This story starts with a bang, so to speak. We see Beau in all of his nervous planning OCD glory. He is making a last minute stop to pick up some more round white balloons, because the white long ones just won't do. Details are important, very important to Beau and how he runs his party/event planning business.
In the store he stops young boys from picking up a gun, which of course causes him to almost gets arrested. He's lucky that one of the cops is cute, hunky and smart, as opposed to his bigoted asshat partner.
From there on he keeps running into cutie Officer Nash Tyler.
The blurb does sum up a lot of what is going in in this story, he plans baby showers and anniversary parties and all kinds of events, we read all about the cakes and cupcakes being served and the decorations that are needed, all the planning and details that it entails. Sometimes during these parties things happen, like Beau helping a young woman escape her abusive boyfriend and in the process of helping her he runs into Nash again and they start dating.
Nash and Beau are both in their very early 30s and have a lot in common. They start getting to know each other, Nash likes Beau and has no issues with Beau's OCD and the habit of pinching down his side every time he is agitated or nervous, which happens quite a bit. I liked that they don't jump into bed right away, they take it slow and there is a lot of kissing and talking between them. There are nice supporting characters in this story, Alberta, the housekeeper and mother-substitute Beau practically inherited from his grandmother, Angie and Shane, Beau's employees.
This is a sweet story, with nice guys getting together and building a life together. The story is long, at about 77000 words. I think I would have enjoyed it better had some of the mundane everyday things had been cut out of the story, because despite the length I never really felt I got to know Nash or Beau as well as I would have liked.
The stalker that takes to threatening Nash and Beau was pretty obvious to me and probably to most readers and I was a little surprised it took the police so long to figure out, it's all a little over the top, but that's ok, I can suspend disbelief.
There is another twist in Beau's life that turns this story from sweet to really sweet, and again I was glad I had already suspended my disbelief. I'm sure it will appeal to a lot of readers, I liked it actually, but it was also turned into a little too much detail of the little things. I did liked the OCD story line and the slow burning romance between these two and I'm sure fans of sweet stories with nice guys in a small town setting that sort of meanders along will enjoy this one.

The unthinkable has happened

AKM Miles is an author whose books I read when I want something tooth achingly sweet, completely uncomplicated and completely predictable. I know what I'm getting when I pick up one of her books and that's comforting. I've never not liked an AKM Miles book. This book though had me on the knife's edge of DNF'ing it.

Beau is OCD and runs an event planning company called Details in a medium sized town full of the rich, the powerful and the famous. He's well known for his company's attention to detail and their ability to plan kickass events of any size that are perfect. The story starts with Beau almost being arrested when he stops two young boys from grabbing a gun left on a convenience store shelf. That's how Beau meets Nash, a hot deputy who's tall and sweet.

Some crazy things happen that bring Beau and Nash together and the reader has to suspend their disbelief that all of these ridiculous things keep bringing the police to wherever Beau happens to be. That's to be expected in some of AKM's books though. Oh, and there's a mystery in there about Beau and Nash being stalked that was extremely weak. I knew who it was ring from the beginning and I would have liked that part to have just been left out because it felt like no effort went into putting any actual mystery into the mystery.

The book itself just seemed to ramble on and on because I was bored with the main characters. Even when a surprise makes an appearance at the end it just made me wonder how the heck the story got to that point. All in all I as highly disappointed in this book. The first book of this author's that I just did not enjoy.

ARC provided by the publisher through Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words in exchange for an impartial review.

As this sweet romance opens we meet Beau Garner, a 31 year old man who has put his OCD into making a profit by running an event organizing company called Details. “It’s all in the details” claims Beau over and over again throughout the book. (Though meant to be humorous, it falls short after a while.) A last minute detail takes him to a rural convenience store to buy balloons, and besides being nearly sideswiped by a speeding vehicle roaring out of the parking lot as he enters, he’s also blindsided by finding a gun under a display case and then finding himself at the mercy of the police who’ve been called to “disarm” him. He only grabbed the gun when he heard two young children debating whether or not to pick it up, and as he tells the officers, “Do I look like the type of man who would have a gun?”, he catches the eye of the young good-looking cop.

Nash Tyler is a 31 year old cop in this rural town. He’s gay, and though his captain is aware, it’s not the type of thing he advertises to the rest of his co-workers. He’s a good cop, however, and he gives the cute guy with the gun a break and listens to his full story at the store, rather than haul him to the station as his homophobic partner wants to do. Since the situation is easily resolved, Beau is released but not before he notices Nash’s blushes as he hands Beau his card in case Beau needs to get in touch with him.

