Ama Samy describes the essential dimensions of Awakening. "Awakening is itself beyond discursive explanations. But without language and understanding, the experience of Awakening will be lost like water poured on desert sands. Language and understanding are necessary to articulate one's experience, to deepen it, and to realize it -- to make it real and actual."
Ama Samy, Zen master and Jesuit priest, was authorized to teach Zen by Yamada Koun Roshi in 1982. His method of teaching embraces both Soto and Rinzai Zen traditions and draws from the resources of Christianity and other religions. He lives and teaches at Bodhi Zendo Zen Center in India and spends several months each year leading retreats in Europe, Australia and the US. With the help of his students, he runs Little Flower, a non-profit organization supporting women, children and landless people in southern India.
Theoretical but has a very deep meaning. I am so happy to have attended the 5 days Zen retreat with AMA Samy and get a signed copy by him saying Dear Rohan, awaken to your primal face. This book is must be read again and again to find deeper meanings of things every time.
