Minalan the Spellmonger, in his guise as Mirkandar the Magnificent, Doge of Farise, is in a bind: the Duke of Merwyn has sent an armada of seventy ships to conquer his newly-independent realm, and Minalan has never fought a battle at sea. Thankfully, the legendary warmage Durgan Jole has a plan, and with the help of his fellow wizards from Sevendor, Minalan feels confident that Farise can survive the invasion. He doesn’t want to kill that many people, but Merwyn has left him little choice.
But then one of the Vundel’s leviathans and its pod swim into the middle of the battle, complicating things dramatically. And that’s just the start of the real problem. An ancient organization lurks in the background while Minalan struggles for control, and the Emissary of the three Alka Alon High Kings has arrived to hold an investigation on the erratic human wizards and their rise to power. King Rard is growing suspicious of Mirkandar’s real identity, and Korbal the Necromancer rises from his crypt to demand the Spellmonger fulfill an oath he'd made. And, unsurprisingly, his teenage daughter is starting to question everything he’s doing.
In the midst of the turmoil comes Moudrost, a Seamage and former member of the Brethren of the Sea, the magical order who alone communicate between the aquatic native inhabitants of Callidore and humanity. He bears a terrifying message: the appearance of the leviathan is no accident. It is coming to Farise, and it is coming for Minalan. It cannot be stopped by mortal men, even wizards, and it is in no mood to negotiate. The only thing standing between the Vundel and the destruction of humanity now is Minalan the Spellmonger . . . and one very important Seamage!

I did not even think twice before hitting the "buy" button on the day this latest book dropped. I absolutely LOVE this unique and zany series following our beloved yet just a bit "mad" wizard - Minalan the Spellmonger.
We are continuing onward with the overarching storyline of Minalan's takeover as the Doge of Farise and the war with Merwyn that has been building with Farise is finally here. Minalan has so many balls in the air (what else is new?) but this time, it feels as if there just might be too many things happening at once - and something is bound to slip.
Between his secret identity of Mirkander the Magnificent coming to a close, the arrival of the Emissary of the three Alka Alon High Kings, a backstabbing bureaucrat set on eliminating what he considers a "nuisance", not to mention a Leviathan in the water with some questions from the Vundel - Minalan just might have his hands a bit too full.
This was another fantastic addition to the series that kept the storyline moving at breakneck speed, continued on advancing many of the storylines and once again, set Minalan up as being the wizard responsible for saving the world. What else is new?
John Lee did his usual fantastic performance as the narrator, and he truly has become the voice of the series. As usual, this book ends with a major cliffhanger - even though we can be pretty sure that the outcome is not necessarily what it was projected to be (but that is just my opinion....I could always be wrong) It just makes me that much more impatient to get Book 19.
I think this book had just about everything i had been expecting and hoping for. Thoroughly enjoyed it with one or two issues that I will address in the paragraph below. Dont read if you have not read it yet!
Overall great. My only issues were that (1) I was hoping the issue of who gets the various "spoils" from Tavard and Terlemans bust up would be resolved and i was hoping to read that juicy little scene plus any consequences that arose because of it. I guess thats still to come in another book - fine. (2) I am a little irritated that for the second time somone can STILL sneak up on the most powerful mage in the world who possesses a magolith who can stop a Vundel pod in its tracks and stab him with a friggin knife. AND potentially ...though its still not clear if that happend..use that all powerful anullment spell to knock out his defenses....I mean SURELY with all the power he has access to we are past that stuff now??? Personal defence shields ? - I know he is not dead! 12 books to go and all that and Min the one that has to save the world etc etc so its not really a cliff hanger to threaten Min - it would almost have been better to watch the assasination attempt fail miserably in my opinion but anway those are my tiny gripes in what was for me one of the better books for a while..ton of fun.