This is a sweet, slow-building romance that’s very family focused. Beau lives with Alberta, his grandmother’s friend and companion, a black woman who would prefer not to live with her own family and who cares for Beau as if he were her own child. The main excitement and undercurrent to the story is an apparent stalker who is randomly harassing Beau. That starts with phone calls then goes to being shot at with rock salt as he and Nash are soaking in his hot tub, to having faggot painted on his car then escalating to acts which could result in injury or death. Readers know who the likely stalker is from the beginning, but the action doesn’t culminate until the end of the book.

Another odd thing that happens, which is totally non-reality based, is that Beau helps a young woman at the airport as she’s trying to decide what to do about her fatherless infant, and she ends up leaving the infant in the restroom with a note turning him over to Beau. He then gets through the foster process and is given the baby that night—a baby that he will ultimately adopt as his and Nash’s at some point in the future. Most of the second half of the story was about the baby and integrating the baby into their lives as he and Nash became closer romantically, and their stalker became increasingly more dangerous.

There was little in this story to make it outstanding for me in any way, yet it was well-written and was a sweet romance so I’d recommend it to those who are looking for something simple and family-oriented with not a lot of sex but a lot of love.

Ah, this book, this book was such a hardship for me to read and I found so many, many things frustrating.

The core of the story is about Beau. He is a very peculiar man with many quirks and a healthy case of OCD. That suits him fine though and help him make a thriving work as an event planner, designer and whatever else has to do with details. Hell his company is called Details and people like him just for that, because nothing escapes his eye. On his way to one such event he stops at a small store to buy some white balloons. There the craziest thing happens when two little boys find a gun under a shelf. In his attempt to prevent the boys from picking it up and hurting themselves he gets tangled in a situation where the owner of the story and the kid’s mom think he owns that gun, and when the police gets involved the one question he keeps repeating is if he looks like someone that would own a gun.

While the situation gets cleared several things are set in motion. One of the officers clearly dislikes him for being gay while the other, handsome, sexy officer Nash shows a great interest on that fact. Through many events that follow Beau in his steps he has the opportunity to meet Officer Nash better and the two of them start dating. But them dating does not sit well with some people that are buried in their ignorant beliefs, and thus Beau and Nash get surrounded by hate threats, vandalism and criminal actions. But together they stand and face them down in the end getting rewarded with the biggest blessing of them all…

So, while the core story seems interesting and sweet enough I did not like the execution at all. The title is telling in that part as the entire read was one mass of details. Out of 300+ pages I think half of them involved Beau’s job describing in detail every single color of every single flower and every single thing they used for every event they took. Every scene that followed so a study on how to perfectly describe every corner of a place missing nothing and frankly most of the time not only did I found that boring but I didn’t see the point of it. I couldn’t care less about how the dinner party was displayed or the baby shower and the different things they had to order, or the bride’s-to be freaking dress. It was not only unnecessary but in the end it put me off big time.

From the entire above paragraph one would expect that an overabundance of details about the main character’s life, but that was not the case. While we had every single detail described from the moment the story started and on, we did not get much information about the character’s past. Oh, of course there was the old childhood stories and the history of their names and houses, and how and why they decorated the way they did, but personality wise, the things that make a man, were completely lost.

Through the entire read I kept wondering, what was the story behind Beau’s pinching his left side every time he got stressed. He was fat at some point I guess, that was never confirmed. Nash was in the army for eight years but nothing was backed with a story that would show him how he became the man he did. Except the very early childhood there was nothing on the two thirty years old men to show for their personality or life. My point being that while they seemed cute and adorable and the “awww” factor was raised quite a lot, I didn’t care for them. Those characters are completely out of my heart and didn’t even come close to touching it.

And then there was the plot and the writing i.e. dialogues and voice of narration. Plot wise, this book was a complete failure for me. The moment this book started it was so transparent it held no interest at all. You knew the pair, you saw how it would come between them, you knew the villain and you could literally see every step how he would follow as well. The highlight of tension was the damn rain in an outdoors event Beau had to overcome and then something happened at the last quarter of the book, that had me groaning in frustration with the easiness things kept flowing. The fact that the voice was overly sweet and quite sappy didn’t help. The fact that everybody was so very polite and considerate and oh my God flattering of each other di NOT help either. As a matter of fact this was all a very unrealistic read that had me detached and miles away from relating early on. Such a shame really because I do love OCD characters so much, hell I was a fan of Monk for crying out loud. But no, this here didn’t match and was quite hard reading through it.

