This was one giant cheese fest.

The plot was simplistic, and the two MCs one-dimensional.

Ryan and Dar talk on the phone a few times, and they're totes IN LOVE! So in love, in fact, that Ryan, a big Hollywood actor and celebrity, is willing to come out of the closet, leaving stardom behind so he can be with Dar.

I like sweetness and low-angst, but the story line here just wasn't believable on any level.

Dar started pushing Ryan for a forever relationship the second time they met (which was the first time Dar realized that the Ryan he'd been talking to was really Ryan the Star with the Amazing Abs).

Don't get me started on Dar's obvious lack of critical thinking skills.

Then there was a giant misunderstanding, with Ryan pouting and Dar sulking, or maybe it was Dar pouting and Ryan sulking.

But, don't worry; that's magically resolved in 90 seconds or less because the real "villain" confesses all under pressure from the paparazzi.

The secondary characters read like puppets. Dar's friend Brett acts like he's 12, pushing Ryan to kiss him and squealing like a Disney princess. At the beginning, Dar talks to Ryan about Brett coming out to a girl who's been crushing on him, but Brett was portrayed as so over-the-top flaming, surely he wouldn't need to come out to anybody? He is basically a stereotype in motion.

Fiction doesn't need to mimic real life, but it should skirt the edges enough that readers can relate. This story failed on that count.

It felt slightly dated (mentioning an "ID monitor" on a phone, which screams 1999), and there was no tension or relationship building. After staying in the closet for years, Ryan is outed and a-ok with that.

Plus: COCK-MELTING ALERT!

Ryan clutched Dar's ass, slamming their hips together in cock-melting contact.

The idea here was cute. I kind of like the title and cover. I even enjoyed the beginning of the story, but it was too superficial to keep my interest.

I read the second edition of this story under the series Hollywood Hotties published by Totally Bound.

Could have been good but descended into nonsense towards the middle and never recovered.

I'm all for crazy, unlikely love stories. When I heard that this book was about a love connection starting from a wrong number phone call, I was all, "Count me in!" I was thinking this would be a cross between a Bluewater Bay story and The Truth About Riley. Score! However, despite a cute concept, this story never became anything substantial.

My biggest complaint about this one was my arch nemesis, the dreaded big misunderstanding. I HATE, LOATHE misunderstandings, and when the whole ending of the book is centered around one, I get grumpy. I also didn't get the train of thought that these guys had. There was a lot of back and forth and logic that didn't make sense between the two MCs.

Another issue: Instalove. *Shakes fist at sky* These guys went from zero to sixty in a hot second, and I was left wondering where all the relationship development went. I didn't get why these two guys loved each other and why they were changing their lives to be with each other after one date.

Despite my complaining, I don't think this story was all bad. There were some redeeming factors here. It was SUPER cute and sweet (like candy), so if you are looking for a read that makes you say "aww," then this might be okay for you. For me, it felt too dated (land lines??? Wha???) and rushed to ring true.

This short 83 page story started out likeable enough, with Dar misdialing his phone early one morning and connecting with sleep-addled Ryan, who just so happens to be Hollywood's hottest leading man, in town shooting scenes for his current film.

They hit it off and Ryan writes down Dar's phone number, because that's what all closet cases do. And eventually calls Ryan calls Dar up to talk over the next couple of nights. Because, evidently, that's also what closet cases do.

The eventually meet up for coffee and the chemistry is still there, so they end up falling into bed at Ryan's rental cottage. Then the paparazzi are tipped off and swarm the place like the flying monkeys from The Wizard of Oz, only to catch Ryan and Dar in post-coital kissing.

And Ryan nearly slams the door on Dar's ass, leaving him on the stoop at the mercy of the reports. Classy move, Ryan, classy.

From there, both men are hurt, but realize that they are in (insta) love with one another.