If you’re browsing and looking for a new series and this is all new to you then you’ve got an awesome journey ahead. The series is not complete but it’s coming along very nicely. Its mostly epic fantasy, featuring humanity on a different planet than earth, a place called Callidor. The time period from human perspective is Middle Ages, so there are Kings, Queens, all sorts of titled nobility, religions are in the hands of monks and nuns and the average working class are low on the scale where fortunes are concerned. There are several other species living on Callidor, the original natives are the Vundel; massive seafaring leviathans, as well as the Alka Alon a species from another world similar to elves and several ‘client races’ in service to the Alka Alon. The main character is Minalan, the son of a baker who in his youth was discovered to have rajira - magical talent. His fortunes changed dramatically, he got training and was promptly conscripted, it’s his progress that is detailed in the series.
Such a brutal cliffhanger at the end of this book so be warned. Still I’m confident in the outcome.
So the previous book saw Minalan head off to Farise again, this time under the guise of Mirkandar The Magnificent the not so humble Practical Adept. He started as an ice merchant and in a roundabout manner became the new Doge of Farise. This book sees Farise preparing for war, the Duke of Merwyn has sent a huge fleet to capture Farise.
Minalan/ Mirkandar isn’t going to let that stand, King Rard tasked him with ending piracy in the region with as little bloodshed as possible. Ok so there is some bloodshed going on, because Azar was involved as were many of the old favourites amongst the war magi including at least one legendary war mage. Minalan is not a fan of seafaring and doesn’t know a huge amount about naval warfare but he knows people who do. He is nothing if not adaptable, besides he’s got an awful lot of other issues to handle at the same time as a war.
I confess I binged my way through this book in a couple of days, flippin’ awesome. Still it gives me time to reread the series before the next book!
I am posting this under Audio as I did listen, but I read the book at the same time so refer to pages. You should be 18 main books into the series before you read this, if not then this story will not be as meaningful for you. At 771 pages this is a decent read, but is essentially two books into one in my opinion. The two parts which are roughly equal in size are linked however. I read this at the same time as listening to it. The characters come out from the audio, but just listening is too passive for me. Terry gets us involved in battles and conflicts, then he cleverly gives our emotions a rest with humour and intermissions. There are epic moments in this book, which my mind conjured into images that are now burned into my memories. In the last book Practical Adept Minalan created an alias. The alias does things we know the King would not approve of, and we were left wondering, how will this play out. This does come to a head in Seamage. Through out all the narrative there is a sense of progress, not only in the short term but also in the long term to save the world, Callidore. Minalan The book ends in a very striking (hint) way, and leaves us with a cliffhanger. I do hope Terry is already writing the next in the series, or should I get our my black tie? Finally I really enjoyed Seamage, solid good entertainment, I would recommend it, but do read the whole series.
Book after book the story just gets more intriguing. I would love to sit down in a good tavern with this author and ask him a thousand questions about where he gets these amazing ideas from. I read a lot of books in this genre and so many series just kind of become stale after the first 4 or 5 but even after 18 books I am still so invested in this series that I can't wait to see what happens next!
is Terry becoming a litrpg author? The cliff in this book is peak litrpg, but without the multi chapter per week release schedule.
Min is a bit too old to be such an optimist. No one messes with the Spellmonger and enjoys the spoils for long, one guy will be responsible for the destruction of his whole organization and I literally can't wait for the next book.

The series continues to be very engaging. Seamage has some really epic moments but on the whole this book does not have super epic battles like the other books. I love the shift from Fantasy to Sci-fi. It's much more pronounced in this book. Ends with a cliffhanger but book 19 will be published in a few months so not too bad.
Friends. This is one of my absolute favorite series and it deserves far more recognition than it gets in fantasy circles. I truly feel that each book is better than the last, especially everything since Footwizard. That being said, Seamage is incredible and it exceeded my expectations in every way. It is the best entry in this entire series to date.
even though expected a nerve racking ending this was just too good
Amazing book. Always like the blend of logic n fantasy from the author. The series is always a source of seeing how a world can be administered in a logical way in the grey areas. It doesnt always have to be a dark vs light in fantasy.
Terry Mancour is an outstanding story teller. I feel as though I know Minalin. Now I need to wait for the next book. Intrigue, magic, plot twists. It is all here with humor tossed in.
This book represents a pivot point in the series. Now, we move from a magical series, to a space odyssey after the fact. I am excited to see how Min navigates through all of the actions of the IRIS.
This is an action packed book and it kept me engaged and wanting to read more. There are several key components that get resolved in this book and there is a major cliffhanger at the end. I am looking forward to the next book to see how the story develops.
This volume of the ongoing saga is excellent. It advances both the Forsaken and the Vundel story lines and has a shocking ending. Hopefully Mancour will get the next volume out quickly (and he usually does).
The Spell monger series has been one of my favorites for years and this installment is the best by far. Many kind hinted at subplots were brought to a head and an ending that will keep me awake for days!
It ceases to amaze me the thoughts behind writing this series. His storytelling and detail into all his work, absolutely outstanding, probably one of the best writers of this generation🙂
I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
I enjoyed the continued story of the Spellmonger. To anyone new to the series, only read this one when the next one is ready. Why you might ask? I can hardly wait to see what happens next!
