this was a really cute and fun read!
the comic follows ji-eon, a hardworking adult who struggles to make a living and has to take on multiple jobs in order to make it by, and somehow finds herself in possession of a magical doll that connects her with the celebrity actor — nam doyun. she ends up temporarily working for doyun and has one of the worst days ever. she ends up taking her anger out on the plushie, which then magically affects doyun.
i sped through this comic and really enjoyed myself while doing so! honestly, the major drawback was that it felt a bit repetitive after a while. i also feel like the comic ended super abruptly. not even on a cliffhanger, it sort of just ends — so the volume could’ve chosen a better chapter of the webtoon to end on in my opinion.
also, i don’t really think it’s fair to say this is for people who enjoy workplace romance dynamics. ji-eon and doyun don’t work together for more than a day, so that whole dynamic is really short-lasting.
i know there’s going to be more of the comic and this was my introduction to it, but i think the introduction of another male romantic lead was also a little strange? i really enjoyed the set-up of the romance between ji-eon and doyun and felt like the pace wasn’t too fast or leaning on insta-love, so to turn things into a possible love triangle would be a possible drawback for me.
overall though, i think this is a super cute comic, and i can’t wait to read the next edition. especially since i really like ji-eon as a protagonist. she’s a perfect mix of headstrong and silly.

I wish Doyun & Ji-eon could just kiss and fall in love already. And that Se-In (aka Geumsuk Kim) can just take a step back. I've built my ship from the beginning because of how hilarious the both of them are esp with the magic doll causing some memorable moments (i.e. that one time when he thought he kissed her but had actually kissed her shoes instead 😝). I wonder what would it take for Doyun to jump back into the industry and what impact it would have on their relationship. He can't stay a "house husband" forever even though it's doing wonders for their relationship.

I remember scrolling through Webtoons back in the day (hello, Lore Olympus and True Beauty), so I was really excited to get this.
We have our FMC working nonstop, a magic-granting stuffie (???) and a celebrity MMC. What more could you ask for?
I was actually laughing out loud, and color me intrigued by our new friend at the end. A love triangle, maybe?
I'm more than ready for the next volume!

This is the second story I've read by XUANN. The first was the Wolf and Red Riding Hood which was great. While this is a fun romp of a story with a traditional enemies to lovers trope set in the entertainment world with a slight supernatural element, it wasn't quite as inventive as the wolf story. This season ended with lots still to be resolved and I look forward to seeing the further development of the characters and the plot. The artwork is also excellent and really adds to the story.

A dash of fantasy adds to unpredictable situations to create an adorable, slow-burn romance.
Ji-eon is working every job she can just to get by. Three to be exact, and she's already collapsed from exhaustion a couple times. Still, bills need to be paid. Even her small apartment is a disaster since the 4-5 hours she's there mean sleep. When an old man pays for his beer with a stuffed animal and toy handcuffs from a claw machine, she's sure she'll be fired the next day. But things get worse when her temp job, the next morning, takes her to a studio and they demand a refundable fee for her to even work there. After all, other temps only go there to see the celebrities and don't do their jobs. She's there to work, so it shouldn't be a problem until a huge misunderstanding with a famous actor about her position leaves her kicked out and unpaid. Back at home, she mourns her situation with the stuffed animal from the old man in hand only to have the famous actor appear at her door, profusely apologizing...and trying to lick her toes! While the actor can't remember or control his actions and begins to wonder if he's losing his mind, Ji-eon figures out that the stuffed animal controls him...a bit like a voodoo doll. She has no intention of using this and plans to leave the man alone, but fate has different plans.
This is a very slow burn romance with tons of heart, silly situations, and giggles galore. At the same time, it sinks deep into the problem of trying to work hard to make ends meet. Too hard. And Ji-eon isn't the only character facing this issue. While this is tagged for adults, it works fine for teens as well and not only because it's very clean and sweet. Ji-eon's problems at each of her workplaces are ones many teens will recognize and sympathize with, since these are the types of side jobs high schoolers also do. Ji-eon is hardworking, not happy about her situation but trying her best, and kind through-and-through. This makes her easy to root for, especially when things seem to grow more difficult as the tale goes on.
The situation humor is bittersweet, and the famous actor is by no means on her radar. Nor she on his. There are hints at a future love-triangle, but as said, all of this is extremely slow burn, so anything can happen. It's more about beginning friendships or, at least, not disliking an individual completely. So, there's a lot to come in the rest of the series.
The graphics flow well and carry energy while letting the weight of Ji-eon's situation (and that of the actor) also come through. The fantasy angle is there but doesn't steer the plot completely, allowing the run of daily life to shine through. The text is short and sweet, driving the story forward as needed and letting the graphics do the rest. There are a couple pink pages between each section to add a nice break each time, which adds to the enjoyable flow. It's a fun balance for an enjoyable, quick read.
This first volume by no means rounds things off by the end but lays the solid foundation of Ji-eon's personality, issues, and hopes. The other characters are building slowly, letting readers get to know them right along with Ji-eon...although some of the tale is told from other points of view. It will be fun to see where all of this goes because Ji-eon's adventure has just begun.

