I really enjoyed this book, it had an interesting premise and I felt that it was done well. It is a short book and was a quick and easy read and I am interested to see where the story goes from here.

The conversations in the book felt slightly unnatural for me but that may just be personal preference.

Overall I would definitely recommend giving it a read.

The Missing Hour: Do Not Wake Them builds its entire story around a deceptively simple idea—what if an hour disappeared from every night, and almost no one noticed? From that premise alone, R. V. Zizzi creates an unsettling, slow-burn psychological thriller that is more about what it means to become aware than solving a mystery.

What worked particularly well for me was the atmosphere. There’s a constant sense that something is off, something just beneath the surface of reality, and the author maintains that tension consistently. The idea of a hidden system operating while the world sleeps is genuinely eerie, and the rules governing the “missing hour” feel structured enough to be believable without ever being fully explained.

The story leans heavily into themes of control, adaptation, and identity. As Mara becomes more aware of the hour, the real question isn’t just what is happening, but what it is doing to her. That shift—from external mystery to internal transformation—is where the book is at its strongest.

That said, the book didn’t fully hit a five-star level for me. At times, I felt slightly removed from Mara emotionally. Her arc is compelling, but I wasn’t always as deeply connected to her as I wanted to be. The middle section also lingers a bit in exploration, and while the ideas remain interesting, the pacing could have been tighter to maintain escalation.

The ending leans more toward thought-provoking than emotionally explosive, which will work for some readers more than others.

Overall, this is a strong, concept-driven psychological thriller with a unique premise and a consistent, unsettling tone. If you enjoy stories that explore hidden layers of reality and the cost of becoming aware of them, this is definitely worth your time.

I did enjoy this but I just felt very confused. It was just lots of people not saying anything. There was no character development or background so I didn’t really get it. However due to the theme of the book I’m also aware that this could be fully intentional! Looking forward to the next book to find out.

This was such an intriguing eerie read, following the story of Mara and the missing hour. I won't spoil it but the missing hour no one knows what happens or why in the missing hour!

Good read and very eerie, lots of building up, I believe this is book 1 of a series.