<< PS -- Is there a fire sale on *insta-love* this month, because that shit is in everything I've read lately? *sigh* >>

Anyway, Ryan pulls his head out of his ass and makes an over-the-top gesture to earn Dar's forgiveness, beginning with an actually good scene with a truck load of my-sorry-ass-is-sorry flowers.
One daisy for each freckle I’ve kissed. One black-eyed Susan for every day we were together. One purple-pair for each time I was in your arms. One purple and white crocus for each time I’ve thought of you since.
Flower flood, flower flood, flower flood. (But I did like that scene.)

My main issue with the book was the veritable *corny-copia* of Velveeta slathered amongst several pages.

For example:
movie-star-grade cock

cock-melting contact

Ryan’s hole fluttered seductively (*twitch-twitch*)

“I wish I knew how to quit you” (not annoying when originally in Brokeback Mountain)

And last, but most certainly not least:

“I promise to tend to your garden regularly, my love.”
“Don’t ignore my elm,” Dar warned.
“I didn’t realize elm trees had nuts,” Ryan mused. “But I promise to tend to them regularly.”
Yeah, not quite purple prose, but definitely a nice, pungent brie that I'd have preferred left out.

Less cheese = more stars, so this one gets 2.75 stars.

I liked this one but, to me, it was nothing special.

I enjoyed the characters and the plot is a unique one that had a lot of potential but the whole story felt a bit rushed to me. I think it should have had about 50 more pages on it since I would have liked to actually know these characters a little more. As it is, they aren't very deep in character development.

And, of course, with me there's almost always an issue with the sex. There's only two sex scenes in total but Holy Mother I felt like the first one lasted years! It kind of lessened my enjoyment of the book and made it somewhat of a chore to finish because the scene was so long and the story was so short. It just didn't balance well to me.

Other than that, I liked it. I'm debating whether or not to read the sequel but I believe this is something others will like. It's quick and easy and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, somewhat predictable book.

I am thinking Nothing Hill gay style...Why don´t they make movies like that?? Waaay sexier and cuter...it´s not like I don´t imagine every romantic movie with two guys instead of man/woman already...

What a stunningly lovely modern day fairytale. This was wonderful. The writing was fantastic and I loved the main characters..

The characters were so simply drawn they were complex in their simplicity. They acted as two grown, adult, mature men would act in their circumstances. No use of sex as a way of avoiding the situation, no tantrums, no easily avoidable misunderstandings or lack of communication. They were down to earth, solid, wonderful characters and I couldn’t get enough of them. Mia Watts pulled off a story in which both Ryan and Dar had so much feeling between them it was unbelievable, yet not once did they sound girly or better yet cheesy.

I'll leave you with one of the paragraphs that had me sighing so loud I startled myself. It might not be as profound out of context but it was so sweet in the book I felt the need to share:

“You have a great voice,” Dar acknowledged.
“So do you. And you laugh a lot. What makes you so happy, Dar?”
“I’m a simple guy. It doesn’t take much. Today the sun was shining, I walked into the office to the smell of hot cinnamon buns, and a client renewed their contract with me because they like my work.”
Ryan could almost sense the half-hearted shrug that seemed to come through in Dar’s words.
“And then I got this call from a guy I don’t know, but would really like to,” Dar finished quietly.

This one started off cute by having the two guys meet over the phone. But when they first meet it started to go downhill. Ryan and Dar meet for basically the first time, and they're on the verge of having sex when the one guys starts asking questions like where is this relationship going, what does this mean, I know you're in the closet but I'm not sneaking around for you etc. It was so ridiculous as they just met and it was pretty much unbelievable that men would act that way. But just like that, the next time they meet they're in this serious relationship and are instantly in love. Then at the end they had this big splashing coming out sort of ending. It was definitely high on the romantic cliche. The last actor I've heard who came out did so by having a nice exclusive magazine interview. No Hollywood agent would have you give a press conference to come out--there's no money in it, while magazines pay tons for exclusives. I thought that part was so dumb I skimmed over it. It's not a terrible book, but so disappointing considering the sparkly start.

This was a really cute book even though it was outrageously unrealistic. I really liked Ryan and Dar and even Brett, although I wanted to choke him in the beginning. Also, the first sex scene was HOT but the second one was kinda gross. Eww!

