Iris Sullivan worked hard for many years for her medical degree. When she finally obtained it, no one would hire her simply because she was a woman. The town of Nowhere, Texas was the only place she could find work in her field, so she made the move with her companion Edna Petunia Blue, fully expecting to spend the rest of her life as a spinster. When Francis Harvey walked into her office shortly after her arrival, she was surprised at the feelings he inspired.

Francis Harvey had lost his wife of seven years in childbirth and was doing his very best to raise his three daughters on his own. When his eldest broke her arm, he rushed to town for the new doctor, not anticipating what he would find. When he saw a female doctor, he immediately assumed she was a midwife and the town had made a mistake hiring her. He couldn't help but be fascinated by the blond beauty. Could he convince her that he cared about her and not just having a mother for his children? Or would they forever remain alone?

The last several books of the Suitors of Seattle series are meh at best. The attempts at rom-com don't quite make it, and the stories are loaded with repetitious history of the eight sisters (most of which is not relevant to the present story). There is a lack of any real conflict or obstacles to the romance. I finished reading the series because I already had the set (and because I'm a little OCD about finishing what I have started), but I am not recommending.

A series by this author that is more enjoyable (in my opinion) is the Brides of Beckham . The longer stories (books 8 and 10) are the better ones due to more complete plot and character development.

Iris

Well this book did not disappoint, loved all the characters very much. Now Edna Petunia needs her own book as an honorary flower. Very good reading!!

Iris is the eighth book in this series, it can be read as a stand alone novel, but would probably make more sense if you read them all.

I have many questions this book did not answer. One thing was how short the two knew each other and although there was attraction, they both seemed to be fine rushing into a marriage built on lust for each other and love for the girls.
Edna is another thing, she disappears and gets a better offer and she is happy but what is she doing? Is she still in Texas?
The name is another. Iris is taking the last name of Harvey because she feels it is right but there are pages about how she worked hard as a Sullivan to become a doctor and has mixed emotions. And then after the marriage Edith still calls her Dr. Sullivan? Did she change her name.
Iris seemed to have all these questions and concerns before the wedding, but once the wedding was over, they were just focused on married things, and didn't seem to worry about her concerns anymore.
And is she a good cook? That was mentioned as a question and then never resolved.
The other thing that bothered me a little is the openness of sex talk, the timeline for the book suggest it is back in history, not every house had indoor plumbing or electricity, and yet the characters were very open about their feelings. I don't think this would have been normal back then. Especially the conversations they were having inside the church.

I really wanted to love this book but the characters seemed flat, you didn't get to really now them other than they were in a rush to get to the altar.

I received a free copy of this book through net gallery for an honest review.

In the late 1800’s it is not easy for a woman to become a doctor. It is even more difficult to find a place who wants a woman doctor when her education is completed. Such it is that Iris waits in her medical office in Nowhere, Texas with no patients. Then, widower Francis Harvey enters the doctor’s office because his oldest daughter has broken her arm. He thought Dr. Sullivan was a man and is hesitant to have a woman doctor. Finally, he allows Dr. Sullivan to treat his daughter so she will not have a five hour journey of pain to the next closest doctor. Once together, their feelings for each other grow even though Dr. Sullivan thought no one would ever want to marry her.
It was an enjoyable book and even though I had not read the other books in the series, it was no problem reading it as a stand alone. I think I was happy that anticipated conflicts did not occur. Everything was rather “rosy.” I kept thinking something bad was going to happen that they would have to work through. That usually makes for a great book, but in this case (maybe due to my mood when I read it) I was so relieved to not stress reading about Francis and Iris’ relationship.
I received this book through the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest review.

This is the first book of the Beckham series that I have read and I can't wait to go back and start from the beginning. I do feel that if you picked up iris to read you would get enough of the back story to understand the series. I love everything about mail order brides, Osbourne left nothing out on this book. The characters are so likable and lovable and just downright humbling. When Iris arrives as the new Dr. in Nowhere, TX with her side kick Edna Petunia Blue she gets started right away with a local rancher's daughter Mallie who has broken her arm. Francis is a widower with three small children all under the age of 10. After meeting the new Dr. he seems to be a bit smitten with her and so do his girls. A sweet story of love and romance one you won't want to miss out on.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review via NetGalley.

This short novella had less medical information than I thought there would be but since it was a short historical romance perhaps there was not enough time for more. Iris and Francis had chemistry right away and their attempts to be together with three small girls there most of the time were fun to read about. I enjoyed the story and thank NetGalley and Your Elemental Solutions for the copy to read and review

I have not read any of the other books in this series. Iris is finally a Doctor but had to go to Texas to find work. She has not seen any patients except pregnant women. A man shows up looking for the Dr. and is not happy when he finds out the new town Dr. is a woman. This book, in a way, reminds me of the TV show Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. I enjoyed this book very much. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Another fabulous story

Kirsten has a really great way with words and knows exactly how to tell a story that makes you want to keep reading to the end. This may be the last of the "flowers" but thank goodness it won't be the last story that you write. Thank you Kirsten Osborne for sharing your talent and treasures with all of your fans!

Iris is a doctor, and she falls in love.

Iris doesn't believe that she will ever get married and have children. She finally finds a town willing to have a woman doctor. Her first patient is a little girl with a broken arm. Her father doesn't want a woman doctor, but Iris convinces him to take a chance with her. He does, they fall in love, they marry.
