First of all, I read a little about the author and found that he has written books described as “thrillers”. Really??? I can’t imagine that at all. This book has 2 developed characters, and a handful of others that aren’t even worth mentioning. There is barely any dialogue, and ENDLESS descriptions of the same scenery and processes to the point that sometimes I was convinced that I had lost my place and was re-reading the same chapter for the 3rd or 4th time. I kept reading because I thought SURELY the conflict would be resolved, but it never was. Bleh! The lesson of learning to offer help even when it may be ineffective or rejected was not fleshed out well in the telling.

Outstanding

This is the best work of literature that I’ve read in a long time. The character development, the storytelling, the sense of being a witness to the action, the timelessness of the tale, the writing, the perfect editing…absolutely superb. I highly recommend this novel if you want an experience and not just a story.

Bad book

I did not finish this book. I got thru 67% of it and laid it down. Writer writes 130, 97, 112, etc word sentences that just go around in circles. Also feel as if I don't know what the point of this book is at 67%.

Two young boys see for the first time that their town does not want an eyesore (a homeless man named Eli) in their midst. And even though Eli has never bothered anyone, the towns folk want him gone. And while they cannot change the town, they can extend a hand of kindness.
