Exile: A Fire & Valor Novella

Rate this book
Andreas's people have been chased to the far reaches of Llangard on threat of brutal murder that humans already carried out on Andreas’s sister.

So when he and his clan take a human knight prisoner, he doesn't want to like the man. Especially not when he learns that Blake is a member of the very family whose name is anathema to Cavendish.

Blake has been sent to the far north with an bring his brother, the king, the head of a dragon or his own will end up on a pike. When he finds himself the prisoner of a small dragon clan, though, he realizes he's far more interested in spending some quality time with them than hurting anyone.

After facing rejection from their own societies, five lonely souls find peace with each other . . . on every flat surface in their cave.

This spicy MMMMM novella is part of the Fire & Valor world and tells the story of the foundation of the Wave Clan—a clan of dragons on the far reaches of Llangard. Blake proves Roland is far from the first Cavendish to fall for a dragon (or four). It was originally published as a serial on our Patreon page.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.5 stars

Exile is a novella set within the world of Sam Burns and W.M. Fawkes’ Fire and Valor series. The series had an original trilogy, which I really enjoyed, and now some side stories, such as Exile, that take place in this world. This story stands very independently from the main series, however, so you could read it without being familiar with the other books. It was originally released as a serial in the authors’ Patreon, and now is being published more widely.

Well, I'll be darned. And I think you're missing something like... "smut" and "poly" and "who needs plot when you can get them naked" as tags. I was expecting to be lured into a new series. Instead, the main character got kidnapped and then had an orgy with three dragons (the 4th, the actual love interest, just watched it) in... the first chapter? The first scene that actually mattered, at least.

I minded the environment more, actually. Because (I assume) of its length (ok, that was not supposed to be a pun but I just finished... no, no pun intended, and my mind is obviously in the gutter) the actual plot of this book? Like, nowhere to be seen. The dragons live in caves. They might hunt, they might have sex. The end. Something was missing in terms of something actually happening. The main character was either "a prisoner", doing nothing, or he was... naked. The end.

I am not super fan of the author(s) but they can write some good stories so hopefully, the actual series will have more substance. And the characters won't live like savages.

I do enjoy the dragon clans these two have written. This is supposed to be a prequel story to the Fire and Valor series. I’m not quite sure how it fits in there other than Blake being a Cavendish. It’s a good little novella, but I wasn’t really expecting a polycule of dragons living on their own and adopting a stray human into their group. That didn’t really sway me though. This is definitely spicy but it’s in a good way. It does make me feel the desperate need to go do a reread of the original series!

Honestly, if the book could stick to being erotica or romance, I'd have given this 4 stars. Instead, it started off erotica and then pivoted into a romance between Blake and Andreas that happened to involve sex with the other 3 dragons. Plus a baby dragon.

Fawkes and Burns really needed to be willing to go back to the beginning and re-write so that the enemies-to-lovers romance was better foreshadowed and Blake's character was better introduced/established so that the meeting with the dragons didn't end up falsely foreshadowing porn without plot.

This is a short sweet read in the Fire and Valor series. Andreas and his three friends are living in the mountains when they notice some humans building huts. After taking them back to the castle and burning down their huts, Andreas sees a knight coming towards him. He decides to take him with him in his dragon form. This starts the story of how we learn why Blake decided to stay and why Andreas was instantly wary. Loved it and cannot wait for more by these authors.

Andreas and Blake story alongside the other clan members was interesting and a little intense, it had a couple misunderstandings and misconceptions, and both of danger and adrenaline, as well as a sweet mission that will eventually tie all of them together.
It had a bit of teasing, a couple of insecurities and doubts, as well as bonding time that brings them closer.

Exile is a Fire & Valor Novella. This is the story of Andreas a dragon shifter and Blake a human. This was a short quick read. I loved the characters and world building that went into this book and the series that it's part of. I loved watching these two figure things out. This was an interesting, fun story. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was a short and spicy read.
Andreas is a dragon and Blake is a human knight.
Neither trusts the other and with good reason.
There's been betryals and death.
As they slowly get to know one another, each realizes their misconceptions about each other.

Yes, this a prequel, but I kind of enjoyed it more as just a hot little read! Take a few dragons and throw in a human for them to start loving on. I was all in! I enjoyed seeing all the insecurities and feelings of each dragon.

GORGEOUS COVER, WOW! That caught my attention first, and then the blurb where it says MMMMM. Short and quick read, but wished it was longer. I have not read the books this world is based in, so this has piqued my interest.

I'm not mad about it, but it was not the worldbuilding prequel I was expecting. It was however, spicy and fun in that horny dragons gotta horny kind of way, and sometimes it doesn't have to be more than that. But we're not looking at deep fantasy lore here. Deep. Heh, I'm a teenage boy.

Sweet and erotic. There’s not much plot but I liked the characters and the polyamory. This takes place well before the events in Fire & Valor but I hope we perhaps see the dragons again in the current time frame of the world. It ends on a HFN but there is much more story that could be explored.
