Rated only one star because book ends on a cliffhanger with no warning in any of the promotional materials/blurb that it CANNOT be read as a standalone.
A real waste of my time.
I typically would have rated it four stars for writing/story, but not forewarning about the cliffhanger ending is a sin I won't ever forgive.

I am kind of split over this book. I think it is well written and I like that the storyline was not super predictable. But, and maybe it was just me that didn't realize this when I started the book, but for anyone that is planning to read it, know that this is the first part of a series, not a stand alone. I personally would have not read the book had I known that (I really don't like series, that's obviously a personal preference).
As for the content of the book, I think what bothers me is the character development of Kira. She starts out as this tough FMC but by the second half of the book she feels like a completely different person. Like things start just happening to her and she does not feel like an active character in the book. You know, how if Indiana Jones weren't part of the movie the outcome would have been the same? It felt very similar here.
Finally, I am still giving this 4 stars, since most of the critique I had was just a personal preference. I will say though, I was tempted to give it 3 just for how much I disliked Nix in the book (and then I remind myself that this is just a book and it is not that deep, although man is she annoying 😂). wow wow wow! There was no slow build up for this one. Right out of the gate we have a DEAD BODY and a FMC in an ambulance in chapter 1! The entire book was such a roller coaster ride. Things would be crazy then calm just a little then BOOM crazy again! All while the characters are trying to navigate it all and keep one of the FMCs alive and everyone out of jail! This was an ARC read for me and Im so glad I was chosen as a reader. It ends on a cliffhanger and I NEED to know what happens next!! Im look forward to reading more from Gigi Meadows.

I am beyond mad. Don’t tell me it’s Book 1 of 1 and END ON A CLIFFHANGER! What the actual..?!?! I just wanted a standalone and now I have to wait God knows how long to find out what happens because there is no mention of a Book 2 Absolutely not cool. I obviously liked the book or I wouldn’t care if it ended on a cliffhanger or not. I thought the author did a great job of writing Jax snd Kira their chemistry and banter in the beginning was delightful. I really liked the way he commanded all situations and took care of everything and also was trying to balance whether or not he was going to “take care” of Kira or not. I loved her tough exterior and the way she also took care of all of her situations, but I do think around midway through the book she really changed and couldn’t stop worrying and over worrying about everything so she lost a lot of the edge that she had that made her so much fun as an FMC. She did get some of her sass back near the end, but would’ve liked to have seen a little bit more. Nix and Caleb‘s relationship was also solid writing and I like the arc that they had but again so incredibly pissed off that it ended on a cliffhanger.

Me gusto la historia, sobretodo el comienzo, de entrada estas en medio un ataque al corazon con un muerto en el lugar. Me encanto Kira al principio, tenia mucha personalidad y caracter. Ame todas las interacciones con Jax, el tambien me parecio un personaje oscuro con una actitud re badass. Pero a la mitad del libro Kira ya casi no tenia participacion en la historia era medio un paquete que lo unico que hacia era llorar, entrar en panico y mandarse cagadas. Despues Jax resulta que no es tan capo como parecia, al final lo hundieron en su propio juego y no me sorprendió tanto el cliffhanger del final porque era obvio que dejaron cabos sueltos por todos lados. No creo que siga con el proximo libro..

... ese final donde esta Kira presa y lo unico que piensa es que no va a poder comer una hamburguesa o dormir en su cama me parecio tan estupida, amiga estas presa no se te cae una idea, no esta pensando en como salir, en como la metieron ahi, en determinar si la gente que esta alrededor suyo la puede ayudar o se tiene que cuidar, lo unico que piensa es que ojala Jax la pueda sacar. Malisimo, odio las protagonistas asi.

Great Chemistry, Frustrating Side Characters
I have pretty mixed feelings about this book. The biggest highlight for me was definitely Kira and Jax. Their chemistry was fantastic, the banter was fun, and I found myself looking forward to every scene they shared. They really carried the story for me.
On the other hand, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Nix. She came across as more immature than I expected. She felt overly naive at times, and I found myself getting frustrated with some of her decisions.
That said, I still enjoyed the book overall. The ending was one of my favorite parts because it didn’t go the predictable “happily ever after” route. Just when it seems like everything is about to be wrapped up nicely, the story takes a turn that makes it clear things are only just beginning. It definitely left me curious to see how everything will be resolved in the second book.
While this wasn’t a perfect read for me, I’m invested enough in the characters and the story that I’ll definitely be picking up the sequel.

