, as was the plot, which is definitely suspenseful. The erotic scenes are steamy, and the ending was a pleasant surprise.
Still, I would have preferred it if the ending hadn’t been so abrupt and if the story had been fleshed out a bit more. The story was kind of cute, but also a bit bizarre. Nevertheless, it kept me well entertained; there were some kinks, and I found the audiobook enjoyable.
The audiobook was narrated by Michael Dean, and as always, he was simply fantastic. It was a pleasure to listen to him—he has a pleasant reading voice, conveys emotions very well, and the steamy scenes are exactly that: steamy. Michael did a great job, as always!

A short read that packed far more emotion into it than I expected. The premise immediately sets a dark tone with Clove captured and sold and desperate for escape. His fear and revulsion feels raw and convincing and single-minded focus on freedom make complete sense, which makes the shift in his feelings all the more compelling.

What I enjoyed most was how the story slowly unsettles your assumptions. Just when I thought I understood the dynamic between Clove and his captor, new layers emerged. The tension between fear and desire is handled well; Clove’s confusion and reluctant curiosity feel authentic rather than forced. Watching something softer begin to grow beneath the grim circumstances gave the story surprising depth.

I did find myself wishing for more insight into Sobell. His mystique works in the story’s favour, but a few glimpses beneath the surface would have made the emotional payoff even stronger. That said, the chemistry between them is undeniable, and the ending left me satisfied.

Right from the start, I was impressed by the authors’ note about cultural norms and differences in the book. Despite being a short read, it was packed with engaging content. Initially, I thought we were going in a direction where people were kidnapped and sold as pleasure slaves, which isn’t usually my preferred genre. However, I remained open-minded and was pleasantly surprised. As the authors had mentioned, it was different from most omegaverse books, yet it still managed to be incredibly sexy. The plot twist was well-crafted, leaving me curious about the potential for more stories with these MCs. I checked both authors’ profiles, but I couldn’t find any information about upcoming books or if this was part of a series, possibly a novella. I wish that was the case because I’m thoroughly hooked. I experienced a wide range of emotions within less than 100 pages, which is a testament to the authors’ writing skills. Kudos to both of you! Please continue to write more!

I knew this book was going to be spicier than I usually read. Super spicy books usually are headphone only listens, but I can’t use them at the moment. This is the reason I listened to this in the middle of the night when everyone else is asleep.

This is spice almost from beginning to end and it has just so much contained in such short of a story. There are so many kinks, plus dub/non-con aspects, a monster, magic, body mod… Also set in a darker omegaverse fantasy world.

This was a good audiobook. Easy to listen to with a fairly fast-moving story and a bit of a twist at the end. I wish this were longer though. There were hints of a lot of things at the beginning and end that I wish were explored more since they sound interesting and are things I would like to read more of.

Michael Dean performed this audiobook quite well. There are some areas where edits are a bit distracting but there aren’t many of them.

I've read/heard my fair share of smutty omegaverse romance but my eyebrows rose so many times listening to this audiobook, you'd have thought I had a perma-raise courtesy of botox.

But chalking this story up to dripping in dragon smut (and fair warning, a boatload of dub-/non-con) both undersells the habanero-level heat and diminishes the unexpectedly unique (albeit rushed) time-bending fated mates reincarnation HEA love story at its core.

It's those added layers and the deep world-building potential that left me wanting much more of this story. In the end, particularly with the curtain pullback-esque epilogue, it felt like being served plate after plate of spicy meat (!!!) but no appetizer or dessert.

I have no idea if this book is meant to kick off a series but credit to the authors for dangling that carrot of possibility because I'm here for it.

I was intrigued by the concept of Clove and Sobell's story, but between the drugging perfumes and the magic sigils I could never get past my worry that Clove wasn't truly consenting to what was happening to him. He melted from a fighter into a plant lover too quickly for me to buy into it. The steamy bits were incredible, don't get me wrong, a seductive buildup of bliss that took over the majority of the book. I just wish there had been more development in regards to Clove's thoughts and feelings about his situation. I was excited by the twist reveal at the end, until I realized the authors weren't going to have time to flesh it out. As written, it felt like a throw-in to mollify readers like me who were unsure about consent.

There's a line (a very thin line) between erotica and porn. "Purchased for Pleasure" straddles that line. Oh, there are some (a lot) of steamy sizzle, here. But there's also plot. And plot. And dragons. And the pièce de résistance, it's by Piper Scott. She does such wonderful dragon stories.
Clove is a street rat whose beauty draws in slavers. Caught, sold, he becomes the property a dragon, Sobell. He resists, resists and then he falls for the big guy. As I said, the sizzle factor is high. And descriptive. But at it's heart, this is a sweet story
with an interesting end twist.
Totally enjoyed this. A very quick, fun read.

It was an interesting story, different in significant ways from the usual omegaverse books I have read (be sure to read the note on omegaverse), and it was definitely explicit and high spice. Clove was captured by elves to be sold as a pleasure slave. His buyer was definitely unexpected, a dragon with an unusual body (reminding me more of an oriental dragon than a St. George’s-type dragon) and with a twist, then a bigger twist at the end. Short story but packed with sexy times for two interesting characters who apparently have a hidden connection which only one remembers.

I received an advance review copy and this is my voluntary review.

Pleasure slave captured by elves, virgin Clove and sold to Dragon Sobell

2.5-3

Dubcon. Sex pollen. Magic. Monster/human. First Time. Tongue. DP. Body modification.

Honestly I just went for this one because it was a short audiobook narrated by Michael Dean, and it would be the perfect length before going to sleep. I didn’t even read the blurb.

But it turned into one of these things where the world building is interesting and could be so much more than just an erotica. Especially with that ending, that story could be a full book if done correctly.
Here it’s not exactly done correctly because we’re stuck for half the story with some kinky gray area dubcon monster sex and then we’re told how much more it could have been.

Purchased for Pleasure is the story of Clove and Sobell. Please read the trigger warnings before you start this book. This was an interesting short story. It was told from Clove's point of view. I wish we would have had more about Sobell. I loved the characters and chemistry between the guys. The steam was definitely high between these two. I really liked the concept of the story. I wish it had been longer. I don't want to give spoilers so I will just say that I really enjoyed it. I would give this book 3.5 stars so will round up to 4 stars. I would definitely recommend this book.
