A dark romantic comedy that’ll have you rooting for the golden retriever serial killer and black cat good girl.
All Wes wants is to make sure his big brother stays safe while they carry out their dark eliminating the worst men alive—something they started after their family’s murder a decade ago. He also happens to bake a killer award-winning apple pie.
Callie is done with her crime family and a marriage she never wanted. All she needs is her husband to sign the divorce papers and return her late mother’s precious emerald ring. When he vanishes instead, she does the only logical thing—hire a criminal to help her.
But Callie panics before meeting him in person and decides to follow him to his isolated Maine cabin instead. In her defense, she didn’t plan to get herself drugged and zip-tied in front of his warm, cozy fire—she truly is the worst stalker—facing a gorgeous, smiling man who carries logs while masked and offers her hot chocolate.
Once Wes realizes she isn’t a threat (just very bad at crime), he agrees to help Callie find her husband and promptly falls for her, hard and fast. As danger closes in and Wes’s protective instincts turn obsessive, Callie finds herself falling for the one man who understands what she wants and needs. She must decide if she can choose love without losing herself, and Wes must decide if loving her means letting her go.
I received an ARC copy of A Little Bit Obsessed by Chrissy Hopewell, and I honestly did not expect to finish it in one sitting. I went into it fully planning to stretch it over a couple of days, but the second I started, I was HOOKED. Every time I told myself “okay, just one more chapter,” I immediately picked up my kindle to read another one (or three) 😅
Wesley and Callie’s slow burn was so well crafted. Their chemistry built so naturally, and every little moment between them had me grinning like 𝘐 was the one in the story. Also, Wesley’s golden retriever energy was absolute top tier. Golden Retriever Boy x Black Cat Girl is not usually a trope I gravitate toward, but this book may have converted me because Wesley was impossible not to love.
Also, the spicy scenes were 𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘧’𝘴 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘴. Each scene was perfectly balanced with the emotional tension and buildup, which made each scene hit even harder.
My only complaint is that now I desperately need Wes’ apple pie recipe because I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I finished the book.
Do yourself a favor and pre-order A Little Bit Obsessed by Chrissy Hopewell, fully releasing on May 25th 🩷🥧
I am (not just) a little bit obsessed with this book, it was dark and stalkerish but also extremely funny and had me laughing out loud the entire time. Because what do you mean he’s a vigilante serial killer and assassin, but also loves baking pies and constantly competes with an old lady for 1st place on pie contests. I love a good dark romcom, this book gave Butcher and Blackbird vibes which I adored. She’s looking for someone who can find her abusive ex husband, and ends up getting an obsessed stalker instead. It’s hilarious how Wes is so golden retriever yet so unhinged. He also has absolutely no sense of social cues, yes there’s a girl watching me outside my door, I’ll just drug and zip tie her. But make no mistake, this man is as obsessed as they get and will burn the world for her. Their chemistry is off the charts, and the “will they or won’t they” had me on the edge of my seat. There were some great plot twists as well, and I damn cried because I got so caught up int he characters and the angst. I really loved Noah, he’s just as unhinged (probably even more crazy), and I can’t wait to see what kind of insane stuff he gets up to if he gets a book. This book was a masterpiece of a story and I give it a 5/5
I went into this book completely blind, never having picked up a Chrissy Hopewell novel before, and by the time I finished, I was obsessed. Wesley and Callie’s relationship unfolded with such effortless pacing that every interaction between them felt meaningful. Their connection wasn’t forced or rushed; it grew slowly through lingering glances, quiet conversations, protective gestures, and the kind of tension that keeps you smiling at your screen like you’re personally invested in their love story.
Wesley completely stole the show for me. On paper, he should be terrifying — he’s dangerous, obsessive, and fully capable of violence — yet somehow he’s also unbelievably warm, attentive, and oddly comforting. The contrast between his criminal side and his soft golden retriever personality made him impossible not to adore. Between his goofy charm, devotion to Callie, ancient cat Sir Fluffy, and constant pie baking, I honestly understood why Callie fell as hard as she did.
