Control the invisible forces that dictate success.
Hughes’ manual on behavioral influence creates a "competence gap" so wide that any salesperson reading it will think themselves capable of international espionage and mind control. While the techniques are clearly effective, I would have preferred more examples of how they actually worked in the field instead of how someone might get a free coffee. The book’s great flaw is making complex skills seem easy, but as Hughes points out: information retention is not skill. It is a technical map that requires thousands of hours of real-world application to actually function, though one could read it like a self-help book and see immediate improvement in interpersonal communications.
I listened to the first few chapters on Audible, then I bought a physical copy to highlight and be able to study words. Worth every dime. This book fundamentally changed my perspective on many topics occurring in daily life. The first half/middle I feel is achievable with critically thinking and using the skills he taught. If studied to a point of understanding, it can be incorporated easily, the last half of the book I feel I need to go over again.
This is pure gold. The fact the amount of knowledge in this one single book is unbelievable. It gives you years if not decades of experience in academic knowledge, psychology, behavioral science, body language, interrogation, Influence.. you name it.
