Pressure Proof by former New York City Fire Chief Thomas Dunne was a really enjoyable and surprisingly useful read. I went in expecting some interesting behind-the-scenes stories, and it definitely delivers on that—but I also found myself taking away a lot of practical insight along the way.

What I appreciated most is how approachable it is. It doesn’t feel like a textbook at all, but you still come away with meaningful lessons. Chief Dunne shares stories from his time with the FDNY that are engaging on their own, while also highlighting ideas about decision-making under pressure, communication, leadership, and dealing with fear.

I’m not a firefighter, but I still found so much of it relatable. A lot of the lessons apply to everyday situations and how we handle stress more generally.

Overall, a great read that’s both interesting and genuinely helpful. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone, no matter what field you’re in.