And Callie? I loved her. She’s spent her entire life surrounded by criminals through her father, brother, and husband, but all she wants is freedom and a normal future far away from that life. Her plan to leave everything behind and become a librarian felt so grounded and believable, which made her growing attachment to Wes even more compelling. She knows he represents the very darkness she’s trying to escape, yet he’s also the first person who truly sees her, protects her, and loves her without hesitation.
The black cat girl and golden retriever boy dynamic normally isn’t my favorite trope, but this book may have changed my mind permanently. Wesley and Callie balance each other perfectly. She’s guarded and cautious while he’s affectionate, loyal, and completely gone for her from the start. What made their romance hit so hard was the emotional vulnerability underneath it all. Both of them are terrified of becoming unforgivable in the other’s eyes, and watching them slowly learn acceptance and trust was genuinely beautiful.
The chemistry between them was unreal. Every intimate scene felt earned because the emotional buildup was already simmering long before anything physical happened. The spice never overshadowed the story; it amplified the tension and emotional stakes in the best possible way.
I also flew through this book because the plot constantly pulled me forward. The search for Callie’s missing husband, the secrets Wes hides, and the looming danger around them kept me hooked from beginning to end. Even when I wanted to slow down and savor certain moments, I couldn’t stop turning pages because I needed to know what would happen next.
If I had one small criticism, it’s that a few scenes could have benefited from a little more room to breathe, while certain lines occasionally felt overly drawn out. But honestly, none of that stopped me from loving the story overall.
And one final thing: someone needs to hand over Wes’s apple pie recipe immediately because the constant mentions of Ruth’s streusel-topped pie have been haunting me since I finished this book.
Now I’m desperately waiting for Meadow and Noah’s story because those two already have me invested.
Let me just start out by saying I have not read a Chrissy Hopewell novel before, and I was utterly unprepared for what was going to transpire on the pages.
Wes is a criminal. A killer. But he’s so.. sweet. Protective. Charming.
Our girl, Callie, does not stand a chance.
Though maybe I’m biased, I too am a black cat girl married to a golden retriever and I just love that dynamic.
I love how it isn’t rushed, that they have a chance to go through the various stages of a budding relationship.
Callie and Wes have a relationship that is deeply forgiving on both sides, each character desperately trying not to cross the boundary they deem unforgivable. Her wanting a normal life, him wanting her to understand he’s protective, not harmful.
But these two are perfect, they complete each other. Nothing is too much for Callie. She loves her stalker’s shadow almost as much as the man himself, and Wes is fiercely loyal over a girl who has had nothing but heartache. It’s time for someone to love Callie, to support her and save her, even from herself.
I am beyond excited to see a book for Callie’s half sister, Meadow, and Noah, Wes’s brother. They seem cute together and I cannot wait to read their story!!
The only thing on my list of cons, which is very short, was some sentence structure was a little dragged out, and a few things rushed that I think should have had a few more paragraphs or lines, which is why it fell a half star short for me. But this is totally my own perception, and I want to explain that the plot is fully deserving of 5 stars!
And.. how BADLY I am craving an apple pie, especially Ruth’s — is that wrong? I just LOVE a streusel topping..
But the story had me hooked, and I devoured this book in a few hours because I just needed to know the next big that was going to happen!
I will DEFINITELY be diving into the next book with much enthusiasm!!

From the very first page I was drawn into the story and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. I loved Callie and Wes's chemistry and I could tell that underneath Wes's hard outer shell that underneath it all he was a big softie. I found the story easy to follow and the pacing was just right. Overall a brilliant novel that I highly recommend to other readers. 💝 Thank you to Hambright PR and the author Chrissy Hopewell for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve been seeing an increase in my booktok of reviews of stalker books.. and I’ll have to admit I was a little freaked out about it. I am adamant about not book shaming people. I’m a firm believer in “to each their own” but I didn’t think I would personally like it. This book was like a soft introduction into the trope and I have to say.. I didn’t hate it. In fact, I found it kind of adorable.
