This is a helpful resource teaching churches how to minister to families with children or other relatives on the spectrum. It helps heighten sensitivity of how to best minister to the families and individuals who face the challenges of autism.

The author also offers helps for families, who have loved ones on spectrum, to know how to best advocate for their loved one in the church environment and how to navigate the challenges of church attendance and participation while involving, rather than excluding the neurodiverse loved one.

I have a child with autism who is very high functioning but it still presents problems at times with being aware of the needs of others due to the “obsessions” that consume his thoughts. Those “obsessions” can be troubling, worrisome thoughts or they may be the topics in which he delights but not necessarily as interesting to others.

His plans are to go to seminary and become a pastor and he can absolutely do this, but he also will need to become more aware of on whom he is most focused while he is ministering.

He will ultimately need to learn some things this book DOESN’T address. As a matter of fact, when I read the title and topic of this book to him, he took interest, yet he said, “Someone needs to write a book on how to MINISTER as one who is ON the spectrum.” To which I responded: perhaps he will be the one to write it as he learns and implements what he learns as he ministers!