Ji-Eon does not have it easy. During the week she works at three separate jobs, on the weekends the poor girl works temp jobs all to support herself and her mom. One evening at her convenience store job someone pays her with a knock off Minji doll, the hottest new character this season! Highly annoyed and not thinking much of it she takes it home with her. The next day she heads off to that weekends temp job, working on set for a drama being filmed. After getting lost she is "found" by Doyun Nam, who just assumes that she is his temp manager for the day. After bossing her around all day and costing her over 70,000 won, Ji-Eon is furious and she takes her fury out on the Minji doll she received the previous night. However, something strange happens ten minutes later Doyun Nam is at her apartment apologizing of all things! After she finally gets him to leave Ji-Eon realizes that somehow Minji is controlling Doyun Nam! Can she make this work to her advantage?
Alright this was super cute. Like super, duper cute. Ji-Eon is a great character who honestly is taking on way more than she should because she seems to not be able to say no. Moreover, she has a low self-esteem and whenever anything goes wrong she takes the blame for it. Even if it is not her fault, I think big thing here is she totally recognizes that she does this, she doesn't seem to be doing anything to fix it (as of yet, it's only vol 1) but at least she knows she does it. On the other side Doyun Nam is kinda what you'd expect from a celebrity trying to make a comeback. He's arrogant and bossy, but he's also got his own troubles, so I forgive him.
There also appears to be another love interest being introduced towards the end of the volume so we may have a love triangle. Something I am normally not a fan of except in this Kdrama style story.
I think my only really small complaint here is that it ends really, really abruptly. Like we have the first full interaction with Ji-Eon and the possible second love interest, he compliments her and then bam! the end. I think it was meant to feel like a cliff hanger but honestly, it was so abrupt I thought I was missing pages!
I'll definitely be considering this series and if you are looking for a Kdrama style RomCom, this is definitely right up your alley!

4 ⭐️ This was a great read! It was pretty chaotic and definitely had its cringe funny moments. I enjoyed Ji-eon’s and Doyun’s interactions at each unfortunate unintentional meeting due to the doll that’s given her the power to become a boss that makes the decisions instead of being told what to do. The cliffhanger left me wanting to know more, and to see what comes next afterwards! I would definitely recommend this for folks that enjoy slow-burns, showbiz, and normal person x celebrity dynamic.
I admired Ji-eon’s work ethic, and unfortunate workaholic tendencies due to the pride of survival made me attached to her. Her frustrations with customers in her retail jobs were incredibly relatable and it’s funny that regardless of where you go, there will be people like that in real life who lack empathy and self-awareness. The moments where she was venting her frustrations of her daily life were absolutely hilarious and made me laugh so loud.
I can only imagine the anxiety that comes with being an adult that has been left to be the sole bread winner of the family, and constantly providing, transferring money to your parent and making those ends meet for yourself. I hope that Ji-eon isn’t being taken advantage with her forced work ethics.
Doyun had your typical stuck-up attitude towards a stranger on their first meeting, presenting himself to be quite the jerk as a celebrity. Showbiz unfortunately has a way of making all of your worst moments 10 times worst. I would react the same way as him if I suddenly had no control of my body, and couldn’t completely remember the events of the previous day during that time.
Both lead characters had such funny cringe interactions, I especially enjoyed the intimate moments where you could really tell that Ji-eon had empathy towards Doyun despite being a so-called jerk. Curious to see how their dynamic will grow and evolve once they’ve become attached to each other.