Callie has grown up around danger. Her father, brother and husband are deep in the criminal underworld but she doesn’t want anything to do with it anymore. She’s looking to divorce her husband and move across the country to start a new, legal life as a librarian. However, her husband has disappeared and she needs help finding him so she can get him to sign the divorce papers. So she enlists the help of an online hacker to find him. When they meet, there is an instant attraction between them. Wes comes off as sweet with his goofy smile, old cat named Sir Fluffy and obsession with baking pies. But what she doesn’t know is that he’s actually a serial killer with stalker tendencies. As they go deeper in the search for her husband, their feelings for each other grow but when she learns his secrets, she has to decide if she wants to follow through on her plan to run away or stay and embrace the criminal world.
As I mentioned earlier, this isn’t something I’ve read before and I was a little unsure but the way the author portrayed Wes made him very likable. He only murdered bad guys and I ended up rooting for him. He has an emotional backstory and it totally justifies everything he does. His obsession with Callie is also very cute and the fact that she was just as obsessed with him (to the point where she stalked him back) made their love story kind of endearing. This was a great intro to the trope and I think I might read another??
This one started out great, I was immediately hooked and loving the messy and interesting dynamic between brothers. Wes was silly, sweet and absolutely unhinged, and it set this up as a fantastic read. Callie was a bit of a mess, floundering after being with an awful husband, and just trying to get her life back on track.
Unfortunately as the story progressed I found myself starting to grow frustrated with both of the leads. Wes was constantly reminding himself that he was a good guy - and a serial killer. It got to be repetitive and cliche when it was pies, stalking, and nice guy internal monologues over and over again. Callie, despite being an entertaining lead, definitely fell into the "too dumb to survive" category, which made her a really frustrating character to get into. She was constantly doing things that not only someone crime-adjacent wouldn't do, but also just any woman with common sense.
From there, the pacing stalled out in the middle with the plot focused on finding her husband, and got a bit bogged down by multiple recaps of what had already happened. From there, it all wraps up in an overly convenient conclusion, that had me wishing there was more depth overall.
All in all, this was an okay and entertaining read, but not something that I'll be obsessing over. I'll most likely still read the next book to see if the writing style has improved though, as there was potential.

I was sent a complimentary advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to Hambright PR for sending this my way!
I was lucky enough to receive a ARC and started reading this the second it dropped in my email.
I feel like this is quite a light dark romance book in the sense that yes there is stalking and the MMC & brother are serial killers but it is almost sweet and not dark themes like some books - I feel like anyone who has read a few dark romance books will totally get where I’m coming from with this!
This is a slow-burn book and there is a lot of focus on the emotional side of a relationship instead of just lust. The MMC really does care about the FMC from the beginning and he is honestly the sweetest human.
The plot itself is great and easy to follow whilst still keeping you entertained. This book is very well written and I’d happily read another book by Chrissy again, in fact I’ll be keeping an eye out for Noahs story when it’s released.
The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars was I felt like some of the scenes with FMC’s family and friends were minimal and more background noise and could easily have been left out of the book if the author wanted. I think that it’s trying to play into the fact that the FMC has always felt that she was invisible in her family but there was quite a repetitive nature to her conversations with her brother and him always refusing to answer and clearly being quite absent from her life. That being said it doesn’t take away from the book itself and I’d happily recommend this book.
Oh my gosh this was HILARIOUS! When going into the ARC read, clearly there were so many things to grab your attention right from the get-go. When you read the blurb, you obviously see what's coming but what you don't realize? Is that the blurb you're reading is legitimately the first quarter of the book! There's still SO MUCH MORE to entertain you.