Bottom end, I didn’t like it and wouldn’t recommend it unless you don’t mind all the above.

4 1/2 Hearts, Review of 2nd Edition for MM Good Book Reviews

This story is a 2nd edition and there are no changes from the 1st. Beau is just trying to get to work when he’s nearly arrested, it’s an inconvenience but he makes the acquaintance of a shy deputy, Nash. Beau gets to meet the cute deputy again when Beau comes to the rescue of a young lady in distress, and again when Nash comes to explain an accident one of Beau’s employees was involved with and Beau gets finally gets his wish and is asked out for lunch. As they begin to date Beau becomes targeted by a redneck bigot, he juggles his business and his OCD, and during an errand his life changes forever. Nash and Beau plan to make things work but someone wants to make Beau’s life miserable, will Nash and Beau’s fledgling relationship hold out against that nasty bigot who seems determined to drive them apart?

This is a lovely story that has a sweet romance with just a touch of mystery and angst. Beau is neurotic about details and he has made it work for him by putting it to good use in his party planner/event organiser business Details. On the way to a sweet sixteen party he stops for some last minute bits and nearly gets arrested for a good deed, on the bright side he meets a delicious deputy who has the most adorable blush. Nash is just going about his business when he meets a man who has an amazing mind for details, approaching the cute event organiser is difficult especially when with his small minded partner. They finally hit it off but it isn’t the end of the bizarre things that seem to happen to Beau.

I really enjoyed this story, it was truly lovely to see Beau and Nash connect and embark on a relationship. Beau has OCD but makes it work for him, he is a lovely caring man who will do anything to make others dream events come true, he can be uptight at times as he works to control everything but his innate goodness shines through. Nash is adorable with his slight shyness; he is a good man who always tries to treat people with kindness and respect. Together these two men make a fantastic couple, and they face the threat together even as their relationship is still new and blossoming.

The storyline is great with a series of events that conspire to bring Beau and Nash together, a misunderstanding involving a gun, a rescue of a distressed young lady and an accident with the van. Their relationship moves sweetly along and although they are only seeing each other for a short amount of time it feels natural that their relationship has progressed quickly, that these two men were meant to be together. This story is written perfectly with the characters personalities’ shining through, the feelings that they have are clearly portrayed; fitting in perfectly with the mounting circumstances that they find themselves in. I’d love to tell you more of what exactly happens but I loved the direction the story went in and the surprise I felt as events unfolded so I will let you discover and love those events’ yourself.

I recommend this to those who love wonderful love stories, fantastic characters, a great storyline, sweet love, a touch of mystery and angst and a very happy ending that makes you smile and sigh.

Talk about having a bad day!! Poor Beau Garner stops at an out-of-the-way grocery store to get white balloons for a party his company is throwing because one of his employees forgot them. As if that's not bad enough, he ends up having a shotgun pointed at him because he found a gun under one of the counters! A.K.M. Miles has written a fantastic tale that starts out as ordinary, but rapidly veers into the unexpected with All in the Details. The blurb contains the basic ingredients of the story, but you need to read this quirky and original tale for yourself to savor the full flavor of it.

This is a fantastic character and somewhat plot driven story with a plot that flows as smooth as a fine whiskey. Beau Garner and Nash Tyler are two totally different men who you wouldn't think would even meet each other, let alone start dating! They both give new meaning to the phrase "opposites attract". The backstory lays a solid foundation without too much trivial information. The characters are very well rounded and the love and loyalty that they display for each other in the face of threats, attacks, and unexpected fatherhood make them so much more than words on a page. The sex is tender and passionate, with a depth far beyond just the physical.

The author's writing style is eloquently simple, clean, and concise, with a delicious twist of humor running through even the darker moments of the story. The HEA ending is beautiful and satisfying, making this a book I truly enjoyef, and would recommend to everyone.

I thought this book could have been better, it was centred on beau and his business a lot at the start of the book. It started to get better half way and towards the end, I did think some parts with the baby and family were sweet but some parts were hard to grasp, Getting custody within the same day!, very questionable and it ended without telling you if they got to adopt or what happened to the criminal. It just needed to be longer and detailed more.
