Sarah Cross FBI Mystery #2

Buried in the Hills

Rate this book
When an abandoned car is found on the side of the road, no one could have prepared for the nightmare that would unfold.

FBI agent Sarah Cross has had a distinguished career. Until one wrong call changed everything. Now demoted and sent to the backwoods of Tennessee. Sarah feels adrift without a life raft.

While working to overcome her past trauma, she meets an unlikely ally in the town’s sheriff. At odds but forced to work together, the two eventually find common ground. When a desperate call interrupts their movie night.

"There's a car parked on the side of the road and a nightmare scene within."

Tracking down the culprit leads them to a surveillance video. One that shows a hooded figure stealing the vehicle. But the trail to find the culprit proves more dangerous than they imagined. Then something unspeakable confirms Sarah's worst suspicions.

Unhinged anger, despicable deception, and a deep desperation. Justice is about to turn Silver Hill upside down.

This was a good , easy read without a lot of twists and turns. It’s not overly bloody , not complicated , no graphic sex or terrible bad language.
It is by no means the great American Novel. A good story for the night when sleeps evades a person and a tv show just will not satisfy the itch for entertainment.

The story has two main protagonists , A Sheriff , TK , who has lived in the small town all his life. The other is the female FBI agent , who has been recently demoted and sent to the small town in Tennessee as a form of isolation and punishment. To make matters worse she is a YANKEE from Boston.
I found the romantic relationship between these two juvenile , with extremely repetitive dialogue. It was tiring to say the least.
A young man is murdered , buried in a shallow grave and these two on and off again lovebirds must shift through the jumbled evidence to find the truth while trying to find a balance for the their new relationship.

It’s not a bad read , but if you have read four or five of these books you will find they are all the same. These authors seem to write the same damn story over and over . After awhile , they get boring .

Enjoyable series

I like this series and the characters. Good story lines, characters and light humor thrown in. Works for me as a gmail tied good read. Even the romance is tolerable and in a believable way. Sarah is my kind of snarky woman I was hooked after the first book. Nicely engaging and relatable to my northeast upbringing, then moving south. ( people always asking me to repeat , "I pohked my cah." Not a lot of profanity for those that worry about such things. Moving on to book 3.

Enjoyable series so far! I find small-town thrillers fascinating at times in comparison to big-city thrillers, with the differences between a small sheriff's department and a small FBI field office. The characters are easy to flow with and connect with, and the story develops well and is engaging. I do find the whiplash of the relationship between TK and Sarah a bit juvenile at times, and find her ever-changing attitude toward him and her team a bit unnecessary.

Great series

This story and the first one, were intriguing and suspenseful. I really like the melding of the characters who really make the story. Lots of unknowns that change from page to page as the story evolves. Another great series by A.J Rivers. How does one person have all these scenarios in their head? Good stuff!

Liking this series

I was skeptical when I started reading book one. I was sure I would not like it and now I finished book 2 and I just love this series and can't wait for book 3. A.J.Rivers you have done it again, I love the characters and the storyline. You have got to read it now.

This book had no ending. There are lots of unanswered questions. How does a 16 year old get a fake ID.? We have no idea what happened to any of the principles including the killer. This is obviously just a play to get you to read the next in the series. I won’t though. And also the FBI agent twice “thumbed the safety off” on her Glock 19–this gun does not have a manual safety.

Another action packed adventure with Sarah FBI and Sheriff TK, and of course Duke the wonder dog!
The twists and turns kept me reading, but I was a little disappointed with Sarah and TK’s lack of connection.
They seemed very much at odds with each other.
Totally surprised at the ending, but so happy to move on to Book #3 Bones in the Hills.

It was okay

It was ok. I Iiked the 1st one better. I kept skipping chapters because I was bored. The story line was not boring but it just seemed bogged down if that makes sense. I love most of A. J.'s books, this is one is okay but not great.

Wow!

AJ Rivers is the queen of suspenseful stories. And of wild cliffhangers that keep people like me waiting impatiently for the next book in the series. This is only book 2 in this set, but I'm totally hooked. Sarah and TK are great together, even when they're arguing.

Twists and getting closer

What a twist! Love the crew Sarah has, Linda is a hoot! So glad we’re getting closer to the drug kingpin! This one was really twisted with what the family did, could not believe what they did!

I really like the energy of this new series. This second story in Silver Hills was definitely one with a lot of twists that you probably don't see early on. It was definitely entertaining and I'm looking forward to the next book.

TK & Sarah for the win!

Love this new series. Love the push/pull tug between Sarah & TK. Even though she is FBI they work better together than alone. Can’t wait for their next adventure!

Warning ⚠️

I hated the end! Which really means I wasn't ready to stop. I don't like to wait for the next "chapter" to be written so I wait until it's all done so I can enjoy gulping each word. I'm anxiously awaiting the answer. Great storyline.

Small Town / Big Business

For a small town, there is a lot of trouble going on! Lots of action and surprises
at every turn. Who can you trust? That is the big question? Great read, and hard to put down!

Not as suspenful as the earlier books.

A couple of chapters could have been deleted. It felt like fillers in some parts.
But I did enjoy reading this book.

We're going back to Silver Hill, and this time Sarah and TK investigate a carjacking with a possible teenage hostage. Things are definitely not what they seem, and it's up to Sarah and TK to get to the bottom of it.

I absolutely love this series and can't wait to see what's next! The characters are excellent, the setting is my area, and AJ is one of the best modern writers of our time! You will not be disappointed in any of her series, and this one is so good!
