I’m clearly in the minority here but this book was terrible

Let me rephrase the book itself wasn’t bad but Riley and Nathan I absolutely hated! Riley was beyond pathetic and Nathan I didn’t buy for a second he genuinely had feelings for Riley. I hate books where it’s ridiculously obvious that the MMC is only interested cause she’s hot and that was the case here. First off neither of them have seen each other in years but Riley recognized Nathan immediately, but Nathan had absolutely no idea who she was he had to hear it to find out cause she was hot and he was expecting someone with acne and braces, you know someone he’d find unattractive. And then pathetic miss Riley gets excited when Nathan flirts with her calling it “a gift from god” but he didn’t even know it was you, he thought he was flirting with a hot stranger he met on the street not his best friend’s sister, as soon as he found out he regretted it and apologized for hitting on her. Next he was constantly calling himself her brother, and in his words “it felt right”. Also he also considers her as an authoritative figure. You know like a teacher or parent. Nathan’s feelings were also very insta lovey, if you read this book you can see he never saw her as anything more than a sister than like 5 chapters later he’s suddenly falling in love with her and wants to be her boyfriend further confirming my belief that he most likely wouldn’t be interested if she didn’t glow up

Also I genuinely don’t think Nathan knows what real love is! Half way into the book while having dinner with Riley and her coworkers he pretty much says it not rational to know what love is at the age of 12 or 13 and that if your a grown up who’s still crushing on someone from when you were like 12 or 13 you should move on, he then later talks about gifts he got (that he didn’t know were from Riley) and said they were obsessive and said that if he ever met the person who has been obsessed wit him since they was 12 he’d be scared cause they sound like a psychopath and a stalker so not only is he constantly insulting Riley (although unintentionally cause he doesn’t know about her crush ) but he himself “fell in love with Riley” in the span of a week despite seeing her as a sister for half his life so how does he know he genuinely is love with her and it isn’t just lust? Even when he unintentionally insults her saying it’s psychotic to have a crush on someone that long and pretty much calls her a creep it does nothing to the plot, you know what she does when pretty much being called psychotic by him? NOTHING! She feels bad sure but a couple hours later their officially dating.

This dude clearly did not see her as anything more than a little sister and it’s very obvious throughout the book. But of course when he sees someone is interested that’s when he gets interested. I needed Riley to move on she pined for this man for over a decade and he honestly would never have looked twice at her if she still had braces and acne. I can confidently say Riley’s glow up was the only reason he fell for her

This is definitely a “she fell first and pathetically harder”

Also this book was unnecessarily long! It’s almost 70 chapters for what? She’s been obsessed with him for years it’s not liked she’d need much convincing, and Nathan “fell in love with her” in a couple days the story just dragged for no reason

I loved it but it had a couple of things that just didn’t sit right. First, the constant problems that Nathan would do that wouldn’t be addressed UNTIL the end where it wasn’t that important anymore really bugged me. And how quick Nathan fell for her. Like with the other books in the series, at least one of the characters took their time falling in love. Whilst Riley already loved him and he fell within the first 10 chapters. AND THERE’S 67! So. But it wasn’t bad. I HOPE that Max and May have a book!!!!

I was ecstatic to see that the next book in this series had come out!! I love this world and small town that Lia has created and that each character has their own backstory and emotional growth arc.

Riley and Nat were meant to be from the start whether they realized it or not 🥹 I loved that they found their rhythm together and their places in life and their passions.

I’m excited to see what happens next with May 👀