Now think hard on this: You've contacted a hacker in order to find your would-be-ex-husband who just so happens to be hiding from you. For what reason, you don't know. You just know you need him to sign the papers so you can move on with your life. But in finding the hacker, you've also found yourself the study of his attention now. Right at the center of it. And considering just how good he is at BOTH of his jobs, one of which is not something spoken about at the dinner table, you're not only the center of attention. You're cause and effect for his now overly protective behavior as well.
Get ready for THAT ride. Because once you're on it? You can't (and wouldn't want to) get off of it!
There's much more to put in here, but I don't want to spoil the read. I will say that it's so perfectly put together with the kind of bickering and picking at each other that makes me giggle and kick my feet up in the air, laughing loudly through the day (possibly to the detriment of my neighbors? Too bad!) and a few spicy scenes that will absolutely make you fan your face because whew! Hot hot hot!
5⭐ REVIEW — A Little Bit Obsessed by Chrissy Hopewell
This book doesn’t ease you in—it pulls you straight into the chaos and makes you stay there.
The MMC was dealt a completely unfair hand in life. Everything about him feels shaped by survival, loyalty, and the kind of choices no one should have to make. He’s not just dark;he’s burdened, carrying a history that explains him even when it doesn’t excuse him. You can feel how much he’s been forced to become something dangerous just to keep breathing.
And the FMC? She was born into the wrong family from the start. Wrong name, wrong legacy, wrong expectations. She’s trying to outrun a life that was decided for her long before she had a say in it.
They shouldn’t work. They really shouldn’t. Everything about them is wrong on paper, dangerous, complicated, messy. But they fall anyway. Hard. Fast. Completely.
And when she finally finds out who he really is… what he does, and what he and his brother are capable of… everything shifts. The fear is real. The stakes are real. And so is his terror that she’ll walk away the second the truth fully lands.
But even in the middle of all that chaos, there are moments where time slows down just the two of them existing in something that feels too real to survive. Like the world forgets to interrupt them.
Because the truth could destroy everything between them…
or it might be the only thing strong enough to hold it together.
ARC provided by NetGalley to review. Thank you NetGalley and Chrissy for the opportunity to read!!
Mark your calendars for 5.25 you don’t want to miss this one.
“We’re hobby serial killers, which I realize sounds a bit fucked up. No one pays us to k*ll people. We do it for the greater good” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 Tropes: Black cat FMC Golden retriever MMC Pies pies and more pies Forced proximity (because he stalks her) She *attempts* to stalk back Unhinged banter Cat named Sir fluffy Bunny named Honey Bunny Good girl librarian from a crime family 80 year old arch nemesis (fuck you Ruth)
I could not put this book down! I finished it within 24 hours and was laughing and kicking my feet the whole damn time. A Little Bit Obsessed is exactly what it says, a dark romcom with an absolutely hilariously unhinged MMC.
Callie is a good girl black cat librarian from a crime family that just wants leave get a divorce from her soon to be ex husband that’s hiding from her. Wes is the hacker that she hires to find her soon to be ex little does she know he is also a serial killer who has a slightly….obsessive… personality. Who also bakes an award winning apple pie. Can a serial killer be a walking green flag??? Well apparently yes he can be.
These two fit together so perfectly and it really is such a fun read that gives that dark romance I love while also giving the sweet vibes that keep me reading and craving more
This book felt like if a Hallmark movie got locked in a cabin with Dexter and somehow came out wearing pink glitter and combat boots. A Little Bit Obsessed was chaotic, hilarious, unhinged, and weirdly wholesome in the “he’d commit felonies for her” kind of way.
Wes is the ultimate golden retriever psychopath. One minute he’s zip-tying Callie to a chair, the next he’s offering her hot chocolate like an anxious husband at a ski lodge. The emotional whiplash? Delicious. The man is equal parts tattooed menace and cinnamon roll with a body count. 🫠
And Callie? Absolute black cat queen energy. She’s sharp, guarded, sarcastic, and somehow perfectly matched to Wes’s obsessive devotion. Their chemistry crackled from page one. Every interaction felt like flirting with a knife pressed to your throat…while someone pulls an apple pie out of the oven.