Act Like You Love Me! follows Ji-eon, an overworked personal assistant who discovers a mysterious doll capable of controlling her celebrity boss, Doyun Nam. What starts as a way for Ji-eon to finally feel like she has some control over her own life quickly becomes much more complicated as she and Doyun develop a slow-burn romance.
Pros
I really enjoyed the story and found the overall plot interesting. The premise is unique, and the combination of workplace romance, comedy, and a little supernatural mystery kept me curious about where the story would go. The characters are engaging, and I found myself invested in their interactions and relationships.
The artwork is also appealing. The character designs are expressive, and the full-color illustrations give the book a polished, modern webtoon feel. There are some genuinely cute and funny visual moments that work well with the story.
Cons
My biggest issue was the paneling and placement of the speech bubbles. At times, there is so much happening within a panel that it becomes difficult to know where to look or which dialogue to read first. The overlapping speech bubbles, narration, sound effects, and artwork can make some pages feel cluttered.
Unfortunately, this occasionally disrupted the flow of the story for me. I would be enjoying a scene and then have to stop and figure out how the dialogue was supposed to be read, which took me out of the moment and slowed down the story’s momentum.
Final verdict
Overall, I really enjoyed Act Like You Love Me! and thought the story and characters were strong enough to keep me invested. The unique premise, engaging characters, and romantic storyline made this a fun read.
My main frustration was the visual presentation in some panels. With cleaner paneling and more intentional placement of the speech bubbles, I think the story would have had a much smoother reading experience.

Quirky, cute, funny, and hard to put down
My plan was to flip through this to see what it was like. What happened instead was I read the whole thing and was left wanting to read more.
Ji-eon is struggling. She works three jobs each weekday and temp jobs on weekends to try to save enough to get a place big enough for her and her mom to live. One day she receives a Mingji doll from a customer rather than being paid with money, can you believe it?! That weekend, during a temp job she meets Doyun, a celebrity who is demanding and dismissive of her, and who costs her her job, which is just her luck. Back home she takes it out on Mingji, only to discover what she tells Mingji to do, Doyun does instead. This makes his life difficult. After all, who would believe he’s not in control of his own body?! And perhaps there is more to Doyun than meets the eye, which is already quite nice.
This is a cute, funny, and way too short series. Volume 1 contains episodes 1-10 of the webtoon. The illustrations are in full colour and are very well done; they really add to the story and do an excellent job depicting how the characters were feeling. There are even small little details that are added, like the currency conversion from won to USD.
This was such a pleasure to read! You’ll be done before you know it, and just as things start to get really interesting. I’ll be trying to get my hands on more of the story as soon as I can!

Act Like You Love Me! offers a collision of two very different and very isolated people thanks to a magical doll and a whole lot of stress. Ji-eon is working too many jobs for the hope of maybe being able to rent an apartment with a less than supportive mother, living only through the dramas she watches on her phone. Doyun was an up and coming actor who has anxiety attacks and a contract as a spokesperson that has stalled out his career. For one day, a miscommunication has Ji-eon acting as Doyun's beleaguered assistant only to walk away with no paycheck and more distress. That might be the end of it, but a doll Ji-eon ends up with allows her to control him in a very monkey's paw kind of way. The first issue resolves with some interesting tension and development, especially when an organic relationship might be on the horizon for Ji-eon, and plenty of room for more development.
I really like Ji-eon. She's wounded but surviving, and her exhaustion and inability to fix her life against forces that have drowning is probably all too familiar for many. Doyun's best friend/assistant left more of an impression on me than the ML himself, but there's definitely potential for something there. Over all and easy, enjoyable read.

I used to read this back when it was still being published on Webtoon, and rereading the first few chapters in this volume today made me realise that Act Like You Love Me! is still one of the funniest romcom out there (ﾉ´ヮ´)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧

Since it had been years since I last read the webtoon (I did not even finish it), I cannot wait to relearn about these two again ⊹♡ they'll surely make me cackle in delight multiple times again.

