Tamara Gibbs is looking for the next big story With three weeks to break a story that'll save her newspaper agency or start considering the possibilities of another job entirely, Tamara needs to find a story to report on, and fast. When her investigations take her to the small town of Rojo Arroyo, Arizona, Tamara finds herself quickly caught up in the outlaw world of the Roadside Angels
It's hard to keep secrets in a small town, but Alexander Cole has made do A werewolf and the enforcer for the Roadside Angels MC, Alexander Cole is a man with plenty of secrets. When an attractive reporter arrives and starts asking questions, he'll need to do everything in the world to convince her not to.
She might have bitten off more than she could chew At the center of Tamara's story is the hunk of an enforcer for the Roadside Angels: Alexander Cole--a man whose attractiveness and brooding nature she finds herself unable to tear away from, and a man who may or may not be entirely human.
This book had a lot of flaws. Tamara is a new investigative reporter and she goes off looking for a story. She finds a little town who basically tell her there is nothing there to report on.
Lex is stand-offish at first and repeatedly tells Tamara to leave. All of a sudden he changes his mind and they do it...this part was actually pretty hot :D
I hate that we're left in the dark for the whole book. We only get a little info about Lex in the epilogue!!!
Annoying Heroine! And it's a serial, not a stand alone!
I was looking forward to this book because it combined two of my favorite things...bikers and shifters! Realizing this first book is setting a lot of the overall story arc, I am giving it 2 stars. There isn't much information about the MC or anyone in the town but superficial "so in so, the owner of this or the manager of that" type introductions. I didn't realize this was not a complete stand alone or I would have passed. I despise this trend of serialized chapters sold or released as they're finished rather than a completed novel. It's too much like fan fiction! The writing is very simplistic and told in alternating POV from her to him. Him being the H, an alpha werewolf/vampire hybrid (which you learn in the epilogue) who is in the MC but no cuts or rankings are mentioned nor who is leader but you're left to assume it's the H. As for the h, I gauge her to be around 23-24, a recent journalism grad, from Connecticut. She is painted as an investigative journalist working for a failing semi-sketchy paper that breaks stories of a more "bizarre" or paranormal nature. Her constant self-reinforcements regarding being said journalist and there to do a job drove me nuts! I could not get invested in this story. I finished reading it strictly to see if it improved. It did not. I cannot recommend this as anything other than a filler from Kindle Unlimited, do not waste money on it.
This book had promise. Unfortunately aside from the "buy the next book in order to find out more" which wasn't really all that well done - the narrative of the story is fairly weak. There is a lot of telling, its missing a good deal of subtext, the character's motivations aren't believable. I think if the book had an editor, and was combined with the next portions of the story it might be better received.
I downloaded Wolf Among Sheep as a free novella from Amazon.
While I can't put my finger on anything specific, I just didn't get into this story and was relieved to finish so I could go to the next boo on my TBR. I think I will avoid nosy reporter stories from now on, as I think it's the pushy heroine that turned me off. Other readers may like her feisty character, so I would have given this a neutral rating if I only based my review on that point...
BUT, this book was advertised as a werewolf biker story-- Not only did out hero never ride a motorcycle (he was a rancher in a pick-up), but there was no interaction with his "Club" members. As for being a shapeshifter, the reader gets a hint of him being a paranormal, but there is no real supernatural element in the story. This is a fail on the genre advertised, as well as a failure to engage me as a reader. Reads more like an installment in a serial, rather than a stand-alone book in a series.
Is this an MC book, a gang book or a shifter book?
There is nothing at all indicating throughout this entire book, which by the way is more of a novella, that this is an MC book. I mean there were some bikes mentioned like twice, Lex mentioned a club once, every other time this group of bikers was referred to as a gang not a club, even Lex ended up referring to them as a gang. This novella involved more of a shifter plot than anything MC related, so I think it's fair to say this is just a shifter novella, not a MC book.
With that being clarified, this actually wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't end on a slight CLIFFHANGER! I know this is part of a Trilogy but I assumed that we would get three full length books, not little snippets with cliffhangers designed to keep us hanging just so we can purchase the next book in line. That may work for other readers but it sure as hell doesn't work for me.
So while I enjoyed Tammie's spunky attitude and nose for news; Lex's brooding and mysterious ways; not to mention the whole mystery of the Wolf attacks, I will not invest any more time nor money into any more short ass books with cliffhangers. ..
I give it a 3.5. I liked that the author was careful to provide details but not so many as to bombard the reader with things that would not affect the story. We open the story with Tamara who is an investigative reporter on the hunt for a new story in a little town in AZ. Some of the locals are friendly enough and others are continuously encouraging her to go back home. When I was first introduced to Lex, he comes off as a bit cold to Tamara even though he cannot seem to keep his eyes off her. You see that him do a 180°, now being able to see exactly how into her he is. They go out for a drive lunch and dinner, and before you know it they take the leap. Now only if Tamara could tell too and be sure of herself. So a story breaks and once again it puts Lex and Tamara at odds. But we have to wait until the next book to see what affect there is on their budding relationship.
2.7-3.2 Stars. Free Book 3/14/15. I liked the idea of the story but it moved to slowly with not enough world building. We finally get some excitement and maybe some answers when the book ends. I hate cliffhangers so I wouldn't have read this if i'd known. I'd read the next book if it was free but probably wouldn't pay for it. The next book looks better now that the author has her ideas warmed up but I'm guessing it will also end in a cliffhanger.
Tamera is a reporter looking for a big scoop and a story when she asks a few too many questions in the small town she soon finds herself facing off Lex enforcer for Roadside Angels MC I would have scored this story higher if it would have been more clear throughout that Lex was a shifter but with that said, Great cover!
first book i have read by this author. good story line, wasn't really sure if this was paranormal book until last few pages. Reporter needs big story so the newspaper she works for doesn't close. Goes to small town where a child has been attacked by a black wolf and the townspeople are closed mouth.I have already gotten book two so i will know what the big mystery is. Would recommend
What a good story line. Reporter out to catch a story on a wolf attack. Seems simple enough, but is it. Bad ass biker, saves the day...too good of a story to pass up. But, what's the real story behind it? Why won't anyone talk? Read and see...
This story has a very slow start to see where it was going. Unfortunately it started rolling at the very end of the book. Hopefully the next book rolls smoother.
knowing in advance this was a short story with a cliffhanger, I rated this as a 3.5. I feel there is a lot missing but I hope to find out more in the other books, which mine came in as a 3 part set.