The humor in this book deserves its own standing ovation because I was laughing one second and clutching my chest the next. The dark comedy balanced perfectly with the romance and suspense without losing the emotional depth underneath all the murder and mutual yearning.
Tropes served HOT: 🖤 Black cat x golden retriever 🔪 Morally gray serial killer MMC 🎭 Masked stalker romance 🏚 Forced proximity ☕ “I kidnapped you but made cocoa” energy 🩸 Touch her and die
This book was feral in the best way possible. A little twisted. A little cozy. A lot obsessed. And honestly? Same.

My thoughts of the book 💭
Thank you to Chrissy Hopewell, Fox Hollow publishes and netgalley for letting me read A little bit obsessed.
I devoured this like a sweet apple pie 🥧 Chrissy is new to me author and now very much on my radar. I felt the two main characters had so much chemistry together. I loved their dynamics together the black cat and golden retriever worked so well. I adored Wes he's a killer he only kills the rotten ones but he's adorable, sweet and kind too. I love the stalkerness of this or the lack of it ... Looking at you Callie. This was a fun dark romcom, definitely on the fluffy side like sir fluffy. It was full of humour and sweetness.
My favourite quotes 🗨️
"I'd burn the world down for you, Calliope. Do you know that?" "What the fuck am I doing here? I'm fueled by anger and spite, which is what I'm mostly made up of these days. I'm like three rabid raccoons in a trench coat." "This is like a fucked-up hallmark movie ending, but can we put a pin on your celebration for now? Noah sighs dramatically. Because we gotta deal with this asshole before you two can fuck."
This is definitely worth a read and I can't wait to read book 2, and read more of Noah.
Little Bit Obsessed by Chrissy Hopewell is a dark rom com, though I’d personally place it on the lighter side of the genre. It’s a quick, easy read that I flew through in about one and a half sittings.
Wes was a pretty lovable MMC. I mean… the apple pie alone? Beyond the questionable behavior and slightly unhinged vigilante tendencies, he had a genuine sweetness. I really enjoyed the way he and the FMC balanced each other out, and watching their relationship unfold led to plenty of funny and entertaining moments.
One thing that did start to wear on me a bit was how often Wes reassured himself through his inner monologue that he was a “good guy.” I understood why it was there and what the author was trying to convey about his mindset, but after a while it started to feel a little repetitive and took me out of the story at times.
The humor was a little hit or miss for me personally, but overall I still found this to be a fun and lighthearted take on the dark rom com genre. Beneath the chaos and obsession, there’s actually a wholesome and heartfelt relationship at the center of it all, which gave the story a nice balance. If you enjoy quirky morally gray characters and a lighter dark rom com experience, you might like this.
Thank you to Hambright PR and the author Chrissy Hopewell for this ARC. All thoughts are entirely my own.
A Little Bit Obsessed by Chrissy Hopewell — ARC Review 🔪🖤🥧
If you threw Dexter, This Girl's a Killer by Emma C. Wells, and Sweeney Todd into a blender with dark humor, obsession, murder, and a cozy cabin in Maine… you’d get A Little Bit Obsessed.
Wes is basically a golden retriever serial killer with an apple pie recipe and attachment issues, while Callie is a black cat heroine who is absolutely terrible at crime but impossible not to root for. Their chemistry was chaotic in the best way possible.
What really pulled me into this story was how self-aware the characters were about their darker tendencies and flaws. The book balances humor, violence, obsession, and romance surprisingly well, and somehow still manages to feel weirdly cozy at times.