Overall, its a fun short read.

A few of my favorite lines:
"When you got the goods, it just oozes over the phone line. Too bad you never hooked up with this. ~ Dar

An interesting idea that had great potential, but it was too rushed and insta-lovey for me. I also thought Dar was oblivious and/or an idiot for not recognizing Ryan's voice, considering the information he had available.

And Ryan seemed to take way too many stupid, unnecessary chances for someone who claimed to want to stay in the closet. I'd have believed he was sabotaging himself out of a desire to force himself out of the closet, but there was nothing in the story that I thought particularly suggested that was what was really happening; instead, Ryan just seemed stupid.

So, yeah, two stupid guys who fall in love and live HEA with very little contact or reason. But despite rolling my eyes a lot, I did enjoy it.

I don't generally read short books and the reason why is obvious here: there's not enough time to develop a real connection between the MCs as well as the MCs and the reader. It all happens in the blink of an eye. Three phone calls, and those two are talking about a serious relationship; I couldn't get on board with that.

It was enjoyable otherwise and the writing wasn't bad, it just felt like there were pages missing.

💖 Aww this is a gorgeous story. Lady Fate helps Ryan and Dar connect together in a beautiful way. This author is gorgeous writting books she hasn't let me down yet.
Includes a mysterious call, sercet identity,  smokie voices, a connection between them, closeted actor, funny homoured moments, angst over which Ryan, Dar needed, and a huge finish.
Ryan receives a call early after a big night out. The caller thinks he's Jack..lol but keeps talking. Hmm name mixed up for Brett.
Dar had missed called the wrong number.

Mia Watts’ Wrong Number, Right Guy is a sweet little novella that plays into the fantasy: what if I met my favorite Hollywood movie-star and we fell in love? Now of course this book is a m/m romance, so the dynamic of that relationship is different than it would be if characters were a man and a woman because the Hollywood heartthrob is closeted, but in the end that doesn’t matter as love wins the day.

Despite a few misunderstandings, Dar and Ryan are immediately smitten with each other even before meeting face-to-face as their telephone conversations convey enough attraction to light a small bonfire. Then after they meet in person, the two men are well on their way to falling in love with each other. Although normally I am not one for Insta-Love plots, this one seemed to work since the book was only a 112 pages. I never felt Ryan and Dar’s relationship was forced or hurried, just the instant heat the two men felt as they spent time together. Ms. Watts expertly built the necessary attraction between the two main protagonists that sold me the story.

In spite of this being the first book by Mia Watts I have read, I know it will not be the last since her talent was evident throughout. The only thing I would ask her to do is write a sequel that features Dar’s friend, Brett. And maybe give us a glimpse into Ryan and Dar’s relationship a little further on down the road? This reviewer certainly hopes she will visit this universe again. 4 stars.

3.5 STARS

Wrong Number, Right Guy wasn't a bad book, but for me there just wasn't anything extremely pulling in it. The characters were very one dimensional, no depth, everything about them was laid on the table within the first chapter. There was the insta-love factor, which happens but Ryan was willing to give up everything after only meeting Dar once. The conflict was minimal.

I do love a m/m read, and it did have that. Wrong Number, Right Guy was a good pallet cleanser book. What I mean by that is, if I am stuck in one genre it's nice to pick something quick and light, completely different from what I was or what I am going to read to wipe my mind of that deeper darker book. Wrong Number, Right Guy did that for me.

I absolutely adored this book! It reminded me of Notting Hill in a way, only a gay version obviously :P

The characters were great, and I loved the beginning how it all started with a wrong number dialed. There were some funny lines throughout the story too. I thought it was written well and was a sweet, great read! Highly recommended!

This book was pure fluffy goodness and just what I needed today. Who doesn't dream of that random connection like a wrong number leading to Mr Right? Especially when Mr Right turns out to be a movie star. This was a quick read, but it was fun and sexy. A little mistaken identity, a little paparazzi drama, then HEA. Nothing felt rushed, even though it was only a little over 100 pages.

