A Quick Read with Leadership Lessons You Can Apply Immediately
As a creative entrepreneur, I wondered if a book written by corporate leadership would translate to my world. It absolutely does.
Mindset Matters is a clear, practical guide to the thinking patterns that shape successful teams and businesses. What stood out most to me was the concept of backcasting, starting with the end result and working backward to make it real. One example describes creating a future newspaper headline celebrating a team’s success. That simple shift in perspective helps people stop asking “How could we ever do this?” and start thinking “We did it, how did we get here?” It’s a powerful way to reframe challenges. And as a creative, it’s a fun way to design the future!
Another idea that resonated with me was the concept of “swirling.” As someone who is a perfectionist , I know how easy it is to get stuck analyzing a decision instead of moving forward. The book explains clearly when striving for perfection becomes counterproductive and why decisive action often matters more than squeezing out the last few percent of improvement.
The writing is clear, the examples are practical, and the contrast between effective and ineffective leadership behaviors makes the lessons easy to recognize in real life.
If you’re building a business or leading a team, this book offers practical ideas you can start using immediately. I highly recommend this book!

As a career veteran in the marine industry, I really enjoyed this book and admire what Bill Yeargin has done for the industry. Excellent read.
