I received an advanced copy of the book, and thought I’d just give it a quick peruse, but quickly found myself being engrossed in the book and truly enjoying it. Being set in the 90’s, it was like being taken back into my high school days. The though process of the teenage main character was spot on, along with all the excitement and awkwardness of high school. The author captures all the mixed feelings and emotions, the hopes and dreams of a teenager—all the things you dealt with and thought you were the only one…just to realize that the experience was common and you were actually normal.
I appreciated the humor, the pace of the book, the character development and growth, and that the truths that can be taken from the book are timeless. I also was encouraged by how the main character wrestled with his faith and how it should translate to his life. I also appreciated the fact that not wasn’t a soppy happy-ending story where everything works out just as Hallmark movie would have you believe, but this was far more realistic and true to actual human experience.
I would recommend this as a great read for any teenage boy, or any of those of us who were one many a year ago. I would also recommend it for any mothers of teenage sons, to help understand the thought processes of your son. I would even recommend it for any girls who have ever wondered if there was anything actually going on in the head of that teenage guy you know…you’d be surprised.