Also… a masked man offering hot chocolate while you’re zip-tied in front of a fire? The vibe was unhinged and immaculate. 😭
✨ Tropes/Vibes: 🔪 Morally gray characters 🖤 Dark romantic comedy 🏚 Cozy cabin setting 🥧 Golden retriever x black cat 💍 Crime family drama 😮💨 Obsessive/protective MMC ⚠️ Touch her and die energy
Overall, this was such a fun, chaotic ride that kept me hooked from start to finish.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 stars
Have you ever read a book where you knew the characters were red flags… but rooted for them anyway? 👀
This was exactly what you want if you enjoy books like Lights out. I truly enjoyed Wes with all his golden retriever energy. Zip ties, stalking, adorable pets, Pies, and other hobbies are all included.
Callie wants a fresh start away from a husband who is absolutely awful, a brother who isn't helping her, and the memory of her father who passed. She isn't necessarily naive but there are moments I wanted to say "what are you doing woman?"
Wes is a green flag stalker and honestly Callie really did seem to need being watched over. She does the classic I shouldn't like this but she does ofcourse.
Wes and Noah are the type of men who are doing something bad but only to the people who deserve it. Noah has tunnel vision at times and you see why Wes feels the need to watch and try to reason with him.
The pet duo were so cute and so were the names Sir Fluffy and Honey Bunny. Side note Ruth is diabolical with her grandma persona with the possibility of a dark past.
I am looking forward to seeing Noah and Meadow. I do hope to see Jake, Meadow, and Callie bond in the future. I also hope Noah, Sia, and Wes can mend in the next book.
*ARC reader and will keep an eye out for future releases from this author. :)
This title is VERY on point - I am a little bit obsessed with this dark new series, and the characters in it!!
I have enjoyed every book from this talented and creative author, so when she moved her skills into one of my favorite sub-genres, I couldn't get my hands on it fast enough!!
Wes and his brother Noah aren't your typical heros. In fact, they're pretty lethal if you're on their list. That said, it was easy to love them and enjoy this storyline. Callie finds herself asking Wes for help locating her husband, so she can divorce him, and unwittingly gains herself a sta!ker.
These pages turned themselves as I happily followed their decisions to end some despicable men who’ve done some nasty things, all in the name of justice. Callie and Wes's steamy chemistry and easy attraction to each other was fun and I needed their HEA desperately!
The twists and turns in the storyline kept me engaged and wondering how the pieces would allign, and I am thrilled with how this wrapped up. SOO good. I can't wait for Noah's story next.
I recommend this read, this author, and suggest diving into her catalog for more unforgettable characters.
I received an ARC (thank you) and happily leave my thoughts.
I was chosen to be an arc reader. Thabk you so much for the privilege it was awesome. Oh my god!!! I started this book with so many high expectations based off the descriptions. Let me start off with how do i get a pie baking stalker of my own i cant even with wes. Like new book boyfriend or what i mean super talented he bakes, great with technology, loves animals, does bad things for good reasons and deeply cares about his family to do anything and everything. I started this book Sunday and between three kids and working i have finished this book in two days. I just couldn’t put it down it felt as if everything kept coming together and i couldn’t figure out what the next great thing to happen was gonna be. It had the perfect balance between dark and stalker ish to ooey gooey lovey dovey. Also the part about what ruth says to wes at the pie competition has me rolling still would not expect that from my grandma or anyones for that matter. I genuinely cannot wait to see what happens between noah and meadow.
- Dark (on the lighter side) RomCom - Morally Gray MMC - Golden Retriever Energy MMC - Good Serial Killer Brothers - Insta-Lust/Attraction - Stalking (MMC end)
A fast-paces, romcom, bit of stalking, one-sitting read!
I genuinely found this book funny. Like Wes and his inner thoughts were a joy to read, especially when he was talking with his brother or bantering with Callie (our FMC).
Although I didn’t feel the chemistry deepen between our MCs, I still enjoyed their relationship. I also loved the plot line of a woman hiring basically a hitman to find her husband so she could divorce him, while the two fall in love in the process. Add in the mask kink and being tied up, it was pretty fun to read.
I had a bit of an issue with Callie’s character development because I was starting to see her grow out of her “fragile” state around the 40% mark but after passing 50% she just went back to being scared. Like you grew up in a crime family and saw it all but are still not use to the idea of it all???? That didn’t make sense to me.