I devoured this in between helping patrons during the one hour I was on the desk.
This is hilarious. Who hasn’t thought about how amazing it would be to have something that would make someone who wronged you apologize? Or to have the chance to bring someone back after an argument when you’ve finally thought of the perfect comeback or argument that would prove you were right? Our premise is this: our main female lead finds a plushie that allows her to control an infuriating actor that she meets during a temp job. Unfortunately for her, this leads to several rather embarrassing situations for both her and the actor, who is already on the outs with his acting firm for his anxiety and panic attacks. Hijinks ensue. Hilarity follows.
The art is a simple, colorful style that really fits with the comedy of the story, but also allows for the more serious moments (such as when they are discussing the actor’s panic attacks) to shine.
I can’t wait to read more of this!

I really enjoyed Volume One! Even though Doyun’s actions are technically being “controlled,” you can still tell there’s genuine affection and chemistry starting to develop between them outside of the doll’s influence.
Butttt… I’m also VERY curious to see where they take the storyline with the other male character we meet toward the end. Dare I say I might like him more than Doyun at the moment? Don’t come for me!! I know how these stories usually go, the first MMC almost always gets the girl. Butttt a little competition never hurt anybody. 😂

Act Like You Love Me!, Vol.1 by XUANN reminded me of a workplace/boss romance just like The Business Proposal. The story begins with Ji-eon (FMC) working at her convenience store job. While on the job, a customer doesn't fully pay for his items but leaves a magical doll behind. Ji-eon takes the doll with her home and at times uses it to decompress her stress. When there is a job opportunity at a broadcasting studio, there is a mix-up. Ji-eon ends up spending the day as a personal assistant for famous actor, Doyun which lands more trouble at work. Ji-eon finds work and Doyun frustrating and takes it out on the plush toy. Little does she know that the plush toy is linked to Doyun.
Honestly, this was such a fun read. I truly loved the concept of the plush toy being able to control her boss. Yes, I read this in one sitting since it was so addictive and I wanted to know what would happen between Ji-eon and Doyun. I am definitely going to be on the lookout for the rest of the volumes. 3.5 stars! Ji-eon is working multiple jobs, working herself to the bone, and is still somehow broke. One day, on a temp job, she accidentally ends up working the wrong position, acting unknowingly as an assistant for the famous actor Doyun. Unfortunately, because she unknowingly did not perform her actual temp job, she leaves the day without pay or compensation for the errands Doyun led her to. Rightfully, she's pissed about it. She expresses this frustration to a recently acquired doll, stating she'd wish he'd come to her groveling an apology on his knees. Much to her and the reader's surprise, soon after he is at her door doing so, and Doyun himself is confused as to why. This sets up the premise for our story between these two.
This was a fun introductory volume to this story, and the comedic bits landed well. The art was good, and I enjoyed the pace of the story. I like this book from the cooking to the connections of the MCs. I felt like when they had a crash-out, it was necessary compared to other books where, if an MC crashes out or freaks out, then it isn't based on true feelings. I didn't like how gloomy the book was for this volume because the backgrounds were mostly black; it made it seem like I was reading a horror when this is a South Korean romance. I love how this celebrity romance reminded me very much of Tashie Bhuiyan's "I'll Pretend You're Mine" because of how much love and care this book had in it. I love the forced proximity of these two because they were stuck in a room together for a while. And when the MFC sees the MMC half-naked, I laughed. AND WHEN THEY ALMOST KISSED, MY HEART STOPPED! And I feel like the MFC is always getting herself into trouble, like she has financial issues, and now she is talking to a celebrity who has issues as well. IM STRESS. The ending- it scares me; I wonder what will happen next.

There's a bit of a lack of chemistry between the two characters but hopefully that will change. It doesn't help that from the perspective of the love interest this story is a horror novel. He can't resist what our MC commands from the stuffed animal and often doesn't remember what was commanded of him. However, there is a love triangle being teased and I fear that I prefer the second love interest. Their interactions were more fun to read from.

it has honestly been a while since i last picked up a webtoon comic so i thought, why not? for the most part, i genuinely enjoyed the story. i'm a sucker for the male celebrity x regular female trope so i easily ate this one.
i will say though, that the premise did not really sit well with me. perhaps it is simply the overthinker in me, but the idea of a doll controlling another human being turned my stomach a little. the fmc could do just about anything to the dude – we see boundaries being crossed a little bit in the novel.
however, at the end of the day, this is a romcom, so if you're reading this, you don't have to take it too seriously. it's fiction so we know that the fmc will have the mmc's best interest at heart!
