I Wanted Revenge Too, It Said “Thank Me… or Else”.

ARC Review: Thank you to the author/publisher for the advance copy. All opinions are my own, including the unhinged ones. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I didn’t finish this book… I survived it.
And I’m not convinced it let me go.

There’s something intensely wrong at the core of this story, in the most intoxicating, skin-crawling way possible. It stands at that brutal crossroads of psychological and supernatural revenge horror, refusing to let you look away.

The tone is raw, furious, and suffocating—deliberate in its brutality, daring you to keep going. There’s no simple morality, no safety zone—only a relentless, gnawing question of control: who has it, who’s losing it, and what happens when it’s gone. This is rage pulsing with life. Trauma with teeth. It doesn’t seek your attention—it claims it, drags you into the darkness, and you won’t escape.

What grated me completely was how personal it felt. Morgan isn’t just a character—you witness her fracture live. Her hunger to belong, to be seen, becomes her vulnerability, making the horror hit even harder. The threat isn’t just external—it’s seductive, patient, and disturbingly persuasive. The escalation is masterful: starting controlled, almost justified, then spiraling into something bigger, more vicious, and unstoppable. Add in the layered character dynamics (where trust is basically a joke), and the tension never lets up. Some of them, are just rage-fueling… you know who you are 👀! The emotional payoff? Sharp, uncomfortable, exactly what this story demands.

Then there’s it—more than just a spirit or presence—a promise that whispers what you need to hear when you’re at your lowest, then twists the knife when you say yes. It’s not forceful—no, it’s tempting, coaxing, making Morgan believe she’s in control… right until she isn’t. The tension tightens, slow and deliberate, like something wrapping around your throat, testing how long you can hold your breath.

The writing pulls you in with a quiet, creeping intensity that sneaks up on you. Descriptive without heaviness, relentless once it finds its stride. The multiple POVs add depth, but staying rooted mostly in Morgan’s mind makes it unmissable—you’re not just watching her unravel, you’re in it. The pacing? It flips a switch: slow burn at first, then suddenly relentless. Each chapter ends like a trap—just one more, then why am I still awake reading at 3AM?

The atmosphere? Absolutely suffocating. That lakeside setting seems peaceful, but it’s a lie—still waters watching, woods swallowing sound, long nights stretched thin, waiting for something to happen. And when it does? It feels destined—inevitable. Like the horror was always there, just waiting for Morgan to crack.

There was a moment—no spoilers—but it involved the word “thank you.” And I wanted to crawl out of my own skin faster. The way gratitude turns into something violent, degrading, wrong—yeah, that’s where I saw red. It stopped being “disturbing” and became personal.

Humor? Absolutely essential. Because at some point, I realized: oh cool, we’re not just dealing with monsters—we’re dealing with people. And that’s somehow worse. Love that for us. Truly. Humanity is thriving. 🙃

But the lingering part? The one that stalks you? The moral rot. The slow realization that justice and vengeance are not the same. And this story? It doesn’t care if you can tell the difference. You’ll feel that line blur, and then snap. And the worst? You understand why. 😌

This delivers exactly what genre fans crave: supernatural horror with psychological depth, messy revenge, and that addictive “this will go too far, and I can’t look away” vibe. It tackles heavy themes—trauma, violation, rage, loss of control—without softening. Be sure to check trigger warnings‼️ But if you want horror that lingers, unsettles, and makes you question justice? This hits hard. Chaotic, morally ambiguous, spiraling out of control. Perfect for those craving intense, trauma-driven stories, fragile protagonists, and an atmosphere so unsettling… but ends with sweet revenge and a woman choosing healing over silence. ❤️‍🩹

Overall, I recommend this book—because it commits. It knows exactly what it is and won’t flinch. The atmosphere, emotional punch, moral discomfort—all fuse into something sharp and purposeful. It’s the kind of book where you know you should look away… but you won’t. That’s exactly the point.

It’s not just about revenge—it’s about what happens when it stops asking permission. Enter at your own risk. Because this isn’t about defeating the monster—it’s about what happens when the monster convinces you to become it.

Really good little story based on feminine rage with a supernatural twist.
Well written, descriptive believable characters.
Trigger warning of unwanted adult bedroom assault.
All the characters are late teen to early adult.
Writing style is easy to read and follow, not too much graphic body horror, horror is story based and not just for shock value.
Overall, a good little murder horror story.
