David Pawson is one of the authors I like to read and listen. However, this commentary reads like a paraphrase most of the time. It can't compare for example with his commentary on Isaiah (which is my favorite). There is also inconsistency with his other works about the five covenants (with one of them called Old). Is the scripture which James quotes the "Old" testament?
However, there are two chapters on "Faith and Works" which I really appreciate and for me they worth the price of the whole book. A new reading about the second chapter of James is proposed. Unfortunately, author doesn't elaborate on Paul's view very much and just states that James and Paul talk about different things.
Pure Scripture study that widens our understanding!
Every time I go through a David Pawson study I come away with a greater love for God’s word, and a desire to go deeper into its precious lessons and truths. I highly recommend his study of James (and also Revelation)!