Hot but very short read. I loved the story and think it would have made a great novel with a bit more detail. The only complaint was Dar expecting too much too soon from Ryan, otherwise it was great for a lazy Sunday afternoon

4 star review by Dennis

Ryan Pierce is a famous action movie star loved and wanted by many but has nobody to come home to at night. While away filming on location he gets a phone call that shakes up his world, and it just happens to be a wrong number. The person on the other end of the phone is Dar Phillips. Dar thought he was calling his friend and before either one of them realized it was a wrong number sparks had flown and an attraction to each other bloomed.

After a long day of filming Ryan couldn’t stop thinking of the stranger on the other end of the phone and decided to call him and hope that Dar was up for some more conversation, and of course Dar being just as intrigued with Ryan was happy to oblige. Ryan told as much about himself as he could without actually giving away who he was. The reason for this was because Dar treated him like a real person and not like a Hollywood movie star. When they decide to meet in person, will things change, will Dar treat Ryan differently or will he still treat him as just a normal person?

Who hasn’t dialed a wrong number or gotten a call that’s a wrong number and was attracted to the voice on the other end of the line? This is exactly what happens between the characters Ryan and Dar, except instead of hanging up they spark up a conversation and not only does a conversation spark but so does an attraction to each other. I’ve always thought of doing just that when getting a wrong number but never have had the courage.

The story flows well and the happiness that Ryan and Dar bring into each other’s lives jumps off the page, and of course when dealing with a famous closeted movie star and the nosy paparazzi, so does the drama. The hurt that they both feel, you feel, and of course the stubbornness from both of them you want to just hit them and say snap out of it. I enjoyed how when Ryan did finally come to his senses, how he tried to make it up to Dar and win him back. Without giving too much away, it brought a tear to my eyes. I would recommend checking out and reading Wrong Number, Right Guy by Mia Watts. It’s a cute love story that has an accidental beginning.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3 stars

This story starts with a cute opening as Ryan tries to get a grasp on who is calling him. Because it is a shorter book, getting the guys to meet and having Ryan’s true identity revealed to Dar is not drawn out. The entire first part of the book held my attention and both Ryan and Dar have likable qualities to offer. It is when they actually meet and Ryan’s identity is revealed that the story starts to slide downhill for me. While the guys do have instant chemistry, they have only had a few phone conversations, and their first date evolves to a full on conversation about what their relationship means. I get that Dar is trying to protect himself from being hurt, but it was a little too much for me for their first date.

The story then descends into a true Hollywood tale. In fact, there are similarities to a movie that was released years back. I could have taken this story as just that, a Hollywood romance, but the ultimate storyline faltered for me in several areas. One area was after the paparazzi fallout, Dar cannot call Ryan again because the wrong number had been dialed from his landline and he does not know the phone number. I will go with the possibility that his landline does not capture the previous numbers dialed. But, any phone service provider will be able to tell you what numbers were dialed from your phone and this capability has been around for decades. If I am injecting too much realism into this it’s because Dar not having Ryan’s phone number and being unable to obtain the number is directly pointed out as a factor in the story line.

This story overall was just okay for me. The beginning captured my attention and then the rest of the story line flattened out. If you are in the mood for a Hollywood tale with a fairy tale happy ending, then maybe this book will work for you.

This was a great story about life as a celebrity. What it's like to be famous and the lack of real, personal connections. Ryan is gay, but he isn't free to live as he wants or even date the men he would like to because he is famous for being a heart throb, a straight heart throb.

Dar is just looking to talk to his best friend when he ends up with a stranger on the other end. When the stranger wants to keep talking because he enjoys having a conversation that is free of 'work' talk, Dar talks. The two develop a friendship.

I loved the two men and how their relationship evolved, but I will say that it lost a star for me because it was a bit over the top, lovey dovey after fairly little interaction.

Overall, not a bad story as it's cute with a bit of super hot thrown in.

Ryan Pierce is a movie star – he is living his dream. At least, that’s what he thinks until he sees that he can’t be himself. He realizes how lonely he is.