A Little Bit Obsessed, by Chrissy Hopewell, is the first book in the Little Bit Unhinged series. If you like a good dark rom com, I highly recommend this book, I ate it up. Wes is a golden retriever MMC, but also a serial killer, he also has a love of baking apple pies, and his rescue cat. Then there is Callie, the FMC, she is part of a family that is very immersed in the criminal underbelly of Boston, but she wants no part of it. She is also trying to get out of her loveless marriage, but her husband has disappeared, so she can’t get him to sign the divorce papers. So, in hopes of finally getting out from under her husband’s thumb, she hires Wes, who is good at finding people. However, their first encounter isn’t what either of them expected. This book had me laughing throughout, I really enjoyed it. The only downside of this book is there is a bit of repetition, but the story line and characters are so good, it was easy to look past that aspect. I can’t wait for book two in 2027.
The entire vibe honestly gave me Butcher & Blackbird mixed with Lights Out, and I was absolutely here for it. The banter and flirting between the characters were SO good, and the spicy scenes were genuinely delectable!
Also… it’s a damn good thing I don’t like mince pie because WOW!!
The twists in this book had me spiraling too. Finding out Shane’s dad was the one who killed the boys’ family??? And then the boys killing not only Shane’s dad but Shane too?? As they should honestly hehe.
And as an animal lover, Sir Fluffy and Honey Bunny becoming best friends absolutely melted my heart.
I’m also fully in my theorizing era now because how much do y’all wanna bet Scorpion is Meadow?! I desperately need Noah and Meadow to hit it off in the next book.
The only thing I’m still unsure about is Jake because something about him just did not fully add up to me.
Overall, this book was dark, chaotic, spicy, funny, and ridiculously entertaining all at once, and I had such a fun time reading it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love a good serial killer romance. I know there’s some twister part of my brain that’s listened to many podcast and true crime things but I love a good serial killer story. So when presented with the opportunity to read a romcom version, I just had too!
To say I wasn’t prepared was an understatement. I fell in love with this book from the beginning. It’s a slow paced romance with so much heart and just plain fun! Wes is the most adorable serial killer I have ever read about. I just wanted to just put him in my pocket. And if Wes is adorable j don’t even know what to say about Callie. Sweet, slightly unhinged and just endearing. I could not put this book down.
I laughed so much and got all emotional and just don’t have enough good words to describe it. It has been one of the funnest reads I have read in the last year and I am already ready for the next one!
I was more than a little bit obsessed with this book!! This may be the best romance I've read this year, I couldn't put it down! Callie and Wes had so much chemistry. The slow burn was so well done and when the spice finally hit, there was so much emotion behind it that it was absolutely perfect. Wesley was such a layered character, he was so funny but also an unhinged serial killer. Going from killing bad men with his brother, to baking apple pies and bickering with an 80 year old woman was hilarious. I really liked Callie, she was so relatable in the way she wanted to step away from her criminal family and become a librarian. She was so sweet, but I also loved that she had a bit of an attitude with Wes. It made some hilarious scenes! I ended up binging this book because I couldn't stop, I got so invested in these characters and where the story was going. I cannot wait for Noah and Meadow to get a book!
This was so cute!! Its more like a lighter darker romance, has some dark romance tones like stalking but I wouldnt say theres a ton of trigger warnings!!
