Not that far from canon but written in a melodramatic way when there really wasn't that much melodrama. But still, it's a quick enjoyable read.

This book changes what happened since Jane's letter to Elizabeth does not arrive due to Jane's poor addressing of it. So Elizabeth does not yet know that Lydia has left Brighton with Wickham. She stays and continues her visit with the Gardiners to Derbyshire, Darcy, and Pemberley.
Of course, all of the Bingleys are there. Caroline is as annoying as ever. Georgiana does not like her but tries to not let it show. I do wish Louisa Hurst would step in every so often to reign in her sister. She and her brother know that Darcy will NOT marry Caroline no matter how much Caroline wants it.
Darcy invites the Gardiners and Elizabeth to Pemberley several times. Each time, Caroline is irritated and nasty.
Darcy gives Elizabeth most of his attention. And Elizabeth gives him most of hers. Both of them acknowledge without words the "quiet charge that was between them."
After dinner, the men and women went different ways. Miss Bingley smirked, spoke up and told about a big scandal in town. Then asked Mrs Gardiner if she thought the Bennets would fare well in such circumstances? Elizabeth and her aunt looked at each other, confused but staying circumspect. Eventually Mrs G asked what she was talking about. Caroline very gleefully told them that Lydia had eloped with Wickham. Elizabeth saw Georgiana startled and went to support her. Servants came in, as did Darcy who went to his sister who had fainted.
The Gardiners told Elizabeth that they must leave immediately. She got up and left Georgiana with Darcy.
Darcy stayed with his sister, helping her. Bingley told his sister to explain what happened and not to lie to him. Darcy got Georgiana to go to her room with help. Bingley read Caroline out, more than this reader has ever seen him do. It was what was needed! Then he sent her and the Hursts out of the room.
Darcy and Bingley went to Darcy's study.
The rest of the story is definitely worth reading! Don't skip this book! This book is short and the audiobook is 1h 34m.

Excellently written variation, a must-read for JAFF fans
This is one of the most well-written and affecting short variations that this readers has ever read. It seems to fill in the blanks that Austen’s Pride and Prejudice left to the readers’ imagination from Elizabeth’s time in Derbyshire with the Gardiners and before they left due to Lydia Bennet’s elopement.
Although in this novella, Elizabeth did not receive Jane’s letters informing them, entreating them to go home to face the disgrace of Lydia’s and Wickham’s actions, until after Elizabeth and the Gardiners had the magical dinner with the Darcys and Bingleys in Pemberley. It is during this dinner that Darcy and Elizabeth become acutely aware of each other. The way the author weaved the words of longing, yearning between them is magical and worthwhile the read in themselves.
As stated in the headline, a must-read for JAFF lovers, and brief enough for a quick perusal.

short and sweet
Quite a bit of poetic content full of romantic angst, story happens mostly at Pemberly months after the ‘refusal’. Caroline B’s evil machination decidedly lobbed w/pinpoint accuracy to do the most damage (i mean really how bout an author include in an epilogue an appro comeuppance for her plzzzzz — along w/the Wickhams double plz?) but both elder Bennet sisters eventually find canon HEA & found Darcy very much more emo open in this novella, which i always love to see. Recommend read 12+ age groups & Will read again