Dar Phillips is a super sweet character. He knows what he wants, goes after it, is honest and a dose of reality for Ryan.

The spark over the phone is palpable – Watts writes beautifully when she describes their reactions. I love that even with the short amount of time that they spend on the phone together – they understand their connection.

And, of course, there must be some kind of angst within the story – this had some believable scenarios which I appreciated. Too many times there are “insta-love” stories with strange connections that authors force, but Watts did a great job at having a much more real flow to her story.

There were a few areas that needed the editor to go back over – just typos or missed spacing – but nothing overtly obvious. Overall, this was a sweet story.

REVIEW @Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words

This book is one of my few two stars. This review will be really short because I admit I’m a little uncomfortable writing it. I’m sorry to say I don’t even know where to start, there isn’t a thing I liked.

Reading the blurb I thought the story looked interesting, too bad it wasn’t delivered in the writing. Instead, I found the book boring for most of the story and the other times it was just surreal. Some dialogues between the main characters seemed childish. And everything in the relationship went so fast, they talked on the phone, they fell in love, then they meet, Ryan comes out of the closet, they split up, they’re back together. Wow.

I enjoy a lot insta-love/lust stories but this one was so unlikely, I couldn’t even understand why they were attracted or in love with each other. It makes no sense at all.

As I already said a thousand times I love my books to be sweet, in this case it was too much. I was waiting for something to change all the way to the end, but it continued to be disappointing and flat.

Cover Artist by Posh Gosh. I like everything about this cover, even the font. Really well done. Finally something in this book fits the blurb.

(2.5, really)This was so cute at the beginning and I really liked the style of writing. The plot is pretty cliche, but I love fluffy things like that when they're done right. Dar is refreshing since he's just a normal, happy, charming guy. Ryan is a good switch from the usual cool-movie-star-and-normal-dude because he gets nervous, and he's inexperienced even though he's a confident leading man. I was really liking their chemistry and attraction as well, until it got to the bulk of the plot.

What had been developing slowly and sweetly was suddenly strange, emotionally-manipulative bargaining. A giant come-out-to-everyone-or-I-want-nothing-to-do-with-you moment that wouldn't be deserved until way, way later in the story, when they were actually getting somewhere in the relationship. It was out of character for Dar and way too sudden when they hardly knew each other at all. Just a few days.

The issue doesn't get resolved before they end up having sex, anyway, Dar changes his mind when he was completely up-in-arms about it before. The sex itself is written fairly well, though it goes on way too long and the guys get pretty sappy.

After, the whole thing just runs on full speed until the end. Way, way too fast and melodramatic and sappy.

'Wrong Number, Right Guy' reminds me of the book The Truth about Riley and that book was so beautiful and I can't help but compare while I was reading. SPOILER ALERT! ---------> For me they fell in love too fast for just 2 phone calls if I remember correctly? Then they met for the first time and already having a deep serious talked about the future or something, I mean it was their first meeting face to face so relax and enjoy why so serious, but on the other hand what Dar said kinda make sense coz' yeah why waste time developing feelings for each other when the other was sure he was already committed and the other was not ¯\(°_°)/¯ . And that ending (^∇^) was so movie like! haha I don't know if I'm gonna say awww or ewww haha just kidding I didn't say ewww that would be too much but I also definitely didn't say awww I was actually smiling at that 'confession' part coz I find it funny!(★^O^★)

This 84 page story is about Dar an average guy and Ryan the hottest actor on the silver screen at the moment. Dar lives in a small town that Ryan is currently filming in and one morning by mistake calls Ryan’s phone. Ryan, loving not only the ease of the conversation he is having but just listening to Dar’s voice decides not to tell Dar right away and even after they both figure it out have a laugh over it, Ryan can’t get enough. Can Dar and Ryan sort out their differences and make this work?
I can’t say enough wonderful things about this story. Mia Watts is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! The ease in which Dar and Ryan just fit together; the way that Dar holds onto his principals even when he finds out Ryan is this huge star. And Brett, the banter between the three of them, funny, that hissy fit at the end, classic!