I thought the relationships between Wes and Callie was so cute and it definitely was a slow burn. I'd say this book is lighter on the spicy side and goes more towards their emotional connection than anything. I also really enjoyed the story of revenge and finding out about who murdered the boys family! The relationship between Wes and his brother were also interesting, loved the banter between the two of them! I also like that his brother is just happy for Wes! I do really love that this was different than your typical stalker book where the guy is all angry etc but Wes is just a sweetheart 😭
I binged this in a few hours because I thought it was a really fun read!!! Appriciate the advance copy of this 🫶🏻
I received an advanced copy of this book from Hambright PR
I usually don't sign up for arcs from authors I've never read before, but that blurb just captivated my attention and I had to do it. I'm so glad I did! I'm not going to give a recap of the story as the blurb gives you enough and I don't want to spoil anything, but I will say that this is one of the funniest books I've ever read. Starting with the dedication. I absolutely loved that! I highlighted so many lines in this book, much more than I usually do, and starting with the dedication. I laughed and snort laughed throughout the book. It was such a crazy, twisty story that had me finishing it in just a few hours. My only disappointment is that I have to wait until next year to get the next book!
Highly recommend, especially for fans of the Lights Out series. Similar vibes, completely different stories.
ARC review: So how do you like your apple pie? With ice cream or custard? Or served alongside a tall, dark-haired, muscular, tattooed man who baked it himself and casually rids the world of bad people?
I’ll go the latter thanks, and ps… his name is Wes.
“A little bit obsessed” is the story of Wes and Callie who meet when Callie hires stalker and secret s3r!al k!77er Wes, to track down her criminal husband so she can divorce him.
What happens from there is a sweet little love story, filled with laughs, bodies and some harmless stalking (mutual, however one is much better than the other).
This was such a lighthearted, fun, dark-rom com. Callie was fighting demons trying to break away from her criminal family while Wes is locked in psychological warfare with 80 year old Ruth Roy for top spot in the Portland Springfest pie competition. Pure chaos, very unhinged, very enjoyable.
POV: dual first person Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5 MF, no cheating Tropes: golden retriever serial killer, cat dad, bunny rabbit mom, failed stalking, obsession level stalking, tattooed masked man, morally grey behavior, award winning apple pies HEA: yes If you liked lights out, you’ll love this! This was one of the funniest ROM-COMs I’ve ever read. The inner dialogue was top tier and the banter was so good between the amazing main characters. The spice sprinkled in wasn’t over the top but you get a little something here and there without it being smut. The storyline was good- never got boring but also wasn’t predictable. Again; absolutely great romantic comedy with just a bit of morally grey activity. Do yourself a favor and read this one with
This book was absolutely insane in the best way possible. I came for the dark romance and serial killer MMC, but stayed for how genuinely hilarious it was. The humor balanced perfectly with the darker themes, and I found myself laughing out loud constantly at the banter, the absurd situations, and Wes casually being both terrifying and weirdly adorable at the same time.
Wes and Callie’s dynamic was EVERYTHING. A masked, morally gray killer offering hot chocolate to a zip-tied woman should not be this funny or this romantic, but somehow it worked perfectly. Their chemistry was addictive, the tension was incredible, golden retriever energy was unmatched.
Chaotic, dark, cozy, unhinged, and surprisingly sweet — this book completely hooked me from start to finish.
This was so freaking good! I laughed so much This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it so so much! Wes reminded me of Josh from lights out super stalkery with a heart of gold! Him and his brother are serial killers but for the right reasons so when Callie needs help finding her dbag of a husband he’s all for it What he didn’t expect was her stalking him before the met and she ended up being zip tied to a chair! Their banter is hilarious The spice is spicy!! We have texting and stalking on both ends! This was my first and won’t be my last by this author and I’m so happy I got to arc read! Also book 2 with Noah and Meadow will be just as good Noah is a grumpy guy and meadow seems like sunshine!
A Little Bit Obsessed felt like if Lights Out and Butcher & Blackbird had a chaotic little serial killer romcom baby. The banter, obsession, small-town vibes, lovable pets, and black cat x golden retriever energy had me completely hooked from the beginning. Wes baking pies while casually being a morally gray stalker/hacker serial killer hobbyist was somehow weirdly lovable, and honestly Callie matching his energy made this so entertaining. I definitely got frustrated with some of Callie’s choices near the end, but overall this was funny, dark, addictive, and now I’m emotionally suffering knowing the next book isn’t until 2027 because I NEED Noah’s story immediately.