I really liked this book. The writing was excellent and I really enjoyed this book and I cant wait for more. I do however see the flaws others have mentioned such as Nix being annohing and naive, and feeling like Kira lost her fight a bit towards the middle of the book but I also understand where all of it is coming from. Nix is still young and has had someone take the fall for her constantly, like you know, someone willing to hide a dead body (really enjoyed this plot as well, was something a bit different) and take the blame for her so the naivety seems to fit. I'm hoping in the next book we see some character development of Nix. Kira on the other hand, I wish she did keep more of her spark but I also see how if you've just come out of hospital and had to do everything for everyone all the time, it would be all you'd want is to have someone take care of you for a change. That being said I think Kira is also gonna have to find that fight again and actually be a tough girl in the next book. I'm genuinely very excited for the next book, although I think I'll be waiting a while.

The whole “helping hide a body” setup immediately pulled me in, but what kept me hooked was Jax. Morally gray, protective, a little unhinged, but completely gone for her? Yes please.
I loved that he fell first. The way he took care of Kira, even when everything was messy and dangerous, hit that perfect balance of intense and soft. And the spice? Definitely delivered without taking away from the story.

This book? Flipping perfection the character with loveable and unique including the side characters but mainly the mmc i rlly love how the fmc was weak from heart tear and he just so happened to be there and I also love him going your my wife so cute I felt bad for the fmc when he burnt her house down but then I started to go yes girl and then nix near the end so cool and brave love her but then the ending come on why did you have to fi ish on that couldn't you have said what evidence do you have like I need answers and tax in that last chapter im so glad I wasnt in his pov or that would has been even more emotional im not placing and bets but im guessing its Arnold's fault but I cant wait for a war next book

This book was randomly selected as our book club's monthly read.
It has left me not knowing how to feel, especially with that ending. I loved that it started hot in the first chapter and the ending, but felt the middle of the book was a bit of a slow burn. I enjoyed the character development of Kira; to see her putting on a tough front to be the big sister her little sister, Nix, needed, including all sacrifices Kira has made to ensure Nix could be the best that she could be, and then being able to be softer because Kira had found a person she could be safe with. However, Nix really irked me the entire book (problem child and not in a good way).
Will most likely be reading the next book in the series.

Not worth continuing Kira has no real personality no ifea why he likes her. Also no one is dumb enough to forget they left DNA in their vehicle. They burned everything else but she forgot to mention to the professional the other truck. He would have had them start from the beginning all the way to the end when they found each other each step they took so he knew about her truck.
She is trying to make a barely tolerable book a duet which is ridiculous. Not enough plot or story to make another book.

This book plot unfolded around Insta-love, which I always hate because… why? You love her? You’d die for her? You just met. That’s crazy. Where is the slow burn? The buildup and the tension? The characters and feelings development? Not here.
But to make matters worse, the main character, Kira, was supposed to be this strong, independent caretaker, who raised her sister and managed a house since the age of eight. And yet in every scene, she was either in a hospital bed, fainting, being carried, crying, or making some stupid decision that would lead to one of those former things. I was so unimpressed with her. Like, if you just wanna write a helpless, needy, pathetic, main character then do it. Don’t write her into a big sister, competent, tough image that doesn’t match the plot at all.
Also, why is everybody stupid? Why did they burn everything to the ground except the truck? I was over this book pretty early, but for some reason, read to the end/“cliffhanger“. Definitely not continuing to book 2.

I liked the premise but honestly all the fear and paranoia makes the entire book drowning out literally everything including major medical issues…and then how it ends. 🙄
Honestly didn’t liked any of the characters either, I wish I could say they were developed but they weren’t, especially not enough to read another book.
A lot of it annoyed me and this is really just personal opinion, it was well written book just wasn’t for me.

Loved the story
I loved the story line. Very well written. Obsessive, Protective, and Seriously morally gray Mmc. But seriously why leave it on such a cliff hanger? No updates on a second book? Frustrated to the point I'm not continuing with the series. I don't mind cliff hangers if I know before hand that it ends on one and when to expect the next.

Such a captivating and original read!
Right away I was pulled into the story! It was filled with twists and turns, action, danger and much more!!
Then we have are main characters, Jax and Kira. Together, these two had such great chemistry and spice.

Genuinely do not understand the hype or reviews that say this is good.
Absolutely no plot. No interesting characters. Finished the book out of pure spite only for it to end on an unnecessary cliffhanger.

This was a great story that kept me engaged from beginning to end! i love how the author pulls you in with the dual perspective. Kira and Jax's personality comes out great and their chemistry is hot! They both are protective over their siblings. Kira goes through heart issues at the same time as trying to help her sister get away with a murder of a deadbeat cop. While Jax is protective towards his brother who helps Kira's sister with the murder coverup, Jax is pulled towards Kira and helps her with the murder cover up as well. Never a dull moment, they face one issue over another. Then when you think there's closure in the end, it continues but ends with a cliffhanger unfortunately.
I enjoyed the book and would recommend for others to read.
